What a genuine top geezer he is! Just hope and pray that he can repeat his Reading days. f**k mr warnock and his total rubbish excuses. personally I can live with a defeat if we all try hard (fans and players alike)but icant stand when people bitch and bitch cause they have no idea bout anything else! So please next season can we all make a big effort and get ER rocking again.

Believable19 Unbelievable0

We need some marquee signings. That word (marquee) was used in the Yorkshire media when Colin started off this season but it came to nothing. Marquees will equal full house.

Agree6 Disagree0

Marquee signings aren't on £8k/week. Market signings are.

I posted on Friday and said a full ER there's nowhere like it. Nearly 24k is better than its has been, but as I asked previously all the reasons the stay away fans are staying away, put them to one side (other than can't afford) and for the last home games come back and show BM and the lads what a full ER sounds like.

I am a "can't afford" the ticket but I do try attend atleast 1 or 2 home games a month. I am considering the last home game of season but I would love to hear a full elland road again was best atmosphere ever, sent shivers up my spine

I think any Leeds player with a more thorough connection to Warnock will be got rid of by Brian. Don't want that smell hanging around. So will McD replace Kenny and Brown with McCarthy and McGugan? A lot of Mcs there! Wish I knew why Tonge has gone carp.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Maybe we can get a player that dosnt dive all the time I think we really need one of them

Agree2 Disagree0

No prospect of Reading letting McCarthy go - did you see some of the great saves he pulled off against Liverpool yesterday? However, I'd be delighted to get him, like you.

we might find that the players warnock signed are not quite so bad now warnock as fu**ed off. I think he was knocking the players confidence.

14 Apr 2013 17:34:02
Brian McDermott, what a breath of fresh air compared with Warnock. He is calmer, talks more sensibly, doesn't blame everyone else for mistakes, backs his players. In his press conference he simply said we want everyone pulling in the same direction to achieve what we want. From board right down to tea ladies. That's what Revie said when he took over a club near the bottom of the second tier. JD

Believable18 Unbelievable0

The interview I saw he seemed enthusiastic and eager, hope this wasn't just because it was his first week in the job but other interviews I have seen whilst at Reading he seems a bit of a gentleman which is exactly what The Don was.

Question.

Does anyone rate Michael Tonge.

Signed him on loan and played well in a few games I must admit.

BUT

He then gets his 3 year deal (sorted now until he retires) and since we signed him permanently he has been a joke.
No hunger, poor distribution and when we go behind his head goes down before any one else.

IMO, very avg at best and needs shipping on in the summer as I bet he is on a fair wedge as one of warnocks merry men!

What do we think?

Believable15 Unbelievable2

I honestly can see no reason why we have Tonge, Norris and Green who are basically the same player. Next season I would like to see us keep one (Green for me) release the other two and get a couple of different types of midfielders in.

Agree5 Disagree1

15 Apr 2013 07:15:02
i believe that to be down to the way warnock seems to treat players. ryan hall hasn't really played since he signed a contract.
tonge came back from stoke after signing a contract and was just left on the bench for ages didn't even get any sub appearances.
everyone has seen how diouf has performed all season and he was having a game out and then he just never seemed to get his place back, he did get a few sub appearances but that would knock your confidence when you havn't done anything wrong.
he also liked to rip into players

Agree3 Disagree0

I'd keep them on the bench, start green or Norris and buy two wingers which is Brian will do as his former team worked around wingers. He will also buy an out and out goalscorer which will feed off the wingers

The win on Saturday was important for two major reasons. The first being to distance ourselves from the bottom three, because none of us want to be enduring League One ever again! The second reason is to get off the mark with the new manager. Fantastic effort from the boys in the second half, and two quality goals! For a manager to have such an immediate positive impact is very pleasing, and makes you wonder whether we're in for a very successful future (not meaning to jump the gun).

I'd just like to make a quick point about Mr Luke Varney. I personally was skeptical about him in a Leeds United shirt following some of his unconvincing performances this season, but recently there has been a collection of occasions where he has really show what he can do with yesterday the culmination of that. Playing him down the middle with Ross in a floating/free role seemed to work a treat, and they were two very accomplished looking headers. It makes you realise Brian McDermott really knows what he's doing. To shuffle the pack with such amazing outcomes shows great tactical awareness, something that Warnock undoubtedly lacked.

Yeah, so overall a very happy Leeds fan here with an eye on the future with McDermott!

I personally thought Brian has to be admired for taking control 24hours after meeting the players, most managers sit in the stand and watch- danger is a poor result and they get blamed, however BM grabbed the bull by the horns unconcerned about blame.
Subs were well thought out.
Varney seems to be going in right direction but I urge people to give Morison a break, he was great at millwall and there is no benefit in doing the billy 'barn door' witch hunt. Give him a chance to settle and gain confidence.

Agree8 Disagree4

Well said mate. Morison will turn out to be a proper player for us.

14 Apr 2013 22:34:38
The refreshing input already by McDermott was the building up of moves from the back, rather than all the passing bck to the goalie to hoof up the field and more often than not to lose possession. The second half on Saturday shower
d that we have players at home with that style of player - have they been uncomortable with the previous style of play?
Morison looked completely out of touch and lacking in confidence - was he still unfit - I have not seen any sign to date that he was a worthy replacement for Becchio. He completely miskicked at one chance and then dithered so long at the one on one that he did not get a shot in before he was caught by defender.
Elsewhere someone mentions Reading keeper McCarthy - he was absolutely magnificent on Saturday keeping Liverpool out.
Yorky.

Just want to say that BM is a breath of fresh air since Warnock. I wanted Warnock as like everyone else I thought he would get us promoted as he had a good track record, however I was so disappointed in him and thought that if he only had played players in their natural positions and to their strengths, we would have well made the playoffs. At times I thought he was doing his best to NOT get us in the playoffs and could not believe a manager of his experience could not see the wood for the trees. Even me (a girl) could see what needed doing. Anyway that's all in the past now and we moved forward and live and learn, so welcome BM and here's to much success as Leeds manager and if the board back him I can see him being the person to get us promotion. Before we get too gung-ho and want to get rid of this player and that, I say wait a while as a change of style might just benefit some of the players. Luke Varney has been rubbished so many times but I know he's a good player.
We do need some new players with pace and flair in the squad, I'm not denying that, but give some of the current squad a chance to shine under Brian McDermott. I'm very pleased we have him, he's already shown he's brave and quick in making decisions and our style of play will improve under him.
I'm now looking forward to next season and hope GFH back Brian to the hilt. MOT Ron.

Believable22 Unbelievable1

Excellent post. To be fair to Varney he has been improving for a few months now so I'd become a lot less hostile to him in recent weeks. McDermott clearly saw something in his arial ability that made him reorganise the team yesterday and he was terrific up front after half time. Clearly much better there than out wide.

Diouf was the difference though. When he came on Ross and Varney's roles made much more sense and Ross was like a different player in the second half.

OK you lot
Have followed L. U. for more years than I care to remember (early 60s) In my opinion we should back anybody who wares the white shirt, Leeds Fans have always been fair to most player but tend to have a whipping boy who they blame for anything and everything. I remember when Terry Yorath was given stick by fans for not filing B. B. Boots who could do that? Terry Hibbert for not being Eddiy Gray and in more recent times Luke Varney for not being Snodgrass, Warnock gave Varney a cross to bare when he said Luke would fill Snodgrass boots and play his role. Luke Varney asked Macky D if he could play up front for S. W. game his true position and he got his rewards. Come on give the lad a break while he wares the White of L. U. we should encourage him not moan at every mistake. After the S. W. game I believe he won a few friends so please don't start on Morrison every time he misses a chance let Macky D sort him out and get us playing a system all the players understand and can work on to their best ability GET OFF HIS BACK.

Believable15 Unbelievable6

I agree to a certain extent, we should not get on players back and support the team as one. but in my eyes morison is the poorest signing since palmer. people were slagging becchio on this site earlier in the season, but I bet most of them would rather we had kept him. I still believe we should have kept becchio as we would still would have been in the play off mix. barring that we should have got the full transfer fee and bought some quality like burke and boyd instead of getting players other clubs don't want.

Well under NW I always said that when we put the ball on the floor and passed the dam thing, we looked really good, in fact on the odd occasion we did we totally dominated teams, unfortunately NW for what ever reason altered our play from pass to hoof too many times hence he had to go.
What happened yesterday was for me a real in sight into McDermott, first half he just played the system the players have been playing and it clearly wasn't working, and then half time he says, OK we now do it my way PASS PASS PASS PASS, the difference was there to see, McDermott never stopped shouting pass the ball, if we play like we did in that second half the rest of this year and next year I feel we can go places.
OK you crap brigade club will say it's only one game, and yes I agree with you, but when we pass the ball Leeds have the players, and we become a very poor side to a pretty decent outfit. Cardiff are going up, now come on, what a average bunch they are, yes very average, two or three quality additions to our side who pass and play will send this squad up next year.
To NW credit he has brought some decent lads here who do give it everything, what we now need is then same lads to play football, strangely it suits then to pass the ball. Please keep the faith and yes all you crap brigade members can join us for free, we are the total Leeds fans that stick together through thick and thin, I should know I have had 50 years of it.

Just a thought, Eric Lichaj is out of contract this summer, if Byram does go, great option as a replacement? Or if he stays being Lichaj in and push Byram to RM?

Believable9 Unbelievable5

He has had a long term injury since we last had him, but I'd say he's probably still worth it. Even as a squad player

Agree8 Disagree2

I always wanted Lichaj to come back as I thought he was one of the best loan players we had in recent years. I too think that Byram would be worth a go on the wing as he is so good at getting forward. Mot

Lichaj seemed good as we only had Paul Connolly to compare him with. I just want us to do all we can to keep Byram.

This summer we don't actually need to spend a great deal to get some decent players, if Wolves go down, their players will be going cheap, likewise with Bristol City.
- Chris Burke, free
- Curtis Davies, Birmingham are skint £800k?
- Stephen Hunt, £1m?
- Lewis McGugan, is he out of contract?

hi fellow leeds lads haven't posted in awhile guess I was too depressed bout the bad run we were having and not seeing light at the end of the tunnel possible relagation fears maybe anyways I remember last season when reading came from absolutely no where to win the league and I said to myself wouldn't it be great for leeds to have a manager like him and now we do i'm ecstatic felt like all my birthdays at once!
dunno why people say my first choice it would be di matteo what did he do for west brom? rest my case! ya CL winner wit chelski think any of us could of managed that team to defend and catch on the break is all and if he was so good why sacked not long after! and that's just my opinion of coarse entitled to yours!
what strikes me bout leeds when NW managed was not playing to any strengths but rather just being tough to beat which didn't work well obviously!
Bmd has us paying with no fear scary for opposing teams getting a feel for the ball actually PASSING it and it wouldn't surprize me if we remained unbeaten for the rest of the season although next season is our season folks looking forward to the summer!

Ed I can see yer point as I thought Peltier & Pearce wer good signings when we got but been disappointed with the pair of em - maybe new boss will get the best out of em. I agreed with the above posts; he shouldn't have been sacked but it really is time to let go.

It's an irrelevant, sterile debate. You can't change the past but you can learn from it. Lessons GFH should learn include the one that selling your best players and failing to reinvest will not get you promoted even when you do have a good manager. Also, forcing a manager to adopt a hit and hope transfer policy in the loans and free markets will inevitably lead to hit and miss transfer record whoever's in charge.
