Only guessing here but perhaps a lot of managers have been put off by the Technical Director post, I.e. not being able to choose the players they want to bring in.
Trying to read behind the lines, I think that is the real reason Monk moved on as well as not getting the security blanket of a 3 year contract.
I would love to see Flores as manager but Radz keeping his cards firmly to his chest causing the bookies and press to speculate wildly.
I don't mind the wait as long as we get a good coach/ manager.

Speedo. Even I don't mind the wait if it's worth waiting for. My fear is that we are having the wait and won't get the reward we are hoping for. I've such a long list of people I really just don't want, and the ones I would have loved have been ruled out or gone to Nantes

I'm bored sh**less waiting for the announcement of a new manager, as we all are, and I've had one too many reefers and I'm off my rocker. Anyhoo, here's a football question for all you regulars:

I'm a time travelling referee (I'm really a work shy alkie but bare with me) and I've just leapt back into the future from the 80s (hence the fashion sense) and am refereeing the France v England game from yesterday.

After blowing my whistle for the first time to start the game, roughly how long would it be before I blow my whistle again and for what reason? Please bare in mind that some of the rules of the game would have changed since the 80s but being a dip s**t I wouldn't have known that whilst travelling through time in the old Delorean.

I think it's a fairly easy one, so let's 'av it then you clever know it alls. Free pint in the virtual bar for the first correct answer.

Approximately 2 minutes because you've seen your SIL with all the other England fans in the crowd. But instead of waving her t shirt above her head she's waving her lace panties. Make mine a pint of bushmills please Mr Micheal

Bryan Robson scored in 27 seconds at 1982 World Cup?

{Ed003's Note - he did,remember running home from school to watch it and expecting us to get beat,that was a good evening.}

Mick I think from the kick off as I'm sure the ball was kicked backwards and not forwards like in the good old days.

No offsides and 2 footed tackles are fine unless you literally shank someone, so. 9th minute, first goal? Was pretty young in the 80's so my knowledge of the game rules for that period are spotty.

Well done Speedo. Last year the rule changed that the ball doesn't have to be played forward like it has been since the first rules of football were penned. God I'm interesting! I would have blown up straight away to ask for that numpty Kane to retake the centre only to be then told that the rules had changed.

How embarrassing! Straight back into the Delorean and back to the comfort of 1986, perms and shell suits for me. Put your order in Speedo, the virtual drink is on me.

Is it being unfair to say that AR is seeming to be just as clueless as Massimo was when he took over at sorting a new manager out. I know it's not long since he took over but he's been around since Christmas so you'd have thought he would have had some peeps sounded out. Ffs just give Pep the job because it's getting boring to the point of embarrassment now.

Speedy, your post a little harsh I believe. Don't forget Monk surprised Radz. He has reacted by interviewing candidates. As for Pep, he's a coach not a manager. I think you'll find Hierro or Flores will be announced by Friday. Probably the former. As for embarrassing, you got to be kidding? Spending an extra couple of days to recruit is hardly synonymous with Hock appointment, pie tax or missing the playoffs by 5 points when we were 11 points to the good. Now that's embarrassing. Get real Speedy and at least try to know what's good. Peace and MOT.

Agree speedie. Except pep comment.
Not good enough for coach!

Georgie porgy. We looking for a coach not a manager!!
And. So radz being surprised by monk means no plan b and what was he doing for that whole 6 months Learning not a lot obviously.
Signing your mates up. don't mean you know what you doing.
The next 3-6 weeks will reveal how prepared he was. Cause he should have been!

TBF we have been linked with some pretty big managers that have later said they don't want the job, if he is trying to get someone of a certain calibre and he is having trouble convincing them to drop down I would rather wait a little longer for a quality long term manager than get a stop gap tomorrow.

Speedy, welcome.

Aus, whatever the title of appointment there's a vast difference between coaching players, teaching them formation and then what's required to winning competitive football matches against professional opponents. The latter needs tactical awareness. It's a manager we need not a second coach who is Pep anyway.

Leeds and Rad think very highly of Pep. So do I but he's a coach. Obviously he makes a significant contribution in the dugout but we need a winning manager who wins game. Did I mention winning? Lol

George. When u own leads u can decide on what a manager or coach does and what is needed. In the meantime. Get the terminolgy right.
Been waiting ages to make my play speedie. Now bw thinks he is a stand up and is touring south wales. I thought go for it

Very disappointed in calibre o latest linked managersIMO should offer big Sam whatever he wants to lure him out of retirement always gets the best out of players, might be just the challenge for him, with some of the others mentioned can only see mid table finish at best and losing our best players.

Big Sam has one of the best records of getting promotions and keeping teams up, would love him.
As for Hierro Leodis you have to look at the team he was managing, he did a fair bit better than he was expected to do. 38% is rubbish if your the Real Madrid manager but Sunderland would have bitten your hand off to get that return last year. Not the best name we have been linked with but I reckon he could do a job for us.

Here we go again. Goalkeepers and defenders being snapped up by others.
Even if we do announce new coach tomorrow. Then there will be another week or two deciding who to keep and who to go after. Dejavu!
But anyway. Look on the bright side.
Radz is making sure he gets the right man in!!

I think the appointment of orta and bravo suggests that we've already been looking at players, the signing of sacko indicates this. The new manager may not even be looking at the targets we're thinking of. May have a few gems and hidden tricks up their sleeve. Perhaps this is why 'the right' manager is taking so long, who knows? I said it a few months ago to expect players that are Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese to come in.

Orta will already have his targets, he will just want confirmation from the manager that A. They can be in his plans, and B. He can manage a decent price for them. I wouldn't worry too much about new players and new signings at other clubs just yet. There's still 8 weeks before the window starts.

Im not saying its imperative for success but we've tried not being ready and prepared for a new season for many many seasons and always failed. So maybe we need to be prepared in order to succeed.
Prepared means manager and 80% of squad settled and ready for new season. Still 20% wonder players that fit in to come after as surprise.
Succeed means start well with a hiccup. Middle well with a hiccup or two over xmas and finish with a bang with a hiccup
But still in top 2.
All i'm saying is. To take 3 weeks to appoint a new manager better mean he is way better than the dross we have had before. Or we may as well settled with the likes of grayson. Pardew. Jfh. Etc etc. and had a good pre season.
Lets hope its worth the wait.
