Evening gents, mm and speedy, as most know I'm a b'pool fan so have been watching the 'Sporting Heroes - Jimmy Armfield' programme tonight on ss3 - just thought I'd give you a heads up as he goes into his time at Leeds in the 2nd half of the interview,so if you haven't seen it before I'm sure you could get it on catch up if you're interested.
Anyway that's it #oystonout

Thanks old pal. I remember Jimmy used to smoke a pipe in the dug out. He used to puff away. Especially when we played in fa cup.

Cheers Ed 003. Will have a look on catch up too. Not sure about labelling me in my own category other than 'gent'. Take it from the bar ladies down at 'Spoons and the sister in law, I am a proper gentleman. I'm always plying them with drinks trying to get their beer goggles on and in the mood for some loving.

If Steve McClaren was in Leeds to research his doctorate on how to own a football club - he was in the wrong place. If, on the other hand he was in Leeds with the intention of becoming Gary Monk's replacement he is again in the wrong place. NOBODY IN LEEDS LIKES YOU. GO AWAY AND DESTROY THE HOPES AND ASPIRATIONS OF SOME OTHER CLUB LIKE YOU HAVE DONE AT MIDDLESBROUGH, DERBY, TWENTE ENSCHEDESE NOTTS FORREST, WOLFSBURG, NEWCASTLE AND NOT FORGETTING ENGLAND. NOBODY WANTS YOU AT LEEDS. If it happens there will be a riotous assembly before the Blackburn game. mark my words!

Question for everyone about our GK situation.
Do you honestly think we will sign a keeper that doesn't make regular errors whilst we are a championship club?
Surely it's all about if he keeps his errors to a minimum in this league.

For what it's worth I still rate Silvestri above Green and I cannot understand why on earth Monk pulled Green into the team when QPR were only too glad to get rid, and Green clearly doesn't have the years left in him?

Think back to us releasing Schmeikels a few years back, he wasn't the finished article but he has proven his worth?

I know Marco was never going to be another Schmeikels, but on reaction saves I have seen very few better.

To this day I can never understand why Monk told Silvestri to look for another club, he would have been (and still is) a seriously good goalkeeper to have on the bench, if nothing else?

WTF happens if Green gets injured?

I hate to think.

Given some of the decisions Monk has made, and bearing in mind he was the third choice of Cellino, it is Monk who needs to prove himself, not the players?

So far I for one am not really convinced.

. God forbid McLaren though!

14 Sep 2016 19:40:25
You're right Lucas.
If we had a fantastic keeper it wouldn't be long before he went to a better club, would it?

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 22:37:46
Lets give Green some time. He has not played competetive for a while so will be rusty. Silvestri needs to improve and I can't see why he does not. He knows his weakness so needs to work on it to get his place back. Farrel will be in soon anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Sep 2016 08:09:32
Baffles me out keeper situation. Green hasn't really impressed me and I don't rate Silvestei. The kid has not improved at all in his time at Leeds and let's face it, it's not like he is Peacock-Farell's age, he should be approaching his peak. Class A shot stopper, shocking on set pieces, shocking of ball distribution and for me isn't commanding enough. Turnbull has played a couple of games and did fine. Why not give him a go with your Bailey P-F as a number 2? Going from Green to Silvesti to me is like choosing who I would like to win in a Man U v Galatasary game ๐Ÿค”.

Mclaren would definitely be a backward step even for MC. He didnt/ couldn't step up to the plate at Wolfsburg, Forest, Derby and Newcastle despite significant cash investment so how could he hope to perform at Leeds! As mentioned in an earlier post he's a dinosaur!

Glad to get the win. Monk said he had to compromise. ' More substance than style'. He should have known with our lack of quality we can only afford one up front at the moment. We need to be solid in the centre and have width. At the moment that means 4-4-2 won't work. It might in the future but the quality and creativity has to improve. Last night we looked more secure but did not create much till later on. We did not test their keeper much either. Football being football on another night we could have lost that one. Monk seems to have steadied the boat but we have to create more. Hopefully as the team gels that will happen. You never know we might get a top notch striker in January! Bit concerned about Taylor's performance. Looks like he's more concerned about not getting injured than putting in the required 100%.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2016 11:14:43
Been saying that about Taylor since the first game, seems quite happy to pass sideways and take throw-ins :)
As regards top-notch strikers, Wood scored his 4th goal of the season last night. Green, according to the Blackburn manager "made 2 unbelievable saves at 1- 1" so, looks like the 2 that shouldn't even make the bench aren't really all that bad :)

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 12:05:18
There was one incident out wide where Taylor completely bottled a 50/ 50 challenge the whole crowd could see it not impressed.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 12:31:01
Wood has scored a couple other than penalties otherwise he is lacking. He does not do enough to make a 4-4-2 work consistently. In fairness he was on hand to put away Sacko's pass. Then again, If I'd have been on hand, I would have been extremely disappointed if I had missed it- even at my age. As far as Green is concerned - Yes he does make saves but so did Silvestre (he is one of the best shot stoppers in the division) . Green's handling of crosses and distribution are poor and no better than the Italian. Hence he is not an improvement on what we had.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 12:51:30
al Stafford. Seriously? You judge green and wood on one game?
4 goals. Whoopeedoo?

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 13:51:52
Hesslian, do not agree with your comparison of Green and Silvestre. His handling of crosses is superior to Silvestre as Silvestre does not attempt to collect crosses. Green's willingness to come of his line to clear his lines is again superior to Silvestre. Silvestre has it for reactions and although I do not think Green is the secure presence we expected I would take him over Silvestre.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 16:33:12
I agree its a close call but I've seen all the games and Green has had' incidents in every one - last night included. I was hoping we could get a keeper that you weren't always worried something silly was going to happen. Fair play, Green has made some excellent saves and collected the occasional cross but he is a worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 19:47:50
Nottswhite

we didn't nickname Silvestri 'dracula' for nothing, he hates crosses, but his main problem was not controlling his area?

We need to keep Silvestri as a decent baackup if nothing else, Green isn't the answer to our problems, thankfully the defence is starting to get sorted.

Still don't think Wood can cut it despite the goal, far too inconsistent!

Typically the press are providing more speculation that Monk is going regardless of the win. Let's hope MC can be patient and give him some time - we don't need more change just as we start to find a winning (all be it by the skin of our teeth) formula. Things will get better as positivity reigns๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜œ let's hope he keeps his powder dry๐Ÿค”.

Spot on Peacock. I seem to remember donkey's years ago Fergie was one cup defeat from the sack after a poor run of results. They won that game and he went on to build a successful team. I can't see the value in sacking Monk this early into his tenure. The team is completely new and whilst I agree he is making mistakes, I still think he will come good when he finds his winning formation. Despite what some people might think, good managers won't be banging on Cellino's door begging for the chance to manage Leeds United.

14 Sep 2016 12:14:41
So Wood came in and scored a tap in, our girt would have scored that, we need 2 proven strikers to even think about top 6,with Roofe given a striking role him and Sacko would pose a far greater threat than Wood, better look about them though last night, just sick of the idiot press banging on about Monk getting the sack, even linking Mclaren with managers job now, pathetic.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Sep 2016 12:40:16
Wood is a bit of an enigma rhino. When he plays, he's lambasted for missing sitters but when he's out of the team, we look like we miss him. Yes, before anyone says it, he does miss a (cough, cough) few! but for some unknown reason I prefer him in the team. I still think he'll find some form this season and go on a scoring run.

MM.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 12:54:34
I'm all for giving monk a bit of time if he keeps wining regularly.
Wood however has shot his bolt! Should really cancel his contract and make way for someone useful on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 14:07:57
Love your optimism MM, but can't see it myself, he's given Wood a good run, if he gve Roofe the ame I think it would give us more threat and goals, Wood ain't an out an out triker by any means, use him as a sub at best, a Robbie Keane, Defoe, Beckford et al, would be good, have we the money though, heres hoping.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 14:42:08
It's a massive step up for Roofe jumping two divisions is a huge ask. It will take time for him to adapt, the players in the chamionship will close him down quicker than those in league 2. Hopefully he can score soon and that will give him a boost in confidence. One for the future.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2016 18:10:38
think me and you are just going to have to agree to disagree on wood aus. why has he shot his bolt? i'm not saying he's the best striker in the world (! ) , and yes he misses chances, show me a striker that doesn't, but for me he's a big part of leeds utd at the moment. he's not lazy despite what some people think, he's going to be our leading scorer, give him proper service and he'll score goals. we miss him when he doesn't play and when the team gels he'll go on a real run of form if we all get off his back and let him play with confidence. like I say he's not the best in the world but I feel he's a scapegoat for too many folk and I don't think that's right. still family but let's just agree to disagree fella? MOT.

14 Sep 2016 19:53:07
"Wood is a bit of an enigma rhino. When he plays, he's lambasted for missing sitters"

The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!

He is a burden to the team and the club, and the more he misses the more he becomes so?

Surely it is obvious he is not the 'consistent' striker we need?

Sorry to say I'd rather have kept Antennuci in the team and let Wood go.

Anybody that saw the game
What's the story? Good to get win and good that monk finally drops players that need it. But
How did we play?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Sep 2016 02:33:34
Aussie, it was a relief to get the win not only the fans but you could see it also in the players, it was better than Saturday but took us till last 3rd of the game to realise you play the ball forward instead of sidewards backwards all the time and you do it quicker and play it to Sacko then end result is a goal, I think dropping wood gave him a kick tonight, on the plus side the defence is without doubt better since Pontus came in, apart from us being done again by an identical goal for Blackburn that cost us against the doggies from distance although a good strike from their lad we should have closed him down quicker, impressive debut from o kane really like the look of this all action forward thinking midfielder, some of our play was really good aussie and yet some requires more coaching, good team spirit with the lads tonight even after they equalised late on, Pontus was class again tonight charging out of defence at will playing almost like a cultured midfielder, Pablo was off key by his standards good return from dallas who worked hard and did all the under the radar nitty gritty stuff, not too worried about the performance at times good at times average, all that matters to me is the 3 points some glimpses of what GM is trying to achieve, long way to go, though that's where I will end my assessment of tonight's game mot ๐Ÿ˜Ž.
