Anyone else think Byram would be great in centre midfield as a creative attacking midfielder role?

Nah, IMO that wouldn't play to his strengths. You need a solid ball winner in the middle who can move the ball around. He does a great job of keeping up with pacy tricky wingers! And his trump card is that he can then attack the wing, most tricky wingers are too arrogent to try and win the ball back! Hopfully this is something that will benifit us thoughout next season!

I am getting a little puzzled and concerned about all the posts saying that we don't need many in as we have loads of kids coming through. I am all for using our fantastic youth players, but they need to be phased in, not just dropped in. People are coming on here saying 'get rid of Brown, as we have Thompson'.
Lets just have a think about what has happened to Villa this season, who was it that said 'you don't win things with kids'. Fergie did it right, loads of experience and phase in the kids and 13 PL titles later he is a legend and has an amazing legacy.
So, this is only my opinion - TRUST BM TO DO HIS JOB, HE KNOWS HOW TO TURN A AVERAGE TEAM TO LEAGUE WINNERS AND ALSO HOW TO BRING YOUTH THROUGH! hopefully he'll bring in 7 established quality players and put the kids in as and when HE feels appropriate.
Please feel free to disagree, as I am sure I am in the minority.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have the courage of your convictions mate, if you're going to make a bold statement then stand by it, don't back down by saying you're the minority.

Agree0 Disagree0

O. P. here. Foxrat I don't quite follow. Just by saying i'm in the minority doesn't mean I'm not standing by what I said, just more people think different to me. Please explain your thinking.

Agree0 Disagree0

The issue is that Leeds will not be bringing in 7 currently established players, its not BMD style.

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here. Then if he doesn't wish too then that's his choice. I will stand by what I said earlier, we should just leave him to do his job, but he won't just rely on just the kids, I'm sure they will be phased in and not all start every game from August, therefore a number of established players will need to be brought in, otherwise we will have exactly what we have had this year.

Thompson should be in for brown. Green and austin are way better than brown to and we have plenty of expirience in other areas. If you are good enough your old enough. Poleon, thompson, cairns, killock and the turners all took accolades, be it multiple MOM awards or player of the season while out on loan and deserve to be in/around the 1st team squad. JT-lufc

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here. I agree that if your good enough and also that they should be in and around, but we can't rely on them, not because they aren't talented, but because we do still need established players. I say again look at Villa, solid mid-table side to almost relegation because they had a combined age of about 15! i'm NOT SAYING DON'T USE THEM, JUST don't RELY ON THEM ALL SEASON.

Agree0 Disagree0

By saying '' i'm sure i'm in the minority'' doesn't strengthen your statement and makes me believe that everyone else has a stronger and more valuable point. {Ed003's Note - I don't think it was meant to, the poster was just pointing out he felt he would be in the minority and you are that strange you are finding a problem with his/her wording instead of joining in the debate he started.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange? meaning weird or unusual, please explain ED {Ed003's Note - You never entered the debate about what he was saying you were just being a smart arse picking out a quote and trying to be clever,strange,weird or unusual tbh I'm not arsed what you call it}

Thanks ed, glad you understand my post.

I have read all my correspondence through at least 3 times, at first I couldn't see owt' wrong but after the third reading I now see the OP's point and because of that I apologise to the OP, can I also say that there was no malice intended as ED's intervention hinted at and I agreed with almost all he/she stated.

Hi foxrat. thanks for this, your a gentleman. m. o. t. -next season will be the best for many a year (i hope)

I hate it how people are linking us with Adomah and other players from relegated teams we done the same last season with Norris Pearce and varney and people had a go at warnock because we bought a player from a relegated team it'd the same this season.

Del boy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The players from Pompey have been some of our best this year. Norris is solid, Varney has had a good end to the season and Ashdown isn't a back keeper.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not that it's the fact that people last year had a go because they were crap

Del Boy

Agree0 Disagree0

Ithink out of those three Ashdown is the best, hands down.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ashdown is so poor.

1 centre back (Matt mills £1M)

1 creative midfielder
(jamie o'hara, alan judge - both free or lewis mcgugan-£1. 5M)

2 wingers (chris humphreys-free and adomah-£1M)

1 Striker (Doyle-free, Sharp-£1M or Church?)

This is what we need! We have a decent, solid squad to build on and this quality would mean spending about £3M probably. I think this is realistic considering we spent about 2M last year, so the board would match that again this year plus we will get some small fees for fringe players.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alan judge going to blackburn mate

I would love to see Ian Harte back at Leeds, yeah he is getting on, but he can still cut it in the Championship, not to mention the bonus of grabbing the odd goal from free kicks and his general supply into the box.

I see Byram being linked with everyone, hardly surprising given the season he has had, however I do hope somehow we manage to keep him and Tom Lees.

We have released 10 players so far, meaning we are going to need at least 8 back in, for us to have a promotion challenging SQUAD, that is without anyone else leaving of course, chances are we aren't going to have the money to bring in 8 quality players so I am expecting a few freebies and loanees on there way.

MOT SussexLeeds

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ian Harte has ruled this out himself, we have 3 players at left back Warnock, Dury, & White another left back is not warranted.

AS for needing at least 8 players in because we have released 10 you are forgetting that Poleon, Zac Thompson, Chris Dawson, Ross Killock, Lenighan and both Lewis Turner & Nathan Turner are ready to break through to be regular senior players, I really can't see Leeds bringing in 8 players from outside of the club, it's just not warranted.

does anyone have any info on how charlie taylor's been ding at inverness, they've had a really good season but he doesn't seem to have played that much

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Since his loan move in January he's played 6 times 3 coming as a Sub in the SPL and he's played in 1 cup game.

Both his loan moves this season have been pretty pointless he moved to York when they had Jamal Fyfield in the left-back position so he was 2nd pecking order, then he moved to ICT and again was 2nd in the pecking order as Graeme Shinnie was first choice he's come through ICT youth system his elder brother plays for ICT.

When he's played his showed his quality pace, attacking & defensive attributes.

Leeds have got both his loan moves completely wrong imo & if anything the loans have probably slowed his development. Poor by LUFC

Having recently seen that the Bahrain-based investment bank only paid £2.5m for their 10% share, I began to wonder how much the budget for this year actually is. I believe about £2m would be made available from this investment with GFH contributing a further £1m (their only profit from last year) towards the budget. Would we be better off getting frees and spending £3m. or selling Byram for £8m and getting him back on loan for a season and having around £9m altogether to spend on other players? (After agents fres etc) that would enable us to buy at least four quality players as well as a bunch of free transfers. Sounds like a good plan to me?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

16 May 2013 12:13:00
i agree with the latter, I hate seeing our kids being sold on but if its a deal in our interest which will help us achieve our goals then I would. sell byram for 8 mill with a season long loan back to us and then spend the funds on a few quality players. if a star is soldd but the money is put back into the team the fans shouldn't have a problem its just if they do a bates and keep the money for themselves!

Agree0 Disagree0

16 May 2013 12:37:42
If we do sell and the money IS reinvested and we still don't come up what then? Sell lees poleon or dawson maybe? BMD got to a play off final and then won the league without spending any where near 9m in both seasons combined. can't believe so many fans pushing for sam to be sold! The best part of a defence its taken years to get right. JT-lufc

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to STOP selling our players full-stop. GFH to either put up or shut up. Sick and tired of being a selling club and you lot need to take a long look in the bloody mirror at how you all just accept this is how it is going to be with us and grow a pair. Call yourself Leeds fans. Revie would have a bloody fit.
Liverbird

Agree0 Disagree0

Leeds have never been cash rich we have always had to deal and maneuver, I have no problem with the sale of players as long it is in the long term benefit of the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

We must keep our best players byram lees, ect and build around them, if we sell byram only a small portion of the cash will be invested in the squad, the owners MUST show the fans that they have the ambition to take us forward

Agree0 Disagree0

We always sell one of our best players per transfer window, there is no way bayram will be at Leeds in August, Liverpool for about 4 million I think.

Agree0 Disagree0

OP here -
I don't for one minute actively want Byram to leave, but I think we need to be realistic. Yes he is the best player we've had in a long, long time come through the academy but £8m creates a challenging Championship team quite easily, then even if he doesn't come back the season after, Peltier is a good right back at this level. It leaves the club in a much better state if he did get sold than if he stayed. However, I want us to keep him and invest a bit. It's all about making a statement and keeping Byram would make that statement

Ian harte considering a move back to Leeds after being released by Reading. Quality player, adds experience to a young defense, free kicks & corners sorted, free signing. No brainer. Sign him up.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Experience? he couldn't defend himself so what is he going to teach anyone?

Agree0 Disagree0

You mean you have no brain. Ian bloody Harte. get a grip will you. Leave it in the past. NOT good enough, we should be aiming higher.
Liverbird

Agree0 Disagree0

A man that scored 10 set piece goals for Reading in their promotion push is not needed - if he did that for us he'd be second top goal scorer at the moment, oh but we don't need him as he's from the past.
Pretty sure Lee Bowyer would have come in very handy last season when there was no creative flair, ah but wait he's from the past so we can't have him.
I'd rather have the quality players from the past. They know what the clubs about and they many of them have good Prem and European experience. here's an example:
Frazer Richardson or Lee Peltier
Paul Robinson or Paddy Kenny
Milner or Green
Lennon or Varney
All the above are far better players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverbird is right, we must move on, Ian Harte was brilliant 15 years ago, now let's go find another one.

Agree0 Disagree0

In response to the 4th post. You may rather have the quality players of the past but we can't afford them!
Whilst I liked Ian Harte & his dead ball specials he struggled to defend for us years ago as he was too slow. He isn't going to be any quicker now.
Its no good scoring 10 goals a season if he's going to give away 10+
