Cellino will be waiting for the cash from Everton before we can sign anyone. Not to sure the lad from Exeter is what we need at this moment in time. We need a proven goal scorer and not one for the future. League 2 is not the same as the Championship. Equally not sure Lafferty is the answer either. If the wide men can get the crosses in Wood will get on the end of them.

Don't want to slate the Douk too much, but some of the attempts at finishing in that first half were terrible. When is the big man going to give ant a start . He would have gobbled up at least one of those chances and is a lot more mobile . Give the man a chance.

Just been re-reading a report from earlier in the week in which Steve Evans is quoted as stating that he was confident of adding to the group by Saturday evening after the Sheffield Wednesday game. Have I missed something?
Maybe we have been waiting for the Byram deal to be done and dusted.
He says we need three or four more players to improve the quality of the squad. Not sure where we are going to get them from.
I know it's a cliche but we need to strengthen the spine of the team - GK (after yet another abject display from Sylvestri) , CB, CM (creative) , ST.
Unfortunately by the end of January our season could be over and we could end up having to stave off the possibility of relegation. Hope not but I've drifted back into the realms of pessimism again.
Not unusual but getting fed up of it.

Just glad it seems like its been put to bed! Will he? Won't he? How much? Etc! Sams made his decision! Time for both him and Leeds to move on!

He will have to improve tremendously if he were ever to represent England

I am a fan of Sam, and wish he had stayed but all the luck to him going forward, but he wasn't that good!

I know Silvestri made some absolute howlers on Saturday and he does quite a bit. But he also does keep us in lots of matches. I think he's a great keeper for this level and he's only 24. 24 is much younger than first thought for a goalie and he can only get better with experience like them mistakes. Obviously Saturday's result was almost all down to his performance. But I don't think we should call for him to leave. Maybe a better 2nd keeper to keep the pressure on. But he definitely shouldn't be sold.

Need a good goalie coach or someone who can challenge for his place and sit him on the bench for a couple. Very good goalie but obviously not being coached right or is too complacent.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2016 18:57:55
Silvestre has improved of late and is a good shot stopper however if he was commanding of his box he may reduce the amount of saved he has to make. The defense needs to be stronger but a quality keeper is a supporting factor in this. Don't disagree he can improve and suggest he already has but he definately needs pressure from a good number 2.

Agree1 Disagree2

17 Jan 2016 21:01:03
Dont think he is good enough really. Too many mistakes. Granted he makes good saves but let's be honest all goalies do at Championship level. His all round game is not good enough. Kicking, catching and commanding the area are all poor. The best goalkeeping coach in the world cannot improve this geezer to a standard that is needed.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2016 21:48:53
I agree. Waaaay to dodgy a goalkeeper. He needs time to mature behind a solid number one.

Look at the previous gk's we've had over the past years.

Martyn, Robinson, Sullivan, ankergen, kasper.

Can you really compare Silvestre to any of these (other than the 2 whilst we were in league 1 to which I would say he is on par at best) ?

Surely we need to be moving forward and to have a goalkeeper that commands from the back and the defence the rest of the team has full confidence is is imperative.

Evans thinks Belusci was outstanding at Sheffield. I thought he was very good too. However, given the foreign interest it could be that he is just 'bulling' him up to get a better price.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Jan 2016 23:32:49
We need 2 new CBs, bamba too many errors, bellusci too many errors and always out of position leaving us exposed not disciplined enough, Cooper not enough pace to cope with quick championship strikers, needs to start bullying his opponents not tough enough all 3 are currently not good enough to get us out of this league, even Bridcutt has got his work cut out to try to shield them all there were times during the game bridcut Had to play CB as both bellusci and cooper had gone walk about, too many free headers going unchallenged, too much messing about defensively not enough putting their foot through it in our own box. I could go on but let's hope there are some new central defenders walking through Thorpe arch in the next few weeks! but who are they? and where are we going to get them from? answers on a postcard to Massimo, peace fellow leeds sufferers.

Anyone think Doukara could play the number 10 role behind Wood? He's not an out and out striker, but holds the ball up well and has good movement off the ball and helped set up a couple of goals in the last few weeks. He has more creativity than Cook who is being wasted in a position that he can't play.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

17 Jan 2016 14:09:10
No, he does not have enough guile to be effective in that role.

Agree3 Disagree1

17 Jan 2016 17:58:21
He should play behind wood cook is not good behind striker n when douk came on against wolves in that role he was reason we won.

Agree0 Disagree2

17 Jan 2016 18:51:32
When douk and ant first came they both played up front and scored goals, then we changed to one up front. Douks plays best behind front man. Sadly to play with two strikers you need a sound defence.

Agree0 Disagree1

17 Jan 2016 21:12:07
OK. let's play them both up top and see what happens. Even more losses! Douk got a few goals at the start of last season granted, but he is far from being a regular scorer or playmaker. If Douks is our number 10 we are well and truly knackered.

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Jan 2016 22:05:59
With the back four we have we will have plenty losses anyway, Not saying douks is ideal but lone striker he is not. Worst place you can play him in. Ant can't play up front on his own either, erwin apparently not good enough so untill we get that 6 million pound striker who sjould play up front? Wotton.

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Jan 2016 10:21:06
No one! Wood up top when he is fit.
We need Bridcutt and Cook to protect the back 4 with Mowatt Dallas and Carayol the rest of the midfield. Maybe Adeyemi for Mowatt to make the centre an even tighter three. That's how I see it anyway until we get 2 new CBs, an experienced CM and a nippy striker. An experienced keeper wouldn't go amiss either.

Let's face it we are still in the self defeating cycle since Ken Bates took his bat home. The quality of our academy is excellent and we continue to bring on talented young players. However they never have the chance to develop alongside quality experienced players. Lads like Bremner came in and had a bit of experience around them. If you ask fans who is our best player many would say Cook. That shouldn't be. He is 18 years old with a lot to learn but the weight of expectation is too high. At the moment is decision making is not brilliant at times and his composure in front of goal is poor. But no matter he will get there with the right support. let's look at the team. We have a very good (potentially) goalkeeper who makes mistakes. He is young and there is little back up. The back four is solid enough but makes mistakes and is unbalanced (3 centre halves can't be good. The mid field is not strong or creative enough and we haven't got a natural goal scorer. For us to win we need the four parts of that team playing at least at 90% effectiveness and very few mistakes. Against Wednesday first half three out of four were good but no goals. Second half at best only two and there were mistakes. Comparing Leeds with Wednesday, who I don't think will go up. They have better goalkeeping options. Their back four is not much better (if at all) than ours. Their mid field is significantly better. Bannan is better than Bridcutt and Forrestierie is better than the rest of ours. Up front they have Hooper is not much good at anything other than scoring goals so he stays put where he is most effective. We have strikers who play all over the park and have trouble getting into the box when needed. Given the state of the club we can't attract the best available if other clubs come in as well. Take Lafferty. If he's our choice. A striker who can't get into a team that can't score goals. Worse still, he only became interested in us when he realised he wasn't wanted anywhere else. We generally don't get the players we actually want. Bridcutt was a good loan but Wednesday did better with Bannon. We didn't get Forrestierie but Wednesday did and then Hooper. A striker who can actually score. Wednesday are doing so much better than us and I still don't think they will go up. We need to get our reputation sorted, stop the owner insulting players that don't do as he likes, let the manager manage and spend cash on players we actually want and not on poor substitutes when we don't the ones we actually want.

Wondered if anyone would question the Bannan idea. Looking at him on Saturday. He put himself about and broke up a lot of our possession. He also intercepted a lot of passes and whilst been exactly the same as Bridcutt he's near enough to draw a comparison. He just seemed busier and his passing and reading of the game was also good. Bannan didn't do that well at Leeds but we were playing 'hoofball' at the time. Don't get me wrong though I like Bridcutt but he is still on loan.

The scoreline yesterday would have been different if only we had a mobile striker who can convert the half chance that crops up each game. All we seem to have now are hard working runners who get in the right positions but fluff their lines at the last second. They need to "take a breath" and finish clinically when the ball is bobbling about the penalty spot. I am sure such a creature exists elsewhere it is speed of thought as much as skill and some say in born, rather than learned. It is down to our scouts to unearth the next Fowler/ Owen/ Defoe who afterall before they were famous were playing in the lower leagues and junior teams.

In my opinion, Forestieri should be banned for next next match and the referee should by fired by the FA. He made a stupid decision and the goal was legitimate. I also believe we should be granted a replay late in the season if that is possible and all Leeds fans should be allowed 1 punch on the ref.

Doukara will get picked for the next game too I think, I was cursing him yesterday at each of the chances he missed but as the game progresses you see positive aspects to his game. He work hard, holds play up well and complements other players strengths, and of course he is strong. Having said all of above he is frustrating as he lacks consistency, he's a marmite player!.

I think it's a shame we are losing Sam Byram but I wish him well.

Chris Wood has never convinced me he is a talented consistent Striker, the winner against Derby earlier in season was a glimpse of what I hoped he would produce frequently for us, sadly not. I think he has struggled to settle in and adjust at Leeds and IMO he is not happy. If only we had signed the likes of Forresteri, Hooper, or Graban. Not keen on Lafferty or Stokes but what will be, sell Wood if we can get a decent price.

Antenucci is not a team player, seeks they glory route instead of passing and it's possibly time for him to move on. Then what do we do for a recognised forward who works hard and scores goals instinctively if we move on Wood, Lucy, and Doukara? But that's what I feel we have been lacking since McCormack!

Above aside We have to sort out the defence first, having to score 2 or 3 to win or draw is no good because we can't defend.

Like what SE is doing to get best out of our current squad, it's work in progress.

A frustrating game yesterday because for large parts of the first half we retained possession and created more shots on goal. Even though we lost 2-0 I can't remember Sheff Wed getting behind our defence and therefore were restricted to shots from distance. The main difference between the sides is that they had a finisher in Hooper. I would argue that Hopper was ineffective for the majority of the game apart from he took his chances. I suspect that he would have taken Doukara's chance had he played for us. Not being ruthless in front of goal coupled with our ability to make defensive mistakes most games leaves us as a mid to lower championship team.
