Fantastic news that Zan Benedidic does not need an operation and is back in training. Can't wait to see him in the team, as I still think he could turn out to be our best signing of the summer

Sorry Speedy, but on what basis?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah. As the stranglers once said
Get a??

he came on as sub and was rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

What for 10 mins against Accrington! He's is highly rated by AC Milan not AFC Bournemouth, have a little faith.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well of course I could be completely wrong and he might be sh**e, but with maybe the exception of Adryan, Benedicic (spelt correctly this time I think), seemed to be the player who was best known and most highly rated by the foreign press when we were on our signing spree, and there were (foreign) sports writers who thought it was quite a coup that we landed him. Of course Corky, need to balance that against the few minutes you saw him play as sub. I bet you thought Antenucci was going to turn out to be a right plank when he was caught offside about 3 million times in his first game

Agree0 Disagree0

Apologies Corky, was upupandaway who has judged him already

Ausman

Once again I nearly missed your hidden gem. Have you ever thought about teaming up with BW? You could be the new Morecambe and Wise! (oh wait, that's Ant and Dec innit)

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry speedy I work alone like monty python

Ignore my original post about my ZB delight. He's had a knee op after all, so let's not get excited for a while yet

Mornin everybody peeps innit. Just want to say, at the risk of incurring operation yew tree, give me the youth. I mean, the idea of cultivating youth is to use it? These guys have lived football for years, they have played together and know each other. Take Cook, already won an International Tournament with England, considered by many as a stand out player this season. Apply the rule of not playing youth and he would be the first not playing, he is 17. Stokes just scored 3 goals for his country, Mowatt already made 40 appearances for Leeds at 19. Byram into his 3rd season. The hardest thing for good young players is to make the breakthrough, without it they are lost to us. Given the chance they could be immense in years to come. Remember, this is not just youth, this is M&S youth.

Good point but they burn out easy and get injured and then take ages to regain form. Look at byram. Still only 70% his last year form!
I would love to have 7-8 under 20s with an experienced goalkeeper. Batty in midfield and a striker that scores. But if we suddenly lost 5-6 younguns to injury. We are forked!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's the genius of Redders Aus, he knows exactly how to use the youth correctly and to our best advantage. He has already alluded to the mis management of Byram. Look how he has played in his last couple of matches with Redders in charge. With Deputy Redfearn and his young talented posse, the future is extremely bright

Nothing wrong with playing youth, if they good enough then get them in. As ausman says younger players often go off the boil so at that point, drop them to refresh to ease their growing pains.

Having said that you do need some experience in the spine of the team ideally, center half, central midfield, or a leader who doesn't have to be the most gifted player but shows the way for the others.

To me age is not an issue, look at SW, for me our best player this season to date, c Cook looks at good player but I would not drop Warnock unless he starts to play poorly, that should apply to youngsters/older players the same.

Main advantage younger players have is that why not try them and see how they do if they have done it in training/u 18/21 level etc, we all know about the likes of Murphy (poor), Tonge (ok sometimes), these players ain't going to change and if not good enough, I would play a youngster to see if any better.

Having 4-5 young players in the team no bad thing, but perhaps anymore may be a risk too far.

we had a young team b4 and they played in champions league

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye upandaway and they weren't bad 'an all! Nowt wrong with young players. Imo opinion they are a bit more eager to get on with their job than some of the older heads

We have enough youth available in certain positions to warrant rotating between Youth players e.g Purver, Denton and then the ones that have already broken through
