Good evening to all leeds utd supporters, as this is a glasgow rangers supporter who is wanting your take on how highly you guys rated your former player kemar roofe. I'm a season ticket holder and shareholder of glasgow rangers for 40+ years now and follow my club everywhere, just like you guys do following leeds utd! I've always liked leeds utd to do well because my cousins and uncle are big leeds utd season ticket holders of many years now. I was delighted when we signed your former player kemar roofe from anderlecht, as i truly think he's a cracking player and obviously seen him quite a bit when i was watching the leeds games when he played for you guys. He's now fit at rangers and playing superbly well and scoring goals. All us rangers supporters rate roofe very highly! He's already got a very good goalscoring record for us and he's got superb ability. He's terrific on the half turn, with terrific close control and will be one of the main reasons that rangers will win the league title this season in my opinion! How highly did you guys rate roofe when he played for leeds utd? I think he'll be one helluva signing for us! A bargain from anderlecht for between £4million-£5million! I wish you guys all the very best of luck in your first season back in the english premier league where you most definitely belong! Hope you beat man utd tomorrow, all the best guys!

Hi KR25
Roofe can be injury prone but other than that for me he is a very good asset for Rangers. Very disappointed when he left Leeds.

Worked hard, but as Baz said injuries were always a concern.
If he stays fit you'll have a solid player there.
Best of luck stopping Celtic making the 10.

Good in the air

Honest player

Good finisher

Touch of class

Great player who will rip the league up and great value for money just needs luck with injuries.

Kemal Roofe was a good asset to Leeds Utd, I believe Bielsa rated him highly too. Sadly Radz had to cash in on him as his contract was drawing to an end. I think the sight of approximately 7 Mil in a cash strapped league probably left our chairman with no choice.
Bielsa found his best position which was striker and as you mentioned good on the half turn and knew instinctively where the net was.
The negative side is that he can be a little light weight when it comes to injuries.
Hope he continues to remain fit and helps you win the title fella, good to see Rangers back.

Roofe was great for us. A bit small but made up for it with skill. Was sad to see him go but we were desperate for the money and we received a good offer.

Roofe was and is a honest player, gives his all but injuries was his downfall at leeds. Scored goals for fun at lower league level at Oxfordshire, perhaps jumped ship too early at Leeds would be interested to have seen how he would have faired in the top league. Wish him all the best in his career.

{Ed001's Note - well no mate, because Jose said we were lucky against Spurs, and we created more chances against them, so obviously the better team lost again and we were just even more lucky... ;-)

Congratulions Ed001

Liverpool remain the team to beat and will be champions again this season. Still think one of the hardest matches Liverpook had was tbe Leeds game; we really deserved a draw from it.

Just one Liverpool defeat a one off crazy freak result against Vile, if that match was played again today between those 2 teams a convincing Liverpool win would ensue.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - these kind of freak results will happen a fair bit this season I think. All the games so close together and all the injuries and covid isolations will mean there will be a lot of cobbled together teams. Makes it more exciting though!}

Got thinking about my first ever Leeds game that I went to. I was a young lad and my best mates dad was a Brummie, B’ham City supporter. That day was 29th December 1973. St. Andrews.
We were obviously situated somewhere in the home crowd, I remember my mates dad distinctly telling us to take off our Leeds scarfs as he didn’t want to be mistaken for a Leeds fan and get a bloody nose, as he put it.
Never forget that feeling of the crowd chanting and how it resonated through my whole body.
Remember saying to my mates dad, ”why are the Leeds fans louder than the Blues”?
He didn’t respond, I think knew why but didn’t want to admit it.
Blues went ahead just before half time and it wasn’t until the 90th minute when my schoolboy Leeds Utd hero, Joe Jordan scored the equalizer. Me and my mate were jumping in the air, my mates Dad had a look of sheer fear and terror, needless to say he grabbed us both by the collar and we left very sharpish.
Did anyone else have a memorable first match, young or old.
A side note, Leeds were really hated in those days and I think my generation and older, 50+ still feel that hatred towards Leeds, mind you there was generally a lot more rivalry and hatred between clubs in the 70’s/ 80’s period.

Good one OP. Mine was 1965 at Elland Road, a pre season friendly against Scunthorpe. We won 3 - 1, but Gary Sprake got sent off, so Alan Peacock went in goal. It was our second season back in Division 1, after we had just lost the League on Goal Average and the Cup Final in extra time.

Love reading sharing stories like this - I'm in London so don't get to many. My dad and I made it to my first leed's game back in 2002/ 03 season away at Southampton where we lost 2-3. James Beattie ruining it for us that day although getting to see Nigel Martyn (my hero as a young lad who played in goal) even just on the bench made my day.

Times changed and my next Leeds game (and first at Elland Road) was in 08/ 09 a 1-0 home win against Stockport.

Worst ever Leeds game attended 0-3 home loss against Swindon anchored by Charlie Austin and Billy Paynter in 09/ 10 leaving me convinced we'd blow promotion again

Best ever Leeds game a certain 0-1 win at some dump called Old Trafford on Jan 3rd 2010 Dad bought the tickets late so they only had hospitality left even better. Was in the United end and quiet for fear of getting kicked out but it transpired that half the guys our immediate area where in the same situation - stayed quiet to naturally but just had to be at the game. Seeing how it was cold was wearing the leeds shirt under about six layers :)

First game was December 2007 vs Huddersfield, on the 10th anniversary of Billy Bremner’s death. We had 35,000 fans packed into the ground, and we won 4-0. Fantastic game and just remember the noise. Amazing game.

love these stories and as a fellow Londoner Ealing I feel your pain

my best crowd story was at Palace, my best mates dad was a goalkeeper who played for Millwall and Charlton and at the time was a coach at Palace and he got us tickets for the F. A cup game. We was five minutes or so late and got to our seats just as leeds scored. me and my step dad got up going mental and cheering only to look round to see we was in the home stand. chants of sit down before we beat you up (to go west) starting ringing round. later in that game the great nigle matyn (who we just signed from palace) saved a penalty before they scored from the rebound, a bloke behind tapped my step dad on the shoulder and said. bet you have never been so glad to see leeds conceded because if we didn't get the rebound you would not of been walking out of here.

Remember that Brum game well OP. Easter I think. Our bus took an age to get there and we were locked out of the Leeds end. I was watching the game on a monitor at a BBC van when a copper said they were still open at the Brum end. Managed to get in but kept my mouth shut. At half time there was an announcement the IRA had put a bomb in the main stand and the gates were open to let spectators out, of course hundreds got in. Last minute JJ put the ball past Gary Sprake for the draw. Going back to the bus was carnage, Brum fans wrecking the area, coppers too scared to go down to where the buses were, each and every one had their windows put through. Very cold journey home. Footbalł in the seventies was a dangerous hobby.

First game at Elland Road was 81 when we drew 3-3 with my local team West Ham. Had been to a few London matches before but first time at Elland Road was amazing. If I wasnt already totally hooked I was then, I even met the players and manager, Allan Clarke as I was 11 and quite Ill at the time. Club were incredible and Kevin Hird looked after me for most of my time there.

Can't actually remember the first game as we went from being so young.
Earliest I remember was FA Cup game vs Wimbledon when they were non league.
Remember a Womble mascot carrying me onto the field and the disappointment when Guy saved the penalty.
We had season tickets near the tunnel and remember Bremner would often ruffle my hair on his way onto the field. Happy days.

Great stories. My first visit to church was actually a testimonial foe John Charles and Bobby Collins which saw a Leeds 11 with other stars including King Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush take on Everton. I believe it was 1988 and my dad, brother and I were at the back of a packed and very noisy kop. Leeds came out 3-2 winners in a very entertaining game.

My first game is a blur but I do seem to a big win against SWansea in the 1962/ 63 season. The main memory for me is the privilege of seeing all the giants of the game coming through that year and one of my early heroes, Bobby Collins.

A post for VD, in regards to your comment on Leeds being universally hated and not liked. Bermo was right, people around 50+ do hate Leeds, and people around my age, 21, do like Leeds cause of our scintillating football and our maverick of a manager. I'm from West Sussex near brighton and had to put up with all sorts of rubbish, with most my friends being Chelsea, Liverpool and man United fans. But now, only the older generation hates Leeds, and the younger generation admire us. Plus, never seen a villa fan in the wild, do they actually exist? Just curious.

dil, another unfortunate abbreviation, still won`t go there. I will satisfy your curiosity dil, we are out there fella, loads of us, we have a huge fan base as you well know, but we are not wild, also we are voted by many as some of the best travelling fans.
But I tend to agree about the 50+ age thing, but the Leeds sides under Revie were very special, and just as cavalier as Leeds today.

Footnote: I notice your still there again Mr BV.

why would BV not be on his own clubs page?

for the record I liked villa growing up, les sealey was a great keeper and playing in goal I always liked teams with good keepers, Tony Daley was also class and exciting and for me should of played more

now I repect the villa manager for the job he has done, I love Grealish as a top top player. just can't get over the dirty double standards of us giving a goal to you and boss saying right thing to do, yet the mistake with goal line technology not doing the same thing. you should of gone down and fair play for being dirty S""Gs but you must admit it was a proper S"""gy thing to do.

VillaDave We are hated but it's more of a jealousy. Everyone knows Leeds fans have more soul passion and decency than other fans. No other stadium produces the cauldron effect like Elland Road. We were the club who were instrumental in turning the 70s era into something of a golden age for viewing football. We were the first ever club recorded to showboat during a league game. We are a very nice city and don't share the burgeoning social problems seen across the Pennines. We are also centre of the Universe and capital of best county in world. No wonder we're hated!

Now that is a good post Berm, and I thank you for it.
That episode in that game has long gone, Beilsa did what he thought was right, a Brave man.
It all comes down to morals, and how it all unfolded, it was always going to be controversial.

The fact is it happened, right or wrong its gone and it can not be changed, let it go there are far better things to talk about.
I also agree on the Sheffield game, a perfectly good goal was scored, and if that was allowed we should have gone down.

VAR was also proved after games, to have robbed us of 7 points, 2 wins and a draw, so what else can I say.

Biesla was 100% wrong to concede that goal but I expect var evens out over 2-3 years.
