Wow
Lots of negativity on the drury signing
Never heard of him but happy that we signed a recognised left back
I been quite negative recently but I'm happy we're signing players people moan about him been free but would they sign Owen, reo Coker drogba Kalou?!?!?!
They would be accepted as free cos would be on big wages that's not always the answer lets get behind drury and the rest of the boys at least he wants to be there
Lets not forget our captain fantastic and our top scorer not signed yet
Maybe we should aim our venom more accurately
Me included
Russjon

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Why any venom to these people - any of them? You don't know what's going on behind closed doors. I say no to hate (well, maybe a pretty large overflowing mug full for Ken).... Dan archway

Agree3 Disagree1

Because there complaining about our signings when they should be looking at those holding the club to ransom
Snodgrass McCormack and white
Either sign or go they will never be bigger than Leeds utd and to be honest are massively overrated and are only championship players at best
Why call bares it seems he is backing the manager with signings at the minute

When alls said and done this is a Leeds Utd Rumour/Banter site, so we have to accept that posters will wind other posters up, it's the main reason why we all Veiw and post on here.

Warnock has always stated he would pick up a few freebies as well as those with a signing on fee. He also said he was looking to bring in experience and some for the future to get a blend. Well Drury is experienced. When was the last time we had a decent defensive left back. Let me think; Lowry, Dickinson, Mcartney, Sheehan? JD

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Think we have to go back to Dorigo for our last great left back. Harte was good but often exposed for pace as Wilko found to his cost when he was sacked.

Think we should phone norwich up and offer em half a million just to satisfy our fans. exactly the reason people stop going. love to sit and slag of the full team, bates and whatever else rather than get behind the team. call your selfsame fans?? PROVE IT!!
couldn't have a better manager at this level and he is doing what he does best

Just hope any new player coming into the club doesn't read this site, because with all the negativity and being slatted off before they even kick a ball if I were them I'd be having second thoughts. If you would rather be in Portsmouths or Rangers shoes then you'd have something to man about. Or am I wrong and when they step out on to the pitch I guess you moaners won't get behind them or will you? MOT in Warnock we trust. Phil Bramley

Believable6 Unbelievable1

The moan and groan club wont be happy choose who we sign,or who buys or invests in the club, they aint happy unless theyre stirring it,if we signed Messi theyd say we should have got Ronaldo,if they dont like it they should do one.

ok weve not signed Messi, here come the moaners about one signing! wish you lot would all shut up about the negatives and get behind the club and whoevers running it and whoevers in charge of the first team! our team is called UNITED, we dont seem to be at present! its a disgrace!

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I'm behind every player on the pitch and the manager, whoever that is and even if they wouldn't be my first choice, as Warnock wasn't, but I find it impossible to get behind Bates and object to being told I should - being a grown up and all.

Anyone who has wasted 4m+ of our money on losing libel cases because of his offensive, and in the view of the Levi case judge 'potentially criminal', programme notes is hard to back, not to mention the constant bad publicity over dodgy ownership issues, the loss of decent players like Howson, Johnson, Gradel, Beckford, White (in a few days), Kilkenny and others, the constant lies, money wasted on radio stations and corporate facilities...I could go on...

I've renewed my season ticket for 2012/13 but 3 of the 4 other people I go with each week haven't done just because they feel Bates is taking us for a ride. One of those people is my son and that really upsets me. Another season like last year and I'll be seriously thinking about whether I can take any more. I've been going since February 1970 and am lucky enough not to have to think about the cost so if people like me are considering not renewing then things are really bad.

You can lecture us all you like about being united but it isn't going to happen while Bates is at the helm. He's a cancer and the sooner we're cured of him the better.

Agree4 Disagree2

Im OP, i understand how you feel about it mate and i was frustrated with losing players like that for nothing, but i feel that its all in the past now, i feel its always what we 'were' or what we 'did' in the past so i think we should try n look forward, im not a Bates fan and never have been but i hope hes trying to find us some investment, i cant afford season ticket and nice that you have done credit to ya, but i still try go when i can afford to go to a game

Agree2 Disagree0

2nd poster here - despite having been brought up watching the Revie team I'm realistic about being what we are. Unlike some on here I realise that the Champions League won't be happening in 2 years and was very happy with 7th last year. I always thought it would take 3-4 years to get out of this league.

It's 'what we are' that bothers me. Not so much on the pitch, I can live with that, and I'm not one to whine about the free signing of Drury - he looks a decent signing to me. What bothers me is the money being wasted on non-football things, all of which are losing money.

Yorkshire Radio alone made a £1.5 million loss last year and that money came out of the football club. Bates created that radio station just because he has a beef with the BBC - he calls it the 'Biased Bloated Corporation' in his programme notes - and wanted our home commentary off BBC Radio Leeds. He turned down 600k for the radio rights so his vanity is actually costing us over £2 million pounds per season just in radio related expenditure and, as a businessman myself, I don't see how YR can ever make a profit. That's a lot of money in our league and could be used to hold on to players like McCormack, White and Clayton, all of whom are good players at this level and they are here now, not in the past.

Now listen all Leeds fans, the drury signing is experience at the back, we need to sort the back four out, warnock knows what he wants, our back four over the last 3 years has been a joke, just let NW get on with it and stop complaining, by the time Wolves visit Leeds we will have a side that is solid, I want that and any reasonable Leeds fan wants that. Too many of you just like to pick faults in everything that Leeds do, now get on with it, stick together and let's do this together. Kevin Leeds 50 years.

dont understand what people want on here.were you expecting ashley cole perhaps, enrique?.look we have signed an experienced premier player who is very consistent.warnock says on o/s just how much he wanted him before.he isnt just a player off the scrapheap whom he didnt really want.we need alot of players so of course theres going to be a copule out of contract who will help us.so you dont think drury will be better than parker?.or better defensively than white.come on proof is in the pudding, stop knocking it already.when and if i see a full squad of his age and free then i might moan to but lets see whom we end up with...shrew leeds

I just posted about hoping my day wouldn't be ruined by signing Paddy Kenny and of course I spoke too soon instead we sign Adam Drury almost 34 and way past his best. If this is the standard of player we're signing then this takeover/investment talk looks like it's all a cover. Please let me be wrong and give us Leeds fans something to look forward to.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

For goodness sake! What a ridiculous comment.

We sign a full-back who played knocking on half of last season in the PREMIERSHIP, and we still have people moaning!

Get real and get behind Warnock. It's years since we've had a left back who can defend. And if we're going to be obsessed by age, how old was Gordon Strachan when we signed him?

Strewth!

Agree12 Disagree2

It's official! Bates is now firmly wedging one up Warnock's derriere. This must now scupper all the rumours about Bates being in ill-health, because he ain't got problems with flaccidity......

Agree3 Disagree4

Hes a good player!

Agree10 Disagree1

My comment is ridiculous?? I think you'll find the only ridiculous comment made is your bewildering one about Gordan Starchan (barely 32 at the time by the way not almost 34 like Drury), to use a plyer like him to compare players ages. He came from the scum when he was one of their best players not like Drury who only made appearances last season due to injuries for Norwich (huge club).

I only stated facts, Drury is a barely an average Championship player on his best day and you're happy with a signing like that.

Crikey!

Agree2 Disagree12

Perhaps you would be able to manage Leeds better than NW??? How come you aren't in the job then?
Chris

Agree9 Disagree1

Yes I think your comment was completely ridiculous!

Warnock has admired him for a number of years. I'd rather trust the judgement of a manager who has achieved promotion on numerous occasions than you, if you don't mind! I don't care if you've won the Champions League on a computer game, I'm only interested in the real world.

My comment about Strachan was pertaining to the fact that some people always complain about signing players the other side of thirty, regardless of their quality.

If you'd rather stick to the players in our joke of a team last season, so be it. Personally I'd rather go with Warnock's team and judgement.

Desperately want the Berard Arnault rumour to be true. However as stated by our wise ED wikedia surely is carrying the information he has purchased the club BUT that site can be edited. can sumone tell me what the big is about paddy kenny, i tihnk hes a decent keeper dont get me wrong, but i thought lonners done a good job for us last season..... dusnt seem like we need a new keeper in could do with some other positions first...

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Paddy has prem experience, been around the block and Goalies tend to improve with age Good addition if it comes about!

AntW

Agree4 Disagree0

Were you watching last season ? - Lonergans never going to be a top goalkeeper. I think Lonners has conceded over 140 goals in last 2 years - cant organise a defence, save long range shots or most things to his right!
Kennys quality and will be a fantastic signing.

Agree2 Disagree0

Bolton want to buy Lonergan, not sure Warnock is impressed after the Forest debacle, so maybe he could get the money back that Kenny costs. He obviously trusts him.

Agree2 Disagree0

Kenny won promotion 2 times lonergan relegated from this league,At times last year loners played well but at times he was awful ie forest every goal was down to bad keeping.IMO Kenny is in a different class to loners. And rumour has it he is having a medical today I for one hope it's true

Hi ed and fellow leeds fans, just wanted to point one thing out, In this day and age of accessibility to media coverage through various social and interweb sites it is quite astonishing how nobody actually knows anything about the takeover or investment at Leeds and I for one look at this as a positive step as the people involved are keeping things very close to their chest which in my eyes could mean a lot of money involved,

The jyg

Believable4 Unbelievable0

I have to say I'm astonished that there as been nothing not a thing nada come out of ER
If this was any other club I would say the only reason there has been no word of a Takeover is because there is no takeover ie nothing to be said

As it is with Bates been involved in any negotiations I would imagine there's plenty he doesn't want to come out
plenty in there he wants to keep quiet

Plus it will not be straight forward with Bates of shour accounts who owns this who owns that
It will be very dificult to get to the bottom of the financial structure of the club
Even more so when your dealing with Bates it must be like climbing into a bag of snakes

This is more of an observation than a rumour in itself, thats why ive put this on the banter section.

I don't know too much about big business takeover, it doesn't happen too much in a sparkies life, but the way I see it is that a price is agreed before talks commence and then that gives you the chance to look at the assets of the club and the accounts.

If there is a problem with the accounts or the list of assets would that allow the bidder to negotiate the price which would cause delay as new deals are drawn up (i'm also guessing that if the problems with accounts etc are too big any investor would walk away or sue for fraud for miss selling).

It's a simple question really but do you agree a fixed price at the start or can there be negotiation based on viewing the accounts/assets

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Anyone who agrees a price before looking at the books and assets needs his head testing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Generally speaking both sides have a rough idea of value based on a number of factors including the value of the balance sheet, gross profit and net profit and the sector. All of that information, albeit a little out of date, is in the public domain and can be downloaded for a fiver.

As a general rule, a healthy business would be looking for 5-7 times net profit or 3 times gross profit depending on the market conditions and type of business. Sometimes there are factors which can affect this though such as the potential of a new product or patent. One of my clients, which had never made a profit, sold his company for over 16 million on the basis of potential for example.

Football clubs do seem to sell for astronomical sums compared to other types of company. I guess that's down to the 'head ruling heart' syndrome which seems to affect otherwise very level-headed business people where football clubs are concerned. The football world is littered with once-rich directors who ploughed their shrewdly acquired, hard earned millions into the club they support only to see it evaporate a few years later.

Posted a reply earlier, but have been thinking about our situation, and I have come to the conclusion that all is not what it seems.... Personally, I think The talk of takeover is a bit far fetched... Naming rights to the ground is an obvious way of generating income to fund Neil's promotion.. Bates is a businessman, not a fan of Leeds.. Put yourself in his shoes - next season every club can basically only spend what it generates, AND has to balance its books accordingly.. Now that will include player wages, as well as transfer fees. In principle that means that all of a sudden even a modestly well off person can run a football club and be successful, especially when you have the level of income that we have. bates has the chance to invest very little, and because of the new rules still be able to compete for the title, and the 70-80 million windfall that comes with promotion... That's when, in my view he sells... Just after transferring our promotion winnings into the Pricipality of Monaco...

Just googled companycheck.co.uk and searched for Leeds united football club, gives information on the club Inc,
Current liabilities: £ 15,316,000
Current assets: £ 12,058,000
Net worth: £ 3,583,000
Bank account balance: £597,000
Graph shows 2010 bank balance the club had between £3,500,000- £4,000,000 so that's a huge chunk of money gone, obvious that we couldn't fund ward deal if this the accurate balance of the club, I made a check with my family business and the numbers are accurate. Am I reading into this the wrong way and being an person or not, any opinions on this?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

The Levi case cost us a lot of money and the balance sheet was pretty even at the last registered set of accounts.

The reality is that we've been making an operating loss ever since the administration and only players sales have kept us afloat. It's a pity so many people on here don't read or understand the accounts (I know that sounds patronising but it's true sadly) and seem to buying into the official Bates/Harvey line.

All the 'great businessman' stuff is bullish*t and all of the vanity projects such as the Pavilion, Yorkshire Radio and court cases are haemorrhaging cash which ought to be going into the team.

Given the drop in attendance last season and the reduced revenue for finishing 14th instead of 7th (well done Simon, 7th was a miracle given your lack of resources) I think we could be in serious trouble both on and off the pitch unless this takeover/investment actually happens.

Ever optimistic though...
