Hopefully Ekuban and Roberts come good. Think we still need a little more on the wings, as we have not strengthened this position, wonder if one of the u23s can make the step up? OConnor might fill the CH void ?

Not a season ticket holder but just been and booked the tickets for cardiff. I've been to 11 games this season, and we haven't lost a single one, i'm from hull and don't mind making a journey as its easier some of the time to go to away days. this season I've been to fulham home preston home burton home hull home boro home birmingham home port vale home hull away burton away sunderland away and now cardiff, hoping for a win and i'm confident we will, I've actually only seen leeds concede 2 goals this season! hoping for another clean sheet and a big game for felix but might be a struggle against gary madine, then again who cares little ty roberts is getting 2 on saturday. I have accepted that our transfer policy is limited by wages while also sharing limited funds between finding future talent and shoring up some first team holes. Overall I think we may have done some good business given these limitations. But at the end of the day the product on the field has to be good enough to ensure the gate receipts keep coming in at a high level and although I personally believe we have the talent to be successful and competitive this has not been seen on the pitch so for me the manager has lost the plot or never had a plot and is making it up as he goes along. As the transfer window has closed and we got in the players that we have, there isn't any point moaning about what we missed out on. The majority of the guys on this site talk a lot of sense as a whole and we all probably have our opinions on who and what players in what areas we needed. As much as I think TC is out of his depth, can't see any point changing him now. Hopefully something will be learnt and built apon for next season. Don't think we really want or deserve more of the same next season and can play a different building future record blah blah. Not truly expecting great things between now and the end of the season but hopeful. So now time to just get behind the team good or bad, please God let it be good. MOT.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Feb 2018 12:52:12
seen our transfer policy split people, truth is we will not know until further down the line. I like it in theory get some good youngesters in, build them as a team and do well, that will either help us on the pitch or sell one gem and we will be in profit, think it makes good business sense. I know orient very well and they really rate Dalby and brom seem to rate Roberts so they could be either 50 million profit or a great partenership, not to mention the others. I see the trouble is here and now but as I have said before this group of players is as good as those above us (apart from Wolves) forshaw and de block seem to be the answer to our problems and I still rate lasossga. Like last year if we don't make play offs it is down to gaffer and not the players, last year we should of gone up and this year we should make play offs, no point getting in top rate players like taylor, bartley and wood if you are going to have a fool in charge better off having a poor team like cardiff but with proper boss who has the team flying

Believable2 Unbelievable1

01 Feb 2018 13:25:34
We couldn't afford players like wood Taylor and Bartley Taylor wanted out Wood wanted out and Bartleys owners wanted money

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 14:00:03
But we can afford to waste money on players such as Sacko, Cibicki and Klich. Those fees could have bought a good Championship player.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 14:06:07
Think you've missed the point there Wex. I agree that we still have a great chance and its up to the boss to get a tune out of the players but it might just be taking TC a while to impose his philosophy on the team. i'm hoping that with the new arrivals things 'click' and we start putting better performances in - we just look lethargic too much of the time with no urgency. maybe TC needs to be a bit nastier and fire the players up a bit more?

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Feb 2018 14:38:01
I know wood wanted out (and rightly so) and taylor and bartley are out of my price range, my point was we had them all last year and no play offs? why because the sqaud wasnt good enough? course it with a good manager we could of been pushing for automatic certainly should of made playoffs but we had a 4/10 manager. This year our squad is a bit weaker but then the league is a lot lot weaker so we should be in playoffs but we are not due to a 4/10 manager, with cardiff, sheff utd, bristols manager we would be in playoffs, we don't need there players we need there manager, i don't mind a poor team i can support that but a under performing team really P""""es me off

Agree3 Disagree1

01 Feb 2018 17:47:16
Bermondsey, we should have built on what we had instead of letting players leave, last season was the best we had in some time, we were all very happy when Monk was appointed, but he lost the end of the season perhaps he knew the Radz did not really went him, I know that some were out of contact and some didn’t won’t to stay, we bought over 20 players and really we are worse off still we all hope that things will change.

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2018 23:11:23
no team can keep players, if arsenal lose players what chance does any champ team have? this is why we need best manager to capitalise when these players are here, why are we giving TC time when he ain't good enough, be another monk situation with poor manager then all of a sudden Pontus, saiz, alloiksi, Aling will be gone like wood, taylor, cook and bartley and we will be back at square one.

Everything starts and ends with the manager at this level. I pray to god I wake up tomorrow TC is gone and the right man is in place to get us up this year, while we still have the players we have. like last year, next year will be too late

Poor Eoghan Stokes shows the gamble of playing for the future. He was one who was lauded as the next first teamer with some calling for his inclusion only for his dreams to be dashed yesterday. brightwhite, you put it better then me but true.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 10:40:22
Willthewhite agree with you on those points also think there is an educational process involved in developing talented young players, bringing them through the academy and producing players who can play at the top level . This is most likely part of the clubs long term strategy, just like the Barcelona system to produce sustainable home grown talent, supplemented with expensive additions in positions where we do not have that quality coming through. Think this strategy is an important element for the club going forward and we might just be sowing the seeds for future success. Good plan if it comes off. When you look at it with the money spent on the ground, development players etc if this had been just spent on 6 or 8 first team players we would most likely be top of the league but the club might not think this is the sustainable way forward. There is likely the chance that when all this development structure is in place we will then go out and buy those extra players that will make the big difference. Which most likely the easiest piece in the jigsaw. Hope we do anyway.

Good post PA. I think this is quite clearly the plan, and like you, I really hope it pays off in the next 12 to 24 months!

01 Feb 2018 12:13:18
I agree a good plan to build the foundations of future success. My only question, again, is why are we so s**t in the development league?

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 12:50:21
I was wondering the same! Maybe there are so many players to choose from and it is difficult to keep them all happy.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 14:21:02
Probably because of the way we use the development league Leodis - if we aim to win it, we would want to have a sustained effort with the same players for consistency. If, on the other hand we are using it for experience and fitness and trying out different things then the overall league position would suffer. question is are we using it to develop players or to win the league? The development squad league position isn't really a reflection on anything in particular - Chelsea are 8th in Premier League 2 so does that mean all of their youth players are no good? not likely.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 14:23:31
We have brought a hell of a lot of players through over the last 20 yrs, from Milner, Delph to woodgate, Jewell, Kelly, smith, batty, speed, byron, Taylor, phillips, viera, what's going to happen to all our young lads in the academy system now? . all these foreign imports for the under 23's is going to have a massive knock on effect all the way through the academy ages 16 upwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 10:02:51
Later this month AR and VO are going to explain the clubs transfer policy and strategy. I am guessing we will hear the terms building for the future, laying foundations etc etc. The recent window for me showed either our total naivety of our current situation or a real gamble on our future. Our promotion rivals all strengthened their attacking options with proven goal scorers at this level and above Wolves - Adobe a 1 in 3 goal ratio, Fulham - Mitrovic 1 in just over 2, Cardiff- Madine 1 in 4 and Villa- Grabban 1 in 3. We have signed Tyler Roberts who has never scored a premiership goal, played or scored in the championship and has a 1 in 5 record at league 1 and 2 level. According to reports Roberts is highly rated, especially by West Brom. So highly rated that despite Rodriguez, Rondon and Robson - Kanu being in front of him West Brom go and sign Daniel Sturridge on loan. Tyler comes to our club having scored 9 goals in 44 lower league games, Kemar Roofe joined us having scored 24 goals in 56 games for Oxford and look how he has struggled at this level. Highly rated is a term that many of our new under 23 signings come with and it is this that worries me. We are gambling that promise and potential turns into consistency, skill, work rate, talent, ambition and desire in order to get us out of the toughest league in the world. We have over the years produced some great players for this club Smith, Robinson, Woodgate, Milner, Lennon, Delph, Byram, Cook, Howson and Taylor to name a few. Poor management of our club led to many of them leaving but then having good youngsters in a poor unambitious side has also led to players leaving. I genuinely hope that Tyler whacks in the winner on Saturday and that Madine misses a sitter in the 90 th minute but the long term is my worry and here is why Elliot Keebie Tom Tawio, Michael Woods and Luke Garbutt. All snatched from Leeds as they were highly rated by Barcelona, Chelsea and Everton as well as Leeds. Keebie last season got a 6 month contract at Barnsley and is having trials all over the place, Tawio is at Falkirk, Woods at Hartlepool and Garbutt is still at Everton at 24 having played just 5 times for them in 7 years. I applaud the club for its forward thinking and long term plans to get our great club back into the Premiership. But it is horses for courses and what we need to get us out of this division I'm afraid is some decent proven quality at this level and not to pin our hopes and put the pressure of expectation on young Tyler's shoulders.

Bloody good post Will. Nothing against Roberts, for his, and my, good I wish him all the best but I totally agree with you. The only proof of the pudding for our "ones for the future" policy is for them all to gel and start delivering now. Sometime in the future, Just give them time, is not good enough. Some of us are getting a bit long in the tooth and want to see Prem teams at Elland Road before it's too late.

Excellent post Will, totally agree mate. Absolutely nothing wrong with laying the foundations for the future, But like you say horses for course and we need proven players in this division to push us on. I would rather had done the business that we did rather than purchasing players the likes of Kebbe, Stewart, Wootton, Norris, Varney etc. Under 23's are now very bloated and the purchase of these players reflects a gamble based upon finding a gem through bringing in quantity rather than quality

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 11:19:54
agree alf, can't see much improvement on that, a lad whos played plenty in the champions league, for belgium, won a top division in belgium, and is still only 25. 5 highly rated players for 23's, 3 of which defenders and a prolific striker, and stevens who knows? we've signed a midfielder who just over a year ago pundits were saying deserves a chance at england level. and a striker who a premier league club were gutted about losing. Never happy some leeds fans. I think the back lash that the new players are receiving is fans refelection on poor form. they'll say well hows he going to turn us into a winning team. 1 player wont, but when we get past this suspension crisis, our team is going to get stronger and stronger again every week. Leeds will be ready for some big battles this weekend, the crowd will make it hostile for bamba and he'll probably cave, I want to see roofe, hernandez, alioski, and roberts combining well and linking together. Its not all doom and gloom gents

Agree1 Disagree0

Think we all get frustrated when results are poor and emotions take over . Some times if we can stand back a little and reflect, the picture is better than we perceive . We cannot keep changing personnel all the time, stability is key. Also any new manager has to work with the same squad . He may get a initial impact boost but how long would that last. The most important thing is to keep improving the quality in the squad, get our new players bedded in and use the summer window to bring in the extra quality required. The only questions for me is TC getting the best out of the players and why do we not seem able to put on some real rousing displays where we look to be really going after teams?

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Feb 2018 09:43:45
Largely agree with you PA. My biggest concern is that we have brought in a truck load of talent for the lower squads with the anticipation/expectation that they will be our future. yet, far from ripping through the opposition, they are struggling. Is this because the coaches are pants or are the additions duds or am I being too unrealistic/inpatient and need to give them time to gel. Not too easy to catch up with their matches over here. Can someone local help shed some light?

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Feb 2018 09:47:09
We get frustrated because we know that at our best we can compete with any team, except Wolves maybe. And we hoped that when we were sitting at the top of the league not that long ago that this might, just might, be THE season. But it clearly isn't to be. I think the main fault is with the players. As time goes on however TC fills me with less and less confidence. Probably nothing to lose by giving him the rest of the season. But a different recruitment strategy is what's needed to get us out of this league regardless of who the manager/coach is

Agree0 Disagree1

01 Feb 2018 12:27:48
There comes a time when a manager has to be a bit tough but I am worried that TC does not have it in his locker and the way he has managed so far shows a friendly but maybe slightly weak personae so much that the main players are not a little bit scared.

Thinking last night. Radz wanted monkey to stay when he should have sacked him Tc is still here when he should have been sacked already. Orta is still here when he should have been sacked already. Familiar pattern forming here. Does more money than sense and no balls explain the above. Anyway. When we have saiz and pennington or shaun back, i think we now have a balanced squad/team that with the right manager can challenge def playoffs. People keep saying we are 5-6 short. We can't keep chopping and changing players. We are 5-6 short of surviving in prem but not getting promoted. As for somebody saying villa have a great team? They were woeful against us. In fact, the whole division bar wolves is sub standard. TC OUT and i'm of the impression we can sneak in top 6! I can't keep saying it. Oh i did already!

Mitrovic, afobe, grabban, Elphik, zac clough, Jack colback, matt mills Cameron Carter vickers, Lee Tomlin all moved to champ clubs last few days on loan or free. that's some solid well established players there could make a big difference to is but no. Carter vickers perhaps a little unknown but he has had some solid games at spurs and I think would of been good CB cover as with Elphik or even matt mills. on a free would. of been brilliant.
