In my. humble opinion, it really is very simple, Marcelo Bielsa has never experienced the English style of football before us, in my humble opinion Marcelo's philosophy of having a tiny squad is a total oxymoron for the English style of football, whilst fundamentally the same football, football is multi faceted in it's approach, whilst bubs is far superior In his attack approach, his defensive is totally exposed in the free flowing style that is English approach football,

We cannot distract from his achievement of getting us up, but it really would be great for his pals to have a word and discuss the possibility on his merits on a small squad and it's total inadequacy in relation to get again ENGLISH FOOTBALL.

Not sure there is an oxymoron Chris Chris?

Totally agree that Bielsa’s philosophy is to carry a small squad but all premier teams register 25 each, which is why Ozil can’t play for Arsenal. So we have the same amount as everyone else we just don’t have the same calibre of player than those in the upper echelons of this league.

We did spend all we could afford in the close season but quite simply based on what we could afford.

We’ve made some fantastic additions in Rafhina and Rodrigo. But no team can cover against the best team in this league the loss of our two new full international centre backs.

Brother is a Spurs fan and was saying to him tonight judge us when we have our best 11 out from this 25 let alone what we may add in a notoriously difficult jan window.

But i’d still rather be a fan of this Leeds Team than my brothers turgid negative spurs team.

And yes that does include where we currently sit in relation to Spurs. It’s been called naive today but nobody called it naive at Villa away or Liverpool away.

I’m gutted tonight but i’m a realist and cannot wait to have four quality defenders behind that ambitious approach.

agree

saving someones life is no excuse to kill them

getting us up is no reason to get us relegated. he must learn. he must adapt and he must do it quickly. time for MB to prove is as good as many say and not as bad as I think he is.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:35:22
Some good points Chrid

If a coach ( foolishly) insists in having a small squad in ANY league, not just in the English leagues: then that coach better be a LUCKY coach with good luck in not having injuries to players.

In the 2018-19 season the injuries to Roofe and Bamford with no back up cost us a top 2 spot.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:51:07
Problem is glaringly obvious and has been for a while our defence is weak and we can't defend set pieces. Only our attacking style and possession has saved us for the last few seasons. Yes we may scrape bye and save ourselves for another season in the premiership, likely more than not. WE can't keep giving away easy goals with the hope we will score more because it won't happen. Manchester Utd far from being the great team they have been, won't be in the title shake up this season but we made them look world beaters. Think our style will win us some games but results like today are also likely. Bielsa in my opinion won't be at Leeds next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:16:32
He is in his 3rd season of English football so I don't believe that is the issue.
I simply believe his philosophy is simply play his plan A well enough that it doesn't matter if you let in 6 as you can score 7. Admiral? maybe, crazy? maybe, but either way we have no choice he will not change.
So to me if he will not change we need better players as I believe he generally is getting as much out of what he has available as possible.
We have yet to see Koch and Llorente play together, left back is our biggest weakness IMO and the one role I'd look to fill in Jan.
We create so many chances but don't convert (for example today Bamford should have scored at 2-0, a world class save denied Raphinha and Harrisons miss was very poor) .
So for me we need to stay up recruit better in summer and keep moving up the table each year.
It will be a fun ride!

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 23:08:52
Class 92, whilst glaringly obvious your point is fundamentally flawed, you use arse as a counter point, but whilst theoretically our squad numbers may be similar, our shared squad experience is polar opposite, we have a total rookie bench, that's irrefutable, bubs needs to set a huge part of his ethos aside and concede that a small inexpensive/ inexperienced squad cannot + will not thrive in this league,

And by thrive I mean the blades example, we need strength in depth to restablish Leeds utd in this league, no more the fools are we hopefully.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 23:10:56
Got to agree with class. We don't have the money or the time yet to have built a squad with strength in depth. Bielsa can keep going for me he has worked wonders with the tools he has and is doing very well so far this season. Man U are another good team with individual players that are worth as much as our whole squad. Be realistic.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Dec 2020 07:16:07
By the way, I certainly don't want Bielsa to leave, I just wish he would accept a bigger squad as we all know a threadbare squad is fine if no one gets injured / banned/ dip in form / etc

For. me staying up will keep me happy, as we try to restablish ourselves in the big time.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 19:17:42
Last time a Bielsa managed side conceded 6 in a league game was almost 29 years ago.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2020 20:52:12
Won't be the last time this season playing like we did today.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 22:07:16
to be fair without our keeper we could of conceeded 10 goals a good few times already this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:56:05
As I have said quite often - entertaining. I always think we can score but always can concede. We miss chances and give the ball away. Bielsa's style is good to watch but without quality additions there are going to be other days like this. If you have Bielsa that's the trade off. I want us to stay up this year- 15th to 17th is realistic as I have said. More quality recruited next season and move on. That's it.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2020 19:05:38
You caught us on a good day, 2 goals on he first 3 minutes is something of a freak.

Very entertaining game though, I think 8-6 would have been about right. I don’t think you need to worry about going down, there are quite a few teams who can’t hold a candle to you.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 19:30:15
hesslain I love your posts and respect what you say

but 100million spent, the players we have, the coach we have is 15th really the aim and is it good enough

said I think our squad is about 9th-12th best and apparently our manager is great so he should get best from the squad so in that thinking anything less than 8th is a fail

now I think our squad is 9th-12th but we have a flawed manager. anything below 11th is a fail and that for me comes down to the manager

if Chris Wilde can get shelf Utd 8th or wherever they finished last year with league 1 players and not spending money why can't belisa get us top half of table?

anything less ain't good enough.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:08:14
Ajh welcome, and you are right, like 2 boxers going pound for pound. Role on the 24th of April for round 2.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:12:45
Small squad, injuries, suspensions. and players losing form from time to time. That a major issue. I'd love them to finish mid table but look at who we had playing today.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:18:38
I know you like Wilder Berm but this season has proved he was lucky last year.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 22:09:04
you know what Canada you have a point I am miffed at this year. but he wasn't lucky just last year

they was 17th in league one. then championship. then premiership and stayed in top half with ease. that means he was lucky for at least three seasons. and he spent no money

so far belisa but your terms was lucky one season out of three for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 23:13:33
Give your head a shake Berm. The majority of our squad struggled to get top half of the championship before Bielsa let alone top 8 prem. Football just doesn't work that way.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 23:20:03
AJH That's quite a chivalrous and brave post from you. Hopefully you won't now suffer posting abuse from our regulars on an unprecedented scale.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Dec 2020 10:29:13
it did for shelf Utd Alf, he got league one players playing top half prem football and didn't spend our money, to be fair this year they have suffered but not spent our money and injuries have cost us

I also hate this talk of how bad we were before belisa arrived we nearly mad play offs under monk so wasn't that bad, yes we dipped because the manager before was useless not the players.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:54:49
Clever of Bielsa with the two half time subs.
Both did nothing and 1 booking away from a ban. At least they will both be available for the next game.

🇨🇦 Getting concerned by Klich's lackadaisical attitude and play. Not concerned about KP. KP has his limitations which were exposed today but worried by Klich.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:56:14
It's more than feasible that Klich has hit the wall a tad, as he has played in every game including internationals for 2 and a half seasons

Again comes back to the sheer folly of not having a bigger squad to rotate the team / squad.

Whatever the reason I sincerely hope that Klich can rediscover better form and attitude again starting with the next match.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:04:14
Agree bro . I’ve been one of Klichy’s biggest fans and defenders when some have unfairly criticised him this season . But what’s happened to him since Chelsea? It’s like he doesn’t give a damn anymore . On the game itself it was a carbon copy of the Leicester and Palace games . Sloppy in possession leaving the defence exposed to dangerous transitions . We tried way too many Hollywood passes and Rodrigo and Raph seemed to if anything trying too hard when keeping it simple would have done . Coops looks crocked and that leaves us three centre backs down against the Burnley giants ( Wood, Tarkowski, Mee scary ) . Can’t see us winning that one I’m afraid .

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 20:22:06
I agree, he is unfortunately the one I'd be looking to replace in the middle (De Paul or the like) he gives away a lot of stupid fouls, has lost his shooting boots and isn't creating like he was at championship level.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:50:40
We play to win and we will suffer similar poor results throughout the season.

Nothing will be achieved by knocking the team or Bielsa.

We need to continue supporting them to the very end.

20 Dec 2020 18:09:58
For anyone that wants us to change the way we play, I'm sorry but playing this way is why we're where we are. We don't have good enough players to beat the top sides but we will beat enough of the rest to be safe.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2020 18:28:58
Hope you are right about staying up, ; whilst we continue to leak in average 2 or more goals a game we will be making it very difficult to win games and need to score 3.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:32:06
Agree with every word Danum. We will have enough for the many ordinary sides in this league. 8 wins from 24 would give us safety.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:33:14
Agree- Going in to the season no realistic person expected us to compete with the top teams. We have competed with all of them in the 4 games we have had and got 2 draws. At times we make these teams look mediocre, but of course also look mediocre at times. So with a few additions, we can really push on. It is good to watch and we will still pick up the necessary points from other teams.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:34:22
Baz, WE WON'T GO DOWN!

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:36:13
It’s what I’ve said before, we don’t have the quality to perform this system successfully, it will come but gradually.
And no I still don’t think we will be relegated. Patience is required.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:39:23
sorry change the way we play

everyone loves us but no fun in getting spanked by four odd goals every other week. same mistakes no lessons learnt and too predictable

when you can not do the basics. it costs us. if you can't learn from mistakes. you will never move forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:40:15
Good post Danum. We're not going to change way we play. We just need upgrades in playing personnel.

20 Dec 2020 18:43:50
lets have a reality check as well, most on this site including myself where laughing at ollie. give him contract for life etc. yet today he took belisa to school, he like frank worked out how belisa plays (which is obvious) and then worked out how to take us apart.

if leeds fans love Ollie Man Utd fans must really love belisa.

sorry but I am so angry at the same old thing week in week out even the win against Newcastle was littered with the same mistakes just the game fell our way

I do love the football but I really can't have getting our A"""Sess handed to us every other week, letting in 3+ goals as standard is no way to enjoy football and sorry but we are better than this. we deserve better than this

if I felt there was a slight chance belisa might learn and adapt I would take the loss as a chance to grow but he won't so it is just another hiding and it really really hurts me

just got a text. chairty starts at home. no it don't it starts at kick off when you are playing leeds. I am not enjoying this at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:46:20
Agreed Danum!

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:52:48
Berm The issue today was KP couldn't handle the pace of his duties. Of no surprise. We were against classy opposition. Bielsa arguably ought to have predicted this and provided him with a helper. Would've meant sacrificing Rodrigo for say Shack and tell him to play deep. We adjusted at half time. Live and learn.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 19:26:35
Cmon Bermo your in the entertainment business and that’s what Leeds do. We haven’t got players to play big Sams way or the Bermo way.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 19:35:00
live and learn George is suggesting belisa is capable of change and learning. I don't think he is

and yes we will beat many ordinary teams. like West Ham?

I can take losing to teams like Utd and Chelsea but come on same way every week

I give you all this question. name a more charityable and weaker defence than ours this season. I honestly can not think of one. ever. maybe swindon of 25 years ago.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2020 18:07:59

Entertaining for the Man U fans and neutrals. not sure how many Leeds fans find it entertaining to concede lots of goals .

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 18:45:33
Shocking and embarrassing!
We weren’t at the races and they were, far too many sloppy passes, not enough conviction and second to every ball.
It frustrates me when we get tactically beaten by Oli, who has to be the worst Premiership manager and who hasn’t normally got a clue.
But saying that, if you have Martial, Rashford running at Cooper and Alioski, what do we expect! They simply aren’t good enough.
But, let’s be positive, we are still good enough to compete in this league, and hopefully, with a few additions in January, it will be a good 2021.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 17:38:14
January window a difficult window to recruit but Leeds really need to recruit in midfield and defence.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Dec 2020 18:35:46
Baz January not the time. Finding top 10 PL players available to loan or buy in January and with Bielsa's system of getting a player up to speed, it isn't going to happen. Will have to wait until the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 17:23:55
I cannot believe the negativity from some posters. We have 9 starters who played for us in the championship last year. If Man U win their games in hand they'll be second. We'll win more than enough games to stay up, then we'll move on and up with new better players over the coming seasons. What were you expecting, to win every game? 😵.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

so did shelf Utd and last year they held there own. granted not this year.

we spent 100 million I expect better

I don't expect to win every game. but I expect some pride and not to be undone by the same obvious things every time. as I said if I can see it, why can't belisa?

sort the set play defending. protect phillips against the quicker teams who counter attack with pace. at least try and address it belisa. he is 3rd best manager in the world. address the problem that i. a playwright and armchair fan can see.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 17:34:20
EXACTLY what some people expect Danum
Of course that is their right to criticise individuals.

Of course it’s not good enough and i’m sure the players manager know that, but that is why we now have Rafhina and Rodrigo in this team because we know we need better in this league plus two international centre halves who are unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances both injured at the same time.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 17:39:45
Well said danum, same response v chelsea, yes we are playing badly but against a good side, for me I didn't expect anything today, for me it's about 40 pts, 10 wins 10 draws, and today isn't a game I would look at and think we can get a point there, didn't expect a point v citeh, 3 v villa or 3 v everton, so I believe were ahead of wat I expected.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Dec 2020 17:53:15

messer good point but truth is who knows,

I would always have West Ham, wolves and the likes to smash us, proper organised teams playing old school football will always beat us

now Man Utd could go either way, they can attack but we can also counter attack which suits us

football this season has been amazing and unpredictable if we lost today 4-1 I would not be surprised. if we won today 4-1 I would not be surprised
