Very much off topic I know, but I can't help feeling a little sympathy for Hull City fans. After the New Year set of fixtures (round 26) , they were on 39 points, just 2 outside the playoffs. They must have started the full of hope, Having then sold their two best players, the Tigers have picked up just six points from the next 19 games! and are facing almost certain relegation, being three points from safety and playing Cardiff away on Wednesday.

Cluey Proof they were a one man team. JB could still end up at Leeds in years to come. Get the feeling we're about to be the fashionable go to club. We need to make the right moves in the window and ensure our PR hits the right note and no more Kikos to undermine that.

George JB would have been a great signing I think!
Seen him playing decent at West Ham in pretty much a struggling team! Maybe one day?

Yes it's sad to see. I can imagine how I would feel if Leeds' best 2 players were sold mid season and not replaced.

Just wanted to post a further shout-out to Bielsa and the team. I've been lucky enough to be a Leeds fan thru thru Revie era. and now at the beginning of the Bielsa era - and all points in between. Hats off to Radrizzani, Orta, Kinnear, Bielsa. et al. for adding some much needed cheer to 2020.

The past 16 years have been nothing short of torturous - I look forward with cautious optimism in a rebirth of sorts for this team.

Bielsa is a very unique individual - who is absolute class. His reputation and his character are unimpeachable and feel that we are on the cusp of an exciting future.

MOT - all the way to Europe!

What a couple of great managers to bookend your passion for Leeds! Bielsa is absolutely crucial imo and getting him tied down to a new 2 or 3 year deal should be the no.1 priority.

If our current income/ turnover is £50m and there will be an additional £100m in the premier league. Giving a total income of £150m next season.

There will also be additional costs, increased wages etc, Rads has said he does not want to spend big or as he put it, disrupt the squad with too many new additions.

All the talk elsewhere, of adding unknown left backs for £25m plus is rubbish.

How many players will we be able to get with a transfer kitty that maybe in the region of £30 to £40m?

Realistically we will need a minimum of 6 to 8 players, depending on how many of the current players MB decides are not in his plans.

Looking through the names in the U23's there are about half a dozen plus who could make the step up to the squad.

It is going to be very interesting to see who we bring in.

MB said yesterday we need to convert more of the numerous chances we create and this means adding quality strikers, wingers and creative midfielders. If we get this right we could become a very good team.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

20 Jul 2020 18:32:02
1970 We don't need 6 to 8 players. 4 or 5 all that's needed. 2 central defenders, 2 midfielders and a striker.

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 19:25:12
GIW if we loose White and move on 4 or 5 Beradi, Douglas, Foreshaw, Augustine, maybe Pablo . Then add in the 3 or 4 injuries MB always allows for, our squad would look very thin.
Just to have two decent options for every position we will need to recruit players.
In a perfect world maybe not but you hope for the best and plan for the worst.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 20:02:17
1970 I'm sure Berra will go and a couple of others but you're not allowing for the desired emergence of the young crop. Casey Hosannah Struick Kenneh Kamwa Stevens Bogusz McCalmont McCarron McKinstry. We must be loyal to them and give them a chance. Some will go out on loan but recruiting a minimum of 6 like you say shall be too disruptive.

This would be George's recruitment list for 2020.

White
Fry
Eze
Wilson
Woodrow

But I should stress not Woodrow Wilson. Lol 😆. There'll undoubtedly be others from abroad we'll be interested in. I think we should also be keeping our eye on Oxford (not the University town 😂) and David (not Craig 😆 but Jonathan) .

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Woodrow Wilson would be worth 14 points I reckon. Yeah I know, a history gag is probably a bit high brow for a football site but throwing it out there anyway.}

20 Jul 2020 20:22:34
GIW, think MB will want to manage how the young players are developed and bring them through gradually especially if how he used them this season is anything to go by. MB likes his senior players, who he trusts. He will know exactly what he needs and where the weaknesses in the squad are. We need a couple of strikers, wingers, midfielders and defenders, quality upfront and good solid professionals for midfield and defence. We will not get away with using out of position players as stop gaps at this higher level.

we all know rads is both skint and tight. he could of invested over last two winter windows and hasnt. one year cost us the next year didnt. we all know we have had outside investement which has not always shown and now rads has said he is looking for more investement

at the end f the day let's just enjoy where we are. we might need to invest we might not. even if we lose every game next year losing to liverpool and west ham is better than losing to wigan and hereford

I don't think we need that many players, i think we have a decent team and our style is suited to prem but as last few years has shown no one on this this site can tell (and even bleisa ain't really got a clue because he is as good as he is bad) so let's just love life at the moment and next year what will be will be

that all said. we need a left back, two centre backs (take the two from millwall) one crative midfeilder (take jed wallace best player in championship and perrea of west brom or beraghana from Brentofrd) and a forward (no idea) . Sell phillips and use money to invest as shacks and stuijk are far better and we will be fine

but if we ain't so be it. better to get relegated as leeds than stay up as any other team. MOT.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 20:46:00
And at least if we get relegated it will hopefully be with some. better players and more money so we can prepare to return.

Perrera is a west ham player on loan, they'll keep him next year.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 23:08:38
thanks richie i never realised that

so perrera is about as likely as ben white. we can rule them both out

and yes alf if we go down we will be in better shape and a day in the sun is better than no day at all. this said i think we will be comforatble next year.

Makes him a great business man in my opinion, didn’t spend on players but still got promoted, we have to remember he bought our ground back and is as we speak heavily investing in a new world class training facility.

The premiership starts very soon this time round

We will go in largely with what we have as there’s little time to bring in new players and blend them in or get them up to speed

Trust the process

We have u23s that have played this system for two years now

There’s cover.

We are going to surprise a few teams with how good we actually are.

Dog botherers planning to approach Carlos Corberan! Gues what direction they want to take after seeing our progress under Marcelo!? Would rather he went somewhere else to start his career as head coach, but would understand if was was interested. ☹️.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Jul 2020 14:45:21
It would be a shame if Carlos left but fully understandable if he wanted to be first team head coach elsewhere even at the dog botherers

I an confident that Leeds could find a suitable replacement for Carlos to lead the U23s and maybe that person would even be an improvement on Carlos.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 14:57:05
I think it's the perfect first appointment for Carlos. He won't have to move house

Further to that he will be able to ask Bielsa for a loan or two from out U23 pool, giving some of our younger talent much need exposure to the Championship. I think most of would like to know what Edmondson could do at that level. and there would be no moving if house for them either. And even better would be the fact they would already understand the systems that Carlis would want to put in to place.

Then, in 3 years time Bielsa, Champions League winning manager, can kick back and watch the battle honed Carlos take his team further on the journey.

Could benefit us, if he does well in a couple of years he could replace the great man.

Tie Marcelo down to a 3 year promise then let Carlos go but tell him only to sign a 3 year contract, get experience then in 1923 we will come a calling.

20 Jul 2020 15:56:32
Looks like it’s a done deal. Players seem aware and Radz talking publicly about him going in positive tones for Carlos. Will create some opportunities for the kids and perhaps in both directions.

He has done a great job for us and deserves to go with plaudits and support.

Could be a very astute appointment for Huddersfield and I hope they give him time.

If Berardi doesn’t get another Leeds contract, might not be a bad fighter to have alongside you.

Good luck Carlos, loved watching you coaching your team in the under 23s. Don’t forget us!

20 Jul 2020 20:41:22
agree well done and thanks if he goes. do laugh at the thought of him coming to us in three years. like he won't be sacked in the meantime. what the dog botherers have done to danny cowley who is a good manager is boarderline a joke and half way to unreasonable.

20 Jul 2020 21:40:11
Berm Bielsa cost Cowley his job. It's called jealousy and a wish to copy. Human emotions expressed in business. Bielsa basically added a couple of players to a team which finished 13th 2 years ago. He won the league and played breathtaking football simultaneously. Dog Botherers can't get the real thing so opting for next best thing.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 23:10:34
that might well be true alf.

think all this constant talk of how much belisa turned the club around is a dig at monk. we played good football under monk as was not a mile away from the play off. yes belisa has improved the team but i don't think it is a million miles away from what monk was building.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 23:45:41
Berm More like a million and one. Monk had no Plan B. He also benefited from a certain Chris Wood. Bielsa is the real deal. 🐒 ain't in his league.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2020 08:14:02
Monk did well, but as George said he actually had (imo) better players at his disposal. Wood, Jansson, Bartley, Green, a younger Pablo and even Roofe all added to the squad. I'm not convinced anyone that we added since has increased the overall quality other than White and even the squad that Monk had needed improvement to compete anywhere near the top - playoffs were about all we could expect from them and we didn't even get there. To actually win the league with the squad we have now is as close to a miracle as I can expect to see in my lifetime. Bielsa is simply a footballing god. What he has done is the equivalent to winning the F1 at Silverstone in a Ford Mustang.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Jul 2020 11:25:07
It's going to be a great year, hopefully with chances coming for some of the young guns. There are many who haven't been given a first team trial that are knocking on the door and I am sure Spanish will have his favourites but among the obvious ones what about, Edmondson (not a Bielsa favourite? ) Kun and McKinstry?
Everyone of the U23s will be sorely tested next year with their step up a division. Let's hope it highlights one or two that just cannot be ignored. The futur's bright the futures Mighty White.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

20 Jul 2020 20:45:17
seen a bit of u23s and edmondson is good player but never a belisa player in a million years (well suited to burnley or sheff utd but not belisa)

kun was highly rated but hasn't really done it at leeds and i doubt he will ever play for 1st 11.

bogtuz has shown real class and stevens shows promise but not sure about attitude

of course stuijk looks to of come good and shacks is a god but i think overall this team is showing as much promise as the side that had heart woodgate and smith in it. by the way smith was seen at TA and is due to sign very soon. source is the survior.

Agree0 Disagree0

21 Jul 2020 03:25:49
I was also struck by Struijk. once he got his legs under him, he looked a great understudy to KP and with more exposure as well as the hard work he seems prepared to put in . perhaps even better than that!

This is the magic of Bielsa. he brings players on as well as the team as a whole. I just wish Pablo had 2 more seasons in him for his sake as well as the side.

And if you were Ben . would ya want to be playing at Amex for their coach or bench warming at one of last years top 6 Prem clubs or working with Bielsa developing into world class.

Probably not his choice. or money will make the decision. but the right footballing thing to do is to stay with us. and live the dream. the money will follow.

M bloody well ecstatically O T.

What a wonderful weekend! Head finally recovering!

Just wanted to add to the posts about Pascal Struick. Those who'll remember my old under 23 posts will know I've been a fan for some time.

I think it says a lot that Aappo and Diaz went but Pascal was kept. Bielsa trusted him to through him on against Stoke and it was tough for the lad, heard he was really low after that match. He was also prepared to do the same in a key game against Barnsley when it wasn't going well.

Really pleased that he got a full game against Derby and showed some good touches. Loved to see KP going straight to him at half time, hugging him and talking to him as they went to the changing room. He is tall, good header at both ends of the pitch, and can pass. Also great lad who has got his head down and worked hard. He will learn and develop a lot under Bielsa and I think he could be a good bet for the bench if he has a good preseason. Can cover CB in back 4, 3 at the back and CM, so is a flexible addition.

I trust your Struijk thoughts. It's good to hear from you again Spanish. You know you are my "go to" guy for all things U23. Sunday made me feel a lot better for the future re Ben White. If we do lose him I would not panic with a Struijk/ Cooper back 2. Altho ideally I would like to see a White/ Struijk back 2 in a couple of years.

Thanks Leodis. Glad Bielsa, Radz and Orta have delivered and we can all unite behind them, at least for a bit!

One bonus for us during the lockdown and restart was that the under 23s didn’t have any games, so they could be involved in the first team training where appropriate. Remember Bielsa opted against friendlies because he said he had three teams in house to use. I think that has meant some of the under 23s will have had more attention from Bielsa and his team. He’ll know which ones could be at least part of the squad next year. Like to see Struick, Shackleton and Poveda getting another full game against Charlton.

Morning,
Really impressed with the b team yesterday, love a preseason and all our Hope's for signings, don't see too many coming in, don't see anyone leaving, with harrison confirmed as a loan signing that leaves us 1, personally Wilson from liverpool for me, can play behind striker, excellent dead ball.

Think we might dip into good championship players looking to step up, swift from reading is 1 for me, lolley from forest if there not promoted (they won't be) , if brentford don't go up Watkins, Reed from fulham
Wonder how much Southampton want for Adam's.
Going to through Jones into the hat as a CD (sorry) wages might be abit steep,
