One week ago i'd have Green and Varney ahead of Austin and Smith but after today not too sure? The new system seemed to suit Austin and Smith with the captain getting a lot more freedom to go forward although his passing still not the best! As for Smith is it possible he could be our new Lee Chapman? Not the greatest forward but a knack for getting goals and being a nuisance in the box! Really believe young Mowatt and Murphy could be the heartbeat of the team for many years to come. With some young and improving lads at the back and Byram who I think could play anywhere things can only get better under the guidance of BMD. Tell you what as well this division is still wide open with no great sides in it and that includes QPR. We can do it of that I am sure! MOT.

I was thinking the same lee chapman all over again.

Agree0 Disagree0

What match were you watching Austins passing was as good as anything this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. I think Smith is improving every game and his headed goal today was brilliant. Remember he came into the game late and hadn't even played much at Oldham. Young Mowatt reminds me a lot of Gary Speed and he will mature as will murphy. We had a lot of youngsters in today. Austin did well as well. However in fairness Birmingham were the worst team I've seen at ER this season so let's not get too carried away. JD

Agree0 Disagree0

You would have Green? Then you were not at Derby, should never be in a Leeds shirt again!

Agree0 Disagree0

Just because green had one bad game against derby doesn't mean he should never play for us again what a stupid thing to say

Agree0 Disagree0

Austin completed 99% of his passes and 2 were world class . his passing is class.

austin has a great long pass its just when it comes to passing the ball 5 or 6 yards usually .
austin was impressive in all aspects of his game .
what formation did we actually play? or how many different formations?

Well 2 weeks ago I said we just needed a creative midfield/winger player to supply the strikers

The comments were what strikers etc etc

Well today with the creativity from Byram, Mowatt and the midfield. the strikers got the service.

Smith and McCormack could work well together.

Great performance all round, I just hope its the same team for the next 20 games

MOT - Keep the Faith - let's see where we are in january

The combination of Smith and McCormack up front supported by Austin etc. looked the business.

I rate Brian Mac as our best manager since we dropped out of the PL, however I am puzzled why its taken him so long to give Smith a start up front with McCormack as they can both finish and compliment each others skills. Smith showed he could finish with head and feet in the friendly game at Farsley - so why he was behind Hunt and Varney is hard to fathom.

Hope Brian Mac sticks with the starting 11 we had today, and the 3, 5, 2 formation worked really well -keep it up!

Nice to see the Chief back at ER.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tbh we got a lucky break today, gift of a first goal and the second killed them off. Smith won't probably play that well all season.

Agree0 Disagree0

You picked up on Smiths finishing with his feet. Austin and mccormack missed there one-on-one's in front of goal, Smiths berried his top corner (the one that was offside). There work well cause you don't need to play a killer pass/flick on to Mccormack get anywhere near him and he'll do the rest. And for a CF Mc's chips/crosses are immense just what smith wants in return.

Confidence, confidence, confidence, that's what it's all about. This result today will hopefully push the lads on, instill a winning mentality.

On a high after that, best performance in such a long time! The ball was passed on the surface with purpose and precision, some fantastic raking cross-field balls out to the likes of McCormack, with some very accomplished finishing to match. Even more impressive was the work off the ball, the entire team working for the shirt and rightly so. Rodolph Austin immense again, flawless commitment and quality from the lad. Great to see the likes of Mowatt and Smith getting regular first team football and justifying their selection. McDermott is the man for the job as I've said from the start, just give him time. MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Diiferent team to the one I watched at Derby, when I posted I said it Smith plays we need to play to his strangths. Doh! and look what happens. Sorry all you Austin fans, ok he scored got up and down the pitch, but he never mean't the ball to Mcormack for that first goal, just a bit of luck and what about the horrendous miss from in front of goal. Austin is not good enough! and is not a leader. Murphy showed some lovely bits of skill, watch his little flick and dribble in the second half, also Mowatt was very good again. Warnock was great at left back. Much better performance. BMD just needs time to build. GFH not spending money we have not got, therefore building a solid base long term. We all need to grit our teeth and show a little patience.

first poster, what are you smoking, or did you mistake him for Micheal brown?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree mate. The first poster obviously knows nothing about football. Austin was awseome today. Lead by example. All over the park breaking up attacks and supporting the front line. Oh! and the ball to Mcormack was superb.

Agree0 Disagree0

The second poster, You've totally missed the value in Austin's performance, you highlight his miss but forgot about him charging players down all over the pitch, breaking up there play, clever fouls to slow down their attacks. And he got a goal, and he created other chances. Not sure what your expect from a leader but to put your body on the line and setting the tempo and desire for the rest is the way to do in my view. Oh and we played more of a wing back system with 3 at the back, I agree defensivly he is great but can also deliver good balls from the left so will be nice to see more of that in his game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Austin not good enough, are u high? he has been solid this season and has the most motm. On form he is second to none in this divsion. You need to start going to games and see for yourself because he a key player for us and could walk into any team when he plays like that. which he has done this season on more occasions than not.

Fantastic performance today from back t front. pearce was outstanding at the back and warnock too. byram right mid definately gave us pace and to me looks his best position. austin was the beast we all know and chased everything down took his header superbly aswell. mowatt defo an england international in a few years. looked like he played for a lot of years and has great vision. still unsure bowt murphy but will come good at sone point. rosco played his heart out and should have had a hattrick but always went into the channels to creat openings. and donkey smith as everyone calls him. caused problems all day and is gunna score a lot playing this system. mxcdeemott said he had worked on things and by god he wasbt wrong. we looked a proper team today and worked for each other. if we keep this up we will defo be challenge. Hopefully now team can begin to fear us more and the team can deliver more often. well done mcdermott and staff keep up the good work.

Very very proud leeds fan this afternoon and every other fan should remain optimistic. All those wanting mcdermott out take a look at ureselves. he needs time and believe me he will shine.

V good performance but let's not get carried away,
A better opposition would have put away a few 2 nd half.
But credit where it's due, a lot of creativity today and looked dangerous.
Just let's have a little run. shrew leeds

Could have been ten nil if we could put away the one on ones thought McCormack's movement was brilliant but felt could have done better in front of goal easy hatrick if he converted more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nothing more needs to be said my friend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Never no pleasing some fans we have just won 4.0 yet your moaning that we didn't do this and that we won end of what more do you want

Agree0 Disagree0

The good things about this formation are 1. it works 2. white and pelts can relieve warnock and byram when necessary 3. suits smith big time 4. dioufy can relieve ross when necessary 5. no-one likes playing against working wingbacks because it is hard to know how far up the pitch to defend

Alex Mowatt Leeds United's answer to Steven Gerrard - absolutely immense player

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We'd better start looking at his contract situation.

From what has been said in the press I believe they are!

I say try and extend mowatt contract for a further 3 years on top of the 18 month remaining already

Many on here said smith just a useless donkey. Well today that donkey is showing some lovely touches for a big lad. Scored too. And playing out if his skin.
give the lad all your support and encouragement in second half please

Today the so called Donkey as turned into a white Stallion. Great performance today. Let's keep it up.

Bang right mate. Everybody needs to get of the under performing players backs and support them irrespective. The lad smith was fantastic today, and showed he can be our next Chappy.

Credit to Brian for changing the formation, which worked fantastically.

Everyone deserves credit for that display tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

What a performance from every player on the pitch today. it was really pleasing to watch, Was nice to see Smith start the match and score twice. hopefully it will do his confidence the world of good, Anyway it was brilliant to see Leeds thrash somebody for once, Was even better that it was one of our bogey teams.Roll on next Saturday and bring on the dog botherers

Agree0 Disagree0

Smith was fantastic. Involved in all the goals. Tucked the second one away really cleverly. Smashed the (not so off side) one fantastically into the top corner.
Plus he gives us an easy outlet for pressured defensive clearances and makes sure the ball doesn't come straight back - won't a lot of clever frees by standing his ground and forcing defenders to push him over. He deserves auto selection in my mind for at least the next 5 games - he needs an extended run in the team.
To all the Rudy detractors - really?

This is outstanding football! Every single man on the pitch is playing fantastic but damn what an impact Sam byram has!

20 Oct 2013 15:28:48
Rudy was a man mountain today, all over the park!

Agree0 Disagree0

I know mate probably his best performance Iv seen I hate it when he has to defend constantly because he gives it away regularly but today he's had free reign an looked superb an absolute credit to leeds and looked so worthy of that armband.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

20 Oct 2013 15:31:04
Why don't you just support the lads? Rosco plays for the shirt and for the team, and the club, and was brilliant again today, as were the st of the team to the last man.

Gettin mighty sick of the haters. All will come good eventually. Stay positive!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hater? get sick of someone else pal I am a lover of the club that is why I want us back where we belong McCormack had several chances and hit the ball straight at the keeper each time, that is a fact not a pessimistic view

Just a mention for the legend that is Lucas Radebe today as he's in Leeds for his book signing. Too many players, in my opinion get the 'legend' label. Lucas, was probably the last legend at ER (in my humble opinion). You could see in his play that he loved Leeds and played every game as if his life depended on it. A true leader of men. Testament to the man that in his testamonial, which I was privileged to witness, the attendance was 40,000 when we were averaging 20k for league games!
It appears that he is donating the proceeds of his updated autobiography to charity. pure class Lucas!
