Regardless of who plays at the back we are consistently carved open, man utd happened to take their chances but watch almost any game and we are offer the opposition a host of chances. New guys need a run in the side to bed in free of injury - Cooper seems a great bloke but is not up to the job.

On top of that Berm is right in saying that KP is sadly lacking for pace.

I still believe top half is doable but we need to stiffen up.

I will be interested to see when we have a fully fit back four (I know its a wait) of Ayling, Llorente, Koch and Dallas (or new addition) how they fare.
I do think that Cooper is good cover but as much as I love Alioski don't think he is good enough (in fairness its not his natural position)

I think mid table is our level.

23 Dec 2020 17:21:04
I love Alioski but he is not a natural left back and he don’t fit our way of play

He will run and run he will get up and down and put in a shift but lacks the skill to to pescise enough to fit our way escpally at the back

Every time he loses the ball we are under pressure, why didn’t the gaffer spot and address this?

23 Dec 2020 17:21:36
We have always given away a heap of chances. Uts just in the champ we weren't punished that often due to the quality of the opposition but against top half Prem teams they will capitalise.

Injuries can seriously damage Leeds with the small squad

If Cooper is out injured who will Bielsa pick to play at CB?

I shudder to think that Bielsa plays Leif Davis at left sided CB against any team, not least against Burnley ; the guy is too small physically and in height

Llorente is training but I guess it might be too soon.

Struik would be my 1st choice. Good in the air has played reasonably well there before.

KP not convinced he can play CB and it would be a loss of him in CDM

Cresswell would be my second choice, he is is good in the air and on the deck. Yes he. has no EPL experience but could do well.

But Leif Davis god forbid he is only around 5 foot 5. He is simply too small to play CB!

22 Dec 2020 13:18:03
BV not sure why you persist with this small squad line? ALL EPL sides are permitted a squad size of 25 players (subject to the home grown rule)

Admittedly the ‘calibre’ of player may not match the established top five/ six clubs but we have the same amount to choose from as everyone else.

It’s probably fair to assume that it’s unusual to have four centre backs out injured at any one time.

That does not excuse us not recruiting a proper left back but I think a bad run of injuries and loss of puff and form of Klich and Phillips better explains our losses not squad size.

22 Dec 2020 13:18:41
I think if Llorente is anywhere near fit, they’ll play him against Burnley.

22 Dec 2020 13:43:35
Class yes 25 but quite a few are just making up the numbers U23 rookies

So we definitely have a SMALL squad in terms of calibre of players AND in players that Bielsa will actually trust to pick

of the 25 listed how many are U23 players that Bielsa will simply not select from to play let alone start in a first team probably at least 5 players.

Agree0 Disagree0

22 Dec 2020 14:42:45
Think Bielsa has shown time and time again he’s willing to utilise u23 players.

You can view the listed Leeds squad and as with all teams u23 are listed separately from the main 25.

I think most of us would agree centre back wise Bub was planning on as first choice and back up.

Cooper
Koch
Llorrente
Berradi
Struick

Ayling
Phillips
Davis
Casey

We only had a finite amount of money to spend and it’s also reasonable to assume in general that creators and goalscorers carry higher transfer fees.

Truth be told out of our first five choices for CB four are injured. And playing Struick is often dependant on an experienced partner.

Cannot understand supporters not cutting the Manager and the Team with a little more slack based upon injuries in this key area.

Probably explains why Bub will persevere with a cavalier approach hoping for Newcastle results as opposed to Man utd.

Let’s at least manage our expectations until we can at least chose 90% of recognised defenders.

Yes I think with such a thin squad we are susceptible with injuries. Teams like Liverpool have good youngsters ready to step up but sadly either our younger players are just not good enough to do a job. You'd ha e thought after 3 years of bringing in younger players to provide talent for the first team at least 1 or 2 would have made it by now but sadly it appears we ha e nobody capable or trustworthy enough. I think we need to give Pascal a go and allow him to start getting match experience. Can he be any worse than our other options at the moment?

Hopefully Llorente will be fit and selected to play against Burnley

Fingers crossed Koch and Berardi available by late February or beginning of March.

22 Dec 2020 15:43:05
Agree Alf, i’d put Struick and Casey in against Burnley they have an understanding from their time with the U23s and we’re better with Ayling at right back but them i’d play leif davis at left back too as playing so hung ho i’ think we would be stronger in the air and quicker to react. sadly that’s not Bubs way.

For what it's worth my choice would be Cresswell and Struijk with instructions to the LB and RB give them support and don't go charging upfield as much as usual.

23 Dec 2020 04:01:35
If Llorente is back in training he will be fit enough to start.
My starting back 4 would be:-
Dallas, Struik, Llorente, Ayling.
Burnley will mainly go after us from set plays so we need the height of Struik.
At the end of the day they don't have the quality up front to steamroller us like some teams have so we just need to push them back then try not to give away too many silly dead ball situations in our half.
Hopefully Cooper will be back quickly (never thought I'd be saying that) .

4 of our 7 defeats came from 4 of the top 5 in the league. Spose that's good in a way.
We were well beaten in most of them.
Think we threw away the points v palace and wolves. They are games we should have been smarter about and not played into the hands.
Thought ham were worthy winners too.

22 Dec 2020 08:44:58
I've looked at our results so far, and thought honestly what results we were expecting, and i expected us now to be on 14 pts, i feel we should of been lookin at at least a point v leics, wolves and palace, but didn't expect a point v citeh or 3 at blunts, ville or everton,
Next 2 massive, 4 points at least,
MOT.

22 Dec 2020 09:27:16
You didn’t expect to beat Everton villa or sheff? Really? Maybe Everton should have been tough but the rest.
I think we are about 4 points less than we should be.
But to be honest. Most are losing ones that they shouldn’t every now and then so harder to predict than usual.

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Dec 2020 10:40:06
Everton away, a team pushing for a top 6 place, and actually thought we would go there and win?, Ville at home yeah but away really, even blunts away would of been a good point,
Reality check, we are at best a mid table team who will lose more than we win, 13th at best, personally 17th is a result.

Agree3 Disagree0

22 Dec 2020 11:34:57
We are going to lose more than we win for sure but neither villa sheff or Everton should be beyond a win expectation. They will all be bottom 8 come end of the year.
We should be looking to beat the lesser teams. Good to get a point v city.
I know biesla won’t change and he has got us up and we play good football but a few minor tweaks depending on who we are playing is no big sacrifice. Just smart common sense. Ok if teams come at us but some dont. They sit back and counter. Rather than just play into their hands adjust a fraction.
We could have had a couple more points in my opinion.

PalAce and West Ham hurt me as was expecting we could do something against them and think we have better players

What worries me is not the losses but the manner of the defeats

Any team that sits back, can counter or good in the air will be confident of beating us. One style one way one plan is very easy to work out

11 v 11 we can give most a game plan against plan we are found wanting.

Bermo, Chris Wilde was very fortunate to get Sheffield Utd so far up the league last season, it was a freak of a season. They now sit where they belong in my estimation.
Traditionally most clubs that are promoted are relegated or survive by the skin of their teeth like Villa in their first season up. If you look at West Brom and Fulham, it will be very likely that they will be relegated. Even Villa and Fulham the last time they were promoted spent over a 100 Mil on players, yet that was not enough to get them up in the top half in the league on their first season up, in fact Fulham were relegated. The only team that comes to mind who managed this was Wolves who spent massive amounts on really good quality players and have a excellent coach.
In my mind, it’s only because of Bielsa that we will sit comfortably away from the relegation zone at the end of our first season up.
So why do you think Leeds should be looking at a top 10 position after only spending 100 Mil on their first season?

OP

You biting on the hooks of all those fickle guys.
Read back at the likes of Bermo, Aus etc. Whenever we get a poor result they could do better than Biel, Cooper et all. Whenever we get a good result they change their tune.

I have read many of your posts, I admire the consistency of your stance, whatever the situation at the time. Your considered and positive attitude is a good read and sets up us more positive guys for another good day at the office.
I can totally understand those guys who always see the dark clouds when we have a poor result, but just don't understand their need to rant about all and sundry before they have had the time to reflect on it.

I agree with you, regarding the transfers spent and their influence on the team's position.
£100m seems to be the step that needs to be taken to go from Championship to bottom end of the Premier League. As you have stated, this figure is often reached with very minimal reflection on the PL table. Why would we be different?

I, like a vast majority on here are happy with the squad improvements, the playing style, the entertainment value of my team. I didn't, and still don't, have unrealistic expectations for this season. I recognise it will be tough. We are playing against brilliant players week in and week out. But blimey am I enjoying each and every game get to watch. We are so entertaining. And after all, isn't football in the entertainment business these days?

Axe, Berm and others who perhaps comment more on the negative side of Leeds Utd today are very welcome to their opinions as much as we all are. In fact I prefer it as I wouldn’t have half as much to post on. 😉

Agree with above I can be a tad negative but are not fickle. I’m always negative.
I can not see any Leeds fan really enjoying the Manc game though.
It maybe end to end stuff but hard to enjoy being walloped and playing poorly. Even if the go to figure might be hundred mill for bottom of table. That maybe the case and I get the theory and thought.
But enjoy being thrashed not in my DNA.

Thanks for the understanding and support

Yeah I am very glass half empty (if lucky) but not fickle in fact problem with me is I’m too consistent with my post to the point of being annoying and obsessive

As for needing time to let it sink in again I don’t feel I need this when been saying it for three years. I was positive under monk I thought he did the best with the players he had even when we missed out on playoffs and that hurt

I just don’t think belisa is getting best out of players and getting best results possible

With regards to Wilde I agree shef Utd are sitting where they should be my point is form 17th in league one to 6th in prem is amazing on money spent

So the right manager with the right game plan can go 17th league one to 6th in Orem even if followed by relegation this year is quailty

So on that trail of thought belisa with better players and 100 mill spend should be aiming top half of table even if we go down next year

If belisa is good Wilde must be a god?

Aus, apologies for the 'fickle', you are true to your glass-half-empty approach and I shouldn't have questioned it.

And as a handshake around the world, if you are ever on these shores I will crank up the hottub to Antipodean heats, get the Fosters chilled, and the invite is there.

Merry Christmas and as that time of year and transfer window to open in early Jan, thoughts on if and who we should go for, either loan to buy or buy?
Will radz invest or wait till summer, feel we will be ok without and will survive but with some investment, could be top half.
I would sell if get offers for alioski, Roberts, costa and cassila, not good enough IMO.
Ideally bring in LB ( Rico Henry) , CB, maybe the Chelsea guy timori.
Then would like a creative MF and striker.
My recommendations would be for one or 2 of these, De Paul, Erickson, Ali, shaquiri and Origi.
