I kow it's a retrograde step but should the stewards start inspecting our membership cards again. They did before and we had a break from hooliganism. JD

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I think it's more a cultural / climate thing combined with the fact that a local derby, on a friday night = a days drinking with Saturday to sleep it off. Would be best to move similar fixtures.

Agree2 Disagree0

If you are not a member or a season ticket holder you should not have tickets to away games (in theory you can't buy them), so it would be a good idea for Leeds stewards to travel to away games and check tickets and member / season tickets of all fans! Having said that I heard that SWFC would not allow the Leeds stewards to attend?

Whoever purchased Mr Cawley's ticket should be identified and banned also!

What's really starting to get me about this whole thing is that it's happened countless of times in the past and barely made the papers. Wednesday fans 'attacking' Hill, Huddersfield fans 'attacking' Smith, Celtic fans 'attacking' Dida, Millwall fans 'attacking' Ankergren, I could go on. Is %95 of this complete over reaction to friday just becasue it's Leeds United?

Thats it with fans such as you its happened, but forget about it other fans have done this or that ,Leeds fans a majority are well behaved but dont try to defend trash like the fan who made the attack on the goalkeeper,Stand up for the good fans at leeds and attack fans like cawley who brings disgrace on the club.

Can I just say how upset I am about the actions of Luke Varney, after the game on fri every other leeds player went to thank the 5000 plus real fans for there support, when warnock indicated to Varneythat it was one fan and that he should go thank them he whispered something in warnocks ear then disappeared down the tunnel, who is he to judge us we pay the mans wages as far as I am concerned he showed a lack of respect and should never wear a leeds top again.

Believable5 Unbelievable12

Can u lip read? He may have been saying he's desperate for the bog or sumat.
He's not had a great start but give him time then judge him. If Neil rates him then I trust as he knows a hell of a lot more than any of us.
Lets move on from Friday and worry about the next match TOMORROW :-)

Dont know what Varney said to gaffer. But lets face this: situation friday night so special you could well argue players should NOT applaud the fans. Im proud of NW commanding them to do so. But I fully resepect Varney if he felt it was not right. No facit here mate - tolerance the issue!

He's probably still Weds at heart....Needs to start turning up for Leeds. On performance he's been NW weakest signing ...so far!

So last word on Friday night as far as I'm concerned. We have all accepted the stupidity of the so called 'fan' who assaulted Kirkland. We acknowledge some of the chants were vile (shame Wednesday don't, or Dave Jones), but this was sadly predictable. The game should never have been on a Friday night, the person who assaulted the Keeper had been drinking since 10am, the game a Yorkshire derby between two big clubs was always going to attract a large crowd and thus some persons. It should have been a lunch time kick off. The clubs, FA chose Sky money over common sense. South Yorkshire Police could have refused the game date, and should have. Leeds stewards were not allowed to the game as SWFC felt they could handle 5K fans (lol), this reduced people present who can recognise Leeds trouble makers, and those banned, which might have been handy. Finally South Yorkshire Police and the ground stewards should have, by the time of the Leeds equaliser and following the vile chants and objects being thrown have formed a loose link cordon in front of the away end, thus reducing the fans who could have spilled onto the pitch. Yes Leeds and Wednesday have to shoulder the blame, but the authorities chose greed over common sense in my opinion. I hope the FA has the will to consider there part in the debacle.

Believable22 Unbelievable1

You speak too much sense.

It's all Leeds' fault, you see - everything! 9/11, The Gunpowder Plot, Chernobyl, the Kennedy assassination - all Leeds!

It's hard being a Leeds fan and NOT be paranoid.

Funnely enough m8 there might be some truth in the gun powder plot...coming originaly from Otley,Farnley Hall just up the road. If football would of been around back then, surely they would of been LEEDS ON ON ON

Believable6 Unbelievable0

It's good to get back to the Football talk. In my opinion, we lack pace, there have been so many times where Diouf picks up the ball and you just wish a Max Gradel type player was running forward for him. Becchio is a handful, but he has no pace. I think we need a new tricky winger, a new striker with power and pace and a new centre half for cover.

Hopefully this lad hall can do a job for us out wide. i agree we lack pace out wide and hopefully he can be the answer.

The pace will come from Hall once Warnock thinks his fitness is there. He's not played for 2 months but i see the next maxy boy in this lad, with more tricks. Hope he gets half an hour against Charlton.

Glad he's been done, and nice to see what Bates has said, I'm sure if he comes to a Leeds game again and is noticed, the fans will turn him away! He wants Leeds to win, but he wants to make himself on the headlines and be a Pratt! We don't need that one person in our club, there is enough of us proud Leeds fanaround the world were Leeds United!!! Marching on Together.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

In terms of justice, the reaction has been good. This person committed this offence on the Friday night and by the Monday morning is in Prison for four months and banned from all football venues for five years, might allow him time to grow up a bit. Leeds released a statement immediately after the game condemning the violence, and from Chairman to Manager to fans we have by the majority been angered by this stupidity and dont want it at our great club. You haven't seen anything really from Sunderland yesterday after racism, throwing objects and vile chants, at least we have United in or condemnation and want to improve our club.

I am going to make a completely new thread up regarding this personic behaviour shown by a minority of fans.

Leeds United, we like any other club, have our own section of imbeciles that find it acceptable to revel in others misfortune.

But for Dave Jones, to tar us all with the same brush is ludacrous, offensive and touches close to slander;
I have NEVER been in trouble with the law, I work in an industry that assists in saving people's lives and performing life threatening brain surgery so am I a vile creature.. because I am an avid Leeds fan?

Whether we like it or not, Brutish thuggery is not going to disappear in this country during football matches, because the way the government is set up, people get something for nothing in this day and age, so they get physical, aggressive when they don't get things their own way.
That's not Leeds Utd's fault, that is Britains and the Government's doing.. for letting the country slip to the standard it is now, it is all over the country, I live in Birmingham and we have areas over here that we avoid due to the high chance of being mugged/attacked!.

And to the Nottingham Fan below that is saying how our entire fan base is the same in terms of vile behaviour, may I just remind you that Nottingham have the highest Gun Crime in the UK, so those in glass houses and all that.

We all are not lucky enough to sit in a prestigious managers job at a 2nd tier football club, and by all means I am not condoning the chanting that was undertaken by personic fans, (not to mention the Instanbul scenario which SheffWeds started, but of course they are not vile are they Dave?) but maybe they should take their massive pay check and think that it is part of the job to recieve insults thrown at you.. while once again I am not condoning, it will never stop. Just like my job involves people dying from time to time, I have to get on with it and think about the next patient (next fixture).. Hope some people can see where I am heading with this post.

I agree that there was one complete w**ker there but still 4999 Leeds fans who deserve recognition from the players for the great following they give. Varney is rubbish anyway get rid if he feels like that

Agree0 Disagree3

I have seen it and warnock clearly says luke, only one and then varney seems to go to walk towards the fans and warnock seems to put his arm in front of varney and stopping him from going to clap but then varney walks off shaking his head so not really sure what was going on there. i heard reports that the police advised warnock not to go over at half time and full time but not sure what was happening with varney.

Agree1 Disagree0

I was there and I can see why a player wouldn't have come across and clapped the support. I personally think none of them should have. Yes it was a minority of fas that ran on the pitch, charged down to the bottom corner trying to fight, ripping out chairs, singing peado songs, making light of Jimmy Savile... Most fans were there for the game and didn't turn into raging people at the word Istanbul but we are unfortunately part of the same group and will be thought of in a collective sense. I didn't sing those songs but I didnt stop people singing or make vocal my disgust which shames me somewhat. We need to show we do not condone some of the sick chants (we didn't respond with honour when they were directed back at us) we should sing about our great club not how much we despise other people who like Chelsea and Man U, who don't really give a toss about us. Replace the bitter, negative, and sometimes aggressive Leeds attitude with pride and honour and hopefully one day we wont be seen as something disgusting on the bottom of other teams shoes.

Every club has a small percentage of fans that are nutters. The problem with us is twofold.
Firstly, since we have such a large away following we get 20 or 25 rather than the 4 or 5 that most clubs get.
Secondly, due to our unwanted reputation, we also seem to attract some psycho s from around the country who attach themselves to us as they want to cause trouble. They re not proper fans, they just use us as a vehicle to cause problems with other nutters around the country.
So, what needs to be done?
The membership scheme makes it harder for these sorts of people to get tickets. But clearly these aren t being checked properly outside the ground. This needs to improve.
Banning these people from attending games also doesn t seem to be working very well. With all the camera s in stadiums, why are nt there people spotting potential trouble makers and arresting them? There was 77 minutes of the game to spot the loony who attacked Kirkland who was meant to be banned. Again, obviously this needs to improve. What can us real fans do? Us fans policing ourselves is one possibility that has been mentioned. Confronting a group of beered up thugs and asking them to tone it down a bit? Not sure I m up for this. I ve not got a death wish. We can ask a steward to do it. Again, not sure they d be keen for the same reason.
Singing and chanting are all part of what makes the atmosphere great and makes exciting matches. You lose this and you lose a lot of what makes English football great. Fans from different clubs always give each other a bit of stick. Mostly it s friendly banter and often humorous. There are lines that should nt be crossed. Racism, Hillsborough, Munich, Istanbul etc. Last Friday, things got out of hand. In the future, if I hear this sort of thing, I d ask all real fans to jeer, barrack and boo their own so-called fans who are singing or chanting this stuff. These bigots need to know that THEY are the minority. Staying silent and looking embarrassed isn t good enough from the rest of us. We ve got to take control of our fan base back from these persons who give all the rest of us a bad name.
Don't get me wrong. I love the passion and I love the banter as much as the next man. But it s time for us to stand up and draw a line in the sand. I love Leeds, and I m sick to death of us all getting tarnished with the same brush. I m sick to death of a small minority of people dragging our name through the gutter. What impression is this giving to the kids who are watching? These persons aren t proper fans. They don t care if we get docked points, if we get banned from watching games or if our new investors back out. They ll just move onto another team and continue causing havoc. Well, I for one am sick of you. Jog on and get out of our club.
One final point. Why was this derby game allowed to be played on a Friday? An expected crowd of nearly 30 thousand, 5 thousand away fans? A local rivalry when one teams manager is an ex blade and the other has some unpleasant false accusations in his past? Put this on a Friday night so that everyone has a chance to have a few beers first? Are you mad? This was always a recipe for disaster. Why wasn t this played on Saturday at midday? Things would have been much calmer. I m sure the coppers would have pointed this out. Is it because Sk$ wanted a tasty, feisty Friday night game with some strong viewing figures? Did both clubs take the lure of the money offered by s$y despite knowing that there may be some unpleasantness? Well it back fired didn't it? Not happy about this. Notice we re also scheduled to play the Udders on a Friday night.
So in summary, keep the passion, boo the people and keep fixtures on a Saturday. Sk$ can stuff their money. I d rather wait and watch us in the Premier League than on tv.
Glory, glory Leeds United..on on on....and on.
Jonny.
