Use our rumours form to send us leeds transfer rumours.

Right to all those people moaning about our defence it's not the back fours problem. The problem starts in midfield. Look at the glory days people like bremner giles, strachan, mcallister, batty these were the players that won us games. The only player that looks assured in midfield is clayton. He's good on the ball he can pick out passes has fantastic vision but is let down game after game by howson. He has been poor all season. He is always letting his man go he always pushes up to far in front of play and never tackles back. For me SG needs to drop him and play another solid midfielder like vayrynen. Thus would enable us to protect the back four and stop us being exposed. As for going forward becchio is not the answer. The lad is good in the box with his head but that's it. He can't hold it up. He can't take anyone on he gives daft free kicks away and honestly looks over weight. I would play forssell up front and have becchio on the bench to come on and do some damage from a set piece. Also I think we need a captain that inspires us howson is too quiet to young and not a leader. Give it paddy. 110% every game so far.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Paddys been off form aswell i think, keep the armband with howson, every player has a rough patch

Agree3 Disagree3

I was with you until last sentence sad to say for all his heart Paddy is not up to Championship

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree with some of what your saying. Paddy and O'Dea are always half a yard off the pace if the balls played long or along the floor quickly (palace and Bristol city) the penalty was a clumsy challenge, but had paddy or O'Dea had pace they could have both closed the lad down.
We haven't see this Finnish lad play yet so we can't go saying he is the answer. I agree about howson, I just can't put my finger on his inconsistency in midfield, he looks like a lost boy out there sometimes and you can go 60 mins without seeing him or shouting his name!!
Becchio does more than his fair share of holding up the ball. He isn't technically gifted, but he wins headers, challenges and can hold up the ball, plus his goal return speaks for it's self. If it was me I would play 3 up front. Mcormack on the left wing attack and becchio right up front with forssell feeding off him and Mcormack running at defenders.
If you ask me there is alot more going on behind the scenes that's affecting confidence

Agree1 Disagree1

Original post is spot on - why can't Grayson see with all his years in football all games are won and lost in midfield and Howson is not good enough for our great club. A new Manager would build a team around Clayton - we need a change quickly.

Agree2 Disagree0

I disagree with the above, how can you build a team around an individual? As the old saying goes, there is no 'I' in team!! Clayton has been an inspiration so far this season and he is definitely a future captain of our club...Howson and Snodgrass need time to give their heads a shake and sort out whatever issues they have...our squad will grow with confidence throughout the season and we will deifinitely be pushing for the playoffs once again!! {Ed045's Note - your right, there is no I or U in team.. but there is in UNIT that's what we need to be..

Agree0 Disagree2

I agree Snodgrass needs his attitude sorting - with Howson unfortunately it's a lack of ability - he looks like a little boy chasing the big boys around the park- puts his hands on his hips and has a rest then chases them some more!

We cant really blame the club for Beckfords departure. He wanted to play at the top level and there was no amount of money that could have saved him from leaving........

Bradley Johnson, well i used to pull my hair out sometimes with him, but football is a team game and i never felt that he really had much support around him. The fact he is now playing Premiership football and doing quite well says to me we should have done more to keep hold of him. He was young and i think he would have played better this season next to Clayton.

Kilkenny? Well he did what all charged up ex players do and played out his skin to prove a point. He had a right to speak out, whether it was the truth we will never know, however we all know Bates and what verbal diarrhea he is capable of.

Certainly should have done more to secure Gradels signature, for all his bad points he managed to turn himself around after the final league one home game, showing his real fight for Leeds and us fans. Early on pre-season when he spoke of his love for Leeds we should have snapped his contract up. Would have shown ambition and the fact we mean business this season.

i wouldn't be bothered who we signed, sold or kept hold of as long as the problems that have be inherent in our side had been sorted, which they quite frankly haven't.

I was expecting big things pre-season after last year, disappointed we didn't make the play-offs, but we did better than expected and it was in our hands to go on from that.

I think there is gross mis-management at our club at board level. There is a constant lack of ambition and the short contracts and letting key players contracts run down is creating disharmony in the players. If the idea was for us to get to the premier league then surely the intent would have been shown. I havent seen any intent from Bates or Grayson.

I am a season ticket holder and will be for some time, but its so frustrating to see how our club is becoming a laughing stock.

Truly hope things turn around, but there is too much inconsistency. After the palace game when bristol came we scored and i said to the lad next to me, sarcastically, how many minutes before they equalise! low and behold they did!

Believable5 Unbelievable1

I agree with you but ref Beckford.... MMmmm yes playing at the top level lol where is he now ... he's a greedy so and so
Gj

Agree1 Disagree1

I wrote the message below this about Johnson going and getting Pugh.
This message you have written totally sums up what I imagine most fans thoughts are. Developing facilities is good and if we can regenerate wealth for the team structure then this is good direction, however as you point out so well, player contract situations and money available for transfers seem pitiful even for a small league 1 club.

I don't mean to be negative but I am just giving out some food for thought.
So we let a player go who is deemed not good enough, and he goes straight into a premiership first team- and scores.
We then sign a player from the prem who can't make a 25 man squad and is hardly been a regular- probably on more money than Johnson wanted.
I know a utility man is always useful however they
rarely shine.
Could this be a backward step?
Johnson was infuriating at times but he did give 100% and was getting better and better as last season went on

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Yes you are being negative. Boring.

Agree4 Disagree5

Well, you are being boring. Negative.

Parnaby must be worth a dabble, come on SG, he must be better than crap connolly. Lets breed Tom Lees into the central role and get Parnaby for nowt before someone else does.

Why doesn't everyone stop moaning about our great club we are a different side from last year...look at the positives though mcormack is amazing lonners is amazing keogh anint bad but has only played like two or three matches for us... we will gel and het better and confidence is a big factor so instead f moaning bout the Manc scum.....( we did better than arsenal an bolton) lest get behind our team...m o t with pride....

Believable8 Unbelievable3

More Rose tinted tripe......yea a weaker side than last year and if you had actually been for the past ten seasons you would see how we are weaker....

Agree5 Disagree7

Past ten seasons? Lol for 3 of them In league 1 and the rest almost all a downward spiral....I love this club always have so instead of bitching I'm supporting....we will get better......we just news to settle......

Agree4 Disagree3

"Rose tinted tripe"? Sorry mate it's you talking rubbish. Other than losing Gradel we're not missing any of the players who left. Did you go last season? Remember the Preston game, lost 4-6 from 4-1 up? We won't do anything that daft this season.

In conclusion, stop slagging anyone who feels positive about the team, stop moaning and get behind your club. {Ed025's Note - well said..

Agree9 Disagree3

Thank you Ed025. You'd think we were 10 points adrift at the bottom of the league reading some of the stuff. {Ed025's Note - your welcome mate...leeds are a great club, with great history...they are in transition at the moment, and are paying the price for poor leadership of a few years ago....but they will rise to the surface...the cream usually does..and i expect to see them in the prem within the next three years..

Agree4 Disagree1

Premiership in 3 years maybe but not with Grayson as Manager.

Agree3 Disagree5

We wont stop moaning until we are back where belong and we seem further away from that goal than we were last season. Our squad is not as strong as last season without Gradel and as for our defence; will we ever see a clean sheet ever again?

Agree1 Disagree3

Premiership in 3 years?? cant see it.....whats the word the spanish use for tomorrow? That's what it feels like when people say premier league.

In the words of Del Trotter......"This time next year Leeds fans we will be premier league!"

Agree0 Disagree3

Won't stop moaning? Some people (not pointing fingers) will always moan regardless and find something wrong. Yes we're frustrated, annoyed, angry or whatever but the fact is that Bates OWNS the club and therefore isn't going anywhere regardless of what we think of him.

We really need to focus our energy on backing the team and intimidating the other team whether home or away - we all know how noisy we can be so let's look at what positives we do have and channel our efforts into MARCHING ON TOGETHER win lose or draw

Agree3 Disagree0

More pathetic slagging off from SG, were you complaining when he got us out of league one, something wisey or gary mac (him being a leeds legend) couldnt, could you think of any unemployed manager who would do any better that would actually manage leeds with bates policy, dont think so

Agree1 Disagree0

I couldn't agree more......at least there are some real fans out there......everyone keeps sayin the prem is where we belong but is we didn't go through this stage of fighting in a tough league we don't get there.....we are a young side, in probably the hardest league to get out of and we been here just one season......these things don't happen over night and we should all be grateful we are in the leagues at all after what ridsdale and co did to us.....bates may have been a bit of a dodgy dealer but we are getting back to "where we belong" and I'm 100% positive he will get us there, but if all the "fans" can do is moan bout him and Larry then what's the point of supporting this once great , currently great and most defiantly great in the future....come on guys get behind our team....we will iron out them creases but it will take a little bit of time be patient and get behind the mighty Leeds cos that's what makes them mighty......us the fans. Leeds till I die mot. who's with me? {Ed045's Note - i am.

Agree1 Disagree0

To be honest we hardly set league one alight. More got promoted out of default. If we had won it then yea, but to be honest we struggled second half of season like most under graysons rule

Agree1 Disagree2

You don't get promotion by default mate. Daftest thing I ever heard!

Danny Pugh signed........

Maybe next we will see the return of Tony Yeboah, Chris Fairclough, Tony Dorigo and The Chief!!

Blackwell for next manager! Oh we already had him! Ha

I'm sorry but I think the manager needs to go. Our defence hasn't been sorted out yet. Anyone agree with me?

Believable8 Unbelievable8

Yes,its now 2 years weve struggled with our defence and although SG has acknowledged it is a problem area, still nothing is done about it,the spine of the team is nowhere near strong enough,if we cant afford quality signings at least get a defensive coach in to work with what we have or its another season in this league again next year.

Agree2 Disagree1

At last people are starting to wake up.

Agree1 Disagree1

Been our best manager since o'leary if you ask me

Leeds at the moment is looking like it did at the end of blackwells leaderships. An we know how that ended.

Believable5 Unbelievable8

Nonsense! For all the stick SG has been taking this season from many doylems on here, he is, always has been and always will be a far better manager than the clueless Blamewell.

-------Lonergan--------
------------------------
Lees O'Dea Kisnorbo Pugh
---Clayton---Vayrynen--
--------Howson---------
Snodgrass----McCormack
--------Becchio---------

Subs: Rachubka, White, Brown, Sam, Forssell

Top-six team. capable of an automatic spot with a new Right Back, allowing Lees to move to his natural position.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Sorry but Kisnorbo's has not returned as the player he used to be..

Agree3 Disagree1

Wouldn't be a bad side if Odear,Kisnorbo,Snodgrass and Howson were playing well

Agree2 Disagree2

Like that team but dont see why white should be dropped for pugh, white has been one of our best players recently (although I admit that aint saying much!)

Agree1 Disagree1

For tommorow would go along the lines of
Lonegran
Connolly Lees O'Dea Pugh
Sam Clayton Vayrynen White
McCormak Forsell
Subs: Rachubka, Howson, Becchio, Keogh, Bruce
Would give Snoddy break as his form does not really warrant a place at moment and maybe a rest will do him good

Agree5 Disagree1

Pugh should play wide left - he's not that good defensively but can score goals and works very hard. Aidy White deserves to be our first choice left-back for the forseeable future.

Agree4 Disagree1

OP. White can always come in for Snoddy til his form improves. i'm still confident in our team.

Agree2 Disagree0

Why oh why do people keep putting o,dear in their teams ,simon keeps saying he won,t sign players unless they are as good if not better than we already have but o,dear o,dear o,dear i didn,t think bruce etc were that bad

Agree1 Disagree0

Simply there is no one else. O'dea is the best option atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think White and Pughy down the left hand side could be a really good combination

Agree4 Disagree0

Hello, you have o dear paddy Lees and Howson in the side. Howson is a bench player or if we play five in midfield. Lees is not the answer certainly not yet anyway and Paddy is not the player he was, 18 months and a nasty injury have put pay to that. As for O dea well... I am a republic fan and was gutted when we signed him he is alwasy probne to making a mistake or three.

Pughs arrived, when are Barney McGrew,Cuthbert,Dibble, and Grub arriving.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

What about is twin for right back then we have them all

Agree2 Disagree0

Pugh's only back because he kept his old kit, so one less stumbling block for Ken! The others would have cost too much to pay wages and supply new shirts

Agree3 Disagree1

Drop Howson and Snoddy, they get in week after week choose how crap they play,Howson is going backwards, needs a break,

Agree2 Disagree0

Howson needs a PERMANENT break from our Club

Agree0 Disagree1

Id rather have them than o dea paddy lees white and howson. You could throw snoddy in that bunch too teh way he has been playing. Looks like a man who had a move lined up but it fell through?

What will Danny Pugh bring to the team? I know he played for us years ago and don't realy remember him been anything special, i might be wrong, just along time ago.

Anyone else think we should only be bringing in defenders? I do, question is: who??? We are screwed, this defence is shocking, no pace, poor movment, i've been watching closely this season at the movment of picking players up in the oppositions build up play in he our final quarter and there are gaps everywhere, iv'e played enough football myself, played for best part of 20 years regularly and something doesn't sit right somewhere as these guys are making school boy errors all the time, i know White has pace, he looks decent but certainly can't be realied on when the rest are doing such a poor job.

Anyway, what will Pugh bring to help sort this major problem out? Anyone know?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Might see Snodgrass given a rest to sort his head out.

Agree3 Disagree0

Stop being negative and back the player, goie him half a chance at least. He definately strenghens the squad if nothing else.

Before Tuesday nights game I would have taken a 3 - 0 loss, better than most of the Prem clubs that have played them this year! That said, we were just not good enough to handle the movement of the Prem League leaders. Somthing for the coaching staff to work on.
We should all be looking forwards and trust that the team had a reality check and understand they have to work hard to be the best and don't become complacent.
I'm pretty sure no one goes out to do a bad job, yo and me included, so lets get behind the team, build their confidence and that will deliver the extra 20% we need to challenge. They are a good bunch on their day, it's up to the coaching staff to bring it all together and play for each other and the fans

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Agree 100% mate.

Agree2 Disagree0

I have agree as'well we've hit rockbottom and the only way is up for this club ppl dont realize even myself took time that were not the team we once were but were rebuilding and these things take time we have a great time given a chance to play defence isn't great but like anything can be change and rectified with right players coming in and going out 1 or 2 good loanee's should set us up for a battle for play-offs at least just gotta out score opponents until such time mad as it seems lol! mot! ps couldnt care less bout man u result bring on brighton!

with a very stressful job lufc was my great release,my passion.what has happened to us.its not exciting anymore been a massive fan.lets be honest even with those 2 wins we wernt great and both palace and bristol could argue they were unlucky not to take a point.my problem really is the complete tosh coming out about players.why are players left to get to last year of contracts, terrible business wise.why do we as hard earning paying diehard fans have to put up with watching odea and finns that nobody wanted.with a midfielder, brown who thinks he earns points for each man he kcks.then we have this with pugh.yes he will prob sign and yes better quality but theres a stall somewhere with him signing, just do it for god sake.we then let the wrong man go in gradel instead of snodgrass.look ill support you ever more but dont expect my hard earned money all the time if you cant give me anything back.all i ask to for you to invest in 3 bits of quality in defence manly to give us half a chance.with this present squad i would happily put my mortgage on getting nowhere near play offs.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Stop your whining and get on with it.

Anyone know if we will get a new defence coach?
Who is our present one? Is Snodin specialist at anything?
Think about it- we have a totally new back five from last season(kiss didn't play) and if anything it's worse apart from the excellent new man between the sticks!
We can moan about money but I think it's more the organisation with the defence and the link of the supporting(what?) midfield.
We are all disappointed but we must try and support the team and not round on individuals- lack of confidence nearly cost us promotion 2 years ago and cost us last years playoffs.
