With Bielsa now able to name 9 substitutes
( ha the days of naming just 1 sub in the 60s and 70s seem a long time ago now ๐Ÿ˜ƒ) ,

I would love to see either Geldhert or Greenwood ( or both) on the bench against Burniey.

Bielsa did seem to indicate recently that they are both very much in his thoughts for first team selection.

Here's hoping he does!

Greenwood seems to be the next u23 to get a run at the first team from what's been said. Wouldn't be surprised if he spearheads our fa cup run first rather than getting much league playtime though unless Roberts gets an injury or goes in Jan (whether on loan or perm) .

Having heard Phil Hay and others saying the word is we will not be buying in January I fully understand and accept the reasoning however I do feel that a quality loan is required and should be looked at to cover the CB injury problem. Unfortunately teams will not want to loan a player who will not get a kick as soon as our first choice pair are ready (sometime end February, I believe) . So the force majeure may be a pairing from Cresswell/ Casey/ Struijk all of which look competent in the U23s but are an unknown factor in the Prem. Still, there's only one way to find out for me it's a no brainer as the alternative is a cobbled together, played out of position back line.

See the biesla way.
They may not be ready for prem but we are not digging up trees are we so will one game hurt.

My take on recent events.
We have a makeshift defence with players playing all sorts of different positions. Bielsaโ€™s system is lovely when executed to perfection which in fairness happened a lot last year and it was a joy to watch. But Iโ€™m convinced it takes a season to do the moves instinctively. Koch. Lorente. Raphina. Rodrigo. Will still be on a learning process which is not being helped by injuries. Even Ayling at centre back is a little different in positioning for him. Iโ€™m pretty confident that we can comfortably stay up and improve this season.
Midfielders are perhaps a little off form at the moment and that showed against man utd.
They just stole the ball and launched an assault straight at our back line with pace. I quite enjoyed the game and was not embarrassed by our performance considering the above.
I am, always have, and always will support the best team in the world with the best supporters.
Iโ€™m just enjoying being premier league where we truly belong.

I am not a fan of player recruitment in January unless there is areal chance of relegation or winning something. We, hopefully, shouldn't be in a relegation struggle and we are not top six material. However, if either one was the case, I believe it would be a defender or midfielder we should be looking for not a winger. I would think midfielder first of all. Although non of our centre backs are dominant in the air and we are suspect at set pieces most of our problems start by us giving the ball away in midfield and not quick or 'savvy' enough to prevent the back 3/ 4 being put under too much pressure. These counter attacks often lead to goals or at least corners which in turn often lead to goals. If we sorted the sloppiness in midfield less pressure would be placed on the back four there would be less goals conceded and possibly more goals going the other way. None of our current centre backs can dominate like jansson did and Cooper even managed to undermine Jansson's presence at times. We need need a player with Jannson's dominance and experience but with other attributes that I hope Koch and Llorente will show. After that, Yes improve the squad in other areas but the problems we have now are there for all to see.

Agree Hess. Thatโ€™s all we are short.
We give ball away way way too many ch and cause problems for ourselves.

23 Dec 2020 12:30:22
Agree Hess, we need a Billy Bremner clone. Can attack with skill getting a goal yet in a split second be tackling back preventing a goal. Unfortunately that species is rare and expensive. Like Don, Victor maybe has to find a young lad with all the right attributes.

Koch is 6ft 3

Cooper is 6ft 2

Lorentz is 6ft 1.5

Struick I 6ft 3

Casey 6ft 2

Cresswell 6ft 1.5

Why do we need to buy more centre backs?
I understand a loan until our regulars are back but buying anyone now is just creating competition for Casey and Cresswell.

Agreed Axe. Tomori seems to be ideal. It will allow us, not to rush any of our injured back too early. Plus he has experience and is well thought of.

All of those are pretty short by todays standards in relation to PL footballers.

Size isn't everything. There's a lad in the school nearby who's 6 foot 6. Apparently he's not that great at football. There's a lot of players in the non league who are just as tall - doesn't mean they're great.

23 Dec 2020 20:24:16
Yet Berardi is the best header of the ball that we have!
Sadly even injured its probably true.

23 Dec 2020 23:12:42
Hess, when trying to head a football size has an awful lot to do with it.

As you yourself said the 6ft 6in lad was crap at football . so not sure why you mention him in a football debate

The above named players are all good at football so totally different kettle of fish.

I think we spent wisely on the four foreign additions but we have just been a tad unlucky with injuries.
I question at what age some of the youngsters are ready to step up as there is def a big diff between u23 and prem. I like shacks and he is worth his starts but he looks average against prem but was awesome last year. Same with struik. We have only 4-5 prem quality players. With injuries and kp and klich and costa losing form that leaves us well short.
It just makes no sense at all to go gung ho against top teams. They will hurt us every time.
And finally. Bit of guess work but
Liv city spurs man Utd chelsea Leicester Southampton prob Wolfe's and likely arsenal if they sack manager will be the top end. Any of the rest can finish anywhere I reckon. Although sheff utd are proudly gripping that bottom spot and good on them I say.

So Ausman, I'll ask again u want a wager, you said Everton bottom 8, today I see your putting Arsenal and Wolves in top 9 ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Dec 2020 07:42:16
Explain your reason?
Do you think table will finish how it is today.?
Teams move up and down. I happen to think if arsenal sack their manager they will move up and I think Everton are punching above their weight and will slip slide away.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Dec 2020 08:20:18
Punching above there weight, Ancelotti as Manager (class) , 2 good keepers (1 may be a tadge erratic) , solid defence, solid mid, Rodriguez, Richarilson, o and a quality goal scoring striker whose bang inform,
So you said bottom 8 and you expected 3pts at Goodison, so how much u willing to bet, because Everton will not bo bottom 8.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Dec 2020 09:21:23
Ancelotti never been sacked before cause of poor results?
Rodriguez has failed everywhere thatโ€™s why he is at Everton. Couple bit of class passes and goals a season and his done. Striker is good mind but striker does not make a team. Betting is for fools. Ask Bernie bum. Time will tell.

23 Dec 2020 10:38:23
So your not confident in your prediction then ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Rodriguez was at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, never failed but massive clubs, with a big reputation.
Because a manager is sacked it makes him a bad coach does it,
, keep reversing mate.

Richie I can see where Aus is coming from.
Everton are a club who possibly have a worse big club mentality than ourselves!
They will definitely fall away. Top 8 should be about right.
They look a solid mid table to me. Overachieving.

23 Dec 2020 17:18:51
Is ancitlloti class?

This season he is the only manager to play into Leeds hands fully

He didnโ€™t hurt us like we can be hurt and allowed kp to play which is deadly if you let kp play he will rip you apart and get motm where as if you put it on him he will cost us goals

If happily play a team managed by anctilooti every week.

I didnโ€™t know that Canada. Impressive. But I donโ€™t think he has won the World Cup has he? Canโ€™t be that good then ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
I like ancelotti tbh.
Just dislike Everton. Over the years they have been the most boring football team Iโ€™ve ever watched. In fact I stopped watching them cause they were sooooooo boring.
So I will never predict top half.

He won a lot but football changes pep won a lot and I donโ€™t rate him at all tbh

Judging on this season acitlotti the worst manager we come across only one who allowed us to play and not tried to focus on our obvious weaknesses.
