the guy who interviews bates every wk on yorkshire radio is either useless or gets his questions given to him by bates himself,he never pushes him on anything,Ken lets it slip in todays interview that we had been offered beckford back, and the guy doing the interview never asked him if we were interested,at what price or if it was a loan deal...unbelievable...just went straight onto the next 'lined up' question!

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Because he is not there to ask searching questions. he agrees with everything 'mr chairman' says

Why is wiki saying that Alan smith has signed for Leeds and will play against Birmingham ed? Mot {Ed013's Note - Anyone can edit Wiki so don't take that as set in stone}

Believable0 Unbelievable3

25 Jan 2012 21:46:03
been told matty pattison aint that good even though he scored against celtic in the reserve game. Cairns is going to barrow on loan and bromby may be on the way to hull city. bruce move to Galaxy looking very likely aswell. source. trainee physio at leeds not taking the p**s or anything very true.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Heard anything about anyone coming to Leeds? Would help!

Nope he said as far anyone coming in there's nothing

Smith a Leeds player according to Wikipedia !

Believable2 Unbelievable3

For some reason it says that he is signing on the 29th January! It would make sense for Bates and Grayson to get him as he would calm a few fans after the sale of Howson. But I can't see it happening, it would have happened last summer if it ever was going to! {Ed013's Note - Anyone can edit wiki so I imagine that it is someone having a laugh}

Agree1 Disagree1

Says he has shirt no 14 (now who's was that). And will make his debut v Birmingham.

Agree1 Disagree2

Haha ed! or Alan Smith himself - wishful thinking

can anyone tell me the only reason howson wanted to go was because he wants to play prem football does that mean hes on the same wages as he was on at leeds dont think so do you

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Saw Howson's interview on LUTV and he looked devastated to be leaving Leeds, in fact shell-shocked. He also said that he wanted to play Premier league football as well and that Leeds couldn't guarantee him this. Asked if he would ever want to come back to Leeds like others had done and he said at this moment in time definately.

Agree0 Disagree2

He could have signed a new contract it was up 2 him end of subject he is history now......onwards n up wards

The club shop have been told today to ensure that they have a number 6 in stock so they can print a shirt next Tuesday

Believable3 Unbelievable1

WHAT?! Is 'Bite yer legs' making an overdue comeback?

Agree1 Disagree0

Why would they be worried about running out of the number six to begin with?

Agree0 Disagree0

Just heard on grapevine that the reason they are producing more no six shirts is that they have run out of material for papa smurfs shirt when he makes his debut tues !!! lol mot !!

Agree1 Disagree0

Rather have papa smurf than Smith, bet hes fitter too.

Agree1 Disagree1

Bates 666 ?

Agree2 Disagree0

Chck my Delph post the day before he arrived - Delph & 25! Surely you can't think I just guessed the number he was going to be given? Someone will be shown at Thorpe arch showing a no 6 shirt on Tuesday.

Agree2 Disagree1

Robbie Rogers 6

Agree1 Disagree0

Why is everyone getting so worked up about a number 6? Just turn a few spare 9's upside down, god.

although everyone is probably going
to disagree with me, i think there is
substance to the alan smith rumours.
firstly i am wondering why snodgrass
hasn't been made captain yet, could
this be because mr grayson is saving
the honour for a new signing? and
with alan's history at leeds i think he
would fit the bill perfectly as he's got
passion that a leeds captain needs
and experience of playing at the
highest levels. secondly with howson
gone and delph on loan for only a
month and our striker force not
exactly firing on all cylinders, i think
smith would fancy his chances for
being a regular starter either in the
heart of midfield or up front. this is
what smith wants as he has been keeping
himself totally fit in hope of being
selected to play regular football but its
clear that pardew doesn't want him.
thirdly no matter how much anyone
tries to deny it he loves the club.

i personally think he'd be a good
signing even though he's only a
shadow of his former self

AL

Believable6 Unbelievable8

Is AL short for ALan by any chance?

Absolute 100% drivel.

Agree9 Disagree2

Smith play as a striker?,your havin a laugh.his scoring rates about as good as Paynter, this obsession with Smith is unhealthy, the guys past it,should go to non league club, thats more his measure.

Emile Heskey coming to Leeds! ;) {Ed013's Note - I put this on the banter page in case it is a joke, however I have heard this last week from a different source!}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Not the panto script again.. He's not coming is he.

Agree0 Disagree1

Hope he aint

Agree1 Disagree1

Oh yes he is.

Agree1 Disagree1

If he is coming & staying with the panto remark answer me one thing .........

Who is playing the front end of the cow?

Agree2 Disagree0

Billy Paynter.

Agree2 Disagree0

Sooner have him than Smith,in fact sooner have anybody than Smith, even Russell Doig .

Agree2 Disagree5

Guys guys guys, please get some lives for yourselves. Heskey for Leeds? Yes, we have a record of playing "strikers" who do not score for us, Billy one goal, Keogh, Smith, Cresswell, Blake, Rush etc...
What about Heskey up front with Billy one goal, Keogh, and why not Kevin Davies, 19 games left, that lot should get about 8 goals between them.
P.s., Ed, any truth in the rumour that Ross is off to Wolves in return for Keogh? {Ed013's Note - Unless something happens next week its all hush hush. I'm sure when SG said that some players will never play for the club again, Keogh was one of them}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well ive heard same rumour about heskey but also going to leicester and there fans seemed excited

Leeds are 90% done deal with Alan smith only stumbling block is smith wants 2.5-3 year deal Leeds only willing to do six month pay as you play with option of a yearly rolling contract outcome is both parties to meet in middle Leeds feel very confident of finalising deal in next 2-3 days VERY RELIABLE SOURCE MOT {Ed013's Note - If this happens everyone needs to remember we are United and MOT actually means something. The amount of negatives about him is appalling. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the way I see it we have to support every single player on that pitch. I have to grit my teeth a lot of the times with some of the garbage we have but I guarantee one thing, he will put his heart and soul into every game and i would prefer that than someone that cant be bothered}

Believable8 Unbelievable4

Well said Ed - don't want to see Smith back myself (not because of the Man U transfer - because of his lack of playing) but if he comes I'll be singing his name as loudly as I can.

Agree6 Disagree4

I think smithy could get the fans singing again and the youngsters will idolize him.

Agree6 Disagree4

Ed013 - I can't believe you're allowing this nonsense to be posted, never mind agreeing with it.

There is no way we're signing Smith - and if we do that's me finished for now. We need to be looking forwards, NOT backwards. {Ed013's Note - Like I said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I have no idea if Leeds even want Smith, but its a rumour/banter site. It would be a shame to lose a fan of a much loved club because a player played for a certain team that we don't like! Remember Strachan!}

Agree6 Disagree0

Good call Ed, I am not Alan Smiths biggest fan, he could never fool me, I do not know the circumstances of his departure, but if it is true that he did what he thought was best for Leeds and himself, then he can drink from my canteen any day.

Agree5 Disagree4

It said that he has joined leeds on Wikipedia and it said he has got the number 14. Made this just can be true this time.

Agree2 Disagree3

Alan smith at some point has got to come back to leeds. If he doesn`t then i`m afraid he will have to live with his demons for the rest of his life, I`d rather have him back now rather than later ?

Agree1 Disagree3

Would everyone leave the Smith rumours and move on. Alan Smith many many years ago..yes please, but not now. You only have to look at Henry or Brown. Good players in their day but past it now.

Agree4 Disagree1

There is no just no limit to this nonsense about Smith! It's about more than the circumstances of his departure, it's also about the fact that he never was particularly good anyway! Also, everyone knows we haven't much to spend, there's NO WAY we should be throwing decent cash at an over-rated, over-hyped, over-the-hill has-been.

FFS FORGET ALAN SMITH!

It's obvious we need a defender or two. Can someone tell me why we haven't got one yet? Apart from ' Bates won't give us money' which is obvious. We could have loaned one though.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Take a look at the proportion of defenders available on loan - not many available and they tend to be older journeymen no longer needed by their clubs. I think we'll struggle to get the right defenders without hard cash..

I am getting the familiar feeling that there will be a statement released soon by bates/grayson stating "We were in for four or more top quality premier league standard players............ but we just missed out on all of them "

I really am not expecting any good long term signings anytime soon.

Believable12 Unbelievable3

25 Jan 2012 18:45:04
We won't sign anyone until last minute to save paying needless wages.. Simple.

Personally think we will sign one maybe two new
players.Any thoughts guys

Believable0 Unbelievable2

According to posts on here we have Smith,Showunmi,Richardson,Hulse,Healy, all ex Leeds players you notice, theres guys on here obsessed with bringing ex players back, need new blood,a proven CB and FB,a quality striker and well be there or thereabouts.

FA to clamp down on the portsmouth situation. they have announced that due to recent events Leeds United will be subjected to a 15 point deduction

Believable3 Unbelievable7

Ha ha ha .... You can't punish a club twice ! We have served our sentence!

Agree4 Disagree0

I think your reply is missing the point. I think the original poster thinks like I do that Leeds can be punished for anything even though we have nothing to do with it.

Agree4 Disagree0

Only 15 points? Surely we deserve double that!

Agree1 Disagree0

Coil inspire us to 10 straight wins.

Agree1 Disagree0

The second reply gets the joke. And anyway if you can't get punished twice. Why did we? 10 points and then 15. That's twice if I'm not mistaken

I can not give you my source, but the same source that told of me grayson's affair 6 months before the story broke, has told me today that grayson handed his resignation in last week over player sales and recruitment. This resignation was rejected but shows he's at the end of his tether.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Why would the club reject a resignation? Surely if Grayson does feel that way keeping him at the club against his will is not the best way to inspire the players to perform. If my boss came out and said what a joke my workplace is, i'd be tossing it off everyday whilst looking for somewhere new. Does not seem overly believable in my opinion.

Agree2 Disagree0

It makes economic sense not to get promoted this season and have to pay our creditors xxx million as part of the agreement when we went in to administration- this is the last year so I would expect funds to be spent in the summer and a major assault on automatic promotion next season. Having said that, last years team would have walked the division this time round.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

This does seem to be a credible situation?

How ever many millions we ove the creditors, should we get promoted this season, would be far better spent in the summer buying some decent players to fill the gaps we need.

And anyone who says we would make more than our debts are by being promoted this season, that still leaves us (and uncle Ken) shelling out millions of pounds to pay off someone else's debt?

Far better to have our cake AND eat it than to get our cake and give it someone else......

If this is the reason we are not spending money, I would be right behind Ken Bates, as long as the money IS then spent next season, let's not prejudge this possibility?

MOT4alongtime

Agree4 Disagree1

With that still on our back surely paying the creditors is a smart thing to do with the promotion money? restore the club's credit rating, and secure the loans needed for a long term plan.

Agree1 Disagree2

Don't forget this is the second year of a three year plan. The above comments make a lot of sense.

Agree2 Disagree0

We owe just over six million to the tax
Man and any promotion before 2017/2018 means we are liable to pay it. In the clubs audited accounts. Six
Mills a drop in the ocean so don't see us not trying to get promoted just to avoid paying this. Would prefer to be financially sound though than face administration again. We'll be in a strong position compared to other prem teams if we go up with no debt. Leeds, Leeds, Leeds

Agree1 Disagree1

2017 /2018 atleast Bates wont be around.having a 85 year old chairman, that would be funny.

Agree1 Disagree0

25 Jan 2012 16:31:11
Ah well another day and no new signing. Why aren't i suprised.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Why are you so impatient? Most transfer deals are done towards the end of the window and there is almost a week left.

Agree3 Disagree4

Yer yer yer, seeing is believing and talk is very very cheap, esp when it's Supa Leeds. Still a fallen giant. C'mon get your kids in the academy, then we can sell them.

Agree1 Disagree1

I'm impatient cos I want the team to gel and get 3 points in the next game against Birmingham. Think we're up against it. I hope i'm wrong.

Agree2 Disagree0

My lads just been pick up by the academy, and IF and it's a big IF he makes it as a pro then no chairman will will treat my lad like bates treats our players.

Would anyone else stand for it with their kids, no way.

25 Jan 2012 14:57:06
I think the addition of Alan smithing a pay as you play deal could be good for Leeds it would give the team a massive lift of morale after howsons departure he also was a key figure in newcastles promotion to the premier league and hopefully give the fans a lift and on a pay as you play will make smithy stay fit

Believable6 Unbelievable10

You must be sniffing glue if you think signing a never-has-been like Smith would give the fans "a lift". It would more than likely cause civil war at Elland Road during games - and I, for one, would join the growing list of people not renewing their Season Tickets.

I say once again - GET A ******* LIFE!

Agree6 Disagree4

I think signing Smith would be the final straw for a lot of Leeds fans and show how crap SG is in the transfer market,we have better at the club already,

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Snoddy going other way plus 1.5 mill

Agree2 Disagree5

Plus to add on, why in gods name would we sell him to our championship promotion rivals

Agree3 Disagree0

People do talk crap, the coaches go in the canteen at thorpe arch when they want a 'coffee'i see them all the time in there when i take my son training there(only under 11 before anyone says anything)and believe me they never mention the first team...FACT

Agree2 Disagree0

I used to take my son there (goalkeeper coaching, there wasn't a cat in hells chance he was going to make it) and when we were in the canteen there wasn't afirst team player or a coach anywhere in sight.

Im not one of these people who hate smith and spend my time on this site slagging him of but from a leeds point of view do we want a player who hasn't been playing football.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

We have just got one Delph everybody seemed happy enough about that

Agree6 Disagree4

Er because Delph is a class act,and young, whereas Smith isnt, enough said,

Agree4 Disagree3

Really? It was my impression at ipswich that leeds were not in the game. I listened on the radio, which is admittedly not the same as watching but i didn't hear Delph's name much at all.
Leeds rarely had three passes strung together.
We do need a holding midfielder, but I can't see a fit smith handling that role let alone an unfit one.
Smith was only ever great on desire/passion. He was never a great player. Think Ferguson felt sorry for leeds at the time.
If Leeds sign smith then SG may as well quit before we are demoted. Best it will do is keep us in the championship and waste money, which should have been spent on a CM which will get us into the premiership.

Agree4 Disagree3

Yes but smith been out ages and i just cant see him being the player he was before

Agree3 Disagree3

But Delph's much younger and better.

can I just say to people that stick up for johnnys move to norwich IF your a Leeds fan and you are lucky enough to play for the club you support nevermind being lucky enough to be a proffessional player then is that not ambition reached. I was unlucky to not make it and had to stick with semi pro but if I had the chance to play at leeds no matter what they paid me or what division I was in for a Leeds utd fan playing for the club I love would be the dream for me. more money pffft, I'm sure I'd be comfortable with what they get paid and as for the lure of premiership football unless its with Leeds then I don't care cos at the end of the day I'm lucky enough to be a proffesional footballer. adding to that if you want to play for England at some point then I think if you are good enough and stood out enough you would be picked regardless. so I wish some players would read this and take note and remember the reason you wanted to be a player not for money just the chance to play and if ur luckier to play for the club you love.

Craig, please comment

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I agree, wen i was 13/14 i had a few trials with clubs that never worked out, back then we were champions league aswel and i guess i wanted to hold out for leeds who never came massive mistake i know but if i ever had the chance again to be on 50 or 60 k a week in the prem at a a random team or on 10/15 k a week in front of the elland road faithful i know my choice would be with leeds.

Agree2 Disagree2

I agree i wrote up a similar post not long ago bout johhn howson and that he wasn't irreplaceable and if he were a true leeds fan like us he should be happy just to play for leeds but i reckon we have a real player in Robbie Rogers cant wait for him to start and pilkinton has scored in each game behind closed doors for leeds think we still have a great chance of going up had a good look at the fixtures and we really should optimistic to think we could go on a great run we are due one! MOT is robbie rogers cleared to play v birmingham anyone know??

Agree3 Disagree0

Pilkington lol i mean pattison god where did i get that from! ha {Ed020's Note - could do with pilkington too tho lol}

Agree1 Disagree0

Pilkinton? Do u mean pattison mate?

Agree1 Disagree0

His ambition is probably to play for England and he wont get to play for them without prem football

Agree1 Disagree0

Another new player? Who is Pilkinton?

Agree0 Disagree0

I am sorry but if someone is good enough to play professional football then surely they shoud aim to play at the highest level that they can, not be content with second best. Just because someone has supported Leeds all their life does not mean that they should be content with playing at a lower level than they are capable of. If a youngster had come through the ranks at Bradford and was identified as the next Messi, should he stay at Bradford because they are his hometown club and play way below his potential?

Agree2 Disagree2

Thats like saying you test drive fords all day long and someone comes up to you and says heres 10k a wk more and you can test drive porsches now, obviously you reply oh no i am loyal to ford i couldn't possibly do that...grow up.he wants to test himself at the top level and lets be honest the chances of doing that with us at the moment are not great!

According to Newcastle Rumours, Smith isn't even in the reserves team.

If thats's the case, then do we really want him? I appreciate that some of us believe he's the 'prodigal son' of Leeds, but forget its Alan Smith for just a minute..... if he's that past it that much that he can't even make it into a mediocre Premiership sides reserve XI, why should we bother?

Plus he'll be quite comfortable sat on the bench (or his front room sofa) recieving millions.

He's got 6 months left at Newcastle. I rekon if he's gonna go, it's gonna be soon as they'll want money for him. The question is, will he go down to the Championship to get first team football for less? Or will he go stateside to play less football for more?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Maybe hes not in the reserves because the want him to leave a,s,a,p nothing to do with how good he is/isn't

Agree2 Disagree2

They didn't want anything for him in the summer ,they just want him off there books as hes on around £60,000 pw ,leeds would only offer him £15,000 pw tops ,newcastle would pay £15,000 pw as well but would you drop £30,000 pw when you have 1 yr left on contract ? i wouldnt if i was never going to get that sort of money ever again

Agree5 Disagree0

And maybe he wants to dig in,sit on his fat arse and draw 60,000 a week for doing sod all,if he kisses his shirt again I bey its got a dollar sign on it.

Stop been petty and bitter.bring back smith.how do you know he is past it?.how do you know he won't make a diff?tell you something he would give 100% which is about 50% more than half the team is.too many people just can't forgive and would rather miss out and just another sad journeyman loanee like brown.come back Alan and shove it to them..shrew leeds

Believable11 Unbelievable8

Mmmmmm.....how many games has he played in the last 3 to 4 seasons? how much is he paid? why would he not come in the summer (cos he would rather sit on his arse and be paid at newcastle?) what does this tell us about his fitness and desire? when did he last play a full meaningful season? how has his horrific ankle injury affected him? lots of questions that you seem to have all the answers to? move on please

Agree5 Disagree2

I accept that we just don't know the answers.what I mention was give him a chance if he comes back that's all.so many on here are anti him but he could answer a problem.we won't know unless it happens but if it does I say get behind him

Agree5 Disagree1

Since 2007 he has played 85 games for Newcastle and not even scored a goal. {Ed020's Note - was more a defencesive midfielder in the championship, and if you remember he did captain them to promotion}

Agree6 Disagree1

Most of the Leeds fans would give 100%,that wouldnt make them good players, being petty and bitter is also nothing to do with it,if he had been playing regularly and playing well thats totally different,if he was any good he would have been snapped up long ago,we dont want him or need him because he would add nothing to the side,FFS,give it a rest.

Howson is a total disgrace to Leeds United, who the hell does he think he is, FACTS in Division one he played well, last year he was very average, this year it proves he is a division one player, he has done nothing this year. He is a greedy individual who thinks he is better than most, i wish him nothing and hope he never returns.

Your a total person who should get a life.we know his reasons, prem football ,which we are a mile away from.more money and security,we could not give him.this was his chance and he took it,stop slagging him off, good luck johnny.shrew leeds

1ST POSTER! Jonny was above average last season, when he plays in behind the striker he can be virtually unplayable (see his hat trick at Burnley) Lambert's a clever manager and will play him in that position, watch him quickly settle in at Norwich and become a fantastic bargains for them :)

Agree3 Disagree0

Jonny never scored a hatrick at burnley! what you on about?

maybe you mean the hatrick he scored against scunny?

Agree2 Disagree0

Okay then, that hat-trick, point is, he got his best goal return last season when playing behind the striker, so what does Larry do? Put him back into CM

Johnny who? hes gone history good or bad lets move on.

Think leeds should sign a cb,lb, lw,st what you think best to fin in those roles ? ed {Ed013's Note - I agree with a CB, someone solid and proven at this level - a leader. I disagree with a LB due to Pugh, White and Charlie Taylor if recalled from loan. I disagree with a LW due to Townsend, Pugh, White and Rogers. I agree with a striker to a certain degree, a pacey proven one, but only if we fill the desperate need for a RB, CB and holding midfielder.

Well we can all dream can't we. It's so frustrating knowing we could never afford just that extra bit of quality to take us to the big time with bates' wage structure. There are several players we could sign if we could spend money on a decent transfer fee and good championship wages. We were 3 or 4 to championship players off finishing definite playoffs. There are so many players available that are better than what we've got in the 3 positions we need to recruit in if we could afford it if not these ones.

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Becchio will score nearly every game we score in for rest of season it sounded like he was a little fitter and sharper when he came on so get ready for more leeds wins {Ed020's Note - fingers crossed :P}

Agree4 Disagree0

Becchio and Snoddy are our only hopes. get em both fit and on the pitch = goals.

I find it comical that the people sticking up for Howson are probably the very same ones who slagged off Beckford and Johnson for doing the very same thing. Laughable.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Agree 1005 it's a joke. How can they try defend the indefensible?

Agree3 Disagree2

Except Beckford and Johnson didn't net the club a couple of million quid in the process....

Agree5 Disagree3

No but Beckford helped us to a promotion.

Agree4 Disagree0

So did Howson, if you remember the playoffs?

Agree2 Disagree2

We've never gone up through the play-offs you clown!

Agree3 Disagree1

Howsons gone move on

Agree1 Disagree0

They left because bates offered then a new contract which wasnt good enough then publicly slagged them off, especially johnson
