Is kisnorbo our savour ?? he was booted out of a poor Leicester championship side when we picked him up ? now we have a keeper lets get the defence sorted id like to see a couple more defenders signed and maybe Johnson on a season loan ...

Believable1 Unbelievable2

You clearly haven't seen him play..

Agree0 Disagree0

You seem to forget that Max Gradel was also victim to this treatment...

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 20:26:55
So, Andy Lonergan it is then...

Hmmm...Certainly knows the league well, but as evidenced by both him and Kasper last season, if the defence is f***ed and the goal is constantly being peppered with shots, it could be bad news
Paddy is back, Lees is getting his chance, no news on Parker after that "tackle" Saturday, White, Bromby, O'Brien, Bruce, Connelly...Is this Bodor worth signing? Can we get Lichaj back? Are we gonna spend more money (thank you Ken for splashing out on a keeper Best part of £800k profit?) and buy another decent defender?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Bodor looked like a carthorse

MOT: Our new number one is proven in this league, except for last season. last year we had a solid team and finished 7th. To get higher than that we needed to strengthen the fact we let so many goals in. Kisnorbo being fit and lonegran is a step forward in my eyes. The experience we lacked last year is back with us. Keep the faith.MOT

LEEDS UNITED

In's

Paul Rachubka - Free agent
Michael Brown - Free agent
Andrew Lonergan - Free agent

Out's

Kasper Schmeichel - Transferred 1.2 million
Elliott Kebbie - Out of Contract
Shane Higgs - Out of Contract
Richard Naylor - Out of Contract
James Baxendale - Out of Contract
Jonny Birbeck - Out of Contract
James Booker - Out of Contract
Neil Kilkenny - Out of Contract
Bradley Johnson - Out of Contract

Playing position still in need of...

Right back / Left back
central defender
maybe two new midfielders
one new striker for back up as Davide Somma will miss half of the season and becchio will miss the start of the new season.

Right back / Left back - "Eric Lichaj" can play in both positions for

central defender - I think "Tom Lees" can play a major role for that part but I'll let you all decide if we need another one or not.

midfielder "Michael Johnson" isn't going to be a first team player at city and wants to play for the club he supports

midfielder - We been linked with many other players it's hard to decide as the likes of Sammy Clingan and so on.

Striker - Give a list of realistic strikers we could go for which doesn't = ken bates spending as we all know ken won't do it.

trialists

Jlloyd Samuel - Has had a lot of experience in the prem

Isaiah Osbourne - Not so sure I'll let you guys judge

Alex Mendy - give this guy a contract he looks like a quality player with good passing skills.

right, now we have a no 1 goalkeeper i think we need to make many more signings. I think we should sign another centre back as kisnorbo is very injury prone. All the trialists at the moment because they all look good (especially mendy who is one for the future.... new snodgrass). I would like another strong centre mid to give us some more strength in depth. We should sign a reserve striker on loan because we only have 2 at the moment and if one gets injured i dont think grella ( who is still at leeds) will be up to the task. maybe even a reserve right back at a push :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Do you know anything? kisnorbo isn't injury prone at all he just had one really bad injury & Mendy is 27 so how can he be one for the future? Also he plays nothing like Snodgrass?

leeds united....
can i just put something to some of the people on here calling themselves leeds supporters, for those of u who dont know what a SUPPORTER is, it is someone who spends their hard earned money on a regular basis to SUPPORT REGARDLESS of issues or lack of investment, even though it is hard to do at times i know, and to get behind the manager, players and squad through UPS and DOWNS, all this negativity is not going to help players confidence on the pitch, i agree we should be bringing in good quality players to strengthen in certain areas, but isnt a player with confidence and support that plays for his team mates and manager and gives 100% week in week out as good as a 1million pound player with none? come on lads, we have what we have and we as leeds fans should just get behind our team and give it a rite good go come start of the season whoever we signe or dont signe......
leeds4life

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I see supporting a club as a two way concept. I put my hard earned cash and time in as you say, but i expect the same from the clubs owners and management. It is disappointing to see my cash being wasted on trivial buildings instead of going on new players. The reason free transfers are free is usually because there is something wrong with them.
I don't want to see anymore loanees they do not help the club at all they are usually just there to make up the numbers, also Grayson had no idea when it comes to strikers - 3 names spring to mind - Liam Dickinson - Lee Trundle and the talentless wonder Sam Vokes

Agree0 Disagree0

Or on the other hand he found Somma and sending him out on loan worked wonders, he signed Gradel who's our player of the year and is being chased by Champions League clubs, he got the best out of Becchio when Beckford left, and looks like he's unearthed another gem in Nunez...

His loans haven't been great as you mention, but at least he didn't sign them on proper contracts...

I want to put to bed all this Schmeichel stuff. He wasn't a very good goalkeeper He was ok at shot stopping but he was none existant any time the ball came into the box from a cross (which was a lot). He also was poor at organising the defence and commanding the area (anyone remember that balls up between him and Bruce against Cardiff). Anyway he has gone now so lets get behind whoever the new keeper turns out to be. I know whoever it is will be better than Kasper.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

He also wanted his wages doubling, and rightly, Bates said his performances didn't deserve it.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 17:27:38
Not that i'm clock watching, but after Simons Post match interveiw after the Owls game, he said we should have a signing in within the next 48hrs... Cant see any conformation of anyone though.Lonergan deal supposed to be imminent but why does everything seem to take forever at Leeds.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2011 18:05:38
We got Lonergan then for an "undisclosed fee" is any1 else fed up of hearing that when we sign or sell a player? I think as fans who pump money into the club we have a right to know what money is being spent on players

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I must admit that is exactly what I thought when i read the 'undisclosed fee'. It is a little secretive when fans essentially want to know ( quite reasonably) the amount and level of investment being made by the club they support. It is the fans that provide much of the revenue and they have a right to know if they are being shortchanged or not. The only slight caveat is that it is helpful that other clubs don't know how much we are spending/ still have available to spend.

Agree0 Disagree0

150k thats your disclosure, further more 100k was up-front with another 50k coming after 40 games.. Everton only offered 50k for a goalkeeper who was 2nd to their reserve keeper they loaned to PNE...
it just dunt make sense

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree - i also feel the same about injuries. Somma did the right thing and told us and that upset Grayson because now we know that two strikers are out long term he has to replace them with at least 1 new 1, whereas before we could have been strung along saved the wages of a new striker

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 16:57:37
These protracted transfers are SO tedious. If Lonergan wants to play for us, it shouldn't take THREE weeks of negotiations for him to decide. We want players who are 100% committed to the club, not having us as an after thought after Everton rejected them. He better be good

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Preston say it was due to his very ill daughter & whether he wanted to move..not to do with everton. Think she's better now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also Preston holding out for £200K when his puy out clause was only 100K, I should imagine we split the difference?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 16:54:45
Went to game sat and the trialists were average at best think Stephen Quinn and Michael Johnson would be really good signings for us and we still need a defensive midfielder to protect the back four Montgomery would be ideal these 3 players wouldn't cost much in wages either and also we need a Striker asap but we all good ones cost money

Believable0 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2011 16:51:38
come on leeds fans lets stick together we have been in worse than this and we pulled through together that what leeds is all about the fans home and away we sing our hearts out and get back to the prem where we should be . we are not gonna spend millions on players we did that before and look what happened people like , brown , and lonergan will add experience and leadership , and quality to the team and there will be more signings to help we already have good attacking but brown , lonergan will help the defence , grayson already said there will be more so lets be patient see what happens but what eve does lets pull through it together

cmon leeds press believe if yo agree with me

Think we should have told lonegran to do one we are no 2nd choice he only came running when he found everton didn't want himand thought he might have to play league one football so in his eyes were 2nd best who does he think he is couldn't even get in preston team

It seems to me that some fans on here want Leeds to get into debt again? No? Well stop expecting us to sign players for big fees. Get it in your heads that we are safe financially and believe it or not Bates doesnt want the club to diminish. You may argue he has no thought or feeling for the club but I do think he respects the club's histroy and believes it should contunue. That is how I want it so if no money is spent but we get decent players in then thats fine with me. Grayson is a fantastic manager and anyone who disagrees thats fine but just have a look at how he turned Gradels career around. Max was a nobody at Leicester and was crumbling away. He will get the best out of Rachubka, Brown and any other player he brings in.

I will support whoever wears the white shirt {Ed045's Note - How it should be.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Your kidding yourself mate. Bates respects his pocket

Agree0 Disagree0

Sadly nowadays it is not enough to play for Leeds, or want to play for Leeds, its obvious that money holds the key now, if a player can earn lots more at the likes of Bristol City, it says a lot about 1, the wages were offering, and 2, how mercenary players have become, on the other hand who can blame them, the players who now spend their whole career at one club, have just about disappeared, the big clubs will always lure the best players and cherry pick the most talented youngsters, .Leeds included

Agree0 Disagree0

Moron- we wouldn't get into debt by paying fees- we have made plenty of money in recent years that hasn't been spent- get your facts straight. We don't want to pay big fees, but we want good players, and to get them you have to pay at least the going rate- which we don't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bare in mind we still need to buy the stadium & training ground back.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Agreed, yet more smoke & mirrors. The clock is certainly ticking.

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 14:07:42
Fact is we were not good enough last year to go up. Based on the fact that we have sold players and not brought quality in (Brown seriously, I have played with better Sunday League players) and switched an 'alright' keeper for another 'alright' keeper, and that we will start without a decent front man (McCormick hasn't proved anything at Leeds yet and Big Billy P couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo) means without spending some of the money from Kasper, plus quite a bit more, we could struggle to hit mid table, and even be fighting for survival
Hate to agree with most people, but unless Monsieur Bates gets his checkbook out, we are up the creek without a paddle.
I don't have any mates that work at Elland Road, nor do I know SG's son or drink with Lorimor, just my opinion..
- Get Jason Roberts from Blackburn
Midfield General

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Jason roberts is a striker you plonka {Ed045's Note - I think 'Midfield General' is his name.. lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Right so you think Brown is crap yet you want to buy Jason Roberts because you think he is a midfield general. ROBERTS IS A STRIKER SO THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW HOW MUCH YOU KNOW ABOUT FOOTBALL. {Ed045's Note - I think 'Midfield General' is his name lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

Midfield general ? LOL - you sound a right know it all - maybe we need you in the middle LOL can you hit a horses backside with a slipper fella - there's a question for yer - midefoeld general my Arse-nal
quit the cliches and support the shirt who ever wears it pal MOT ( and you'd sign Roberts - jeeezuz )

Agree0 Disagree0

That's Jason Roberts MBE

Yep MBE and total respect for Jason Roberts there with his charity work but not up front on the football field for us thanks - maybe two or three years ago though yes - a good player for blackburn tho no doubt but not us ? but tempt me

25 Jul 2011 13:47:59
know that this is a bit of a random question but does anyone know if we r due any money for elliot kebbie and if so how much ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As far as i know we have 'retained the right to the players registration and therefore compensation if it is transferred'. That was the clubs line a couple of weeks ago. Dont know what the position is with specific fee or if anything has been settled. {Ed045's Note - It will be undisclosed/compensation and if Barca recieve a fee for him, Leeds will get a percentage I would imagine.

We ended last season knowing exactly what we needed to change to make us a BETTER team for next season.we started the transfer window being linked to a lot of good players who would improve our team.slowly one by one these players have been replaced with ones that some of us dont think are good enough for this club.2 wks to go and time is running out.i hope sg proves me wrong and pulls a rabbit out of the hat so that we get a good start to the season.but i have doubts. We need some Harry Redknapp style transfer magic.

25 Jul 2011 14:11:53
I think Lonergan is an ok keeper, but thats's not my concern that the players we are or are not signing, but more the fact that we have one of the best young managers around and he's a Leeds fan. but his he is only as good as his chirman.

I really hope we don't loose SG, come on pappa smurf show SG some loyalty and ambition.

in Grayson we trust.

We are Leeds

MOT

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Agree fully. SG has proven a shrewd, resourceful, promising and loyal coach who loves Leeds. So far I have been really impressed. I also really like him. He is not a big time Charlie or one who moans in the press. With the right support and a little more financial backing we would be a cert for promotion. But will he get that support from the Colonel?

Agree0 Disagree0

25 Jul 2011 13:45:54
sounds like we got a bargain price for a quality keeper remeber he was player of the yr at deepdale 2 yrs in a row and in my opnion is really consistent. Kasper was good but did make the occasional error qpr cardiff to name but a few

Believable2 Unbelievable0

25 Jul 2011 13:42:32
i reckon that our goalkeeping options look a lot better than last yr. kasper may have been better keeper but more depth as rachubka is miles better than shane higgs was lonergan is a fine signing as well

Believable1 Unbelievable1

25 Jul 2011 13:35:46
the only thing that bothers me about lonergan is why was he dropped for second half of the season and they got someone in on loan from everton, the only reasonable replacement for ks would of been alex smithies imo, having said that lonergan gets a fair go in my book i'll support him as i will the team

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Because he fell out with Phil Brown. the man is class, glad to have him.

25 Jul 2011 12:15:34
I really dont understand why everybodys hating on Andy Lonergan, I know he got relegated with Preston but he wasnt personally to blame and he is a very good, solid goalkeeper which explains why Everton have also been interested in him. He was also Preston's player of the year in consecutive seasons in 08/09 and 09/10, helping them to the playoffs in the 08/09, so I think everyone should just give him a chance at Leeds before he statrs getting judged.

Lonergan is a great signing, considered to be one of the best GK outside of Premiership, he was always our No1 choice as a replacement for Kasper not Stockdale, his name only came up whilst we were sorting out the Lonergan deal we had agreed a fee with preston and personal terms but preston wanted £200,000 even though his release clause is £100,000 so hence the long wait but it was always Lonergan not Stockdale.

Great Signing and hopefully more to come.

lonergan is a brillinat keeper he has experience of playoffs and is a really good shot stopper he organises the defence well .good kicker and is like having another captain . he is highly rated prem teams have been watching him. fergurson rated him at 2o million , alan irvine said hes is good enough for england , also man city wanted him for back up , dont be put off by him last season the defence was rubbish and he was injured you are getting a amazing keeper and a good hard working lad i know him because i got to the gym with him he said it would be an honour to play for one of the biggest teams in england and europe and said he was amazed by the support at deepdale last year from leeds
good luck from preston

is it just me or are ipswich trying to sign any player we are intrested in and beating us to them. since when have ipswich been a bigger club than leeds and im pretty sure weve got more money than them. i trust grayson but bates needs to go hes just proving to us he doesnt care about the club. expect 3 of the 4 trialists to sign then that will be it along with the lonergan deal just hope he plays well cos he got dropped from a poor preston team last year. we need another proven goalscorer though and not a league 2 goal scorer like lefondre like some people are suggesting personally i dont think he could cut it in the league above never mind the championship. i would be happy with billy sharp but not gonna happen.
