I was wondering if Bates would actually do a deal with someone from middle east...?

As he calls them as 'Sheik rub a dub'

Surely it has to be USA ?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

He (Bates) is RUDE about everyone let's not forget he calls the supporters of this great club Morons - He will sell to anyone who matches his price

Out of all the names being linked with the taakeover / investment, I think the Duncan Revie rumour is probably the most realistic one. I've been on the soccerex website which he is CEO of and in all the football news on there, There is not 1 mention of LUFC takeover which has be believing they were wanting to keep it quiet. Just a hunch. How good would it be to have a Revie based consortium. Revie Revolution II. What a fairtytale that would be.

Long and short of everything is that no one - not even players/agents will know who is involved in the takeover/investment. So certainly no one posting on here will be in the know.
Hardly likely to be a multi billionaire buying Lufc whether we like to admit it or not. The new owners will have monies granted but they will also want a return on their intended investments.

That is more like it I think.

Whilst im very excited by the prospect of a potential takeover/investment, I must say that some people are getting well ahead of themselves.

I dont suddenly expect we will be splashing out millions on world class players, more likely we will be picking up some decent championship standard players with the odd premiership fringe player.

I certainly dont think we will be "the next man city" as some people are making out.

We are still at least several weeks away from anything being finalised, so I expect there to be a million rumours about who is behind the deal, aslong as we end up with steady financial backing ( it does'nt have to be tens of millions) and honourable owners I will be more than happy, I would hate to end up in the hands of a group like the Venkys for example or the chancers that have pretty much destroyed Portsmouth.

Hopefully over the next few weeks we will hear some good news regarding all this.

Gandalf white.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I really hope we dont go the way of Man City and buy massive. I, personally, find it a lot less interesting than fighting the good fightt. We are dirty and we battle - that is the true nature of LUFC and the leeds fan. I would seriously question the nature of the 'supporter' who wants us to spend big to ensure success.

Where's Revie come in to the equation, and why speculate on speculation, all we know is that the preferred bidder is a multi national bidder, that could mea a major company and not individuals, however that said as much as i dont like Bates the individual, if he manages to put a deal together like the one he managed with Chelsea i dont begrudge him a penny

Its not a rumour just an opinion really...
What if this is all a wind up from bates and its one of his off shore companies that are taking over?
I know we dont like him and we'd hate him even more if this was a wind up but if it brings in more money to make us a better club would it matter if bates was still chairman? He's sensible with his money and knows the limit of spending in football clubs really so with just a bit more disposable income to spend each year i dont think he'd be too bad a chairman.

Re: Takeover

So much gossip, speculation - as we all know lack of communication or information leads to distrust and suspicion and convinces us of the evil of Master Bates, over the years it brought out quotes such as 20 odd yeats ago he will kot rest until we are kicked out of football etc - and the policy under Grayson of say nowt about owt again breeded speculation, hatred even towards Ken Bates - get the Chelsea out of Leeds etc etc etc - at my worst I hated the scumbag for year after year us getting no-one - he's creaming us, fleecing us, lining his greedy pockets etc etc - but my friends - this should be the moment to look at the facts and afterwards at last all of us be UNITED.

Facts: We were well and truly f**ked and a double admin like Portsmouth or even worse liquidation as per Glasgow Rangers - Outspoken loudmouth Ken came in - we were riddled with debt, in a absolutely hopeless situation - we didn't moan and complain when his dodgy, clever business methods saved us millions of debt did we ?
The same man has not invested in the team for years - not because he is tight, but because we haven't had any money ! Money's gone into the stadium, casino etc - but it must have allways been Ken's notion to save, rebuild, market a great club and facilities and structure and sell it on, its not just for the money - he is a businessman yes, but like any other human, what a buzz of a challenge to anyone to be big and bold and clever enough to save a famous club from extinction, build it up, sell it on to someone who can afford to fund the transfers and wages - he is 80 and ancient - making millions is no real use to him now, when we beat Chelsea in a couple of Seasons, I can guarantee you old Papa Smurf will have a smile on his face - he will still be proud of his achievements in life, and his thirst for business and a mighty challenge saved Leeds in the first place - I never believed I would end up writing something like this but I genuinely mean it - Thank you Ken - oh we the unpatient - he's allways known what he is doing and probably explains the morons quote - true, unfair to call Leeds fans morons, a choice of better words is all that was required from him - like 'with the greatest respect to the complainers, it is a very complicated job running a football club, and i am doing the best i can with the money i have got to build a long term future' From Leeds' top brass' own words, they seem to have rejected many an investor cos they haven't lived up to the high requirements set out for a viable investor/owner - just selling up or accepting investment to any old tom, dick and harry could have left us like Pompey or Rangers, so thank you top brass for riding the very long unpopularity storm in order to get us the best outcome - lessons have been massively learned from the Ridsdale era and proven - I am a very happy Leeds fan and we are on the way back and what joy it will be for us all

It must be a takeover you wouldn't need due diligence or fit and proper person test for an investor. On one of the posts a city financial expert said this should not be a long process. We all know what a control freak Ken Bates is, he would not want to have shared say in the club. Would he?

Good things happen to other clubs and they will for Leeds, it's just a matter of time.

The players will probably lined up already. Drury and Green came in quick succession.

I possibly more than a lot of people have been mega critical of Ken Bates but a colleague in London reminded me of a few things. Mr Bates might not be a well liked man but for a new owner to come into a club and turn it's fortunes around to become profitable from administration is one he'll of an achievement I then sad yes but he has also raped the profit. He said what about all those bankers who get massive bonuses for failing not making profit but massive losses. I couldn't argue with his statement. So mr Bates thank you but time for the new regime (please God) to take us back where we belong. The premiership and those fantastic nights in Europe once more. MOT Philbramley

After reading everyones thoughts and comments over the last 24hours I have started to get the feeling that "MAYBE" it could be Richard Branson taking over our fantastic club which would be AMAZING!!

One guy made the point that Branson is good friends with the QPR guy Fernandez. It could be possible that Branson has seen what he has done with QPR and wants in on the football game... with the right club (which we are) there is a serious chance of making a fortune and also with him being a football fan he would thrive on been a club owner.

Another post said "what I can't understand is why did Bates bring in Neil Warnock last season if he knew he was selling up in the summer?" My thoughts behind that are that again "MAYBE" Branson saw the impact Warnock had with QPR in getting them out of the Championship at his first attempt and requested (knowing that he would be buying Leeds) that Ken Bates did what ever it took to bring Warnock in before he signed for another club and he lost his man.

Looking into it even further, I am following Richard Branson on Twitter and have messaged him on several occasions over the past 2 months asking if he would be interested in saving our club, or asking if rumours of him taking over were true to which I have had no reply in any way shape or form... looking at his twitter account he replies to ALOT of people who message him so thinking he hasnt replied as he can't talk about it if he is involved in taking over our club.

Richard Branson would NOT just invest, he would want the club 100% his... Hope I'm right as imagine where we could be in 5 years time?? Name me one player who would turn down Leeds knowing that Branson was the owner??

Imagine the New Leeds shirt when we get promoted next season... Virgin across the front of the shirt and having someone like Adidas or Nike making the shirt.

(right need to calm down now before I have an accident in my trousers lol)

Just a word warning guys, I'm not trying to P*** on camp fire here but lets take step back here! Right its took a month from the first statement on OS to get to this stage and even now nothing is set in stone, you can speculate who the investor (investor or buyer who knows) is but none of us know, your sources don't know. We may end up in a worse position than know, who says investment will be on the field!
Any one else think the "no further announcement in the near future" on OS is concerning?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Then why ARE you pi$$ing on it?

We are all very aware that nothing is set in stone yet, but for f**k sake why can't you try and be positive about this, like the rest of us want to be?

We don't need any party poopers, we need believers.

You can have your glory if this all falls though and you can come back and gloat, but hopefully that won't happen.

Whille you are right mate, if there is one thing we can be greatfull to KB for is that he will have done his own Due diligence.
As he as said many times before he wants the RIGHT investment for LUFC.

I for one will be glad to see the back of bates - but if this all goes through i will be the first to say thank you to Bates firstly saving our club and then turning it around to make it a viable investment for the new owner/investor.

A mixed bag of news being reported tonight. It looks like the new investment has moved a step closer, however there are 2 slightly disappointing aspects.

Firstly, it sounds like it's purely just investment, rather than a takeover. And secondly it doesn't look like it'll be massive, or even complete soon, given the "no announcements shortly" part.

This is the report from BBC Sport.

"Leeds are closing in on new investment after reaching an exclusivity agreement with one potential investor.
The Championship club, who were bought by Ken Bates in 2011, confirmed last month that they were in talks over "investment for the long-term future".
The exclusivity period will enable the investor to carry out due diligence.
"Our discussions with them have left us very comfortable that they have the financial resources to support the club," said a club statement.
"They will have no issues in satisfying the requirements of the Football League's Owners and Directors test, unlike many of the previous approaches we have had to endure.
"We will not be making any further announcements in the near future."

Believable1 Unbelievable3

And we all know how much the BBC (and other media) love Leeds, don't we....

Even investment is welcome, if it means we can actually afford to buy players and fight for promotion, surely?

again I stress NOT lufc).
Given that the OS has announced an
exclusivity agreement and stated
clearly that due diligence will now
take place i state for the record we
WILL not be spending any significant
sums of money on transfers until the
January window.
That said from the wording of the OS
my mate agrees with a lot of posters
on here as do I that this is a buyout
of a controlling share in our club NOT
an "investment"

So what happens if the new chairman is as or more penny tight than bates?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Could such a person exist then??

Stop moaning for once!!

Agree2 Disagree0

Cant be as tight as bates . we dont want someone thats gonna throw all his money at the club unless there as rich as man city owners . we just want someone that will back the manager maybe bring some million pound players in.to be honest grayson tried to get quality for cheap but bates wouldn't pay the wages so even if they will pay high wages would be good enough , i dont meen 50,000 pw i mean around 20,000 pw for top earners

Can't see that mate, you don't buy a club thats in good health - surely it would make more sense to buy a club that needs tunring round. the investor/buyer will be paying good money for the club.

Agree0 Disagree1

Its not in 'good health' - squad are rubbish, club has no assets, crowds are dwindling and in debt for the Stadium referb. I think Bates has hit the same near bankruptcy point as he did with Chelsea, which is why he's selling up again to get a tidy profit.
A new owner could get the ground full and premiership football which would be a huge profit on whatever outlay they make.

Only thing I don't understand is why did bates employ Colin if he was planning on selling the club?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Hi, please do not call Mr Warnock Colin

tRip

Agree4 Disagree3

Would you have invested in the club the way it was going under Grayson, then?

Warnock has PROVEN success in the promotion game, he is a total asset to our club.

Agree2 Disagree1

Same reason folk do repairs to their houses just before putting them on the market .....to make it a more attactive option for someone to buy

Agree1 Disagree0

Probably hoped he could push promotion with what players we had at the squad which had we reached the prem league he would be selling for double what hes havig to sell for now

Agree0 Disagree1

Maybe the new investor has been in talks with Mr Bates for some time and wanted NW in charge for negotiations to continue. Just a hunch.MOT RON
