My mate rang me while out shopping to give me the news about Gary Speed, at the time I thought no way this is Gary Speed were talking about he's young and manager of Wales, got home and put on SSN and then it hit me,the young lad I saw play in one of the best midfields that has graced top league football in English football was dead, hour by hour as the tributes come in you realise the reality of what has happened, the man is respected by everyone involved in football, players and fans alike,it is a privilege to have seen him play and as a family man my heart goes out to his wife and children,as a Leeds fan saturday will be a very emotional day, let's sing our hearts out just for him.

What about paying a tribute to the 20 year old lad from Leeds serving with the 5th battalion rifles who was tragically killed by a roadside bomb fighting for his country. RIP Sheldon Steele.

He got a 2 minute mention on calendar news tonight. {Ed025's Note - all our lads and girls out there serving our country deserve the utmost respect..

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I agree totally with you I'm all in favour of a tribute to those that have lost their lives for our country (it's such a shame, they shouldn't be there, but they don't make the orders they just follow them) It's such a tragic loss of a young life and everyone of them should have at least some sort of mention on perhaps a remembrance monument like for the tragic losses of WW1 & 2

Very sad day ,I remember the first time I saw speedo play it was against Sheffield u ,in the promotion season he scored a great goal and for 25 mins after he came on he was unplayable .Never heard Gary boast in a interview ,It was very rare he did them ,It seemed to me he was only interested in playing the game he loved .No self importance like the footballers off today just a top man ,A Leeds top man like the shirt he wore so well RIP Gary you gave Me some unberleveble memories the goal at southampton I could go on and on

Didn't see the game saturday. Was we that poor?

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Yes, we were dreadful for all but the first 10 minutes of each half. I think our minds are elsewhere right now though.

Let's hope the lads out in a performance that would make Gary proud tomorrow.

Agree5 Disagree0

I dont think saturdays result really matters

Agree5 Disagree3

At the end of the day Gary Speed was a legend and a nice bloke ( he even got wales playing good football ), but we cant ignore the poor result on saturday.

Agree1 Disagree6

Any result in isolation can, and should be ignored. Do you think Fergie became a bad manager on the glorious day Man U got buried by their neighbours? Of course he didn't - and, though it pains me to say this, his team didn't just stop being good either.

I agree that we can't just forget the team no matter how devastating our collective loss, because life goes on and the world won't stop turning for anyone. But we need to keep not only football results generally in perspective, there are more important things in life, and we need to judge the team's performance over a season, not over a game or two.

I don't think results matter for a few games though. Gary Speed was a legend and he and Larry go back a long way. That's bound to have an impact on Larry, the team and us.

If anyone shares there memories and thoughts on the OS for the match day programme... Please put in for one of the new executive boxes to be named after him or atleast a plaque - I was the poster who came up with idea earlier and i think it would be a great mark of respect to initiate such an action and I think Bates would listen if we all Marched On Together in a bid to get a cult hero some lasting recognition in our stadium.

Rest In Peace - Gary

24 hours on and still can't believe Gary Speed has gone. A true Leeds United legend as you were to all the other teams you played for and an upcoming, young manager that Wales can be proud of. Thoughts are with his family and friends. This saturday Leeds will give you a minute silence in his honour, Millwall fans play the game and respect his friends and family, saturday is not about us, its about GARY SPEED RIP.

"It's only a game." How that comment has annoyed me over the years following a disappointing result for my beloved Leeds United. But, at times like this, you realise that football really is "only a game."

Being literally 2 days younger than Gary Speed, I almost feel as though I grew up with him through the late 1980's to mid 1990's as Leeds went from promotion hopefuls to Champions of England to well-established top six club. I doubt that I will ever see a midfield at Elland Road as good as the one Gary Speed played in.

Gary Speed had everything in his locker; a terrific left foot, amazing ability in the air and fantastic versatility. In fact I can recall him scoring some cracking goals with his right foot too!

It is something of a shame that it takes a tragedy of this order to unite football people. The last time I can remember football fans being so united was following the Hillsborough disaster. But it is a fact that tonight, fans of Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United all feel lucky to have seen the great man play for their clubs. Then of course, there are fans of Welsh football who are convinced that Gary was on the verge of presiding over their most exciting era in decades.

On Saturday Leeds play host to Millwall. It has already been announced on the official website that there will be a minute's silence in honour of the great man. Which leads me to make the following plea to all Leeds fans.

If by any chance Millwall's fans fail to respect the minute's silence, please maintain your dignity. I have already seen whispers on the internet promising retribution after the game if Millwall's fans fail to show their respects in a proper manner. This would be the last thing Gary Speed would have wanted.

Let's also not forget that Simon Grayson signed professional forms on the same day as Gary Speed. The manager has already said that he has lost a true friend, so Saturday will be an emotional day for him. My hope is the team don't let him down, and we play our part by filling Elland Road and cheering the team on in honour of the departed hero. Please let's do it properly.

Obviously the main thing is that his family are treated with the utmost respect at this awful time. It would be tremendous to have the right sort of headlines coming from Elland Road, in honour of the father, husband and son which he was to his nearest and dearest.

RIP Gary Speed.
