Season 1963/64 and 1989/90 are the last two promotions out of the 2nd tier of English Football for Leeds Utd, Revie's rise of experienced players and raw youth speaks for itself, Wilko bought the likes of Vinnie Jones, Strachan, Chapman, Thomas, Hendrie, McClelland, now after a few turbulent seasons we are blessed with 2 keepers and a end of career midfielder to bolster our promotion push. I don't care what anyone says we are not geared up for promotion.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Apart from DR - Howard Wilkinson was the best Manager Leeds United ever had, his style of football and passion for playing experience and youth needs to be copied by Larry and Smurf

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I have to say I always thought that Revie bloke was none too shabby

With the paper thin squad at present, Won't sleep properly until we get 55 points on board to avoid relegation .

Believable2 Unbelievable4

Just hope we can get a few decent premier loans in, to bolster the squad a bit, there might be some decent young lads available like chelsea's conor clifford for example. Have to agree though only 1week to kick off and our squad looks light.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have faith peeps lets make a judgement at christmas

Agree0 Disagree0

Tipping mid table at best by Xmas.

I Have come to the conclusion that ppl on here have no faith in our present players or newest signings, cos all there doing is putting them down ova n ova agen. Instead of getting behind them n backing them, cos we will be betta prepared this season, the new boys will make a difference have faith....M.O.T

Hope ur right but think ur wrong

Who do we actually need?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 decent players would be good

Agree0 Disagree0

What we need is to bring youth through now we have a spine of gd players thru the team we need to put some hungry kids in there and show some faith

Agree0 Disagree0

I love the club but hate nearly every player we've got. 90per cent not good enough to pull on white shirt

general concenus seems to be our Back four needs strengthening. Instead of spending money on signings and additional wages wouldn't we be better, with better back four coaching of the guys we already have. Lucas as coach would be the best signing for me
He could sort out- OB, Bruce, Paddy, Lees, Connolly, Bessone, Parker, White plus the youngters we should be blooding and bringing through.
How many defenders do we really need??

Believable0 Unbelievable2

We should get rid of bessone, bromby, bruce, get in 1 decent cb, hope lees does ok and paddy can stay fit, try white/parker at lb, get the lad from villa for rb, and see how we go

Agree0 Disagree0

Good idea, lets just stick anybody in back four then coach some skill and talent into em, get a grip, a Don Revie couldnt improve some of the players weve got, Parker and Paynter aint championship players, doubtful any coach in the world could make em so.

Agree0 Disagree0

I Lucas can make a defender out of Bessone he would soon be head hunted to join Elliott Kebbie

Alan Smith - " ive been back to watch games, but never as a player, its not something ive ever wanted to do to be honest"
"but i have a great affiliation with the club, they brought me through the academy and i left as a senior"
" im not going to go into the destination i went to, not even going to touch on it, people will express there feelings and i know that"
"theres been a lot of talk about my future but im just concentrating on playing football".

DRAW A LINE UNDER THIS.
ALAN SMITH IN HIS OWN WORDS HAS SAID HE HAS NEVER REALLY WANTED TO RETURN TO LEEDS AS A PLAYER.

Sunday will be the only emotional return we get for one of the best ever players to come out of Leeds academy. Loved him at Leeds and i for one will be in the stands applauding him if he plays.

Believable3 Unbelievable8

He never kissed the scum bag, so stop posting s**te.

Air Asia tycoon Tony Fernandes is plotting a £100m move to buy Queens Park Rangers. Fernandes, 47, is the team principal for Formula 1 outfit Team Lotus and QPR have issued a statement confirming "preliminary discussions" have taken place over a sale.
Please buy Leeds

And Xavi

Right there is a well known saying that if you say something a thousand times people believe it as the truth so I am going to start a rumour that Messi is going to sign for Leeds in the hope that it gets said a thousand times and Messi then actually believes it and does sign. lol

Believable1 Unbelievable0

We don't need Messi, we've got Nunez, can we have Puyol and Pique instead :O)

There are so many posts on here about us being linked with attacking players it's untrue - everyone who watched Leeds last year knows we need better defenders - although I'm no big fan of Bates I do think Larry is the best man for the job but I am a bit concerned that what most fans have seen not much has been done about it - ok we have signed Lonergan but even the best keeper in the world (which he isn't) can't defend on his own - really hope to see a couple of experienced defenders come in soon and maybe a striker cos with beccio out for a while we are gonna need one

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Looks alot better than last season

-----------Lonergan-----------
-Conolly-Kisnorbo-O'Brien-Lichaj-

-------------Mcfadden---------

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Howson on the bench ?

Today will be another 'no news' day at er, apart from advertisements of corporate boxes and the east stand development. So nobody build their hopes up of some mega signing happening. Next wk will see the action, and that will be loan players coming in, coz that my friends will be larrys remit due to funds available. Players who don't give a toss, if we do well or not. Hate to write this, as I have been a lifelong leeds fan and can see bates point of view at times on bricks and mortar, but this season will be a struggle if no coin is shelled out. Views anyone? Bri

Believable6 Unbelievable3

I agree that today is frustratin in terms of transfer activity but that is normal cause we want the best for Leeds utd. But im sorry m8 i disagree 100% that the season will be a struggle. Brown is better than kilkenny, Nunez is better than B. Johnson. Clayton is like a new signing, we are no weaker than last season, already a bit stronger and more experience with signings to come. People are just letting the frustration of the off season interfere with logical reasoning thats what pre season does to u lol. Our brains are half full or more of football and then when the season ends its replaced by either blind panic or toilet s**t transfer blues. Have faith, Leeds Leeds Leeds. LMAO.

Agree0 Disagree0

I AGREE BUT LETS HOPE WE ARE WRONG.MONEY IS TIGHT FOR MOST CLUBS BUT WITH OUR FAN BASE AND MONEY IN FROM KASPER SURELY WE CAN PAY FOR SOMEBODY OF SUBSTANCE.LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT WEEK BEFORE WE MOAN TOO MUCH BUT TO HAVE ANY CHANCE OF STEPPING UP WE NEED AT LEAST 3 MORE QUALITY PLAYERS

Agree0 Disagree0

When the new rule comes in (next season I think) that clubs can only pay out on players wages a given percentage of what income they actually generate then Leeds will be in a better position than most with having the highest gates and prices in the Championship. Earnings higher more money to spend on players wages. It would not surprise me if Bates and Grayson have agreed to let this season just function along and then have a real good go for it next year. The new East stand development should provide that extra income. Don't forget Ken stated he had a three year plan last season. This is only the second year

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed's are you able to shed any light on the previous post about the so called new rule coming in, expendature vs. income rule? i do think that will be a great equalizer for us. {Ed001's Note - the Football League have signed up to UEFA's Financial Fair Play guidelines, the details are all on UEFA's website mate. I would suggest you read it yourself though, they are very convoluted and almost impossible to explain adequately.}

Alan Smith a question?

The mere fact that such an avowed Leeds supporter moved to Old Trafford at all will be one that many Leeds fans will never be able to see beyond, even though he waived a significant amount of money he was due as part of the deal to help try and satisfy the black hole that was the club's mounting debt at the time.

That he will never be forgiven by many fans is something Smith has come to terms with, but for those spitting out a vitriolic 'Judas' each time he touches the ball on his return, what would have left the biggest void? Losing a player to Manchester United, or seeing the club go to the wall? Worth a second or two to think about, perhaps?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Great post, i think we all were gutted he left, to then think it was to man utd was beyond what we all thought BUT when it comes down to the fact that no other club was prepared to either pay what we were asking or if they were, it was in staged payments, not upfront......the fact he went regardless of how much he hated the club, says something about his love for leeds. it is well documented that this transfer helped keep us alive for that bit longer and shouldnt be forgotten. I hate the fact that he went to them but lets get off his back, all the speculation he wants to stay at newcastle to bank 60k per week is just that - speculation we don't know for certain that we have even offered him anything, his personal circumstances etc

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree, there's a great article on this very subject written by Peter Lorimar in todays YEP which the Smith haters should read. Maybe then they would re-evaluate the situation, although sadly I doubt it as many have been so blinkered by their hatred towards him that they refuse to accept even the most concrete of facts.

Personally I think that it's for the best that he's not coming back as it would have proved to be a devisive move. It's time everyone on both sides of the argument moved on.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you're on twitter please support me I'm off to the game on Sunday and am attempting to get #TeamSmudger trending
MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

Please stop with the sob stories about Smith, you're boring me to tears.

Sunday's game is about Leeds United preparing for the new season. Smith is nothing more than a bit-part player for the opposition. Whether he gets booed or not is irrelevant. At the end of the day if you're earning £65000 per week you should be prepared to take some stick every now and again. If he does get booed, I for one won't give a damn. If you believe the bs that Scum were the only club willing to pay for him that's up to you.

We need to concentrate on the future, not the past. Smith was never that good anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Keep it real guys, the whys and wherefores of why he left dont matter, what matters is , likes been said, he aint good enough, and he was not one of the best to come out of the academy, why all the fuss about him? it beggars belief, if he could improve the team, yes, but he cant, leave him where he belongs, in the Newcastle stiffs, he would have been snapped up weeks ago if he was any good by a premier club, enough said.

Agree0 Disagree0

If i was being paid 60K a week to play for scum i wouldnt give a monkeys what people thought of me and i bet 99% of you would have done exactly the same

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sick of this emoyional attachment to the past. Youre all like a bunch of toothless gummy grandadsd, lmao. Seriously times have moved on and Smithy is not the footballer we knew, espec at that expense. U keep slurpin ure slightly warm soup, MOT

can't help feeling sorry for poor old sven and leicester, all them signings and they reduce the number of subs, wow what a idiot. I think all the signings will cause unrest after a while and show sven for what he is, a poor manager with a crap haircut to boot. Just feel all these signings are not justified

Believable7 Unbelievable1

29 Jul 2011 08:34:25
This is not a rumour, just an observation/rant. I don't profess to have any great football knowledge and, yes, I would love to have Leeds in the Premiership and to have the best players. Bottom line is I have followed this club for many years, in many grades and will continue to do so regardless of what division they are in and who is running the show. For mine, that is what being a supporter is all about and some of the alleged supporters who place comments on this site should have a good hard look at themselves.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Shut up you prat everyone is entitled to their opinion

Ken Bates was visited by the Ghosts of christmas past, present and future. The next morning SG came in on crutches, ill, and in fingerless gloves saying he just couldn't do it anymore and needed players. KB, his heart warmed and feeling guilty after his revelation said 'merry transfer window everyone' and has handed SG a bottle of cough medicine, new gloves and a 10 mill transfer kitty. WHOOO, HOO Back in the big time
