this might be old news but was just listening to an interview on bbc with warnock and at the end he says if i got a million pound i would have to buy 5 players with that, Bates obviously isnt opening his wallett, bring on the investment!

Can help but feel we are all getting ahead of ourselfs and setting up for a huge disappointment, everyone dreaming of billionaires taking over and whisking the club off it's feet and kissing goodbye to the colonel, I do admit I'm keeping all fingers and toes crossed but we don't know the full story yet, it could be just a simple investor that adds to the board and sanders stays put, and how upset will we all be then, think everyone should wait for more details first before expecting good times ahead, us Leeds fans are always getting lubed and fluffed up just to be let down

Believable6 Unbelievable1

He is probably getting a few million to build the casino...Nothing else.

maybe, just maybe this new investment will enable warnock to offer fresh improved terms to the likes of white clayton and mcormack is he sees fit that they deserve it. It would help because clayton is defo one of the best young midfielders in the ch white has some potential and mc scores goals. Team chemistry and understanding would also benefit. I reckon snoddy will extend talks because he will understand that not much will be happening until this is solved one way or another so there is hope that we may keep some of our best players only if the deal goes through, and the new group proves commitment with transfer fees and competitve league wages

I live in the states now.... formerly from Leeds and a huge Whites fan since 1965. Here's what I just read Toronto newspaper 'National Post' website....
"Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has been linked with investing in an English soccer team for the second time this month.

MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum was supposedly interested in English Championship team Nottingham Forest, according to British reports earlier this month. This week, the British media has MLSE, which owns Toronto FC in Major League Soccer, kicking the tires of another Championship team, Leeds United. The Championship league is a tier below the English Premier League.

English Daily Mirror soccer writer Ian Edwards tweeted early Tuesday morning a rumour that MLSE was interested in Leeds United."

Perhaps there is a God afterall. Could this be the light at the end of our very long tunnel?

Never mind about the take over talks. congratulations to Tom lees on signing a 4 year deal. at least we have 1 player who shows loyalty. All the best Tom. {Ed013's Note - Well said, great news. At least we have the start of something, what ever it is, developing! So for next season we will see Pearce, Lee's and Becchio for sure, unless someone bids silly money for Becchio. Just a thought but maybe this investment thing is not actually a takeover, as the officlial site says its a long term investment. Maybe it will be a stadium sponsorship like Leicester and Newcastle did last season with remnaming the stadium. That way we could spend more and still be inside the financial fair play rules. Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable5

But now I'm hearing that Bates has had an extremely serious fall and that's why he's selling up?
As much as I hate him, I feel for him if it's true.

The club obviously know the rumours & it's very strange that the club & Ken Bates have kept so quiet whereas TMLS straight away denied the takeover rumour. Also why offer 400 grand for a player, be the preferred choice for the player, then decide not to bother even though you obviously have the funds as a profit making organisation to fund the deal. Have the papers say that you can't afford a £400 grand deal, indicating you are not a serious challenger for next year obviously affecting the quality of player that you can attract to the club and still all the while not making a statement.
We'll see what happens............................one can only hope.

I can confirm that I will be tabling a firm offer for a controlling stake in Leeds United tomorow afternoon, IF i win £72m tonight on the Euromillions.

IT COULD BE YOU! lol

Bates may have saved the club from extinction, but if he doesnt invest in the playing squad NOW, we will be relegated next season.

In the words of Morrissey,
" good times for a change, see the luck i had, can make a good man turn bad, so please please please, let me, get what i want. Lord knows it will be the first time"

Sentiments every Leeds fan can take heart to.

Leeds United is talking to potential new owners but the groups do not include Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd.
An MLSE source said there was no truth to reports in the English media that it is a potential new owner of Leeds United. This came almost five years to the day after news surfaced the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs was thinking about buying a team that could play in the English Premier League, with Leeds United as a potential target. However, MLSE abandoned the idea after its investigation showed English soccer could be a treacherous money pit.
In a statement on its website, Leeds United said it "can confirm that talks are taking place regarding investment for the long-term future. The club has always publicly stated that it would welcome potential investment." The team did not identify any of the potential investors.
Leeds United has one similarity to the Maple Leafs - it is a team with a far more glorious past than present. In the last 10 years it fell into financial difficulty, which resulted in the large-scale sale of players and relegation from the Premier League. Leeds fell as far as League One, the third division in the English system, before being promoted back to the second division, The Championship, in 2010. The team finished 14th in The Championship last season but has a large fan base and still hopes to get back to the Premier League if the right investors can be found.

29 May 2012 15:45:56
Just a thought on the wording of the "investment" statement on the OS. The company i work for became insolvent last year and before the administrators came in the company made a statement that they were in financial difficulty and were looking at investment to ensure their future. As it transpired we were then subsequently bought out by another company within the same month. I wouldnt get too hung-up on the word "investment" as not being a buy-out, i would look at the fact that a statement has been made and this would suggest (judging on my what happened with my company) that whatever follows next will happen quite quickly. The only thing that i can see slowing the deal down will be the need to unravel KB's offshore web!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

29 May 2012 14:14:02
If you look at the situation if Bates was thinking of not accepting bids for investment then, why pull out of the ward deal, surely it would have made more sense to still get the targets we have set, if you know that no extra money would be forthcoming. With or without extra income we still need to build a team or squad strong enough to compete for promotion next season, so loosing out on targets would not make sense.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

You've lost me with this one. If Bates was selling the club then he wouldn't spend. He would keep his cash. If big investment was coming in Warnock might be looking at more expensive players than Ward. JD

Agree3 Disagree0

With more money surely our targets will go up a notch, hopefully premiership quality,or top end championship players,we live in hope.

Agree2 Disagree0

That's exactly what I mean Bates would not have pulled out of the ward deal if he thought there was not bigger money coming into the club or if he had no intention of selling, so his actions to me means that a take over is the more likely outcome.

Agree1 Disagree0

Makes no odds, from a legal perspective, whether he spends on Ward or not since the money belongs to the club as a separate legal entity.

Bates may own the club but he still has to account for the money in accounts filed at Companies House. If he trousers the club's cash as a dividend in the UK it's taxed at 50% so he's better off investing the club's money in players then selling the club and paying capital gains tax at between 10% (Entrepreneurs Rate Relief) and 40%, maybe less if the parent company is offshore.

The only explanations for pulling out of the Ward deal are that the price was too high or the potential investors wanted a freeze during negotiations.

Let's just hope it's the latter.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 May 2012 14:02:15
Let's not get over excited. A bid (or bids) might have been received but greed B****** Bates might not accept it (them). If he wants too much for a share the investors might walk away, I hope not.

This might answer why we did not go for Joel Ward. Potentially we could be looking at a better class of player.

The silence on transfers from ER has been deafening perhaps we now know why. We have all been doom and gloom about Warnock resigning because of a lack of backing. I for one kept the faith. If Snodgrass was leaving, Warnock wouldn't have come out and said I can see his viewpoint.

Let's all stop being negative and pray for some results.

Is all this investment/takeover a welcome smokescreen for Bates so that he has a excuse for sanctioning summer signings. If it is investment that he is looking for, that shouldn't have been an excuse for not signing Ward who Colin seemingly wanted.

THis may be very pessimistic but even so this is a sign of how low trust in the current regime has sunk? And why would any sound investor trust Bates. They wouldn't. Harding at Chelsea is just one of tens of examples. LLHB, MOT.

Have anyone thought why bates is quite and wants to sell, there maybe a more simple explanation to do with the state of his health. He has been under a lot of scrutiny and coupled with his age may now have taken its toll. That would be sad for him but may explain the present situation.

I have been aware of all the rumours this past week, although I have been very sceptical, then I seen it all confirmed on OS and SSN, I relly hope that this deal goes through and our suffering can end with good strong investment in the club.

Although on a sidenote I would also say that I have always supported Ken bates for saving us at our darkest hour, I do believe he has had a vision all along that is now taking fruition, and obviously there will be alot of money in it for him personally.

I just hope that he does'nt scupper this deal with his demands.

Club statement confirms that Leeds are in talks with regard to a potential investor. I only hope that if this is a takeover that it is not some dodgy Asian businessman such as Venkys at Blackburn and Bates stays true to his word and that he will only sell if it is in the best interests of the club. If this is to be the end of Bates then I personally would like to thank him for at least putting the club back onto a firm footing when it would have been easier to walk away when the abuse started and let us rot.

This morning i received a reply which simply said...

I would imagine so will Ward. That's the thing about previously keeping quiet about who the club is targeting, you alert other clubs if you make your targets known. Phil Bramley

Dear Mr. Bates,
I am not exactly 'anti-bates', however I am a Leeds fan and I am disappointed with the lack of investment in the playing staff. I know what you have done to save our club and I am grateful, but please sell the club. You have taken us as far as you can and it is time to go, for the benifit of the club and yourself.
Sincerely
X
