I personally believe that the people investing/taking over will be very, very wealthy, however I don't think we need shed loads of money to get us out of this league.
Keeping McCormack, Clayton, Snodgrass & White should be a priority though & we should offer them better deals. Then adding Pearce, Green, Kenny & Peltier + 4m for players would give NW an exceptional chance of getting us out of this league. This is not the league for throwing a fortune at (as Leicester found out last year).
This league needs a team of fighters and proper no nonsense footballers (not prima donas) and I believe that NW will provide us with them.
It's definitely going to be an exiting season though. For the first time in years I'm daring to believe.

In my opinion. If the takeover is completed by the kind of money we can only dream about 3rd place in the Premiership is up for grabs. Only the 2 Manchester clubs seem out of reach. We've already had a couple of close ding dongs with Arsenal and Spurs recently. Chelski aren't the same force without Mourinho and we always raise our game to face that kind of scum so with maybe 100M in transfer money for the start of the 13/14 season I don't see any reason why an attack on 3rd place is not achievable.

Believable7 Unbelievable9

I worry about some people who post on this site. Mate, we are currently mid/lower table Championship and you are already getting hacked off if we dont come above Arsenal and Chelsea in the Premiership. Fight the good fight, my good man!

Agree5 Disagree1

Let's get out of this league first !

Agree5 Disagree2

Id go further. I think we could be fighting out with scum city. Especially if we can bring in Jose or Guadiola.

Agree1 Disagree5

So you two want us to be the new Chelsea 2006? Do f*** off... I want us to be the revived Leeds . Full blooded, dirty, old school Leeds - reborn 2012 style - A club with soul. That's what football needs. That I what Elland Road should have.

Agree4 Disagree0

We don't BUY success, we fight for it, that is the Leeds WAY. Okay, yes we buy players, but money doesn't bring success, we buy players who WANT to play for Leeds not for the money....

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Jul 2012 21:01:20
I wonder when the takeover is complete if we will liaise with Forest who at one point seemed further along the line than us. Last thing we need is a press conference announcing the good news at the exact same time as Forest do a press conference announcing the same thing.

My guess is legal completion along with transfer of funds Friday followed by an "outgoing" press conference by Ken Bates same day followed by new owners press conference Monday 9th July.

Theres no such thing as passion in football anymore. Money controls football no one really wants to play for Leeds. We're a big club (i'd say biggest in championship and bigger than half the clubs in prem.) with alot of history but if Accrington Stanley come along and offers you 10k more a week its a no brainer you would go there. Sorry I can see where you're coming from by 'i would rather see players that want play for leeds' but it just doesn't work that way anymore sadly.

wouldnt it be funny if all this investment and take over talk is kb's way of pulling strings and keeping us fans on tender hooks. and trying to publicise the club. it would not strike me at all if this were to happen,

i have heard and read so many rumours regarding these so called investers from sheiks to rich businessmen etc.
its all talk when did we become a club so infiltrated with gossip. we are leeds we always shine bright in the end
if so called players think they have big futures leving the club ie. mcCormack, clayton, white, and who ever else let em leave they will all end up like kilkenny (at bristol)

give NW a chance and he can take any 2bob player and make them into a commanding force ive seen him do it at QPR and SHEFF UTD.

I know we are all getting very excited about the prospects of huge amounts of money being available to make lufc the team we all want it to be, but does anyone else have any reservations about us becoming another Man City? I mean isn't that what's bad about English football? I would like to be able to at least pronounce the names of the first team, unlike the Chelsea's and Arsenal's of this world. Buying the best players from around the World isn't good for the English game, just watch the national teams performance! What about our academy, one of the best in the country, would we just train up players to sell to someone else when they achieve the standard? Don't want to be negative about the takeover and I want Leeds to be as successful as they can be but there is a potential downside, or is it just me?
Chris

Believable6 Unbelievable8

Absolutely agree, in many ways I would prefer to be safe in the Premiership using home grown players from a flourishing Thorpe Arch, some quality British players (and perhaps the odd overseas superstar!) than be winning all the time with megamoney buying success.

Agree7 Disagree4

Can't agree more. What we need is British academy's for our young players. As for the national team JOKE.

Agree5 Disagree3

We would all love it to be this way but reality tells us, you need to invest big now days. If we don't then we might aswell say goodbye to any silverware, sad as it is. Still doesn't mean we carn't bring through some good home grown talent.
We might asweell be apart of it, then not at all.
mot4life

Agree3 Disagree0

Would be proud to see Leeds producing quality talent for the national team while competing in the premiership, even if we sell them on. it's not all about trophies.

Agree0 Disagree2

There's nothing wrong with a club being backed by the hugest amount of money of possible so long as that club is Leeds United.

Agree6 Disagree0

We managed to get all the way to the euro champ league semis with a team made up of a majority of academy players so its been done once and can be done again with the right manager and backing

Agree3 Disagree0

I dont believe in 'buying the league' as some sore football fans do, i believe that if youve got the funds to buy the players than can win you the league, then gladly spend that money

hi ed heard some people saying to take a look at jackson martinez from columbia i think he will not be willing for a trade of lifestyle but i cant help thinking with mccormack looking like leaving and becchio in my opinion not quite good enough added with the takeover maybe he's worth a shot? {Ed013's Note - His market value is around 4 million and to be honest, Leeds need a proven, pacey striker at this level that can hit the ground running. If money was no object and the price was lower, he may be worth a punt, but I am sure some Prem clubs are looking at him}

i have been on wiki and looked at sheikh mohammed, under the heading sports and interests it states he is thought to be in discussions to buy leeds united.

he is worth $79.5 billion.
abramovich is worth $7.5 billion.
our queen is worth half a billion

ha ha we could be the richest club in football

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Hes not worth that much I'm afraid he's not as rich as you all think. He's worth 10 billion or just under. Still a tidy amount I know but 79 billion would make him the richest man in the world and that he ain't. Google worlds richest men and your top 100 hundred are there.

Agree0 Disagree3

Knowing LUFC Grimms Fairy Tales would be a more reliable source of information than Wiki, why does anyone actually go on there??
Maybe posts shouldn't be allowed if the information is from there - just a thought {Ed013's Note - I am all for that and your right its nonsense and is wasting people's time}

I don't understand why we haven't snapped up deals with White, Clayton, Mccormack and Snoddy. I thought these players were superb last season even if they turn down a deal think its a bit rash to just show them the door we need to build our squad around these players. Well lets face it Snoddy will go as Leeds always get rid of our captains.
Hope this takeover means we can secure these players. MOT!

Believable5 Unbelievable5

I suppose you want to keep Barn Door Billy and Ken, bring back Smith, Woodgate and Bowyer too, just for sentimental reasons since we can afford them with loads of dosh! - let them go, they don't have the club in their hearts and if we do get a takeover they would end up warming the bench if lucky and the reserve bench if not so lucky.

I would rather see players that want to play for Leeds first and foremost

NickW MOT {Ed013's Note - Wait mate, if the new owners are mega rich then they will want Elland road to be full and maybe offer a reduced rate. I don't know if existing members would get any money back, but I would take the hit for a full house every week and promotion.}

Don't want to P*** on peoples fireworks as I am an avid LUFC supporter as well but Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has remained in Dubai carrying out his duties as leader of the UAE throughout the whole takeover saga, now I am not for one minute suggesting he himself would come over to England to thrash out talks with Bates in a deal as I know he has many representatives throughout the world who would and could do this for him, but my contact in Dubai seems to think he has denied being interested in any sporting team in any other country other than Dubai. I hope I and my contact is wrong but on the information I have I feel we will be looking at a different owner than the aforementioned.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Why do people come on here and say:

I don't want to pi$$ on... etc...

and then go straight ahead and do it?

I've spoken to you before about your own contacts( obviously don't want you to divulge your contacts) But is there anything that you've heard whoever small that you could whet our appetites with ?? Waiting with baited breath cheers ED...wingy Mk MOT for life!! {Ed013's Note - Trust me mate, even the players are in the dark. They have been told that there are good times ahead, but by what means they are unsure. My own opinion lies with it can't be long now as I believe this has been going on a while. You have to hand it to Leeds if they pull this off with all of the secrecy and if it is a mega rich new owner that has the club and fans at heart then Mr Bates deserves a little credit for going about it the way he has. If this doesn't come off then Elland Road will be empty next season and Mr Bates will look very silly!}

who really cares if we sell
mccormack for 2.5 mil
clayton for 1-2 mil
snoddy for 4-8 mil
white leaves and we receive 1-1.5 mil

we will have 8.5 mil and 6m investment and any turnover profit atleast to replace these players if needed. i believe there are much better players than these out there . of course this is if this takeover actually hurry's
up and goes through.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

I agree there are better players out there, but im not sure of your lofty valuations. 2.5 mill for Rosco? more like £800k to 1mil. {Ed013's Note - The 2.5 million comes from his release clause. He will go for a lot less than that}

Can't bring myself to believe after 40 years following Leeds, with all the ups and downs weve had (let alone all the toil our club has been through in the decades before I was born and became a fan) on the brink of absolutely everything changing beyond recognition.
My only fear is that it's like Xmas when you dreamt of a brand new 'mag wheeled' BMX only to wake up on Xmas day to some sh*t hybrid bike from Arg*s. Better off than before but not quite what dreamt of.

LATEST unconfirmed reports on the buyout of Leeds United are that investment “from the Middle East” is poised to arrive at Elland Road after an unnamed group agreed in principle a deal to purchase the club.

The buyers are said to see manager Neil Warnock – back today from a week’s holiday and under contract until the end of next season – as integral to their immediate plans.

Warnock is said to have been offered assurances about his position as he resumes his search for likely transfers.

i bet if/when we get taken over mccormack and white will want to stay at the club, which i think is disgusting having not heard from them, at least snoddy has said he will wait to see what happens with the team before going to prem.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Didn't know that White and McCormack were personal friends of yours, must be quite disappointing for you not to have heard from them?

Look mate, no news is good news as far as I'm concerned, although with you being personal mates of them I am surprised you don't already know where they're headed then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Snoddy was gonna say something as hes captain. mccormack wants to stay but wage rise not good enough same with white . its football and all players are out for the best deal they can get and why shouldn't they + bates is a tight get and probably only offered £500 on top of there usual wage

Agree0 Disagree1

Warnock may tell them were to go

Agree1 Disagree0

I wouldn't say no to a 26 grand pay rise (500 per week for a year)

Agree1 Disagree0

Snodgrass has always said there's no rush - at least for him. He still has a year on his contract and he's not the one pushing? Warnock has offered him more money (already) to stay, and that may or may not get increased if there is a takeover.

If this doesn't come off though, I think Snodgrass might realise we are still pulling in some half decent players and go with it - I hope he signs a contract though, to safeguard the trust Warnock is putting in him, if not he may be out at xmas anyway while he's still worth something to us financially.

long time reader of the site and have to say i love it!
one thing iv never understood and please if anyone can enlighten me please do...Leeds is a city bigger than manchester and except birmingham the biggest outside of london, correct me if im wrong? so with 1 football team in our great city that is forever growing why have we never been subject to a big takeover like man city? if you go to any game leeds away fans are the loudest and proudest! with the size of our city that is bigger than liverpool who have 2 clubs and bigger than manchester that have 2 clubs then with a stadium big enough and success surely we have the potential to be the biggest club in england and pull more fans in from round the world! rant over lol

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Leeds is historically a rugby and cricket town

Agree1 Disagree2

No, manchester and birmingham are bigger.

Agree0 Disagree3

They probably have been offers over the yrs since we got rid of most of our debt but bates liked to p**s us off and refused to sell for less than 100 mil but now has decided enough is enough and will accept a reduced fee of 40 mil

Agree0 Disagree1

Hi, it depends on how bigger is defined. Birmingham is a bigger city in area and population, Manchester is bigger in area, but not population.
p.s. It is argued by some that Manchester has one team, as MUFC are in Trafford, a borough.

tRip

Agree1 Disagree0

Leeds is the 3rd largest city in the UK according to the most commonly accepted system of measurement. Manchester is the 9th largest and is smaller than Leeds in every respect. People often confuse Manchester with Greater Manchester (a county, like West Yorkshire) and forget that Salford is a city in its own right - some people think of it as an area within Manchester.

Measuring a city's population is a point for debate - is Wetherby's population part of Leeds for example - but in terms of political boundaries the top 10 list is, I believe, London, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Sheffield, Bradford,
Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol. Some measurements put Liverpool and Glasgow ahead of Leeds but Manchester is always well below.
