If you held the purse strings but run a sensible business what would you do?

Place funds in a manager who cannot pledge support to anyone he brings in, as he is will be retiring.

Hold funds to put in the hands of a new manager in June who will build long term.

Trust in the current squad to 'maintain' the position until the end of season.

Invest a minimum to protect the position or 'squeeze' a playoff spot.

Make a managerial change now and start the building process now.

Throw the money in now and gamble for premier league now.

Ē lots of options and probably lots more

I post this as a life long fan of 47 years - of which my over riding memory is not the glory days but rather, the more recent fear of a day when lufc doesn't exist.

My message is:

Ambition is great, aspiration is fantastic - Leeds fans, through and through show that like no others!

Please remember:

What is the true cost of over-ambition? It's not that long ago.

I want Thursday to be a positive influx of talent and a sensible farewell to faithful servants to lufc.

My final point - which I hope the faithful to this site understand:

We Leeds fans debate our club, for the right reasons and for the right challenges. However we have always been a united front to the rest of the planet!

But not here!

We are infighting in public - not good, not good at all!

The next 24 hours IMHO will say it all about gfh tbh I can't believe they have left it this late to bring any one in I'm hoping for 3 quality players not players just to make the numbers up the playoffs are still on if the right players arrive if not then I don't know what to think about the future sorry if I seem down but previous experience and previous excuses just seem to be in my memory. De ja vu hopefully not all will be revealed in just over 24 hours

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Last minute in jan is typical for deals going through, can't blame gfh for that...or would you prefer bates back in charge?!

A lot of people judging Morrison already on his goals per game ratio, it's not too dissimilar to LB and a lot of gamesat a similar level, remember league 1. I think you have to judge players on the feeling you get when you are watching them! And Morrison used to scare me every time he played against Leeds. I'm not sure too many teams feel like that about LB, well maybe boro!

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Rumour has it that Morrison has failed medical

Well tomorrow is the deadline and I see the OS is full of news about transfers in!. Watch it on Friday for all the usual drivel about unrealistic wage demands, players having their heads turned by agents, and of course, our most recent excuse, the financial fair play rules. Bates is still there pulling the strings. Nothing has changed. All of you who think GFH are playing it smart by not investing while Warnock is in charge are deluded I'm afraid. By the way I really hope I'm wrong!!

Believable6 Unbelievable10

Oh its ok fella, you are wrong.

Tomorrow is when everything happens. Warnock looks a done deal sorting our LB issue, Morison will be our new long ball target and the extra money from becchio will part fund at least one other. I am assuming haribo will be brought in and used as a winger. Maybe even Dinane (cant remember his name) will be a squad player like Grey.

That and the deadwood gone is a hell of a lot better than anything Bates brought in so chill out and watch the OS over the next 24 hrs.

Agree4 Disagree3

Get it now! That was sarcasm. Just dived straight to OS to see all the 'ins' news.
Must have just suffered a bout of 'transfer lag'

Agree5 Disagree1

30 Jan 2013 21:05:50
Is Morison better than becchio ?i doubt it especially when we are getting money as well.
Becchio gets 19 goals in half a season .
Morison gets 10 in 53 games .
They might put as much effort in as each other in a game but we are needing to replace at least 20 goals a season so for me Morison is more of a sub .

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Mccormack is your 20 goals a season. He just hasn't had the games this year as a striker. Morrison is your tall fella for long balls when you change your style of play when its suits the opposition.

I agree that we could do with someone else though. Someone ideally young and fast (Poleon isn't ready yet but Wells at Bradford would be interesting).

Agree9 Disagree1

30 Jan 2013 21:03:16
If Becchio falls through => no Morrison and cash =>no Habibou and unlikely Warnock.=> no meaningful transfers and no promotion.

Plan be might be the $300K and $500K deals touted... with recent payroll reductions and a total out lay of 1Meg... but they're not the scale needed.

You'd a thought GFH would have have come with at least a 3Meg float for the kitty.

Abramovic drops 10Meg when he sneezes.

That said, if you look at GFH web-site... ermmm... its kinda "inexpensive" shall we say.

Morrison will be a great signing was most dangerous player on pitch every time he's played against us really impressive in championship and first year in prem ch norwich manager must not fancy him only made 4 starts this term. Few more like him and who knows

Believable7 Unbelievable3

30 Jan 2013 19:25:29
Some negative and positive comments about Morison, I myself rate him highly, imo he's a much better player than Becchio. Looked a top player at Millwall and not featured too much at Norwich. I would take a straight swap anyday. Warnock is a good LB too and these two players have PL experience which is priceless, come on NW get them over the line, these two plus a surprise tomorrow night is what i'm thinking. Vinny.

Surely McCormack should be given a chance now in his preferred position and not played out wide, he's a prov.en goal scorer, we need more quality out wide

Rosco is much better than becchio up top tbh always looks likely to score just need austin and green to help chip with goals aswell

On twitter it seems very clear the deal (Becchio to Norwich, with Morison coming to Leeds with a nice £1m) is very very possible! I would prefer Ebanks-Blake but I won't be complaining as Morison is well experienced and proven at Championship level!
On another note there are whispers of Matt Phillips (Blackpool) joining us... the possible icing on the cake, and what NW was saying by wait until the end of the window before you judge it. However extremely doubtful, but a boy can wish I suppose!

does anyone think that if we tell norwich, leeds reserves, that sean harvey is doing a great job for us do you think they will want to take him as well. because I would love that. because he works so so hard but never clinches any deals. and it does seem as though norwich want whoever does well for us. they are just signing are league 1 promotion winning side which I don't get because they were better than us in league 1. but ye lets give them sean so we don't have to put up with lurpak anymore because he'll be down in suffolk. another thing is if harvey was at norwih they wudn't sign any more of our players because he wudn't be able to

have heard all about the proposed swap / +cash deal with becchio going to norwich, with thier top scorer coming our way as part of the deal. well surely that must be holt and not morison who has only started four games. perhaps not though as he has started tonight. leeds missed out when holt left shrewsbury a few years ago. can't see a holt / becchio partnership as both similar type target man. I would still prefer holt though, will run through walls. worth a punt.

I was pi**ed off about Bechio going and sort of had calmed down when I thought he was going abroad. Then Wigan...git my head round that too, but then this has really done it Norwich Johnson, Snoddy Howson and now Bechio!! How has this been allowed to happen? because as sure as apples is apples Norwich will be paying LUFC next season in the championship and all four of them will be playing against us at elland road, it will be absolute hell to watch.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

What the hell difference does it make where players who want to leave sign for?, Howsons provng to be a duck egg who many Leeds fans thought he would be, he aren't premier league standard, think Becchio will struggle as well being up against better players, Norwich are buying championship players, and that's where theyll end up.

Agree4 Disagree0

Snoddgrass will not be at Norwich if they go down he'll definitely be signed by another prem team, other 3 we can deal with, don't worry we still have a certain Mr Sam Byram who is twice the player of at least 3 of them and he will go on to do great things for this club and so will tom lees!

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Jan 2013 19:45:41
Well, I for one think that this deal with Norwich could be a master stroke by n.w. Morrison is fantastic and proven at this level, so with him and cash we are laughing!up there wwith the eto vs ibrahamovic swap, business wise, not player wise.
Well down warnock, I hope that people start to get off your back now.

On another note I really feel for tge man who lost 500k because of the early whistle. I've been counting it as a 3-1 all week to be honest.non leeds fans think i'm crazy.

The ticket arrangements for the man city game are outrageous. I understand season ticket holders who go to all away games getting priority and also fans who go to three or more but the fact that a member gets the same priority as a season ticket holder who pay through the roof is ridiculous! As a season ticket holder for many years who manages to get to a few away games every now and then I am not just outraged that I won't be able to get a ticket but disappointed with the club for having this tickets system that stops people who have followed the club through its up and downs gets pushed to the bottom of the pile. Ridiculous! {Ed013's Note - Put yourself in a fans position that can only go to away games and spend a lot of money travelling and then get told a season ticket holder gets to go to this 1 game where the fan that travels to away games misses out. Some fans prefer away games and dedicate their lives to them. I think it is very fair and if you have attended the few games that you have away I am fairly confident you will get a ticket}

Believable6 Unbelievable2

That's not a justification at all s/t holders pay up front before a ball is kicked for the running etc. of the club. i believe that the home team keeps their cash so all the away cash in the world won't put one penny into the leeds bank, i've gone home and away for years and expect to be given priority because i've paid weather i go or not, unlike the 'i won't pay bates another penny' brigade who simply stop going and keep their cash. {Ed013's Note - If it was a home game then ST get priority, like you said, the away team benefit for the cash so why should a home ST holder get priority if they haven't attended an away game? I am fairly confident that most ST holders will go, but which ever way Leeds do this it will upset someone. As a season ticket holder myself, I think this is fair}

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed - understand the point you are making with regard to ticket allocation but completely disagree. Season ticket holders are the life blood of any clubs fa base and as such any business would prioritise the retention of these "customers". I am no more important than any other Leeds fan but I do expect some perks for forking out for a season ticket. That said, to all those who do get a ticket. Have a great night and make us proud supporting the boys! {Ed013's Note - I agree with what you are saying, but as soon as a big club is in the draw everyone wants to go, it would be a kick in the teeth for those that have gone to the other away games. There are 6100 tickets, not every Leeds fan will go so come Wed morning get in there quick and get your seat. The fans that support the team away from home are still important to the club and probably end up paying more than our ST}

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm the s/t holder from pev. reply yes i know cup games are split 3 ways ? i'm talking as a who;e i pay unconditionally up front with no promise of a fair return i've hitched, walked, train, bus, and don't say i'm a better supporter than the bloke who comes once a season from dublin or scotland i'm saying i promise my money to leeds and expect asome return for my cash, you my friend speak from emotion. i queued all night years ago when tickets went on sale after season ticket holders took their share sorry pal now it's my turn. {Ed013's Note - The policy has changed from a few years back. As a season ticket holder you give your money, time, dedication and loyalty to Leeds United at home. The one's that go away are giving their loyalty to Leeds in that respect and its not a case of who is the better fan its a case of being fair as this is an away game against the Premier League Champions and demand will be high. You are entitled to your opinion as is everyone and I suggest you get in touch with Leeds with your complaint at SLOcomplaints@Leedsunited.com}

Agree0 Disagree0

You missed my point I'm not complaining, far from it, the season ticket holders have earned the right to take priority when we are limited with ticket and being a season s/t holder dose'nt mean we don't travel on the contrary many s/t holders do. I do not doubt there are many very loyal fans home and away, I know many myself and as loyal as they are fans, it dos'nt make a case for priority tickets, this is just a poor argument and I know that some will be tickets for the boys, I would assume you have a s/t ? and would give your seat over to a fellow fan who claims to travel to away games. You assume old doe'snt work. Ask s/t holders who would lose out to some fans who never go to away games. Do you really think anybody who can't make the game would pass the ticket back to the club to sell to a more deserving fan or simply pass it to one of the lads who may never go ?

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2013 18:46:16
Have you seen the ticket allocation for the Man city FA Cup game - its a farce!!
away fans have been great, but why give so much for away loyalty.
The ticket allocation is 6100 - they'll go straight away to away fans - what about season ticket holders?? {Ed013's Note - I think it is very fair and rightly so if fans are going to the most away games they should get first refusal. I am sure if you were in their shoes and missed out to a season ticket holder that hadn't gone all season you would be annoyed}

It really does my head in when I look at 'websites' and still see that nobody has signed for us! Especially with tomorrow being the last day of the transfer window.

I see players we were linked with on here who have moved elsewhere.....

I see our own players being released or sold on or loaned out to other sides........

So where are the players signing for us??? My nerves are going to be on edge summat rotten tomorrow.

We really need 3-4 players, in positions previously stated by most on here. I hope to god we get them!

Some of the Spurs players were so impressed with what they saw, both on the ground and around the City last weekend that they decided to stay.

Am not naming names... but Gareth Bale also muttered something about his "heritage" and there being "lots of sheep 'round hyer" as he walked on to Briggate looking for somewhere to buy some wellington boots.

Upside for GB and others is they'd only need their mams to buy 'em some white shorts and they've already got something approximating the first team kit.

You know what guys I'm starting to think that we may have already signed a few players. It would be a smart move not telling anyone. If clubs saw that we could actually afford players (right now I'm sure everyone thinks we're skint) they would bump up prives, especially on the last day of the transfer window. Warnock may now be looking for the 'icing on the cake' we've heard about for ages, and doesn't want to fork out too much. Think about it, we've only signed 2 players who were already with us on the cheap, and a loan signing would hardly cost anything. You're telling me that GFH are waiting till the last day with inflated prices to buy everyone?

Or maybe I'm just dreaming!

{Ed013's Note - What is your name withe reference to (Foxrat)? Just an honest question as there is a Leicester fan on the football site that uses the same and I nearly got you mixed up when you first started posting}
In answer to your question ED, my name is Paul Fox born in Wakefield now living amongst the cod 'eds on missionary work, go to as many away games as possible and some home games, was a season ticket holder for 15 years till I moved over here and with work commitments couldn't get to ER, Leeds fan since birth went with my dad to watch the old greats of Billy, Jack, Johnny etc then started going with the Middleton Arms to away days ( scary times ), moved down south but still went to the games as often as possible, eventually moved back to Wakefield and then onto the east riding where I still reside.
That's it ED you know virtually my life story apart from the intimate bits but then why would you want to know that.

Excellent site, I can't remember the last time I missed a day, keep up the good work.

In interview, Colin commented, "Well OK OK, I know people will get a bit upset... easy mistake... but the price was right weren't it and he passed the physical... OK... an abbreviated physical where he just had to run to the snack bar and back... and I guess we woz a bit stunned when he then reached for a tinny and a pack of woodbines out of his backpack and asked if he could have a bit of a kip as he were right $#@gged out... but he's a nice lad is our Bailsy and tells some right cracking dirty jokes which will help at half time in the dressing room. Top draw stuff. Top draw."

This is Colin's first major signing. GFH directors indicated they "we're satisfied that we're making strides in our hiring program with some prudent signings and Mr Bails will be an asset as he has already demonstrated an ability to restock the snack fridge should we run out of prawn sarnies during a game."

Meanwhile, Jonesy has gotten his Missus to buy the extra spam required to cope with impending change in food distribution should the rumoured star signing of Becks go through.

Construction teams and representative from Air Traffic Control were also seen headed to the recently acquired 22 Park Crescent adding to the speculation.

no signings yet i'm getting a little worried. Warnock said judge after the window closes. Well it closes tomorrow and i'm concerned about deals being done Warnock taking too long, becchio in or out and if he stays will he be motivated, what happened with gradel/morison.

All that seems to have happened so far is get rid of dead wood which is beginning to leave us a little thin on the ground

Are bloody Nawich having a laugh at our EXPENSE. Steve Morison plus cash for Becchio. WTF!! SH needs shooting as his business strategy stinks. They need to pay us a lot more money and throw in either Jackson or Holt for me. I don't know why they want Becchio anyway as I personally think that holt is a far far better player. they get on my god damn nerves and I hope they get relegated!!

Holt is a beter play

I'd sooner take a dump than take another Norwich player. All we get form them are cast offs when we give our talent. they don't even rate Howson anymore. #whyaminotsurprised. {Ed013's Note - I can't really remember Leeds taking many Norwich players, it seems to be the other way around}

Drury ed? {Ed013's Note - Any more?}

i think we already have players signed up just not been announced .maybe 5 players

Agree1 Disagree2

To those who disagree. What as changed then?

Agree3 Disagree0

Signed diouf to longer contract.
Extended loan deals of player nw wanted
cheaper ticket prices
Reintroduction of half season tickets. In my eyes they are doing what they need to so far and will do deals before window shuts. I think we will have so words.from gfh wen window shut identifying long term plans. Sum people expect everything instantly with massive name signings. Get real. Dannylufc

Agree3 Disagree3

Well talk about being hood winked and easy to please. What I'm talking about is class players for us that are old enough to remember the good old days. Diouf, short of pace. Tickets should be cheaper anyway, premiership prices for championship football. Get real, and yes I do expect everything, because I'm paying for it. And as for plans, the takeover took long enough to have plans in place.

Agree2 Disagree0

On a brighter note I really hope i'm wrong and I hope we have transfers in place. Think the fans deserve more and I have good intentions. Just used to the bates era and let downs. sorry for being negative butttt............................

the players I would like to see come in would be to build for the future and promotion next year. I would still hope to ahieve promotion this year however. I would have the following targets on my radar. I don't mean buy each one of them either (admittedly it may take some wonga to get them)

Keeper - I don't think we need a replacement, I actually think Ashdown should be No.1

Defenders - S Warnock, Curtis Davies, Majid Bougherra

Midfielders - Nathan Redmond, Dan Gosling*, Graham Dorrans, Max Gradel, Ben Watson*, Chris Burke

Attackers - Matt Phillips, David Templeton*, George Boyd, Lee Chun Ho* (that guy at Bolton)

* - Maybe difficult and/or pricey.

I know this is just a fantasy but I don't think I have listed any or haldly any players that couldn't be bought. In all honestly I think we are missing a trick with Chris Burke and George Boyd. Both available and look likeley to be sold for less than 1 million. Even Nathan Redmond can be bought as Brum need the money. It just all seems too quite from leeds at the moment. going on history, we always seem to sign people that we are not publicly linked with. We will see. MOT regards

Anyone remember as we edged towards January 2013 Warnock coming out and saying he wanted his business done quickly so he can move on with getting the team organised, jesus, 2 days to go and still no nearer to knowing who is and isn't going to be with us come midnight Thursday. I don't mind Warnock as manager but jeez I feel anything that comes out of his mouth must be taken with a pinch of salt, seems like he is always the architect of his own downfall. I know there is still time to get these players in but getting it done 'quickly' to me would suggest in the first week we'd have the majority sorted out, seems like we haven't even touched the surface of what was expected. Warnock speaks his mind that's all - he probably did want everything in place the first week of january, and has since, simply found out that he wasn't able to...We are Leeds now Warnockos he is realizing that everything allways seems to be more difficult for us than everybody else !

Can I say how pleased I am that GFH have not come in and thrown silly money at our club, Yes I agree we need some investment but would rather this be done on solid foundations.
I personally think they have done ok so far, my only criticism would be the lake of info for the future plans.

I do not want LUFC to be come another Cheski or City, I want to see homegrown players or pre-madonas any day
