Just read that Pearson sacked by Leicester, does that put our deal for Wood on hold until another manager is in place? That's if he was going to join us at all. Oh well onwards and upwards!

Have we still got ant? Or has he moved on due to not getting his goal tally needed? If he's still with us and we get wood could be good pairing up front?

He's still with us Posh lad.

Let's hope Mr Cellino shows a bit of decorum and doesn't burst into the press conference tomorrow shouting he's got wood! Can see it happening though and maybe another FA charge for indecency.

If we sell Sam Byram then firstly I wish him all the best. I think he is solid rather than brilliant and feel we should accept any bid around £5-8 million
As regards a replacement, I think Berardi will improve and perhaps buy Darikwa as cover.
I think Chris Wood would be a good signing especially if we get two wingers. It is being reported that a deal to bring Brandon Barker from Citeh on shear long loan is close and maybe Maguire from the Blades.
Fingers crossed MOT.

If Chris wood (not woods!) is going to sign then the fact we beat off other clubs, paid £2m has to be a great sign for our club.

I know we all have short memories (sorry what was I going to say. oh yeah) but just remember this time last year, or this time the year before and we are in a very good place.
sure we won't get everyone we go for but the mere fact we will be able to pay good money for people has to be a positive.

Chris Wood at 23, tall, can lead a line and score has to be worth a punt, exactly the type of player we need. That winger from Sheff Utd also right kind of player ( I would let sharpe + Morrison go).

Re the posts on Sam/youngsters etc. Sam looked better for me going forward last year as a pure full back he is OK but can we replace him? answer is yes I would think so. Any price above 5m for this type of player in last year of contract in championship you have to take really, I would rather keep him but you can see the business sense.

Keeping cook is a no brainer, he should be even better this year. Alex M got better this year, I have no really rated him as much as most seem to (season before last he seemed to be fairly slow, got tired early in games and sometimes seemed like he was running in sand). Last season he was better in these aspects so again keep him for sure but look at contract renewal (even if he has say a £6m buy out clause worth doing), we can't allow our best players to get into their last year as that makes no business sense.

I know its hot today but I really think the sun is going to shine on us this season if we keep doing what we have been in the last 2-3 months. Our football structure is in place, we have the opportunity (and cash) to get 3-4 good players to add to a core part of the team which is pretty good i.e.(Cook/Mowatt/Bamba/silvestri/Bryam/C Taylor).

Think they would get in most championship teams, add wood to that list when he signs (done deal according to most web gurus) and that is 7, 2 more quality signings and my god we have a potential top 6 team.

Phew maybe I have sun stroke with all this cheeriness, need a beer.

I agree DG and was saying the same thing about Byram further down. I'd add Berardi and Murphy to that list though.

Fair point re Berardi, forgot about him he looks a good player and a old school defender which is no bad thing to have in ya team.

Murphy I still have questions on which is why never counted him, he has potential, shows bits of class now and then, maybe the manager can get more out of him, let's see how he does in say first 10 -15 games.

So is it Woods or Wood, didn't quite catch that.

Murphy was our hardest working player towards the end of last season. The system we are empoying this season will suit him down to the ground.

very good article and I agree, I don't mind bryam but think he is overrated and since his first season has been up and down form wise and sometimes looked either dis-interested or just not that great (average at best). I would sell for anything around or over 5 mill mark, he will not make prem and maybe with a buy back clause if he flops and we don't go up. We need a forward a winger (or three) and another decent CB. The players we can not afford to lose are cook and mowatt and I would say our keeper (and of course morrision). People linked us with woods but would need a couple of wingers otherwise he would be a waste of money bit like sharp last season. Think this will be a big year for Ant who I have always thought was class and could do job in prem

Good post. I don't think Byram is overrated and is solid and dependable but if a decent bid comes in we would be better of taking the money as the post suggests. With a fee muted to be anywhere between £5 and £8 million, we could improve the squad considerably more than one player adds. Beradi improved a lot towards the end of last season and could make the right back slot his own. I think the only sticking pint with a lot of fans is the signal this sends out with a lot saying we shouldn't sell out best players if we're looking to get promoted. I agree but if we improve the squad as a result which will give us a better chance of promotion, then I'm all for it.

{Ed001's Note - surely Cook and Mowatt are the priority to hold onto in terms of best players?}

30 Jun 2015 10:06:25
I disagree. I would rather Byram than mowatt. I think good defenders are hard to find and I think he will prove a hit in the prem league. Mowatt is a great player too but easier to replace. Having said that. If Byram won't resign. Then sell now. $6 mill plus for me. I don't watch Leeds much but the 5-6 games I saw last year. Byram was the best on the pitch except goalie.

Pertinent post ed. I am against selling our best home grown players, But, If we ever do, the time and conditions have to be right. I guess Sam is not integral to the team, has only a year left on his contract, can command a good price and his place be covered. The money can be used to strengthen. I guess its a no brainer really!

30 Jun 2015 12:36:21
Can't agree Aus. I really think losing Mowatt would make a bigger difference to us.
IMO put him in the Arsenel team tomorrow and he would be in the next England squad, I think he is that good.
By the way MM, 'sticking pint' you really can't get booze off your mind can you? :-)

laughed about mm's pint and have to agree, think bryam is not great and easy to replace (you could argue we already have replacement) I honestly think mowatt is the new lampard (yes could be almost that good) lamps was bit slow and unfit at first also got better in role as it is hard role to learn. Mowatt has all the ability and time to become almost as good. Mowatt must be worth 10-15 million in current market as goal scoring midfielders are hard to come by. also can't think of anyone who could replace him in our league (not too many who could replace in any league come to think of it) cook as well anything less than 20 million and we have been robbed cook is real class

I can't believe all the negative comments about Byram, we were a much more solid team last year when he played, I accept everybody has a price, however unless all of the money we receive for Byram is re invested we are only making ourselves a weaker side & as such decreasing our chances of promotion. As for Berardi he cannot tackle for toffee
