Cellino reckons he's confused about appointing a new manager, but why? I don't understand why he can't pick a manager but yet he picks 15 players for us!
Im starting to wonder how much importance he puts on the managers roll at our club.

Why not just leave it as it is?

Sick of how the media are potraying the current state of affairs at Leeds. A certain sport radio station who like to talk are constantly digging, stating we are a club in crisis. Geoff Sterling taking swipes at Celino the other day. I live in Manchester and all my mates and work colleagues constantly ribbing and going on about this so called crisis. They are astonished when I reply positively. Yes Celino is a fruit and nut cake but he is passionate and cares about us and the club. 15 signings broight in all looking decent acquistions. McCormack for 11 mil which the more I think about it is just astonishing. Smith going was a shock but come on with our current set up he doesn't fit and he was still very raw. Hockaday was embarassing and a big mistake but Celino was man enough to nip in the bud and admit he made a mistake. Is it just me who feels positive and excited by our future. I was at ER for Bolton and I saw a good team coming together. We won't do much this year but I think the future looks good. Am I the only one? Yes we are going to lose and there will be plenty of downs but things were night and day a year ago compared to now. Let the media chat poo. Hopefully we can use this to bring us together. MOT

It looks like hunt may be going to the blunts on loan. I hope we won't be contributing to his wages. I used to rate the guy but he obviously hasn't got what it takes to play for a big club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What big clubs that then

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit unfair scoops. he's had bad luck with injuries and never got a run in the side. don't think he played more than 3 games on the trot as a starter. Sometimes its just not meant to be. No one can deny that he always tried and worked hard though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not unfair, reason he hasn't started more than three games on trot. not a championship player, he will be better off playing at his level (like barn door billy). when we was after hunt I hoped it was steven he was always the poor brother what phil was to gary, rod was to ray

Agree0 Disagree0

Bermondsey mate a bit unfair too. hunt has played for years as a championship player and at the top end of it as well.
OK, maybe we got him a few years too late. A shame because he was always a good footballer and a proper team player. Never a man to get 20 plus goals but a dozen goals and plenty of assists he did year in and out.
I know it sounds like i'm sticking up for him but I've always liked his attitude, unlike so many young pups nowadays. Just a pity he couldn't hit a barn door while in the white shirt!

Agree0 Disagree0

No I am ribbing a bit cork he was hard working great attitude and at his best was not a bad player

Just seen an article on six freebies we coul consider, got to admit I wouldn't mind seein short term deals for 4 of them, pennant, Etherington, yobo or eagles, think one or two would benefit our squad particularly Etherington saw him on soccer am seemed a decent bloke and good guy to have in the dressing room and think would still be a very good player at this level

Believable0 Unbelievable0

03 Sep 2014 21:25:00
I had a look at the list and the only one I would consider is Chris Eagles. Etherington has lost his pace and we have enough pedestrians as it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed003's Note - He also said on a radio station the other day he wants to stay living down south.}

We are trying to get rid of the has beens, good players in there day but past it or there abouts. I wouldn't wish for any of them on our books costing us money i'm afraid ;(

Agree0 Disagree0

None of them for me, stick with the youngsters, don't think we will do much this season or maybe even next, but keep this squad together for a couple of seasons with 1 or 2 quality signings in the next transfer windows and who knows, when we get back to the promised land we might be ready for it, stability for me, we can't sign 15 every summer, although have enjoyed this window! Our manager and his assistant had a fantastic window.Great deals done.Thank God he has a financial interest in the club or someone might come in for him.
The best coach for Leeds already works for the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The more I think about it, the more I'd give Redders a go. He's Leeds through & through, he's developing gems in the Academy & he's working for us already.
The only caveat, is that if it doesn't work out, he gets demoted & not sacked. MOT

Agree0 Disagree0

With redders think it is too early to say. personally I would give him five to ten games and see how things go. I would have him back as youth team if it doesn't work out as no1. not sure he should get job but think he deserves a chance

Agree0 Disagree0

IMO I think he should be left in charge of the kids. Putting Redders in the front line for 5-10 games just creates more uncertainty amongst the squad. I would like MC to go all out for Steve Clarke, if not him then a coach that the squad knows is the permanent coach, or is until MC decides to swing the axe!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Sep 2014 21:21:48
I think there genuine reasons for giving Redders a chance.

1. He will give the kids a chance

2. He knows the club and the traditions

3. The change in the team last week payed instant dividends both in style of play and result. Not the best performance overall but massive improvement

4. He could instigate another O'Leary's babes type situation.

He is not manager material but he knows that himself but there is no doubt he is a good coach.

Having said all that, there is one thing though. I'm not buying this "i'm confused" rubbish. What's that all about? If there is one person who knows exactly what he is doing in all this it is MC.

Agree0 Disagree0

MC says he is confused about the number of coaches contacting him regarding the vacancy. I hope that he has his salt pot well out of the way when choosing from the multitude. There won't be a decision this week as he's away in the States but I just hope that he ring. fences the money from Smiths sale to get a decent manager/coach and then commit to that choice and put his trigger finger away so that a team can be built to move us forward. I can see us lurching from one unknown poor choice to another over the next couple of years and we need some stability.

I agree that Redders would be of most benefit to the club not being head coach and therefore not under constant pressure of being fired, saying that who in their right mind would want to work under those conditions unless they're just there for a quick pay day.

Agree0 Disagree0

All managers work under that pressure any coach loses 4 out of five would be under pressure its the way with every job. if that was the case no one would manage. only job you can win one in six and be ok is the england job it would seem

Agree0 Disagree0

Gordon Strachan and Gary Mac for me; let's see them bring back the good times :o)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Two great players two bad managers. no thanks for me

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no managers job available, they would both make great coach's

Agree0 Disagree0

Both have failed everywhere they have gone? how do people know they would make great coaches? the teams I have seen them coach have all been poor. can people please stop saying they make great coaches with no way of knowing if true. Coaches/managers should be judged on one thing results. both of them bring poor results and shame to see great players get booed for not being good enough off the pitch

The negativity around Social Networks baffles me, we've made 15, yes, FIFTEEN signings, but because we couldn't close a final deadline day deal some fans feel hard done by, when the reality is we have never had a transfer window like this EVER.

Wrongly or rightly, in my opinion rightly, we have had a squad overhaul, because let's be honest, finishing 15th last season clearly wasn't good enough.

So we sold our best player, we sold him for money we could only dream of these past 9 seasons, we have a president who won't take crap from anybody, least of all the players. He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he doesn't do being ripped off, and rightly so.

Granted, our on field performances have been, erm. well, below average to say the least, but with this new influx of quality (Adryan, Sloth etc. ) we can only hope things on that front will turn around, although I am expecting a few games to get to know each other, before results start going our way.

On the coach front, yes, Cellino made a bad error in appointing Hockaday in the first place, and I feel, despite our results that he was treated inexcusably during his tenure, but we will move on, a coach isn't always the be all and end all of a team, the players should be playing for the fans and the club not the coach or the president.

These are just my thoughts, I am sure many have differing opinions.

MOT

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We have been productive in the transfer market and hopefully we can get the right man to get the team playing well. Personally from what I have seen so far Silvestri has been a good buy. It's early days and the team are going to need time to gel, but Warnock brought in plenty of players when he arrived and we know how most of them turned out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post Sussex, agree and its clear we are in a potentially good place as a club more than we have been since prem days or league 1 team that came up. So no need to moan too much I would say.

Final piece of the jigsaw is the coach/manager and they do make a difference, potentially a big difference in the team so if (may be a big if) MC gets that right as well then we would have an outside chance of top 6 or am I dreaming again??

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post

Agree0 Disagree0

Like your post Sussex - good stuff. Some great business bringing players in - the trick now will be shuffling the pack to draw out the most productive and efficient team. Didn't agree with selling Matt Smith, and would have preferred to have preferred to have seen some of the dross shown the door, but maybe Hunt, Austin etc will get loaned out when the window opens. Biggest concern is bringing in a good coach who is prepared to work with and for MC. Still a lot to get right, but signs are a lot more encouraging than this time last year. MOT!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with every word Sussex. Good post

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with post. no the glory days are not back but signs are they could be here soon. I think with the right manager we could easily go up this year. only a few games in and seem to have enough quality players and right coach could get us up there this year. think how many teams have come from no-where to go up in the last few years (reading and palace spring to mind but sure there are more) come on mc get the most important signing (the coach) right and we will be on motd next year

Not seen much of him to be honest but if rumours are right that he lost the dressing room at Watford that worries me BIG TIME.

I've got a left field one for new coach for you - Patrick Kluivert. Looking to get into coaching (currently being mentioned for the Ross County job), would be able to live near his friend and mentor Van Gaal, has all the experience you could wish for, and more importantly for MC would be cheap as is looking to get into coaching. What do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think in the future Kluivert would make an excellent coach, well respected and I imagine would advocate positive passing football, but I feel at the moment we need a tried and tested coach who knows the English game.

How about Aspin from Halifax just a thought he seems to be doing a good job there but would still like Clarke

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good shout and I'd make Redders his number 2.

Anyone know if we can still expect a new coach being appointed this week, I think cellino could be waiting to see how redfern does in the next game. I'd rather he got on with his job at the acadamy and we got some one new. For me steve clarke or beppe sannino would be good, maybe sannino would be best as we have quite a few players who have come over from italy, though of course clarke worked with lots of foreign players at chelsea

After reading today's YEP about Smith leaving, is any one else concerned that Smith was given a new contract only to be told 3 days later he wasn't part of the first team plans. While I agree Smith as a player won't be missed I am very concerned that the decision to give him a new contract appears to have been a knee jerk reaction, if this is the case how many similar decisions are being made regarding the signing of new players. We need stability as a club, no one in their right mind at the moment will won't to be part of Cellino's master plan if this is how he runs a football club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

As Smiths contract was in the final year, his value would have been diminished significanly. By getting him on a longer term deal, it increased his sale value (probably doubled it).

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Smith was sold because he thought he had Pavoletti in - he could still come in as a loan. But I know what you mean, can't be any more difficult bosses to work for than MC

Well, Eventful transfer window, and something i'm optimistic about. I'm seeing negativity on Twitter today about this, that and the other, and I understand where its coming from. 12 years of being shafted, and I constantly feel optimistic at a start of a season and let down. Which obviously people turn into anger

however, looking at the ins and outs, nobody has been sold to a team who you would think has a promotion chance. Fulham, may think they were favourites, but whatever Magath is doing isn't working. So in my eyes, you can see the issues we were having, no body was getting better, or was not upto the standard. So MC buying players with an average age of 23, and players who have a lot of potential (Adryan) surely cannot be a bad thing?

Let this season take shape, get a manager in, and let's start enjoying our FOOTBALL team, not a hoofball team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure that is correct mattmiles1991!
Both Forest, Derby and Middlesboro managers recently said how surprised they have been by improvement in Owls performances this year and expect them to be thereabouts come April. The quality of football has even shocked us fans.
You've perhaps not noticed the excellent reports on Tom Lees, who, paired alongside the experienced Glen Loovens, has been outstanding so far.

Ahh let's give Sleaford the benefit of the doubt, so I visit ssncentre who give you a min by min report on the match, YES min by min (feel free to take a look) Weds v Forest 99 mins Tom Lees got mentioned how many times?
