Good to see that Mr Pulis is giving his first team defence a runout on a very heavy pitch in Newport, and they're getting a bit of a battering 😁.

Shame isn’t doesn’t look like they are good enough to win extra time! Two forwards limped off as well no?

Looks like poor old Boro were well beat 😁 check Newport's second goal on the BBC website, hope Bub has seen it.

Assombalonga and Hugill both off injured, players telling their own fans to eff off, two ways Saturday can go, they'll still be carp or they'll be Brazil (bit of an exaggeration for Boro I know)

All these pundits talking up Norwich's performance, all trying to rub salt in the wounds and gloat. We bossed that first half with a weakened team, did not convert our possession. They got 3 goals all with an element of good fortune. Think we lack a motivator in the Bremner Strachan and Jones mould . These type of players get that little bit extra out of players around them when tiredness and fatigues sets in. This is not MB's strength . That said a fully fit squad would give us enough . If we can get an attacking 3 of Roofe, Browne and rotating one from Hernandez, Clarke and Roberts behind a firing Bamford. With Philips holding alongside Foreshaw or Klich. With 2 fullbacks in form we can pick up the wins to get us home. Just need to regroup. Would sooner go through this patch now and come out of it than go into it for the last 10 or 12 games of the season.

Good post leeds1970 could really do with a voice on the pitch old Vinny would soon be sent off now days so I will take a strachan.

Good post 1970. But Norwich were excellent on the night even though things went their way. That’s football and as long as the lads don’t let this bad run effect confidence I fully expect a top two finish at worst.

Spot on 1970 👍.

06 Feb 2019 10:27:28
I think we were as good as them at least.
They were fortunate with the goals but our poor finishing was our undoing as is the norm.
When we play well we are the best in league but don’t reach those heights often enough and certainly don’t finish anywhere near enough. As I said before, if our conversion rate was as good as Brom or Norwich we would be 20 points clear by now.

I think we sometimes get hung up on the starting vs bench argument. With Bielsas style we should be using all three subs and I'd play both Roofe and Bamford during the game, leave Bielsa to decide who starts but I can see arguments for both approaches. Start with Bamford and Roofe to come on or vv. Just got a feeling that Bamford will get a goal on. Saturday. Everyone always worries about players returning!

I'd also have Brown on the bench, he is proving he's got a knack for scoring and late on, that could come in handy. His free kick at the death against Birmingham looked liked a soft goal but was actually quite a well worked goal.

Wex, it’s difficult when you’re watching him. I think he might have quite a laid back style and you are unsure whether he is, just relaxed, tired or absolutely knackered. I saw him at one under 23 game and I thought he look completely finished but he still got his act together and scored a goal! He’s not all over games and not sure he’s able to track back and cover as well as Bielsa might want, but he does seem to have the knack to get in the right place and make or score! Can’t be far off the bench!

I'd say misrepresentation of words but I said it last week Pontus could do with keeping his mouth shut.

05 Feb 2019 12:50:06
But probably agree with him. Tiredness is obviously creeping in. When I bemoaned lack of investment at the start of the season I was castigated by many here. I think its obvious now that we needed 1or2 additions. Can't say how disappointed we didn't invest a million in 2 loans till the end of the season.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 13:20:05
Wex Again you're wrong (I was correct) . We've discussed this before. Lack of investment worked until the winter window (we were top) . However, even I said a lack of investment in this window would probably cost us and be inexcusable by Radz. James would've sufficed but the Muppets (Radz and Orta) let him slip through fingers and they had the funds to do it! With good luck on our side, we might reach the playoffs and hopefully win the final.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 13:25:57
Pontus is calling out managerial muppetry. He's right to do so in my opinion. Better out than in. Ridsdale had his faults but at least he went for the kill when buying players (and goldfish sadly) and knew how to seal a deal. Radz is not a football person, yet.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 13:45:49
You can't blame Radz and Orta for the James deal not going through when Jenkins decided to take the mickey out of the owners.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 14:19:52
Jeez George it doesn't make a difference when the additions were made. It's the fact that they weren't made and the James saga is nothing compared to the fact Radz wouldn't invest a million in 2 good loans till the end of the season.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 14:46:17
Staff Disagree. Jenkins undoubtedly showed a distinct lack of class. Sending his own player on a 500 mile round trip goose chase then going dark with 4 and half hours left in the window. However, just because Jenkins was spineless doesn't mean Radz is blameless. Swansea clearly wanted money and up front during negotiations. Radz should've rammed it down their throat! When one player has been specifically identified as the keymaker, a player with goals and pace to replace an underperforming player in our own team with £150m+ on the line in terms of accessing the PL, then George's rule applies. You don't hang around and leave things to chance. You be assertive, commanding and finish what you started. Crude example but when a beautiful naked woman bending over, begging, consenting and ready, you don't ask her repeatedly what you do next. You just take charge. Radz should've decorated the table with millions in cash. He was going to put down £5m to buy with add-ons but only 750k as a first payment for a loan? Madness and nonsense! If they say no to option 1, they're surely eventually going to say no to option 2? Swansea were just toying with us yet we had all our eggs in one basket. Waste of time, naive and counterproductive. In my opinion, Radz lost his business acumen having been distracted by Spygate. #Muppet #Won'tbeattheBladesovertwolegs #Georgedepressednow #Needtimemachine.

Wex Of course timing makes a difference! Timing especially in business is often everything. It's such a fundamental concept, you should be embarrassed to say and think otherwise!

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 15:27:18
George as everyone says there's no value in January the business should have been done in August.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 17:18:58
Wex Not always possible due to funding issues, agent complications, player availability via club, player willingness to transfer, player scouting, need in a position only coming up when it arises (Harrison should've done better) . Player recruitment ain't just about opening a war chest. Ask Fulham. Timing is everything. In any event, we required at least one outfield player tactically and to mitigate burnout effects. Bielsa and Leeds needed a good January window. We didn't get one. Bad news.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 18:26:45
AL yes you can blame Radz he messed around trying to get the payment of 1 million delayed until May and they were not having it, I think George is right in his post.

Certain players we were linked with, one that comes to mind Norwood who ended up on a free to Shef utd, seen a number of highlights of there games his always in the mix either providing or causing problems .
I agree with Wex a couple of players would have allowed us to give players a rest or cover injuries, take Ph against Norwich totally looked out of sorts .
I do like to see the young players being given a chance if good enough but are squad at times has been to thin for my liking .

05 Feb 2019 20:05:17
Wex Yeah when they arrive as opportunities. Last time I checked Orta don't have a time machine. What would you have us do? Contact Swansea in August 2018 and say Dear Mr Jenkins you've got a pacy winger who we know is going to score goals and make assists over next 5 months so please can we buy him in the future at yesterday's price when his contract is running down even though no-one's really heard of him yet?

It's called "the market" Wex combined with "market forces". Did economics, business studies and essential physics just pass you by when you were at school? Why not get on the phone to the executor of Leslie Silver's estate and have a go at him for failing to intercept all of Messi's one nighters and used condoms? Oh and I've heard an amazing player will be born and bred in Leeds in the year 2053 so can't understand why he's not featuring in our current campaign? I've heard he's got a tasty left zygote.

Agree3 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 21:21:14
George is right, if James was our only outfield target and identified as a benefit then the we should not have been haggling over money when it might be the difference between 150 mill and premier league or championship and trying to hang on to our best players in the summer. Still believe we will go up in top two and SU will lose in play offs though.

How does Bamford earn a start after 25 min and one goal. He deserves to come on if roofe doesn't score but no way a start.
I would def play kp instead of Forshaw and shacks instead of Ayling and keep Roberts in. Hope brown can come on soon to so we can drop Harrison.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

05 Feb 2019 11:31:48
Possibly because we have been struggling to score in the last few games. I agree that it is harsh on Roofe, who has had a good season so far, however he needs some competition and support to keep his performance levels up. Weren't you recently criticising Bamford for not contributing enough? How can he contribute if he does not play? I would also argue that he currently has the best scoring ratio in the entire squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 11:42:07
If he scores 12 plus before end of season I will think he is worth what he cost. I very much doubt he will last more than 3 games before his injured. Every player needs to earn his start and 25 min and a goal compared with what roofe has delivered doesn’t cut it.
Roofe is due a goal and will run their defence ragged.

Aus, Roofe didn't really get a sniff against Boro at home, and I see no reason why it would be any different at the Riverside. Bamford was only subbed on in the 90th minute, so why not try to change it up - it can't really go any worse in terms of goal scoring, and Bamford's confidence will be up after his cameo last time out. Doesn't necessarily mean dropping Roofe, he could play on the right - though not his favourite position his movement could help make space for Bamford and tire out the defence ready for Clarke (and maybe Brown at some point, fingers crossed) to terrorise in the second half. Bamford's height would be useful in our own box too. At Elland Road Ayala had three clear headed opportunities and Shooton had one. Yes, Jansson only got on the pitch for the last few minutes, but every bit of height will help against these lanky freaks. That's why Ayling would seem to be the better pick at right back too - afterall he almost scored with a header at our place, which was cleared off the line.

How is paddy going to score 12 if we don’t play him?

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 12:46:51
Aus, by your reasoning Roofe deserves to keep his place ahead of Bamford as he's been doing it for us all season. So if we'd have signed Ronaldo would you say the same. I know Bamford is no Ronaldo but IMO he is a proper centre forward or at least he looked like one when he stuck a hatrick past us last season!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 12:49:26
Horses for courses Ausman. Roofe does not deserve to be dropped but Bamford may be more effective against certain opposition i. e. Middlesborough.

Good posts from all, especially Aus. Regardless of tactical changes, Bamford still needs to build his minutes before starting. I'd bring him on early second half along with Clarke.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 14:36:59
George, as a newbie to this, I certainly respect the opinions of established posterslike yourself. I also get that Bamford may still need to build his minutes. I would however like to see him on from the start, when the dynamics of the match are being established. After half time could be too late if, as at Elland Road, Roofe and the rest have been nullified by their back line, and perhaps bouyed by their home support Boro have managed to get a jump on us (pun intended) . A combination of Roofe's movement (albeit from a wider position) and Bamford's greater physical presence probably has a better chance of breaching a relatively fresh Boro defence, and Bamford could help safeguard things at set pieces at our end. If Bamford needs to come off in the second half, by then the little guys will have a better chance against a trying defence - particularly if Boro are then chasing the game. I may be completely wrong, it's just how I see it.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 17:20:30
Good posts Clueless you are not! Go with Bamford, Roofe in reserve. No one likes an x player starting against them, always feels like it is written in the stars. Did well for the goal on Saturday and within minutes of his last appearance. Not bad to give Roofe a bit of a break and a chance to come on with energy and prove what he can do!

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Feb 2019 17:27:07
Clueless Good reply but I pose the question at what risk and cost? You bring him back gradually in my opinion especially with his injury record. You don't want him out injured again. I accept he has class (more so than Roofe) but I'd err on caution side.

Thought Bamford looked in good shape and caused problems, a few seasons ago the guy was on fire .
We are suffering because to many misplaced passes, this is where I think Kp is best suited for the def/ mid role as he wins balls and puts the ball forward.
Forshaw seems to lose the ball a lot in this position, and for me Harrison is not good enough .
I hope Brown is soon fit as he will do better.
