Use our rumours form to send us leeds transfer rumours.

05 Jan 2013 23:15:55
Always interesting to read the varied viewpoints from our fans. The euphoria of the takeover has been quickly squashed.

I have been supportive of NW up until now because we are positioned reasonably in the league. However, I agree that we need a change of philosophy in our style of football. Most of us want to watch pleasing, sexy football not the kick and rush we're seeing at mo.

No doubt NW would claim he is playing to our strengths, but it is dross to watch. We badly need players who arecomfortable on the ball and can pick a pass or keep the ball when we need to relieve pressure.

I hope NW can get some decent additions to the squad in this window and start to play attractive football. I must admit, watching Brighton today made me a little envious. MOT Ron

I agree I was envious of Brighton and I crave good football at elland rd, I have said this for a while that warnock has not got a attic in him at qpr it was give adel the ball and at Leeds it's hit it to luciano, I wud not mind playing long ball like stoke they win games and play ok football !

Was one of the few at the game today and just my opinion
Ryan Hall was bloody shocking and not worth £1.50 never mind the rest of the transfer fee, .
How many times in the second half was Byram free on the right but ball never got to him, too slow in midfield in getting the ball out wide.
I know i will get slated for this but apart from the goal what exactly was Becchios contribution today, won very little in the air and did nothing else.
Today we saw a very mediocre Leeds side play a Birmingham youth side that was also pretty dire. What positives can we take from the game today...None. Our league position flatters us greatly and its sad to see our great club employing such journey men with very little passion or love for our club. Mrs Haigh was very enthusiastic though and sang more than most of the Leeds fans today.
And for any Birmingham fans looking in, Gary Megson was sat 10 feet away from me invited by the Birmingham board so Lee Clarke your time is up

Believable13 Unbelievable5

And so you should be slated for your comments on Becchio!

He'll never be Messi, but I'll tell you what - without him we would be in a serious relegation battle. Somehow he keeps finding the back of the net, despite the scraps he keeps having to feed on.

"...apart from the goal...." - at least the lad keeps doing what he's paid to do!

Agree27 Disagree2

Second poster, thank you so much!

Becchio is a goal machine and as long as he keeps scoring he will remain our most important and essential player!

Agree20 Disagree2

Becchio is on form. Even when the squad are playing bad he is still bringing us home goals. That's what he's there for. What more do you want from him. He's a club legend. I rarely put a players name on the back of my shirt, haven't done so since the early 00s when I had Viduka on it. I've got Becchio on it now. That's how much I value him

After today and such a poor performance I am now starting to question the justification of giving warnock money to spend? He has spent good money on Pearce, varney, kenny, Peltier, hall, Norris, Austin, Tate, green....I could go on but I don't want to....all either ok or poor on very few occasions have any of these players performed even consistently well? Watching Brighton play today makes me wonder what poyet could do at a club like Leeds?

Believable16 Unbelievable1

Neil definitely needs to buy younger players with enthusiasm, pace and quality first off. We need a leader at the back who is strong and fearless who will see booting the ball as a last resort not a first resort, sign up Thomas or rest of season loan, a pacy winger on the other side who will get the ball in there and then another striker who can compete with becchio as he is our only striker so far who's in form but don't know bout a new striker seeing as somma is decent and Mcormack when in form is exceptional and i think GFH will give 4-5 million to spend if their serious about us going up what you think

Agree13 Disagree0

I think we need a better scouting system or a manager tht will look beyond england for new signings most of the talent in the football league is foreign players or at least young brits because warnocks ideals of ''experienced'' players doesnt actually mean they're any good......... {Ed013's Note - Great call for a better scouting process, I said this back in league 1. Look at the players we could of had, LeFondre, Simeon Jackson,Graham Perkins etc etc please feel free to add}

I have been on the site before and
I am prepared to continue to Trust in
Warnock - however I am losing a
little patience. Our midfield is not good
enough, even last year when we had
Clayton we were more stable, now
the defence has no-one seeking the
ball from them hence all the back
passes by Tait, Brown and Lees. Unless
we buy 2 very good midfielders (or
loan them) we have no chance of
progressing this season - that is clear and
obvious, we also need a stable defence,
put someone in at LB Neil and trust them
and stick with them. I believe we have the
strike power to score if good service is
provided, but we have virtually no service
in midfield. Today was shocking - for me
Norris, White, Green, Brown, Varney - not fit to
wear our shirt - we NEED QUALITY GFH, please
listen. Jez MOT {Ed013's Note - Good post mate, although Green has played ok}

Ive been watching Leeds since 1957and I have to say the current team is one of the worst I have seen from that date. Not quite the worst but running very close. JD {Ed013's Note - Its funny you should say that, I had a similar discussion earlier}

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I can think of a few worse.

In the 1980's I'm afraid some of King Billy's teams were dire!

When Gary McAllister was sacked that was a very poor team which was heading for League Two!

In fact even last season's team were worse than this.

Agree8 Disagree9

05 Jan 2013 21:04:59
How about a formation of 6.0.4?
Because there appears to be nobody doing anything in midfield at the moment and the 'Hoofball' from the keeper or defence up the park bypasses the need by default so we may as well pack out the defence and attack!
Seriously it was dire today, attendance poor too!
Becchio should not be sold at any cost as he does the business still during this dross!
Play football on the ground please!!
White teeth {Ed013's Note - like it}

Believable18 Unbelievable1

Great post.... ive been saying this for a year now...even when we have had 6 goals banged past us people have slagged the defence off.
but for me the problem has always been the midfield.. we have never had a quality midfield passer/playmaker

Sounds coming out of leeds by Jones saying we wouldn't be able to turn down a good offer for byram plus saying if i was a premier ship manager i would be watching byram and becchio come on surely if we want to do anything this season we have to keep hold of both till the summer at least

Believable6 Unbelievable2

He didnt say "a good offer", he said an offer of 10 million, that aint a good offer, its a ridiculous offer, and for that money he would surely go, Id say a good offer would be around 2 to 3 million, cant see him going for that though.

Agree3 Disagree0

Surely even saying we couldn't turn down this much or that much is just putting him in shop window why not stay quiet or just say not for sale full stop

Agree4 Disagree5

05 Jan 2013 17:02:35
a replay... just what nobody wanted. Neil should throw in the youth for that game. they'll either sink or swim. no pressure, but a lot to gain from our point of view.

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Arent most of our young players out on loan now?

Agree1 Disagree6

There's also a lot to lose if you destroy a kid's confidence by chucking him in too early. You can't just throw young players in like that. If they were good enough, they'd already be in the team - like Byram.

A lot of people rave about Poleon, but remember the Palace game? We were 2-0 up and he allowed the cross to go in far too easily for their goal. He also gave away a stupid free-kick in the later stages right on the edge of our box. Warnock saw a problem and ended up taking him back off. What would people have said if we'd finished up drawing that game? He's clearly not ready yet - but the fact we have seen him in the first team says he is more ready than the rest!

We need to get real and stop assuming the kids will come in and immediately do well. I'm happy to leave it to our manager and staff to decide when they're ready.

Agree5 Disagree2

Maybe if he was played up front as he is a striker, those mistakes came from being on the wing.

Agree4 Disagree4

Those mistakes were more to do with him being inexperienced than being on the wing.

Mental toughness is of huge importance in being a successful professional footballer, particularly at a club with the expectancy levels of Leeds United. How many experienced pros have come to Leeds with big reputations but flopped?

It's unfair on Neil Warnock and it's very unfair on the young players themselves to expect them to be able to come into the team and perform at a good level straight away. I'm no fan of Michael Brown but I don't want to see my team blown away because it's full of young lads who aren't ready. Also don't forget we as Leeds fans aren't well known for our patience! A young lad could be destroyed for good if he was subjected to the kind of "advice" on offer from the stands at times at Elland Road.

The answer to our current problems is simple in theory - we need to invest in quality players. For me we need a commanding centre-half who is quick, a central midfielder who can control a game for 90 minutes, a left-back, at least one winger in the mould of Max Gradel (not convinced at all why we are still interested in Jerome Thomas), and a striker with genuine pace. At least that's the theory. Over to you GFH, or I'm afraid the attendance today may be a sign of things to come.......

Agree3 Disagree0

Just seen something on suggesting we're well on the way to signing Thomas. He hasn't impressed me much up to now - maybe it's because he's not fully fit.

Looking at the bigger picture, this at least could mean we really are actually competing in the transfer market at long last, as there were a few clubs sniffing round Thomas.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Jan 2013 16:50:13
Basically, and crucially, if we are gonna do it right this season we need a middle premiership standard play maker. The rest can wait. Spend the money there.

Believable6 Unbelievable6

We certainly need a playmaker but we have since we lost Gradel.

I still worry about the centre-backs we have at the club. Against a team with pace we've no chance.

I think change needs to take place however we need to give NW sometime. I think what we all should probably be realistic about is that we will not go up this year. We should use this season to stabilise and build for next season. What I would say though is some of our coaching staff are not top notch for example Jepson was not a very Manager and has ended up with us.... Perhaps NW should bring new change to the backroom plus build on the team

Sack warnock before he blows however much he has to spend
Do it today so he won't have to come to elland rd again
It's no point thinking we can't afford the good players wages, I know we won't be silly with the wages but the under £5k a week brigade ain't gonna get us promoted.
Isn't better to choose 2 or 3 top quality players and pay them as little as poss, but get them at least
No point buying 10 crap players because they are cheap.
2 or 3 now and another 2 or 3 in the summer and job done.
I can see it coming lads. He is gonna pick up a load if dross with the money, fail to get promotion and walk out in the summer to leave us with a bunch of persons we can't sell.

Whats doing my head in, is the fact we are not asking them to break the bank. Like the saying goes, give a little get a lot.
I feel while ever Bates is showing them the ropes. He is also trying to show them some really bad habits that got us into these poor showings in the first place, is anyone going to wake up and smell the coffee or are these people the P, I, P of the footballing world. GET YOUR CLAIMS READY!!
