Sorry don't like to criticize any player who dons the white shirt but Tom Lees imo is just not good enough at this level. Centre half is a key position & needs someone who can read a game, tackle and distribute, none of which Tom can do. League one at best

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to agree on that one. I think the lads athletic and may be a full back, but not a centre half, for the reasons you have given.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also agree mate. Always looked upon him favourably as he's an academy graduate but he's not up to it. The one question I ask myself about players now is "is this player a league winning defender" or "is this player a league winning striker".

Tom Lees could win league 1 or 2 but he won't win us the championship or keep us in the premier league when we get there. He is either a decent backup or needs to be sold on.

Its the same feeling I have towards Aidy White. Potential is there but with Aidy his development has been stalleed due to Warnock playing him everywhere bar left back and not getting enough game time under Brian. I think they both need to go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Definitely need some experience in centre of defence next season have conceded far too many cheap goals which would be embarrassing for under 9's. Tom lees has had an awful season and is terrible on the ball too every time he gets it all he does is hoof it up the pitch

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Lees is the best of a bad bunch when it comes to our centre backs that have attempted to partner Pearce this hear! I'd keep him as a back-up to Pearce and another solid centre back. Not sure who I'd want to keep between Zaliukas and Wooton for 4th choice as both are simply woeful, Killock?

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Killock is the answer. He hasn't really been around the first team much. Farmed out on loan to play no real level of competitive football that can measure how well he'd cope at our level. It seems like Killock, Turner twins and even Charlie Taylor have missed the boat with us. i'd perhaps keep Taylor around. We need a proper defensive overhaul. Pearce and Byram are the only ones I actually trust at the back. i'd like to see Pelts back at CB though.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with CRMD above, if we are seriously thinking about moving forward I think we need to move on players like White & Lees however harsh it may seem. Both are decent lads who have come through the ranks but they are not strong enough to get us higher up the league. I can't fathom why BMD stuck with him all season as IMO he was probably the one who unbalanced our back four in most games.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that Peltier would be a good call as back up to the central defense however he has clearly questioned Brian authority and therefore is surplus to requirement. I am afraid that if BMcD continues to manage the team then Lees will continue to play as Brian is oblivious to how poor Lees is. The only addition to our defense under Brian will be the signing of Matt Mills

Agree0 Disagree0

Against Cardiff, I think it was last season, Peltier looked great playing at centre back. If we can get Zaliaukas back to the level he was when captain of Hearts, they'd be a great pairing. I think Pearce's attitude is first class, just not sure he's got the quality or pace to be part of a promotion level side, though he has improved since last year. Really can't see Lees as a long term answer, undecided about Wootton who needs time to develop alongside someone more experienced.

Not a rumour but what would you think of Chris eagles coming in to the midfield now that he's leaving Bolton

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Been saying this all season, would be a good addition in my opinion.

{Ed013's Note - Good Morning everyone, after a weekend of aches and pains I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thanks to everyone that helped and donated for the charity event that I was involved with last week. Nearly 400 miles we cycled from Leeds, via Harrogate, York, Sheffield, Cambridge, London and finishing in Colchester all in 4 days. We have so far raised over a £1000 for Macmillan cancer and that figure is still raising. The hardest thing I have ever done, but well worth it. Once again a massive thanks from all 12 of us. Martyn is chuffed to bits with the support, I just need to convince him to be a Leeds fan now! MOT}

Well done to all of you Ed

Just a thought, now we are getting towards who to keep and who to release.Whats the verdict on aidy white?Personally I think if used as a left back he's ok.Sadly he's been in every position but that. Also can tom lees be salvaged or is he beyond help, jason pearce had a good season, after many including me wrote him off

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Let's start with Aidy White. At 22 it could be argued he has time to develop however at this age he should be demonstrating enough quality to be challenging for particular spot in the team i.e. left back. The issue with Aidy is that he is seen as a utility player which makes him Jack of all trades and master of none. He certainly is not a wide midfielder/winger as he does not understand how to use his pace and invaribly dribbles into cul-de-sacs, also when he loses the ball there is little or no effort to win it back. Left back is probably his better spot however he consistently gets overlooked by managers perhaps because his positional sense is pretty poor but this can be attributed to not learning a particular position well (Jack of all trades). As for Tom Lees, he has all the attributes to be a top centre back however he has absolutely no self confidence to the extent that he is so frightened to make a challenge that could lead to a mistake that he will back away and make it easy for the attacker to bypass him (or he will get tangled up in his own feet and fall over). My concern with Lees is that he has worked with 3 different managers since he has been in the 1st team and has shown absolutely no improvement in his game, in fact I would argue that he has got worse. The quality of coaching that he has received could be a factor in his demise however the common demoninator is that Tom Lees is not good enough to be our centre back if we have designs on being a promotion challenging team in the next two seasons. Both Lees and White get away with limited criticism from our fans because they are academy graduates however if Brian had purchased either of these two there would be heavy criticism that he has wasted his transfer budget

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldn't lose sleep if they both left this summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd keep them both as back ups and make sure Aidy was used as a left back otherwise he'll never progress! Lees has one major issue, concentration! He let's players slip away from him because he isn't concentrating on them and starts watching the ball! Also has become increasingly nervous with his distribution, when he first came into the team he played the ball around well enough now it's just hoof-ball tactics.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that both players should be retained but only as back up.Lee's has lost the composure and seems lacking in any confidence he had when he first broke into the first team, he treats the ball like a "hot potato", hoofing it forward more in hope than anything else.As for white, he has pace to burn but rarely use's it to the benefit of the team(seems to find a dead end all too often)he reminds me of a young arraron lennon but the latters composure and end product improved and still is improving, perhaps because he knows where he's going too play week in week out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally when White came on this weekend felt he made a real difference. Far better than stewart or kebe, this he has potential in the winger role. Our defence in general has had a bad year, need a good experienced head in there, would personally use lees as back up, Byram RB, Pearce CB, (Insert signing here) CB, Warnock LB. Is that CB role for Mills this year?

Agree0 Disagree0

Have to disagree MarkD14, although I felt that White ran well with the ball he constantly ran into cul-de-sacs and did not produce one telling cross. This is the mystique with White, with all the endeavour he gives there is never an end product then fans trott out the line "at least he is better than Kebe and Stewart" but the fact is all three of them are crap

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think white is a left back but as we seem to want to use wing backs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post NottsWhite. Couldn't agree more. I'd still retain Lees and White. It's just they must know their place for next season which ought to be to challenge for a place on the sub bench. You need to write about Austin next.

Just seen on ssn that chris eagles has been released from Bolton, think he's worth taking to pre season to have a look at him. He could be a good addition.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Id ask why have bolton released him if they don't fancy why should we

Agree0 Disagree0

Probly the wage he earns

The football holidays are upon us, time to shake off the stresses of another eventful year at lufc. For the first time this year I started to loose faith, I stuck with McD until Christmas then realised he can't cut it at a club with so much baggage to handle, reading between the lines he may be in for a role change over the summer. Now its time to find some sun, sea, chips and larger on the beach, factor 30 on my bonce and start scouting the bikinis in Brazil. That's what I call a pre-season. Here's to next year, I predict a riot.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ah yes the Brazilian bikinis, happy times ahead
