Nice to see Monk get his Birmingham job off to a losing start. I do hope he takes them down. A win win in my book!

Stroke of genius by Monk. If they survive he will be hero. If down not his fault and contract pay off or in a league they should win.

Bottom half guys! Anyone still think we have a hope of promotion or has reality finally sunk in, out of fantasy land?

Just admired the table myself and thought if we win our game in hand. ? but then I realised that the game is against wolves tomorrow and thought feck. Look on the bright side it’s going to be slightly easier next season to improve on this

Just reading an article about an interest in a Scottish goalie which ends with why not, he can't be any worse. Firstly, he's Scottish and a goalie? Second we are not looking for no worse than anybody must be better than. I know, bad example. Bermo is better than, but for all positions we must be looking for - hit the ground running and a definite better than. Next year is our year
PS I think I said that last 3 years running.

Can anyone tell me why Reading always play their evening games at 8 o'clock unlike everyone else who play at 7.45?

I think we could get away with 12mill (ish) if we spend 4mill each on a quality CB, LB and Striker. This of course could be reduced if some U23s come good. If Shaugnessy, Roberts/Ekuban improve and slot straight in we may not have as big a problem as at first seems. I would also think that Hecky must show his ruthless streak and open up funds by instigating a cull of several failures together with the loaning out of some U23s who promise much, but are not quite there yet.

Your forgetting the midfield only Forshaw looks good enough so we need to replace O'kane and Phillips who are both dire Vieira needs putting back in under 23s his confidence is low and needs to learn how to play again and pass a ball to his own team mates.

I was hoping Ideguchi would partner Forshaw and solve our problem, with Viera stepping up occasionally. We even have others knocking on the door and a new acquisition in Jordan Stevens.

Yeh Ideguchi is an interesting one not sure what to expect with him he could be another Siaz or another damp squid.

Think Ideguchi is a commercial signing. If he's not getting game time with Mayonnaise, he won't cut it here! Just me being cynical for once!

I hoping Ideguchi is a success and a great partner for Forshaw, but as time goes on feeling less confident. What ever happened to the player from Liverpool, can’t remember his name?

Aus they are the figures being quoted that we paid for Pontus, Saiz and Foreshaw and even if I am a little out I don't think I am that far away. The right scouting system should be able to unearth the 7 or so players needed to really make the difference without paying way over the odds . For example Milner on a free transfer at the end of his stint with Pool would cost us wages and maybe a bonus if we went up. We let Green and Brids go cheap (think we got £1.5m for them both, we had Barts on loan . Just based on that its 4 of the 7 players needed for just £1.5m) . Alongside these we would only need a Striker, winger and a left back.3 players like Grabban, Bryan and Jonny Russell what are they going to set you back 5 or 6 million max and you have brought in 7 players for under 7.5 m and that's far less than what we are still owed for Wood

PA, with your, and other, posts it all underlines we can solve our problems with prudent purchases and not a large amount of cash. It just takes, knowledge of the market and a dash of wisdom. The bargains are out there.

Looking forward and trying not to make this too long winded. This is only a suggestion, Players not mentioned below are deemed as squad players, in the squad in their regular position as back up players. "Out" for me would be the 2 keepers, the 2 loanees, Anita, Sakho, Cibicki and maybe Philips on loan. All the players "In" would be first choice for their position. The "In's", a keeper, BPF as backup, a Left Back, a Centre Half, 2 wingers, a midfield general and a striker. We have £5 million coming form Woods sale if we borrow the other £5 million due next season, that gives us £10 million. If Rads has even another £5 million to put in the pot that's £15m. By my reckoning we could get a striker of Saiz quality for £4m and a Keeper for £1m, left back for a £1m, Centre Half, Centre Mid £2.5 each and 2 wingers for £2 million each . These are in line with the figures quoted for Saiz, Foreshaw and Pontus. That makes a spend of £15 million and totally transforms our whole squad, this is with only the £10m we are owed and £5m form next seasons turnover . If we cannot do this or plan to do this there is something wrong somewhere and maybe it would be time for somebody else?

I lik ethe idea, but don't forget its orta spending the money, a good scout would be able to unearth good talent here, hecky could do this. I think roberts will come good and people have forgotten about him. we also need to look to youth teams now, jack clarke, kun, sarkic, romario, peare, rey, diaz, hosannah, could all start to push their way through, miazek training with the first team, and i think the arrival of BPF to first team sessions will mean bye bye lonergan. lots of work to still be done, and there's people saying we should have been promoted this year, no way.

I don't think we can get any of the playersfor the money you mention above. Not good enough quality. I think we are better of selling jansson for $15m if we can get it! I would dump wield. Anita. Cblicki. Sacko. Okane. Phillips on loan, eukaba u23.

I don't believe we need much in the way of cash, or players, to turn us into contenders. 3 key signings are all that are required and whether this is external or some of the "ones for the future" grab the "now" I truly hope that all the mud we are slinging at Orta is unwarranted and every one of the young guns called on fires us into the Prem next year. Maybe our situation now offers an open door to some players to step up and make a position their own. Come on Hecky take a chance, give them a go.

Let us be realistic. Paul Heckingbottom's reputation to date is based on getting the best out of average/ mediocre players. The ambition of the owners that have employed him seems to be getting promotion from the lower divisions or avoiding relegation from the championship. We are buying cheap and hoping for the best. WE haven't brought in any managers with any success of getting teams out of the championship with the exception of NW. Orta failed miserably at Middlesborough but is here. PH is a Barnsley level coach. We have very average players which I have been saying for some time. Was it really any surprise that we were over run in mid field last Friday? It happens every week but we have usually got away with it until the new year when we started getting the results we deserved. Not holding out much hope for the rest of the season and next year could be a lot worse. I said a while back that we would need to bring in at least eight very good quality players to make progress. That's probably the very minimum. Name three players in the present squad who fit that description and who are likely to stay next season.

forshaw, lasogga, dallas, jansson, saiz, hernandez, ayling, have all been new signings in the last 2 years, keep that and there's a core to work with, and someone is doing something right. admittedly jansson and hernandez were loans who orta just signed up, but forshaw and saiz are his business. if we keep all of these players, and find a striker and a goalkeeper as good as forshaw and saiz, then were on it

I said name quality three who will be here next season. in your list there is Forshaw who still seems to be getting on well with his Middlesborough team mates. Dallas is a good squaddie. Ayling is ok but had a dip in form before his injury. No one else I think will be here of that list.
