Anyone know what's happening with Somma. Few months ago it was said that he would be becoming fit around the new year (now), and would train with Leeds, where B McD would take a look at him. I for one would love him back playing for us.

Just finished work and it seems that all potential new signings are loan ones?! Am I missing something or are we still skint? didn't expect millions but thought we might spend maybe 2 million on premanent signings. **** it we are LEEDS so I shouldn't be surprised! MOT

It's January 9th mate, not the 31st.

Stewart is only a loan due to the league rules and and ill be a permanent signing in the summer. Kebe to be permanent if we go up. Still looking at other signings so obviously not skint. Already a better window than last year

CS will be a perm signing but can't be compelted until his contract expires with Hull due to league rules on how many teams you can play for .
I think Kebe will again be a loan with a view to purchase sort of a try before you buy.
I don't mind loans like this as they have to perform to get the contract. if they don't work out we can walk away.
I'm still confident new players will come in as signings.

So, Cameron Stewart in, Jimmy Kebe looking likely, where do we go from here?
I for one, and I'm sure I'm not alone, know we need a goal scoring striker, to take the pressure off Ross.
Question is, who is available?
1. Adam Le Fondre (Has strong links with B'Mac, would team up well with Ross IMO)
2. Nicky Maynard (If played consistantly can come up with the goods, last 2 seasons haven't seen the best of him)
3. Luciano Becchio (Do we really want to take back old players just for sentimental reasons?)
4. Matty Fryatt (Another player who we haven't seen much of over last couple of seasons, seems most his goals come from the penalty spot too)
5. Ricardo Vaz Te (Prolific in the two seasons he has played consistantly at Championship level, contract is due up in the summer too)
6. Ashley Barnes (Looking Burnley bound as we speak, though rumours of us sneaking in to steal him still circling)
7. Nahki Wells (Looks Huddersfield bound)
Of the above, personally I think Adam Le Fondre or Ricardo Vaz Te would be our best options, it is all down to opinions however.

With West Hams striker problems I can't see Vaz Te happening + he's injured. ALF would be my choice, either him or Guidetti on loan.

looking at who we've signed/ing/maybe leaving
Stewart - has to be considered a starter
Kebe - the same
Ashley Barnes - he seems like a big upgrade on Varney
Young reserve keeper seeing how Cairns doesn't appeared to be rated.
Out
Diouf - has to leave for a guy on decent money he never plays small transfer fee on even free but the value is in the wages.
- Brown too slow and only plays the sparing game well, we need someone who ease the pressure off Rudy more often - Liam Bridcutt rumours?
Cairns - loan to League 2
Norris -though I think he's injured.
Drury - free we won't get a fee for him, someone like Notts County
Poleon - loan depending on if we bring in a forward if not he stays
Finally, not necessarily desperate upgrade area, but Michael Morrison's contract up in the summer, could sign him cheaply we'd have 4 solid cbs

When we get kebe I can see McDermott operating a 4-4-2. I think next we need another, not necessarily a starter but someone who could impact from the bench. I am hoping Smith is going to thrive now with having two wingers who can drill in a cross (instead of it being hoofed up to him)
I can also see the 4-4-2 being beneficial to our cms and can see Mowatt, Murphy And Austin playing a lot better. It seems that with the current formation we have to much going on in the middle and not neigh room for the players to show what they can do etc (what do you think ed?)
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Mate I would wait til summer for another winger, Ariyibi would have to be the sub winger for now I agree that 4-4-2 works really well u can play 2 from three of Austin Murphy Mowatt leaving one off the bench after hour if 1 inj then Green can step up. Specially help Rudy I would say

Sorry I put it in wrong. Meant to say another striker, someone like Barnes would be ideal

need more - more to come - you can't start with Austin and Murphy and the Kid Mowatt - another player needed to split that three - who have NOT delivered as a midfield. So . Kebe and Stewart wide the Brighton lad centre with Austin and Alf and McCormack up top - sorted

Stewart will miss last 5 games of season with no view to extending loan deal because it's an emergency loan deal, confirmed by Adam pope.that's a downer what if we reach play offs we will be missing one of our influential players hopefully Brian has already sorted that out with palace regarding kebe, wouldn't like to think we were missing both

I honestly think our downfall this season will be goals scored, we have one class striker, other teams have at least three, look at burnley once they sign Barnes they will have ings, vokes and Barnes all three will score goals in this league who do we have apart from McCormack, smith I have my doubts, poleon no, Varney no, I think we need 2 more strikers this window.
Believable0

With two wingers, smith could now emerge as a prolific goalscorer

Good footballer! brings other players into the game and could strike up a good relationship on the pitch with Ross. got a few goals in him aswell and scored a few at Brighton who's service is generally poor from midfield. Reckon he'll be off to Burnley tho.

Those I speak to down here generally believe he is too lazy, he may have the potential to be a smart footballer, but I believe there are better around who are proven more than Barnes is.

Does anyone have any idea why one of the first signings isn't a back up goal keeper? Kenny has been the stand out player for me this season but he is carrying a knock and I would feel a lot more comfortable with a good understudy on the bench just incase. Also any ideas who the goalie could be?

Tommy Lee from chesterfield has been branded around a few times
Agree0

Probably because between Cairns and Ashdown and Paddys knock improving he needs to focus on the scoring and winning games rather than bringing someone in who may or may not even be needed.
Even with a bad foot Kenny was our best player against Rochdale.
In summer or emergency loan he can get one (probably summer) but now its about attackers and wingers.
Agree0

I agree we need a back up keeper urgently, Cairns is nowhere near ready yet.

Gotta set priorities i'm afraid. Cental, attacking and defensive Midfielders are in need to add an injection of quality before a keeper. Cairns could be ready. when have you seen him play regularly?

Can anyone shed any light on whether Jimmy Kebe is good or not?
I know he hasn't played much for Palace but that can be simply that the other players they have for that position are even better.
Just want an honest opinion of how good he is.
Positive that we are making signings and following months of supporters voicing their opinions that we need wingers, it looks like we might have 2 with some pace.
I think it is really positive for us.
Lets get Defoe on loan until March, that will set the league alight!

Kebe is a pacey winger still with a stepover in the bag aswell. He's definitly a good addition in the championship for a playoff bound team. def not prem quality tho. scored a few goals for Reading over the last few years. Overall, Good work Brian!

Good to hear that Stewart has signed, initially on loan.
One query though, as this is a 93 day loan, presumably he misses the last 5 fixtures. Or will we be able to extend the loan period then.
Hopefully Kebe on way and links to Barnes come to fruition.

I don't know if it's me just been fussy, but kebe joining on loan, Stewart joining on loan we all know that loan signings don't always settle as good as permanent signings, also it's still not really the new owners putting there hand in there pockets as such, I know people will say wages need to be paid, but Murphy is still the only 1m plus signing for years we need proper investment that means some real money spent on real class players and that still hasn't happened yet.
Believable0

{Ed013's Note - Stewart has signed a 3 year contract, it kicks in after the season ends}
Why on loan then 1st and not just sign a 3 1/2 year contract

I agree, two free transfers practically and not very convincing ones at that, A Hull/Charlton reserve and a 30 year old from Palace.
Buckley and Guidetti next please Brian
Agree0

I think kebe on loan is the right call he's hardly played of late this way we get to have a look at him without committing big money.
Agree0
Disagree0
Fifa rules said we could only have Stewart on a loan deal as he has played for 2 clubs already this year, therefore a pre contract agreement has been signed. Kebe hasn't played for a while surely it's better to try before you buy with an option to buy at the end of the year. I would imagine kebe would cost about 750k to 1 mil to cut palaces losses on him
Agree0

09 Jan 2014 07:33:26
I am not convinced Jimmy Kebe is the answer for us. He is 30 in Novemebr, this is the age when most wingers go off the boil. How do we fit him in the system we paly? If we get Stewart as well and play with 2 wingers then we have to play 4-4-2 which we have not played all season, meaning that it could take a while for the players to adapt, which probably means more points dropped.
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Do you actually think putting wingers in will make us play anyworse?
kebe is a very good player and experienced and far better than anyone we have in that area.
30? isn't giggs 40?.if he didn't play for you know who then i'd sure have him>
what are you expecting? shaun wright phillips would have been a great type of signing but clubs like qpr would never sell or loan him so its difficult to get in top top class.but for me kebe is a very good addition. shrew leeds

Kebe is a brilliant player for us, around the right age as he isn't past it by any stretch, and has a lot of experience. our aim is to get out the championship in the next 2 years. he is the perfect age for that. when he gets to 33-34 he will start to deteriorate.
