If smith was that good today why didn't he score!? We need to be moving forward! If we were to take a former player back I would like Beckford back without a doubt but I want us to be looking forward for young hungry players who can get the job done.

Smith was like howson from leeds lived in leeds i went to the same scool as smith (Rodillian in Lofthouse) but we never talked haha

And his time as a footballer is up and will never be as good as he was but i would love see him back because he is what leeds are about, a leeds lad is rough and ready and does not care what happens to him as long as he trys his best for the club.

Seriously though, Smith looked to be improving and would love to see him sign permanently at MK Dons.

He needs a year with starting football, to get his career back on track so I do agree that he's probably not the right man to start for Leeds.

He played 60 mins in a league 1 game and was subbed.

Beckford was great with becchio I think he realises what a great foil becchio was for him now.
Prefer gradel back along with a free kick specialist to take advantage of all the free kicks outside the box that gradel wins

Wasn't he playing in midfield? I don't know about you, but I don't watch football expecting midfielders to score. It's obviously unsurprising, as they can get into forward positions, but it's strikers that you be expecting to score.

I'm sorry i can't take this smith bashing anymore. Smith was an excellent player for Leeds and one I will always remember, he went to Man Utd but only because he had to. The Man Utd fans loved him and when he got sent off playing for England the fans applauded him. Howson is and will never be nowhere near to how good smithy was. He isn't good enough at the moment but I will remember smithy till I die but will I rembember howson, probably not.

Hi, applauded after being sent off playing for England just about sums up Smith, or does it sum up English football supporters?
Smith has a dreadful scoring record, dreadful discipinary record, cannot tackle, cannot pass, and now struggles to finish a game in division one.
And the weirdest thing is some people want him back at Leeds.
He did nothing the first time when he was young and useless, what would he bring now he is old and even more useless?

I remember Robert Ayala saying smith and viduka were the hardest strike partnership he played against, not bad for a player who can't pass, shoot, tackle..... Anyway goodluck to smithy, hope he bags a goal and does one over udders.

Smithy was a very good player the last time he was at Leeds, his goal to game ratio might not have been the best but he was a team player, he would defend and back track at every chance to help his team mates! this is the kind of player Leeds need. He needs regular first team game to regain that edge, therefore he's not what Leeds need now. As for him being useless sorry but Man Utd and Newcastle Utd do not buy players and play them if they are useless. People need to get over the fact that he Left Leeds for Man Utd, he did what he had to. When Man Utd come knocking you listen they are one of the biggest and most successful teams in the world (unfortunately). MOT

a) He could play in our team
b) We need him
c) he wouldnt be happy sat on the bench
d) Not the best at scoring..if Fergie took the mick out of Smith when he said he didnt buy smith as a striker he bought him for midfield and thats where he played all the time, even at Newcastle, It was only at Leeds where he was up front.

Better off spending the £10K + per week he will demand on somebody else.

Smith has nothing whatsoever to offer I'm afraid. We haven't got the money to waste on a non-playing mascot. If we're going to spend good money on one former player, I want Beckford back. Let's concentrate our energies on making our desire to have Beckford back known...

Hi, my goodness, the opinion of Ayala makes Smith a superstar, how silly of me to not know that.

As for Man U and Newcastle not signing useless players, what did Smith do for either of them? And of course both clubs transfer records are littered with successes, no way have they ever made a bad signing.
Smith was bought as a striker, when his managers realised he could not score goals, he was shoehorned into midfield.
Please save me from all this "track back, help team mates team player" nonsence,
his job was to score goals, which he could not do, so as I say he was and is useless.

At the end of the day the guy is on 60k at Mk dons still (nufc are making up the bulk) he'd be offered 15k maximum at leeds and it would be a huge gamble for him and us....do you think he'd want that? no of course he wouldnt. and dont state he isnt interested in the money and is looking to stay at mk that wont happen in a month of sundays unless no one else is interested thats why hes mentioned taking a coaching role as a fall back net. WE NEED PACE.....SMITH HAS NONE AND CANT FINISH AN ENTIRE GAME IN LG1.....not a chance!

Hopefully true, but cnt see it, he's gonna be on 20k plus, and we've only offered snoddy 15k, so unless he takes a massive wage drop, there's no way it will happen

Sounds good but he only signed a contract in July 2011 so dont get your expectations up unless Hughes decides to offload and even then there will be a fee ontop of min £15k a week. Equally Jame Coppinger of Doncaster who has been mentioned has also signed a four year deal in Jul 2011. Both on wish list but more wishful than obtainable

I've never really being Bothroyd's biggest fan, and even though he is a good player, I think Warnock might be able to find someone better for cheaper wages.

Also I might be the only Leeds fan who doesn't want Beckford back at Leeds. I just find that when things don't go his way in a match, he tends to become easily frustrated.

From the rumours it sounds as if we are looking for a striker who is younger, cheaper, fast, and a work-horse. Don't have a clue who it could be, but obviously Warnock knows a lot more than I do.
