Paul green and Joel ward are the recent linked names and I think ward would be a excellent signing and he and pearce are like two peas in a pod! However green I doubt would be as good as him and maybe not as good as brown either! NW said he was looking for pace and hunger but i think we would be takin a step back signing green

yorskshire_whites

Believable15 Unbelievable9

Brown, non existence. untill last 5 games. green good at derby 4, 30 games and offered new deal. nw looking 4 good deals. also richard keogh is a must.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think green would be a good addition, he's a box to box mid which we lack, brown will only be a squad player, and I'm sure NW will bring in another mid who has pace

Agree0 Disagree0

Green has a good engine on him and will support defence and attack. Ring any bells? Bowyer was similar in his prime at leeds.

ivan klasnic is a target for leicter city. birmingham city and derby county , however Leeds united seem to be leading the chase (source Daily mirror football)

Believable26 Unbelievable18

The Mirror dosn't say anything about Leeds being after him or leading the chase for him from what I can see. It just says that he will be leaving Bolton

Just been looking at the players who contracts are expiring and bar a couple of good money signings I'd take a shed load of the freebies a lot of quality on the list
Def I'd have
Woodgate
Distan
Sonko
Whitbread
Mid I'd have
McCleary
Mcgugan
J thomas
Kightly
Strikers I'd hav
Klasnic
May hav missed a fair few and not sayin wed get these but as a leeds fan I live in hope MOT
Lufc hughzy

Believable14 Unbelievable11

Woody, Whitbread, McCleary (YES!), McGugan, Kightly all very good shouts... Thanks for the list

Agree0 Disagree0

Only one problem...looks like McCleary off to Reading and the premier league..the rest i think there is better out there. Wouldnt take woodgate tho, he has struggled at Stoke and even when he did play didnt really cope with the pace of the game.

But if he is free and comes on a pay per play deal well worth the chance

Ed juat read on twitter neil danns is coming is there any truth or just twitter rubbish {Ed013's Note - I stay away from twitter. He was a target last summer on a free so I wouldn't be happy paying cash for him after he rejected us. However, if it is true then I trust NW}

Believable13 Unbelievable12

You must be seeing things because he hasn't wrote anything to do with football for a while, what's point in lying,

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a very positive signing if possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

^ He didn't say that Neil Danns had told us all he was coming to Leeds, he's asking if ed's heard any rumours to the same tune as he's read. But I doubt it, good little player but on about 20k at leicester and playing regular games

Agree0 Disagree0

Doubt we will pay cash but may be part of a deal for Clayton!? Played for NW at palace

Ipswich Players Ibrahima Sonko and Lee Bowyer are on Free transfers this summer, expect at least one of these to sign. Both vastly experienced and usefull IMO. MOT {Ed013's Note - Lee Bowyer was offered a deal last summer, but chose Ipswich instead to be close to family so I doubt he will come}

Believable9 Unbelievable28

Agree actually ed forgot about that. Sonko must be worth a shout tho, 31 years old aint exactly 'over the hill' and he's a strong lad and would provide good experience alongside the relatively in-experienced Pearce or Lees. I wud be happy with him.

Agree0 Disagree0

God I hope neither sign!! not good enough imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

There's a reason why they haven't been offered new contracts, don't want Ipswich's old rubbish

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't want or need either of these. No good for us at all thats why they are getting released by Ipswich.

Agree0 Disagree0

Did you see his performance when we played Ipswich at home?! He is a poor defender who has struggled to hold down a spot in a poor Ipswich team. No thanks!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2012 16:21:39
ED you think we have the pull and finances to go for such as Adam Hamill/Darren Ambrose/Peter Whittingham these are the players I would like to see at Leeds or one or two of them could this be viable targets for Warnock

Or is this just be wishful thinking on my part {Ed037's Note - I could see the likes of the first two, and maybe Whittingham. Imo, we have the resources and pulling power for all of them, but only if Bates pulls his finger out. I say this because if Bates doesn't buy other players, it shows a lack of ambition for PL quality players}

Believable19 Unbelievable6

The argument has never been whether we have the money or not. We DO absolutely have the money to buy all of those players, and pay them top whack, whilst still turning a profit for the year, such is the size of the club's income.

The problem is, huge amounts of money go on stupidities such as Executive boxes & facilities, Yorkshire Radio, Howard's Restaurant etc. These were meant to generate revenue for the club, but unfortunately they are all loss making, meaning the club would be in a better financial position without them. The only reason we've continued to behave in this way as a business is the stubbornness of Ken Bates, who would rather continue with the building projects and blame the tightness of Yorkshiremen.

I almost want to say here that his Chelsea Village model only worked in London because the club is in such a comparitively wealthy area, only it DIDN'T work at all, and when he left the club it was on the verge of ruin, and now they need to move out of Bates's legacy ground in order to keep up with the other big clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see Hammill at Leeds to replace Clayton ... Much better player IMO {Ed013's Note - Is Hammill not a winger}

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes he is a winger and a dam good one IMO would love to see him at Leeds

Agree0 Disagree0

Whittingham would not come to leeds and nor could we afford him come on ed, and no we wouldnt be able to get both hammil and ambrose what planet are you guys on jeez {Ed013's Note - Ambrose is the only realistic one of the 3. Like I said, Hammill should get game time next season with Wolves, but Whittingham should be aiming for the Prem where I think a lower half team will go in for him}

Warnock has no interest in any QPR players but is working on signing Yakubu from Blackburn and Beckford from Leicester city.

Believable18 Unbelievable49

Yakubu is a 5mil rated striker dont think so. Jermaine maybe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yakubu is a non starter, money.Beckford ? will he be as good as he was b4?
NW has said our defence is crap so why would he go 4 two strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yakubu is on £30k a week at blackburn . so he wont be coming .

Agree0 Disagree0

After Yakubu scoring like he has this year in the prem, cant see it myself

Agree0 Disagree0

I would forget about Yakubu and concentrate on pulling out the stops to get Beckford, who clearly wants to be here, already has a fabulous rapport with the fans, and offers as near a guarantee as we can have of goals. Would also act as an incentive for attacking creative midfielders like Boyd and Ambrose to come (and for Snoddy to stay) if they thought there was a goalscorer like Becks in front of them ready to get on the receiving end of their ammo.

Agree0 Disagree0

There will only be 1 striker coming in unless we sell 1 of our top strikers as we have a strong strike force already .

Just looked at some of these players that are out of contract in the summer and some of there names have come up on this site once or twice:
Jerome Thomas
Matthew Connolly
Grant Leadbitter
Lewis McGugan
Paul Green
Danny Guthrie
Zac Whitbread
Michael Kightly
These are all players who are under the age of 30 and in my eyes would fit the bill for being hungry and most definatelty quality
ConnorMOT!

Believable25 Unbelievable4

Jerome Thomas, Paul Green, Grant Leadbitter and Matthew Connolly are the realistic ones.

Agree0 Disagree0

Will take McGugan, Kightly, Leadbitter, Guthrie bit skeptical about green BrianMOT

Agree0 Disagree0

We need players like this to show we have ambitions to get promoted hopfully of we can get one or two more class players in and then more will be willing to come Pearce is a good start

Agree0 Disagree0

What do you think of this as a team made up of what we currently have and some from this list?

Lonners
Ward
M.Connolly
Pearce
Konchesky
Snoddy
McGugan
Leadbitter
Thomas/Kightly/Hammill
Becchio
McCormack

Dont worry i arent claiming 'to be in the know' but simply just a though/wish for next season lol.

Aidy White has apparently spoken to Celtic, although i heard he is signing for Tottenham

Believable8 Unbelievable42

Bad news if he goes to Celtic, as we would get no Compo (Cue another bates rant), he'll end up at either newcastle or tottenham

Agree0 Disagree0

Where ever he goes he will end up in there reserve side playing reserve team football for the season

Agree0 Disagree0

I just wish he'd make his mind up. If he doesn't want to sign for us, can he please go sooner rather than later and free up room and cash for someone who does want to play for us!

I have a great source who has confirmed Joel Ward and Green will be LUFC players by Wednesday this week.

Also said to be finalising a deal for Matt Mills too. Paddy Kenny WILL be joining along with possibilities of Clint Hill and Shaun Derry also joining on 12 month deals. Not bad signings to get us up to the PL.

Lonerghan will also be transfer listed once NW secures GK's such as Kenny and potentially Smithies!

Believable30 Unbelievable30

If u have a great source why dont you tell who the source is !

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the players mentioned exept for green hes rubbish a step back clayton is a lot better player and chipped in with 6 goals i would be shocked if green has scored that many in his entire footballing life

Agree0 Disagree0

Why even mention SOURCE when you damn well know its a load of old Boll*&ks without some cred to it. Or stick YOUR name to it if its that good {Ed013's Note - That is what we are trying to get across, put a name to your posts please. Its worth it in the long run}

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurious rumours, Matt Mills is on £30k a week at Leicester. A transfer to us is never going to happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I had a great sauce tonight. It was that Reggae Reggae on some chicken! Better than your great source! from Anonymous

Agree0 Disagree0

Really hope we do get Ward -has played a lot of games already at a young age, and in a variety of positions, a sign of a natural footballer and good athlete. His versatility will be invaluable as NW seeks to cut the size of the squad from 30-odd to 20-odd. Impressed by everything I've seen and read about him. Would be costing a lot more were it not for Pompey's current predicament.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cannot see Kenny coming to ER now QPR have stayed up
Would love to see Robbo back but wouldn't pin my hopes on that - even though Blackburn have been relegated another PL club is sure to come in for him.....but we can always hope!

I have heard a rumour of klasnic!

Believable30 Unbelievable19

Similar player to Somma, great finisher. Be happy if this was true, he's strong too with a decent record

Agree0 Disagree0

There will only be 1 striker coming in this summer so i want someone quicker than him

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi, same as I posted about Fuller. The wrong side of thirty, he may well be a great finisher, but he does not do it frequently enough for my liking.
Somma is a much better player, if he gets a good pre season and stays healthy, watch him fly next year.

Taken from the YEP we are favouries to sign Joel Ward and paul Green with both set to decide their futures this week with Ward looking set to sign within the next 48hrs.

Believable41 Unbelievable4

GREEN is a Yorkshireman and is free from July 1st so dont expect this to materialises any sooner. Other interested parties but we do look to be in the driving seat.

Agree0 Disagree0

Green is a free agent now so not sure what ur july 1st date cr*ap is all about

Agree0 Disagree0

His contract expires on 30th June, he can talk to other clubs now though and agree a deal to join on the 1st july, which can be announced as soon as possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Both are cracking players, although im concerned that we havent shifted anyone off our list yet?, Remeber warnock says he can use the money from wages freed up from player departing.....

This is from a friend of mine who works in PR at Leeds.

Warnock held crunch talks with Bates over the weekend. Apparently Ken is desperate to delay moving for too many players until the end of the transfer window in order to save on wages over the summer. On the other hand, Warnock is said to be seriously concerned that failure to show ambition early in the transfer window will result in Snodgrass declining his new contract.

Essentially, its a pretty grim situation at Leeds and we've just got to hope that Bates listens to NW. In other news, my source said letters to South Stand season ticket holders will be going out this week, inviting fans to re-locate to other parts of the stadium as the South Stand is being closed next year. The justification for this is that they believe the average spend from customers on drinks/snacks.etc is greater in the East Stand with its much improved facilities. They can also on stewarding and staffing, and additionally the corporate facilities will receive a significant overhaul.

Believable14 Unbelievable40

Some of the deals Warnock is looking at won't happen until July in any case as that is when most contracts expire as he is looking at some players who are not renewing at their existing clubs - Green from Derby being one. Also those being released by Leeds will also be paid up till there contracts expire so it avoids having too many salaries on the books.
Mixed messages from Bates and Warnock may be nothing more than an attempt to divert press, agents etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

You cant even get a ST in the south stand so your source is blatently talking b****cks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would someone in PR deliberately damage the image of the commercial operation for whom they work - point 1, this is just supposition, Bates is a penny pincher but even he can do the basic maths, hes just shed nearly £4m of wages, and will recoup some albeit small transfer fees too. That argument just hasnt tkane place, get back to your homework.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds grim and south stand is being closed because its the cheaper tickets and that fat tit want more of our money!

Mark14

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet another "in the know" person clearly making stories up.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another anti-bates post. why not get on the positivity train and enjoy the ride with nw? people take every opportunity to try drum up negative vibes..why not just enjoy whats about to happen?

Agree0 Disagree0

As one of the other posters mentioned you can't buy season tickets for the South Stand and, just using common sense, why would Bates remove 5,000 £30 seats from sale when, if we are challenging for promotion, we could sell them twice over? Why post utter garbage?

Agree0 Disagree0

You do know that Green has been released by Derby so is free to sign whenever he wants {Ed013's Note - His contract is up at the end of June. He is asking Derby to release him from it early in order to find a new club}

Agree0 Disagree0

If a player has been released before the end of their contract it's normally by mutual consent and they will have been paid some compensation. Usually about 50% of their remaining wages on their contract. Seeing as how most of their contacts expire in 6 or 7 weeks this wouldn't have been much.

Agree0 Disagree0

One problem - there are no season ticket holders in the South Stand

Agree0 Disagree0

This is no different from any other business , you dont pay wages when you dont have to, you work a notice period and start your new job. As stated in one of the replies, contracts usually run from 1st July - 30th June and hopefully all our targets are currently contracted and under 26 yrs old who can play a decent standard and not over 35's and out of contract so hence the reason we wont see too many incoming players till then. I am sure we will see a decent line up come Aug when we hopefully start with several wins and get some points on the board before our usual christmas slump !

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2012 15:16:00
Sorry, just don't believe this one in the slightest. Bates and Warnock will have agreed upfront what was available, Bates isn't stupid enough to then think he can move the goalposts on NW and get away with it.

Look at the link below on SS

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11715/7755960/Warnock-No-budget-conflict

Doesn't sound like a man who is in "crunch talks".

Macca72

Agree0 Disagree0

Strange they is no season ticket holders in the south stand

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately I've heard all of this (apart from ST's in the South Stand) is true. The south stand is getting shut and Snoddy is likely to turn down his contract offer, as are McCormack and White. The budget is also as small as it's always been; there's a reason we're going after freebies and Pompey players. {Ed013's Note - Here comes the negativity again}

Agree0 Disagree0

Talk on West Ham Forums is that Warnock is interested in Sam Baldock. Would he improve our team?

Believable22 Unbelievable21

The fun we have on this forum. He would certainly cost in excess of £1m, making the idea of Bates signing him laughable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if i he came on a season long loan think he would be a good signing, would definitely add pace which is lacking.

Leeds United have held talks with 4 players over the past week and a half according to my reliable source!

Players are believed to be Joel Ward,Danny Guthrie, Zac Whitbread and Jerome Thomas.

Neil Warnock has also upped his interest in Paddy Kenny and Shaun Derry. Hughes does not see them in his plans next season. Kenny will be available for around £200k and Derry would be available on a free. nothing confirmed yet by my source but he has said Warnock is monitoring the situation closely.

Believable27 Unbelievable10

Hopefully this is true. We will have a quality midfield then with Snoddy, Ward, Guthrie and Thomas.

Agree0 Disagree0

I really rate guthrie. can understand why he cant get a game though. down the pecking order behind tiote, cabaye, gosling

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather have Joe Lewis from Peterborough than Kenny

Agree0 Disagree0

At least these are better names than some of the dross we've been linked with lately. Guthrie is a good footballer and encourage us to get the ball down and play a bit more. Paddy Kenny is ok but would prefer Leeds to be talking to Peterborough's keeper Lewis, 24 and leaving would be a good rival for Lonerghan and a long term replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

Joe Lewis also owns a house in Leeds. Watch this space......

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy Kenny is out of contract, so why would we pay for him?

Agree0 Disagree0

No he is not. his contract runs out at the end of next season

Agree0 Disagree0

Derry has been brilliant this season and last would be great signing even at his age

Agree0 Disagree0

I went to school with Guthrie and talk from our town is that he is likely to go to someone like Villa to be closer to his family. Also his wage demands are meant to be a big reason why he will be leaving Toon, currently they will be higher than our 20k (snods offer) and he wants more, chances oh him coming are slim.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guthrie would be absolute class at this level, would be well worth matching the max wages to get him.

I would imagine plenty of lower end prem clubs would be interested though, so can't see it happening.

Macca72

Agree0 Disagree0

Pretty sure snodds offer was 15k not 20?

LJHS

Agree0 Disagree0

Fair enough If the offer is 15k then there is no chance of him signing i've heard he is on double that now. (it was me who posted that)
