To be honest 8 mill is a lot of money and would buy 2 top grade wingers so I'd be tempted.

Yes. Don't want him to go but think he will. And 8 mill sounds fair. And it's exactly 7.5 mill more than Uncle Ken ( wash my mouth out with bleach) would have sold him for

Neither one of you are wrong. Darikwa, Buckley and Lambert with the money from the sale. Others to consider too such as Henan and Barker even if loans. Maybe even Gradel if we balance the books elsewhere. Let's face it with such an adjustment in playing personnel you'd then have to seriously fancy us for a playoff spot at the least.

See I realise £8m is a lot and I'd be so tempted to sell but at the same time I can't help but look at the players we have let go due to necessity over the last 10 years or so (Milner, Delph, Gradel, Howson, Snodgrass, Cairney, McCormack, etc. ) and it would pain me to see us let another young player leave that could be a top top player in a few years if we don't need to sell. If he agrees to extend his contract I would rather keep him to build towards a great future with Mowatt and Cook et al than bring in a few players as a quick fix.
Saying that I he doesn't sign a new contract very quickly then its, sadly, an easy choice I suppose.

Lambert is a cart horse and no one is banging down buckleys door. Would much rather see younger, hungrier players with a bit of zest coming, especially at the money those players would cost the club

I think we should consider the possibility that we might sell him for 8 mil, but all the decent replacement purchases (did someone say wingers?) may have already been snapped up.
We may have 8 mil in the bank, but what good would it be if all you can buy are donkeys?

Lancaster, Lambert know where goal is but maybe he is too old. Still think he would tear it up in this division. You right about Buckley. He needs a change.

Maybe he would Georgie boy but it's a risk with lack of football and age not to mention the fat wage he'll want . Buckley would maybe be a better option but there must be younger, hungrier players out there, who'll not want as big a wage

I'd only accept 8m this season IF we had a loan back agreement and a 15/20% sell on fee in the deal, that way we are thinking of our future whilst keeping a player whose fitting into our pre-season plans very well. With 3 friendlies left before we kick off, it'd be silly to sell a first teamed now without it being highly beneficial to us in the short and long term.

I couldn't agree more with DCD6.

When selling any young player a sell on fee percentage should always be agreed.

I think the young lads will stay at least this season. It is imperative that we mount a strong and successful challenge this year. This would put us in a place like Southampton who built their team around the young talent who trusted in their club and worked together to put them in a league they belong in.
