Of course, we’ll only need to pay out on that clause if we actually sell Bate. If we continue our upward trajectory and qualify for Europe etc, and he fulfills his very evident potential, we won’t want to sell him and he won’t want to leave - everyone’s a winner- except Chelski😎.

Looks like the Toon are preparing for relegation at the moment - no incomings yet. Meanwhile, Brentford have started making solid additions and while the Canaries have lost Buendia, they stung Villa for £33m+ and brought in a decent replacement in Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen for less than half that amount and have bolstered their midfield with Billy Gilmour on loan and Pierre Lees-Melou a decent CM from Nice.
Even Watford have been busy with incomings, albeit seemingly more focused on quantity than quality, including the cast-off forward from Club Brugge, who has apparently been dining out on his brace against Barcelona a couple of seasons ago and needs to sort his head out. Even Brentford, with their focus on underperforming assets, didn’t seem to sniff a bargain in him (would of course be just typical if Emmanuel Dennis tore our defence a new one when we come up against them) . Their additions also include the wonderfully named Imran Louza - a versatile CM/ CAM/ CDM from Nantes - it’s to be hoped for him and them that his form belies his name.

Clueless why do you keep insisting Villa have been stung in the purchase of Buendia.
I think we should wait and see before we start to make any rash assumptions.
We have be talking about him for the best part of 2 years on our forum, so he is a wanted addition.
CW is spot calling him a class act, I personally think the same, I have seen him play maybe a dozen times, all excellent, with possibly 2 average performances.
Price is what you pay, quality is what you get, and that was his price.
