sky sports have stated that Leeds have joined the hunt for James meredith of york city the 24 year old is at the end of his contract and is a free agent, maybe this one will suit Bates? FREE and coming from a lower division LOW wages compared to some.
Question is ... is he any good? Many a good player has been plucked from lower league obscurity ... Keegan from Scunthorpe to Liverpool, Beckford from Wealdstone to Leeds and even Leicester are at it by signing Vardy from Fleetwood and probably releasing Beckford.

There is a very big rumour coming out of ER that the reason the money has dried up is that bates is trying to sell the club but still have a place on the board. It's coming from a lot of sources so it must have some truth in it. Colin has told bates either 'cough up' or he's leaving as he has been sounded out by a couple of clubs who may loose their manager in the close season. You may not think this is true, only time will tell

I work in the Financial Sector, strong rumour in city that a major investor is weighing up the odds to either but into or buy outright, expect a deal within next 5 weeks. Hope so as I think Bates needs to retire to Monaco and enjoy his later years !!

The reports of Joel Ward going to Crystal Palace are not correct. He has not yet decided which club he is going to. I personally think he is keen on Leeds and he is allowing them the opportunity to work out a deal.
The situation is he wants to join Leeds, Leeds are struggling to come up with the funds, Palace are his next preferred choice and will sign for them on Monday, Leeds have the weekend to find the funds to complete the transfer.

Neil since coming to our club you have impressed me . You tell it how it is and come across as an honest straight talking transparent kind of a guy. You told us what you would strive to acheive ie promotion next season, and what you will do to acheive that goal, get rid of the deadwood and get your type of players in as soon as possible.

Hi there it is I Neil warnock as you maybe blissfully unaware I do read the Leeds united forum after what is a un answerable question from you I've decided to answer the question for you. We've been busy over last 2 weeks looking for a number of certain players however I can't really answer many rumours untill there dealt with. As for quitting that isn't going to happen I've been promised a budget and thats what I'll get if I want more then players have to be sold. Shaun harvey is in charge of transfer dealings while I'm on my holiday and any unfinished dealings could yet come through. When I return from my hols hopefully things will come together rather sharp ish. Hope all Leeds fans have a good summer and get ready for a promotion pushing season next year.

No that is not the case, players regularly agree terms and pass medicals whilst still talking to other clubs, happens all the time mate.
Medicals will only go ahead if you want to sign. why would you do several medicals for different clubs? its not like your medical will change depending on who you are signing for.

With regard to Joel Ward, few Leeds fans will have any idea as to his quality, I agree. But that's not the point. If reports are true, Warnock wanted him, and the club couldn't raise the money for the fee. You say it's only one player, but what about others that Warnock might want to buy? The message appears to be - try to pick up other clubs' rejects, that are available on free transfers. We've been down that road with Simon Grayson, and we know where that ended. If Warnock wants to purchase players, it would seem, he will have to sell the club's best assets first, and then hope some decent players are still left to buy. Of course, reports on the Joel Ward saga may be wrong - if so, both Warnock and Bates should issue a statement to reassure fans who might wigh to invest their hard-earned money in a season ticket. However, I think fans considering buying season tickets should bide their time - the lack of incoming players (I don't think the club could even field 11 senior players at the moment) has a smell about it we're all familiar with. Free transfers, other clubs' players on loan - it is the smell of failure. It is important for Leeds United to remain solvent, but the purpose of Leeds United is not to break even, but to win football matches. No business flourishes without investment. I would call upon Warnock to resign now unless he has guarantees of enough investment to have a good shot at promotion. This is the only way Bates' hand can be forced. Snodgrass has gone out on a limb and told Bates this, but I doubt if he'll be around to suffer the taste of Bates' vindictive vengefulness. Warnock has a key opportunity - threaten to resign now. Otherwise, he'll be sacked within a year for not achieving the impossible - promotion on free transfers.

Not being able to get ward is a bloody disgrace im hoping its because warnock has other right backs on his want list, but if its because the club couldnt even raise 450000 pounds... That is terrible, i thought i was sensible before by not being anti-bates but this really takes the biscuit. We are trying to reduce size of squad so was never going to replace 11 players . the only way we will have a good season is by selling every player that we are offered a good amount of money for and starting from scratch.

I too like many posters here, am again worried that financial constraints and risk avoidance are curtailing the transfer activity required for the team to get into the Premier League.
Am a Leeds supporter for 43 years... I've never felt more pessimistic.
I was shocked when I did a recount and realized how long we've been out of the Premier League.
If Mr Warnock and Mr Bates are not seeing eye to eye on how to get to the premiership... then this cannot continue.
If Mr Bates is not going to be able to arrange the necessary financial conditions for FULL football success, (which means both balanced books and success in the top flight on the field)... then Mr Bates should move over and go attempt to make his own brand of success at a more poorly supported and less noble club than Leeds United.
If Mr Bates is providing reasonable if not perfect financial conditions but Mr Warnock is not satisfied and confident that he can deliver... the Mr Warnock should go.
But this needs be resolved... and resolved now.
After some panic last minute preseason transfer scrambling, we can't wait till 10 game into the season till the team gels and/or we have an idea of whether it will succeed or not.
If we do not get promoted this year... watch ticket and advertising revenues drop... and neither Bates nor Warnock should be in their current position.

It's been said below but how do we know firstly that Phil Hay has his finger on the pulse of all things Leeds United, and secondly if the reason we won't pay that much is not cos we don't have it, but because NW doesn't think he is worth that much hence the player plus money possibility with Paynter....BUT Portsamouth won't do that cos they need the money. Only a thought!

In fairness there is zilch coming out from any palace sources at all...only Leeds and Ipswich sources...and the ipswich source merely states that we are out of the running not that Palace have got him. Maybe we need to wait till its all official then we can moan
Think YEP may be wrong as not on CPFC website, keep watching for updates I suppose. But let's not over react, this is Joel Ward we are talking about not Ronaldo for goodness sake.

Warnock's now on holiday, I expect nothing now for atleast a few weeks.
I think that this money thing with Ward is actually because we don't think he's worth 450k, hence why we went in for Harte but just got rejected.
Sack the board though. all w**k.
I do think we should consider all reasons, not just as we couldn't afford it. Its common knowledge that transfer fees are normally paid in instalments. As pompy need cash up front maybe it wasnt the best desicision to spend nearlly £1 mill on two players within the first couple of weeks of the window. we will have no further income this summer unless we sell players so maybe best to hold cash back for first installments of other players that we will sign later in the summer. cup half full?

It said on Radio this morning that Ward is going to Palace after agreeing terms and undergoing a medical.

Nothing on palace rumours site only that they were looking at him and if the deal was done and press had that information then im sure that it would be on the site by now cos people cant keep quiet these days lol i still believe that warnock will get the players he needs to push on for promotion and i am glad to see that he is backing snoddy about what he said to the press about signing his new contract lets see who we get in over the coming weeks
Ward is off to Palace. He had a second meeting with Freedman on Wednesday and deal agreed.
I cant believe we can not find £450, 000 for a second signing. Is the end nigh for Warnock?

I thought he had also agreed terms with all the other clubs in the picture after Portsmouth had accepted a fee ie Leeds , Ipswich etc so im not reading too much into it until he signs for someone at which point if that aint Leeds then I dont want him anyway as I only want players who want to be here.

The rumours about the Joel Ward deal being off are not true, it doesn't say anything on the Ipswich town website about us being out of the race.

Ward is signing for Ipswich today. Phil Hay has it from a number of sources that Leeds either can't or won't raise the funds. No better source that that on here.
