Clint Hill is very much considering joining Leeds.
Can't give you a timescale because the events around Elland Road at the moment will dictate when people will be brought in and that's info I'm definitely not privy too.
I can tell you that Paddy Kenny wants to join up with Warnock again too but that's hardly news.
What I can also tell you is that Warnock and Hill have spoke on several occasions since Neil left QPR, one of which was to congratulate him on his display in the Man City game and staying up.
I'm not guaranteeing Hill's coming by the way because as I understand it, he's weighing up a squad role Premier League place or first team championship place, however recent events may have swung things in our favour.

I'm sure most of us would like things to progress quickly. Hopefully, in a matter of days. We need to get this team sorted for next season.

Lets hope Bates doesn't put silly money on the club I've heard 80 Million noone will pay that or will they?

I like many Leeds fans am very excited at what is in store for LUFC in the upcoming weeks. A potential takeover bid or investment is what many of us have been waiting and pleading for, and we are now closer than ever! However despite the hate that has circulated around Elland Road, and the Rumour sites, Twitter etc in recent times... I do believe that Mr Bates deserves some sort of credit. I mean yes; he hasn't invested what we would have liked, and yes; he may have lost more of his money in court than in building a squad ;) and many other anti-Bates reasons, but the bloke saved us, kept us debt free, made profits each season (not many clubs do), gained promotion and finished 7th and 'mid-table' respectively in a tough division. Just me that feels this way?
I do feel a takeover would be the best option, with maybe a couple of million invested for a better shaped squad. Collocated with a disciplined, experienced manager like Warnock, I can see a good 2012/13 season ahead.
I know I may get hated on for this, but still, if this is the reason for no Joel Ward, I will be happy and will respect Bates for SOME things he has done for us! RyanMOT

Believable26 Unbelievable5

I agree totally I am just worried at the timing and hope any talks are not preventing players signing. I know if we got a rich investor then maybe we will be going for better players but we cant take the risk of missing out on whoever Warnock has highlighted for the club. Any takeover talk would have been better before the season ended or after the window shuts. That said if it means another season with stability in the championship Ill settle for that.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with you. With Bates we haven't got the football club we would like but at least we still have a football club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Must agree, if it wasn't for ken Bates we could have been playing none league a few years ago, the man has to be thanked for saving us even though he hasn't invested that much

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree but Bates refuses to engage with the fans and the future fans. Dean Hoyle rode from Huddersfield to Wembley so that local kids could get transport and watch their team in the final. If Bates showed 25% of the same commitment I would be behind him 100%. Incidentally, this saddens me because his redevelopment and economic running of our club is flawless and if only he would invest in the team, embrace the fans & lower attendance charges he could be a legend.

Agree0 Disagree0

He took us into admin and threatened to liquidate if he didn't get the club back. As for the profits, if you ignore player sales we have been making a loss. Some saviour. He is just a loud mouthed leach and I will celebrate him going whether via a takeover or in a box

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not all bad, but he is mostly bad. He won't go quietly, and he'll try keep a place on the board as well as dragging out his association with the club and taking as much money as he can from it (as he did with Chelsea, read in to it). His propaganda is just unbearable now to be honest, and I hope the takeover happens over the next couple of weeks(optomistic I know...)

Agree0 Disagree0

I do agree with most of the guys post, he did save us when many would have walked away or let it slip like s Portsmouth! He had to make some tough decisions about our club that many didn't like, but he seems to have gone to far that way now and only sees negative points. As for us being competitive in this league I think that was more down to the manager Grayson than bates coz he didn't do much! Ideal situation is for him to sell up and go then people will still b able to remember him as the man who helped save this club rather than the man who slowly killed it

Agree0 Disagree0

I think bates investment in infrastructure may actually pay off

Agree0 Disagree0

At last somebody talking sense. The art of running a club economically is to ensure there is income outside the match income, which is what Bates has done. This is a legacy for the future and should the club be promoted could be seen to have been a wise investment. Do we want to go back to what we thought were good times but in effect were bad! Whatever you say about him he is a good businessman.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I do agree and some over negative posts annoy me- it's in bates interest to have Leeds doing as well as possible, but a lot of sales and paltry investment in the team has been very frustrating.
To sum up, if bates gives us a similar present he left Chelsea with, he will become a hero

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's not get carried away with all the talk of investment... Hotels and casinos I believe.. Isn't that what papa bates want to build on the west stand? Not sure this talk of investment means our immediate team.

Agree0 Disagree0

True he saved us when no -one else would however he has had his money back and then some. We have lost a lot of promising players of the future for next to nothing under his stewardship. Whilst I pray this is a takeover, I fear this is a smokescreen to delay signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose ward not coming could also be down to the fact weve been linked to peltier , must better complete right back in my eyes and same fee.

One of the richest families in the us, worth billions. Hope this is true,..would be fantastic!

Agree0 Disagree0

Worried if that's so. Could be same as the Glazers. Don't give a toss about football only money !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope it is that family combined wealth of $19.6 billion dollars

Agree0 Disagree0

Pointless speculating on who just cos they in the hotel and casino business

Agree0 Disagree0

Possibly Neil Bluhm, made much of his 2 billion fortune through Casinos. Owns casinos in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Des Plaines, Illinois, and Casino Niagara in Niagara Falls. Based in Chicago.

Agree0 Disagree0

Glazers family wealth $2.7 billion
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahayan family wealth $150 billion

Agree0 Disagree0

Instead of combined wealth ide prefer available cash cos a lot of there money will be tied up in property

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope so one of the wealthiest families in America they own the hyat chain but were not that lucky !

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally dont really want a US investor as none of them done anything so far. Middle east is best as they actually like the game and can make money off the brand over there. The quotes however from LUST suggest supporters with money which will mean no dramatic change but steady progression

Agree0 Disagree0

Let it not be gamblers... they'll not care about Leeds & football, just money income and would even gamble away our LUFC. Let it be some sensible rich fellow who understands and appreciates football. I'll be happier if we can promote youth players and buy 5-10m players on 50-70K MAXIMUM in Premiership, not ridiculous 30-40m players and 150-200K wages!

a lot of people think this might mean the end of Bates at E.R. its not always the case, investment can still come in but it doesnt mean the sign of a new chairman, it could just mean a new majority shareholder can come in with Bates still acting as a chairman, they do this at arsenal and at Sunderland before Quinn left, theres around 3/4 shareholders of investment there, as long as this investment is true and Bates wisefully puts it into building a squad for once, then ill be a very happy White!

Leeds are looking to sign Portsmouth striker Luke varney if Ross mccormack goes. also David templeton may come to tempt Robert snodgrass to stay. warnock may sign diouf depending on fans reactions and thoughts.

Believable7 Unbelievable12

To be honest, i am not excited in the least about diouf...i don't think he'll ever have the spirit or attitude to be worth remembering at ER....rather McCormack stayed, and with talk of investment, hopefully we can sign cheryl cole if thats what it takes to get Snoddy to stay...

Agree0 Disagree0

Luke varney dont make sence why let our top scorer go to sign carney whos only scored 77 gaols in 10 years or proffesional football

Agree0 Disagree0

If Ross goes it will be Beckford coming in to replace him. Proven goalscoring partner with Becchio although that's not to say that Varney won't be coming too.

Agree0 Disagree0

Templeton is a very good player. Saw him play last season for Hearts back in August and put in a good performance. Would be a good replacement for Snoddy as i think he has lots of potential.

taken from lufctalk forum this afternoon:

Latest rumour off SC site

David O'Leary, having worked out in middle east, has got a group together with Pini Zahavi tabling a deal from Aymin Hariri and his "associates" Investment Holding Group.

Deal is all but done and dusted after bates wanted more for thorpe parch as he says it has planning permission for houses and wanted £2m more that its currently valued at? There is another deal in the offing from another group i know nothing about. Bates being Bates has gone abroad no doubt to bide his time to see if the other deal comes good and to play one off against the other at a guess but is unlikely to match that of the above.

Mean time no money is to go in or out except day to day running or players already on the transfer list.

Ward can't come in due to the above, white has been promised what he wants if its done which is why he hasn't moved yet and snoddy will sign a new deal. Colin will get £20m for players and has till xmas to be in with promotion or he will be fecked off.

Believable5 Unbelievable10

Isint the stadium and thorp arch owned by a manchester property developer just curious

Agree0 Disagree0

Not at all! I just saw BBC Leeds and it's a Chicago based group

Agree0 Disagree0

20 million really come on as if not even most premiership clubs get that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thorp Arch HASN'T got planning permission for houses. Leeds have got 27 years of a lease remaining, at which point if it is not purchased by Leeds the owner can apply for planning permission for houses. Granting of planning permission would be by no means certain as the land is in green belt. JD

Agree0 Disagree0

Leeds don't own Thorpe arch , a businessman from Manchester does and Leeds rent this if you don't believe me google it, so this is obviously a load of ****

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah right ! but would be well chuffed if true (Suppose we can dream)

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would they buy thorpe arch if bates doesn't own it?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ward cant come due to him signing for Crystal Palace

Agree0 Disagree0

Isnt thorpe arch still owed the the property guy in Manchester, Leeds never bought it when they had the chance...me thinks your making this up

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry to say ken bates name is registerd in no documents to do with thorpe arch

Agree0 Disagree0

Warnock can only be given 6mill plus money from anyone he sells. New rules.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not to mention Sheikh Yourmoneymaker. Talking of which 20 million - or even 6 - is a lot to let someone who may get the Spanish Archer as a Christmas present loose on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thorp Arch is green belt and any planning permission would only last 10 years I think which would mean it would be out of date before our lease is up. It was owned by a Manchester business man but lots of belief that Mr Bates has links with whoever owns that and the ground. In terms of new rules you have several years to comply with fair play and the only punishment likely will be a fine so spend now and risk it as the turnover would go through the roof. It all needs sorting quickly otherwise we are staring down the barrel of relegation if we dont get players in and out.

Agree0 Disagree0

Globe and Mail Update

Last updated Tuesday, May. 29, 2012 10:29AM EDT

Leeds United is talking to potential new owners but the groups apparently do not include Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd.

Initial reports in the English media mentioned MLSE as a potential new owner of Leeds United. However, later reports said the company that owns the Toronto Maple Leafs denied it was planning to invest in a soccer team. This came almost five years to the day after news surfaced that MLSE was thinking about buying a team that could play in the English Premier League, with Leeds United as a potential target. However, MLSE abandoned the idea after its investigation showed English soccer could be a treacherous money pit.

Tom Anselmi, the interim president of MLSE, could not be immediately reached for comment.

In a statement on its website, Leeds United said it “can confirm that talks are taking place regarding investment for the long-term future. The club has always publicly stated that it would welcome potential investment.” The team did not identify any of the potential investors.

Leeds United has one similarity to the Maple Leafs - it is a team with a far more glorious past than present. In the last 10 years it fell into financial difficulty, which resulted in the large-scale sale of players and relegation from the Premier League. Leeds fell as far as League One, the third division in the English system, before being promoted back to the second division, The Championship, in 2010. The team finished 14th in The Championship last season but has a large fan base and still hopes to get back to the Premier League if the right investors can be found....UNFORTUNATELY DONT THINK ITS THEM..LOOKA THE TIME OF THIS RELEASE!!!!!MOT

Dont shoot the messenger but found this on another leeds forum:

"Philip Anschutz. Owner of LA Galaxy, 34th in the world's rich list, estimated wealth of $7 Billion.

A member of my family was at a BBQ the other day and told that this was one of the men behind a bid. Apparently the source runs back to Redfearn.

I'm not saying it's true or that we in any way believe this rumour, but it does tie in with a North American bidder that's apparently expected.

We were also told he makes 'Bates look like a nice, old man'. "

Someone nastier than Bates...scary
Anyway as i said earlier i pasted it from another fans forum but thought it would whet appetites

This number - £35 million is interesting - just what exactly would anyone get for that sort of money. It would have to include the ground and Thorpe Arch to get anywhere near that figure. I can't imagine the assets of the club in the Championship being worth anything like that figure. mk

Believable9 Unbelievable3

The brand and the players are assets. If our profit is 3.5m (it was that wasn't it last year?) then that would be a 10% return on and investment of 35m.

Agree0 Disagree0

Knowing our luck it will all be about investment for development of west stand/casino and nothing to do with investment in team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would possibly confirm what a lot of us already think is true that Bates already owns ER and TA!!
PeteMOT

Agree0 Disagree0

They will pay 10 or 12 times the profit, plu potential is far greater o.w

Agree0 Disagree0

You really really think they would put a club statement out after all the rumours of a takeover just to announce an investment off the west stand casino lol this is big news my friend, everything makes sense that it is a takeover

Agree0 Disagree0

It doesn't matter what league the club is in the stadium and training facilities would still be valued at the same figure. Our stadium is one of the biggest in the country.

Agree0 Disagree0

35m with option to purchase the ground which comes with ownership for 22.5m TA 7m add to that investment of say 20m over two years and you have a club back in the premiership generating 80/90m per season profits or circa 15m if run on norwich / Swansea lines - greatinvestment

This is very promising surely the club would not release an official statement unless they believed that this deal is going to go through?

I wonder what calibre of player we will be looking at now?

Obviously I dont expect us to be signing world beaters but I hope its top championship type.

Believable17 Unbelievable2

You're way ahead of yourself. Way ahead.

There are a number of very serious issues that will need to be overcome before thinking about signings, or anything of the sort, needs to be our main concern.

1) The club has openly said all along, and have again stressed in this statement, that they are after INVESTMENT. Not a takeover. Bates loves owning Leeds. The investors outlined by LUST want to own the club. Massive sticking point.

2) Any deal needs to be closed, and this is a hugely long and laborious process.

3) The nature of this investment is unknown. It could be that it is related to further development work on the ground and a casino.

4) The training ground and the stadium are not owned by Leeds United. It is likely they are owned by Ken Bates as their ownership follows very much the same pattern i.e. offshore, BVA held and operated. What will the investor do with these? Buy them? Continue to rent them? Terminate talks unless they are included?

Don't get ahead of yourself, we're in for a long boring slog here and until we have full details, we can't talk about signings at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree totally, but also, this could also be a delaying tactic by Ken Bates to delay any signings, and wait till the last minute for players who are not at any club 1 week before the season starts. He got Pearce for a bargain 500K, we only spent 500K last seaon on Pugh and look what a waste of money he has been??
Belive me, it's just a pack of rumours started by Bates and continued by his entourage of followers/ar$e lickers to keep their jobs and their mega-rich lifestyles.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im the OP, obviously I dont expect this to all be concluded in the next few days and yeah the nature of the takeover/investment is still unclear, I was merely being optimistic about the news.

However I dont agree with your unjust negativity mainly the second reply, the news has only broken this morning and already the downbeaters are out there spreading there bad vibes.

I do agree though that we need to wait and see what the next few weeks bring.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes but what does long term investment mean? Im sure the club didn't want to put a statement out but the rumours are becoming to strong and obviously don't want dealings to be out in the open, bates ain't a young chap anymore so maybe he is looking to sell, looks abit more serious than an investment into the stadium or training facilities etc, it does really seem quite promising, nobody knows the correct details yet and I'm sure that nobody will till a deal is struck, talks can always collapse and remember we have one of the most stubborn chairmans in the game, fingers and toes crossed tho, just hope that if there is a takeover then fans don't expect to see massive amounts of money to be injected into the club even to the amount that leicester have, just a slight wage structure increase and a couple of quid available to spend would be nice, more than we have at the moment

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too don't understand the negativity. Investments mean more money into the club. How can that be bad? Everton have been crying out for some in years. However i think that the fact that lust knows them is a positive as Bates cannot blag his usual bull. Also it seems that they have been talking since last week and today it was confirmed even thou no tabloids or anyone knew. This is the real deal I feel. And if you remember before everytime someone showed interest before Ken always discredited them in the media before he even talked to them exa Aussie fella last year. His silence this time is the best speech he's ever done at Leeds! Goodbye Ken! And watch out them cars in Monaco as they are a bit faster

Agree0 Disagree0

If it is only for the ground and casino, that still isn't a bad thing. it would surely free up funds within the club that were being used on the development, to go towards footballing matters. win-win either way.

Agree0 Disagree0

For all we know, the talks may have been ongoing for weeks, and may be close to a conclusion. Since when has Bates ever let anyone know that something's happening before its happened. It's always afterwards. Of course, this is still only "potential", but I can't imagin Bates allowing it to get out until substantial progress in the talks had been made. Think back to Abramovich at Chelsea. It just seemed to happen overnight. Bates knows how to keep quiet.

Agree0 Disagree0

As long as we don't do a Blackburn. Looking at Ronaldinho and Beckham, then relegated.

Further to media reports on Tuesday morning, the club can confirm that talks are taking place regarding investment for the long-term future.
The club has always publicly stated that it would welcome potential investment, but has maintained a belief whereby the quality of the investor is the most important factor in terms of the long-term development of Leeds United.
No further comment will be made at this stage.

Looks like an investor and not a new owner, if the funds are made available to spend on the team I'll be happy.

Good news Hope it's some man with too much money, only can dream.

Clubs generally have investment throughout the course of the year whether in season or not, the fact they have come out and made a statement albeit due to continuous media rumours makes me believe maybe it is part of a takeover rather than just investment. Make of it what you will, only KB will know what he wants to do unfortunately and until a decision has been made I'm sure there will be even more speculation than there already is! M.O.T

Agree0 Disagree0

But if as it states for the long term future that would read as a takeover

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact of the matter is that Ken Bates is one hell of a business man, and even with all the shady business the club is in a financially secure place.

The problem sounds that now he can't take it to that next level on the pitch, with controversy surrounding all our top players leaving over the past few years, and the lack of activity in each transfer window.

An investor seems the right way to go, so its just a case of seeing what comes about in the next few days.

All this silence and caginess is odd to only be an investment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Slightly disappointing that its not a takeover!

But i guess its a game of slowly edging your feet further under the table.

Hopefully soon enough the investors will have there feet so far under that papa smurf wont have a say in our beautiful club no more! MOT

Shouldn't get hopes up, talks of this sort can always break down, but it is brilliant news, hard not to get giddy, don't expect anything on man city scale, it would just be nice to pay abit more on wages to keep our top players and atleast a couple of million to invest in some new players.

Agree0 Disagree0

It won't happen. The groups the club are talking too want to acquire the club. The club only wants investment. This will be the sticking point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bates will be selling some of his shares to the invester and will get first pick wen he sells up 4 good

Agree0 Disagree0

Bates stalling tactics to keep warnock quite till transfer window shuts then it will be gone.

Leeds United Features The Scratching Shed Home > Leeds United > Transfer Embargo In Place Whilst Leeds United Hold Takeover Talks? Transfer Embargo In Place Whilst Leeds United Hold Takeover Talks?

posted May 27, 2012/ 81 Comments

There is growing speculation that Leeds United are in the midst of takeover discussions.

The latest round of takeover rumours suggest things are progressing rapidly and that Leeds Uniteds failure to sign anyone since the arrival of Jason Pearce is due to a transfer embargo placed on Neil Warnock whilst takeover talks are ongoing.

Its easy to be dismissive of such rumours (and indeed, I was) but Ken Bates recent radio silence does make you wonder?

An Ill believe it when I see it reaction on Twitter drew quite a few responses, many of which including The Square Ball are convinced theres something in this particular rumour.

I personally think there have always been people willing to buy Leeds United Football Club, but Ken Bates has been reluctant to sell. If thats changed and he has put the club on the market, then I have no doubts whatsoever that LUFC would attract numerous interested parties.

The fact is, there is no other club in English football whose turnover can be increased by as much and as quickly as Leeds Uniteds. For an investor looking at dipping his toes into the potentially lucrative English football market, Leeds United looks like a solid bet the clubs valuation would double if someone invested wisely and got us promoted to the Premier League.

The club have confirmed negotiations taking place with an investor.

It has to be true his mate works there and told him so. My brothers best mates long lost nans sisters son also said this was true

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats a little premature, the talks are confirmed on OS but nothing is finalised yet!

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not even confirmed on national media that we are subject to a takeover! Woke up early did you? And where is this everywhere you talk about. The only source to even confirm an interest is LUST. Way ahead of yourself. And whoever comes into the club will invest in players as we are not Pompey that we need to sell. We are sound financially is just who can get the code to Ken safe
