Leeds are after Republic of Ireland winger james McLean and it is believed he is high on cellinos wishlist.in my opinion he would be a class signing.

James McLean on 1 side Robert snodgrass on the other we would be class!

I for one would not welcome anyone at the club who shows no respect for those brave people who fought and still fight for our freedom by refusing to wear a Poppy on his shirt during the Remembrance period no matter how talented he is.

Not good enough!
Why has he been bombed out of Sunderland and then very quickly made available by Wigan. He's a tryer, but lacks quality.

Murron4746 I agree with you 100%

Quality player, would certainly be a top player for us, irrelevant of what his beliefs are! let's keep football to football and leave politics and religion out of it
If he wears a poppy or not, as much as I don't agree, it's his choice.
If Messi refused to wear a poppy, would reject him signing for the club! I think not

I don't understand why politics come into sports.
If the right player comes along (I am not saying McClean is) then should his personal choice matter?
There are plenty of coutries in the world that have symbols and days of celebrations/remembrance for various things. If an English player came to play in Ireland should he have to wear an Easter lilly?

Sorry lads but I agree with murron.
As a member of the armed forces I would never want to see McLean at the club. No matter what religion or beliefs it's a matter of insult. All players should wear it. Muslim players do, I think McLean is an person and couldn't careless how good he is. I have had to do a lot of things in Afghanistan that I didn't like doing with to regards adapting to the culture of the afghans, but I did them because everything was about hearts and minds. Remembrance Day should be a day where we forgive and remember ALL that have died IRA, UK soldiers whoever they may be.
He showed little respect to our family and friends who risked EVERYTHING for what we are today.
But in a nutshell if he is signed I will not be coming down anymore. Got no time for silly little children like James McLean.
Agree2
Disagree2
Can you really compare a footballer to a member of the armed forces?
Footballers live and are hung by the standards set by fans. Granted they are in the public eye but the fella was mismanaged. When he refused to wear the poppy his agent or club more so should have omitted him from the match day squad as being injured. No one would have been any the wiser.
There are plenty of players who have went down this avenue with not a wimper. I support Leeds United FOOTBALL CLUB and if a player will bring success to the club his beliefs and choices are irrelevant to me.

This lad already seems to have a lot of baggage. Couldn't agree more with the above statements about not wearing a poppy but also been convicted of driving at 95mph without a licence! We need solid professionals at the club not players like this.

IM NOT sticking up for McClean but remember where he's from, if your grandad or grandmother was killed by a british soldier would you wear a poppy?
HAVE TO AGREE WITH ABOVE POSTER THOUGH he's A YOUNG LAD WITH A LOT OF BAGGAGE so its a no for me too ;(
Agree2

Well said last post he's a thug. I wasn't comparing a footballer to a serviceman/woman. Obliviously you have no idea anelis how insulting that is to a member of the forces and the majority of the British public.
He is the first player to do that in the premier league enough said.

I'm sorry, but like people have said, this is a FOOTBALL club and politics should be left out of it. It is his own personal decision to wear a poppy or not. I don't care as long as he plays his heart out for the club and does his talking on the pitch.
Before jumping to conclusions about disrespect, you imagine being told that you have to wear something that honours an army that terrorised your country for 800 years, especially when he grew up in one of the worst affected places in the country by the troubles.
His choice, he's a football player and I personally think he would be a decent signing. He works hard and would give us something we don't have

Academy is closed after Sunday for 'essential maintenance'?? All staff bar 4 admin staff have been given extended holidays? Training (without facilities) has been cut to one evening a week. Not sure what is happening to the scholars? Not sure how you hold on to good coaches and young players if this is the future? Jury's out on Cleinio now for sure!

Why make comments like that when you haven't got a clue as to what's going on?, why question Cellino, he's dead right for this club so let him get on with it without sniping.
Agree9

Maybe 'essential maintenance' just means that they're making improvements, maybe academy staff are on extended holidays because the season has ended! I understand that past owners actions have made fans deeply suspicious, but there is no need to jump to conclusions.

YEP report that it is indeed cost cutting and necessary staff re located to ER - perfect financial sense! It's not just about ploughing endless funds in! we need to turn the finances around. Re open in June when squad come back from their jollies! Again makes sense not ideal but good business sense

I had heard that we have had to agree with the FA to install an outside artificial surface pitch or risk losing our Level 2 academy status and dropping to level 3?
Perhaps this is the maintenance required or a mixture of both cost cutting and maintenance?

In an owner I want what we haven't had for a long time. I want an experienced football man, I want an owner who has cash rather than one who see's us as a short term piggy bank, I want an owner who will pay off Bates' debts and will also sort out Haighs maze of inter company loans. This will take time but short term pain is needed for us to have long term gain.

Reports on Radio Leeds saying that David Haigh is being questioned by West Yorkshire Police about Misappropiation of Funds relating to the secret cameras that were installed in various areas of the club.

It's on sports mole that MC is about to sack 70 staff at Elland Road to bring the wage bill down, it doesn't say who the staff are but I guess it will be back room and office staff.

Well - here's 41 positions (http://www.leedsunited.com/about-the-academy). Add in scouts, ground staff, security, catering etc and I am sure that the academy alone can account for 70 people. Then you have first team and reserve coaches, physios etc, media, marketing, accounts etc.
70 would be a convenient number for academy staff though? Makes Mr Celinio's trimming of the books neater?

Leeds interested in Sam Hutchinson from Chelsea. Young.ish right back to cover for Byram.
Believable8
Unbelievable32
Who is interested? LEEDS, BMc, MC, or Carbone? Nobody knows who is steering the ship at the moment? Until Peltier leaves we will not be getting another right back in, just can't see us throwing money(that we haven't got) at "cover players". We need players that are going to come in as first team players and are going to make a difference, and in far more critical positions, centre mid, centre half, wings, just my opinion thou. MOT

Agree with the above, think we have more concerns than looking at another RB. Think it will b the same sort of policy than before where a lot of staff leave before coming in. Think a new GK will b one of 1st to arrive, with ashdown and cairns out of contract that leaves paddy so think a new number 1 will b coming. Bentley maybe?

What u going on about money we haven't got mc is minted so we clearly do have money!

I agree robbiebell, MC has already said our squad is far too big for this division so until MC puts his guitar down and starts giving some of the shower of brown there P45, s and clearing up room on the wage bill by offloading deadwood like the likes of Peltier and Kenny then I don't think we will be bringing in anybody to add to a already bloated squad.

Before we buy any players we need to purchase Elland Road. The rent we are paying is crippling
