So the Spirites chief is disappointed that LUFC management have commented that Chesterfield want "too much" for Cooper.

"Young left-footed centre-backs with the ability Liam has are something of a rarity in the game and we quoted a fee that reflected that. We are not prepared to let one of our key players leave for a cut-price fee . "

It appears that young right footed centre-backs with some ability come for free then. Should manage to replace Lees no problem.

Its nice that a club values their players appropriately.

Let's not let sentimentality cloud our judgement. Homegrown, Leeds to the core or not lees isn't good enough for our club. Can't fault him as a professional but the lad is a liability. Good luck to him

There are a number of players in the squad who could be considered as “not good enough for our club”. However we require a squad to challenge.
I have no problems with letting him go, but the move to do it now was both short sighted and doesn’t make financial sense. Yes ok, the fee was probably a make up on his salary. But we have no cover for the 2 CBs at the club and we don’t look like we will bring in with championship experience. God forbid, one or both gets injured and IMHO Wootton is not good enough and he was bought for £1m.
We are still well short of a decent size squad to compete in this league, fine we had to get rid of players, but the same(ish) had to be brought in to replace the holes.
I do concede that Bianchi and Berardi look good, and Doukara could rattle a few defences.
