Will it take relegation for Massimo Cellino to understand that he needs to change his ways? Or will the Massimo methods work in the end.
I am sure I don't stand alone when I say there are a lot of Leeds United fans losing patience with how Massimo Cellino is running the Club. I expect there are fans that never wanted him or never will, but I imagine there are still a portion of fans that agree with his methods and support him.
The league does not lie and Leeds are in trouble! With so many new players coming in during the summer, it is easy to count on one hand the amount that have made a good impression. There are so many that either haven't had a chance or not performed when given a run in the team. I understand that players need time to adjust in a new league, but so many players in at once cannot be good for a team that is supposed to be in better hands and heading to the Premier League within 2 years!
Leeds United have a big wage bill, but lack Championship experience. The answer to this is not to get rid of the highest earners and replace them with a numerous amount of players on less money that simply aren't good enough for the league, because this will put you in a position that Leeds currently hold! You try and keep your best and experienced players, albeit on a higher wage, but have a smaller squad, unlike Leeds currently have.
The latest event in the Cellino era has been taking place over the last few days (maybe even weeks) and has arguably one of Leeds United's most consistent players this season leaving for a top 6 Championship Club, thought to be Derby! Not only moving to a promotion chasing Club, but the rumours have it that it will be a free transfer! Now, who can blame Stephen Warnock for leaving in what I can only call a sinking circus and why not move to a promotion chasing Club on possibly more money! The point is, if so many people hadn't messed around with Leeds United, a massive massive club, then maybe that top 6, promotion club would have been Leeds and these players would be happy to stick around.
I understand that there needs to be a wage structure, but you cannot undo years of bad work in a short period of time and expect to be a high flying Club. If things had been done gradually then Leeds may have been in a better position than they currently are.
If the results continue like they are, will Neil Redfearn be the next casualty of the Cellino era? Who will take the job next, Punch and Judy!
I have faith in the youngsters at Leeds United, but they cannot do it alone and if Warnock leaves there is little Championship experience left to try and steer them away from relegation. Does Massimo think that these youngsters will stick around or will he hope that Clubs will come in for them with big money offers that he couldn't refuse and replace them with unknown players that simply can't cut it in the Championship or even League 1. He may have a small wage bill and a big wallet, (Ross McCormack money is filling a hole somewhere!) but he will have little supporters left at the club as they head into disarray!
One thing is for sure, Massimo Cellino does not want relegation, but will it take that for him to realise that his methods are not working. I stick by what I have said from the start, he needs a right hand man that knows the Club inside out and somemone that will give him the correct advice to assist in sending Leeds up the table and onto better things.
I hope that I am wrong and the Massimo Methods work, but if not it could be back to the luxury days in League 1. Simon Grayson anyone!!!
