Archer not even in Southampton squad v Ipswich. Is he off somewhere?

Dunelm

1.) 01 Feb 2025 19:53:49
If he's coming here he will have to try hard to dethrone Piroe and Joseph.

2.) 02 Feb 2025 09:09:59
Agree Mo. Piroe was excellent. Involved, clinical and didn't drift out of the game as he sometimes does. Good to see Joseph get on the score sheet. It should boost his confidence and remind him to keep making those runs in to the box. We have the wingers to provide the service and chip in with goals as well.
Scoring isn't usually the issue but I think we always look a better team when we've two dynamic full backs on the pitch. Bogle and especially Junior looked dangerous and link well with the front line.
Lot of rumours about a signing or two before the deadline but if I had a choice I'd buy a full back who can defend but also has the energy and pace to attack. The FB's put in a shift and although Byram and Wober are sound they don't have that threat going forward.

As much as I like Bamford and what he's done in the past, it seems that he's reached the point where he can't be consistently fit. Gelhardt has gone on loan so the leaves Piroe and Joseph. Piroe is the standout as Joseph has talent but not found a way to deliver it. There are glimpses but nothing consistent. There is a definite need for a striker. Lath and Ihenacho are out of our league financially at the moment. Louie Barry is a good alternative with a good pedigree and scoring in League 1. He can't score any less than Joseph?

Need for a centre back if Pascal's hamstring rules him it for a couple of months plus. Farke knows Omobamidele so that's his call.
Need for a full back so maybe Mumba might be another decision for Farke.
We've missed out on the likes of Burrows in the past.
Buendia maybe available short term.

Alvyn Sanches is mentioned as another midfield alternative but don't know enough about him apart from his reputation which is good for a young player.
Ben Sheaf? Ok but not exciting.
Goodrham at Oxford keeps coming up. Another with potential but maybe not in the area we need at the moment.

The thing is, it Will be those clubs who have strength in depth and/ or avoid a big injury list who will get promoted. Burnley are adding to their squad and I think the Blades will as well. Not concerned about the rest. We are a bit thin up front, at the back and a number 10.
With regards to GK. That won't change. We'll have to put up with our eccentric Frenchman.

Dunelm

1.) 19 Jan 2025 07:20:56
A professionaal ambitioys successful club and hierarchy would never put up with a woeful ( or as you put it " eccentric" gk.

As for Farkey he does so in his doubling down to try to save face

of his oft repeated wholly deeply erronoeous" Meslier is best keeper in Champo" gaff.

2.) 20 Jan 2025 13:41:13
I agree Dune - can't see a new keeper arriving this window.

3.) 21 Jan 2025 13:27:01
That first sentence is hilarious. Try stand up dune.

30 Aug 2024 21:05:21
Has Schmidt signed yet?

Dunelm

1.) 30 Aug 2024 21:52:03
That was my big question!
Reckon it’s delayed, so as to be the final news of the night, looking at it cynically! Still a better window than most, for incomings, at least.

2.) 30 Aug 2024 22:25:17
Signed. 4 year deal. Good signing imo. Very offensively minded!

3.) 30 Aug 2024 22:45:39
It's done. He has signed, unless the BBC are taking Schmidt.

4.) 30 Aug 2024 22:45:51
He's signed.

5.) 30 Aug 2024 22:50:03
Yes he signed club have also confirmed that ends Leeds transfer business in or out for this window.

6.) 31 Aug 2024 11:28:46
Willy has.

25 Aug 2024 19:56:05
No info re Manor Solomon. It's dragging on so either there's a problem with the medical or other clubs are making offers and his agent is weighing up if there are better options. When it becomes complicated it's better to move on and look at the next choice.

Dunelm

1.) 25 Aug 2024 21:03:47
BBC saying the deal is done and dusted.

2.) 25 Aug 2024 21:13:18
Also just heard a rumour Leeds have another option on a permanent who is higher up the wish list who has just been made available. Certainly something has happened, if all was fine it would be announced by now.

3.) 25 Aug 2024 22:12:46
Might just be as simple as waiting for Monday tho?

4.) 26 Aug 2024 07:28:04
Agree with Bright, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just that it was Sunday (and today being a Bank Holiday similarly may not see an announcement either) .

5.) 26 Aug 2024 10:17:04
His agent has stated he got thro the medical fine.

6.) 26 Aug 2024 11:06:10
Aaaaand, now it sounds like there’s a sticking point over the loan terms……??.

7.) 26 Aug 2024 11:40:00
Send him on his way. To hard basket. Next.

8.) 26 Aug 2024 12:02:44
Yeah looks like we have other targets lined up now, surely we would have known the finances involved before he arrived for medical, smacks of us either getting cold feet over something picked up in the medical or a player not previously available now is.

9.) 26 Aug 2024 13:22:52
Word is that we prefer Benson from Burnley?

10.) 26 Aug 2024 13:37:28
Benson isn't good enough for Leeds unfortunately.

11.) 27 Aug 2024 11:43:39
In your opinion of course.

Of course we want to be promoted but we should want to go up as Champions, not runners up.
We're capable of winning all three matches, especially as two are at home. However, Bristol may be desperate to consolidate their play off place and the finale against a team that may or may not have anything to play for except pride and a contract.

Some, however, might argue that's a dangerous combination.
A lot will depend on Mondays result v the Potters but at the moment I hope the Blades win, put some pressure on Burnley and give us a cushion at the top. I don't want the Clarets to win all three remaining and maybe take top spot by a small margin.

Dunelm

1.) 19 Apr 2025 11:12:58
Defo want to be champions but definitely don't want blades to win! That would lead to more squeaky bum time. Let's get promoted then become champions.

2.) 19 Apr 2025 11:42:48
If we are already up then zero nerves should make games easier. A draw in the Blunts game and a win Vs Stoke would be the best scenario.

3.) 19 Apr 2025 12:02:50
Darlow in goal all season we would have already been confirmed Champions several games ago.

4.) 19 Apr 2025 12:24:41
Promotion 1st please! Don't want blunts to win, God forbid they do and we loose.
Don't even want to go there ?.

5.) 19 Apr 2025 12:26:39
100% Agree Alf - that's the best option; guaranteed promotion and probably Champions.

If Sheffield win, then everything still on the table; that could end up very "Leedsy".

So, we just need the Blunts to drop points on Monday and we win; period.

Hopefully, Bristol City would have secured their spot by the time they play us; in any event, I think we will beat them anyway.

6.) 19 Apr 2025 13:39:20
Love to be champions but also don’t care in the sense that promotion is a game changer and all that matters.

7.) 19 Apr 2025 14:19:36
3 points on Monday and Burnley to draw best results. Imagine the atmosphere v Bristol if promotion is confirmed.

8.) 19 Apr 2025 15:16:18
Complete hypothetical BS Baz. It's impossible to know, so a futile statement to make. And you have the cheek to prattle on endlessly about an adjective OP used once after Burnley signed Jonjo Shelvey!? ??.

9.) 19 Apr 2025 15:38:47
AIMO Brighty.
Facts remain since Darlow came in 10 points from 12 and no goals conceded due to gk error.

10.) 19 Apr 2025 16:53:38
No doubt clean sheet down to Darlow ?.

11.) 19 Apr 2025 17:12:08
Fair enough Baz. It just reads like a statement of fact. Opinion it is.

12.) 19 Apr 2025 17:24:40
Hopefully Plymouth will want protect their players, injury wise, so that they can keep their value.

13.) 19 Apr 2025 17:40:49
Darlow could easily have been sent off; got mugged in his box and last night pushed his save right into the path of an Oxford striker if he had been more switched on.

Don't get me wrong, we all want it to work on the goalkeeping front, but let's not pretend all our issues have been solved.

It could be as easy to say we have won the last three because James has been injured? That would of course would be a silly thing to deduce. Facts are, we are top because the Blunts had a terrible week, nothing more, nothing less.

14.) 19 Apr 2025 18:02:47
It is and always has been in our hands Mon braves. It was Leeds that knuckled down and still secured points during a stutter. Its Leeds that had the fortitude to then string 3 wins together and it will be Leeds that secure promotion and a title. What the others do is up to them, it matters not to us, but if things pan out well, the promotion party against Bristol will be a riot ?On to glory bruvvers an sisters UTWDTP.

15.) 19 Apr 2025 18:32:42
Can't see what all the fuss is about. It's surely simple. All we need to do is win our remaining games and up we go! what's so difficult?

16.) 19 Apr 2025 20:54:57
Agree 100% Leodis. Finish with a bang, and say goodbye to the champo with 9 points from 9. Jobs a good 'un!

17.) 20 Apr 2025 07:10:08
Darlow in goal for the whole season and improving it is pure hypothesis and is based on zero facts.
Basically the post means nothing but only to falsely enhance your egotistical agenda.

18.) 20 Apr 2025 10:08:43
To add to that it is no different to saying, if we had played Schmidt all season rather than Firpo, we would’ve won this league easily.
Absolute nonsense comment, what you should be doing is praising Farke for his decision making rather than your constant hindsight and forever changing opinions.

19.) 20 Apr 2025 11:32:44
The goalkeeper ( not left back fgs) position is THE most important position on pitch OP. Jeez.

20.) 20 Apr 2025 12:46:00
8 thumbs up for that hypothetical nonsense? Looks like someone has caught Walter disease.?
Very sad indeed.

21.) 20 Apr 2025 15:40:52
Don’t worry Brighty
There’s enough of us who think differently!

13 Mar 2025 08:35:19
The assistant referee is the same one who disallowed a goal for offside v Coventry. Thought it was a tight call BTBH I have more problems with the referee, Dean Whitestone.
In 22 games he's had 74 yellows and 1 red card. Last night none. Maybe trying to get his average down? There's a difference between letting the game flow and keeping control and protecting players.
Missed the blatant penalty calls.
Keith Hackett said the ref shouldn't have delayed play when there was pushing and shoving at a corner but apart from that he had a good game! Must have nodded off just after kick off.

Dunelm

1.) 13 Mar 2025 09:41:55
Completely agree Dun, and how did the defender get away with the forearm smash on James at the end!

2.) 13 Mar 2025 10:17:26
More terrible officiating for LUFC.

3.) 13 Mar 2025 12:09:56
Yet another phallus jockey ref….

09 Mar 2025 22:38:23
There's a lot of banter about how we're badly treated by referees and Mancunian ones in particular and how Sky try to undermine us with kick off times. I think most clubs in the Championship would complain about the standard of refereeing and the reason we have early kick-offs is because we're top of the division. Who wants to watch Plymouth v Derby on a Saturday lunchtime?
We were awful today and bullied by a team with much less ability. Very scrappy game which suited Pompey and we didn't have the pressure in the second half which we've come to expect. We had our chances but didn't take them so we got what we deserved.
I think Burnley will be champions because of their defence. 10 goals conceded and we're the next best with 23. They've now started to score more so combined with their defence I think they are favourites although they're in third place at the moment.
Regarding selection. I think Ao and Rothwell should start. No point been negative. I would also "rest" Aaronson and try to find an alternative no 10. Willie, Raz or Solomon. Not sure which ( sort out on the training ground) but BA has either been worked too hard or hasn't got the ability for a no 10.

I said before the WBA game that the hard work starts now and we haven't grasped it. Hopefully 6 points v Millwall and QPR will put us back on track to automatic promotion.

Dunelm

1.) 09 Mar 2025 23:59:18
QPR away is the classic example of a bogey fixture for us.

2.) 10 Mar 2025 00:52:47
Some good points well made Dune.
Definitely concur on positive changes needed to starting line up
My line up vs Millwall

Meslier ( would love someone better)
Bogle
Rodon
Pascal
Firpo ( or Schmidt)
Tanaka
Rothwell
DJ
Gnonto
Rama
Piroe

rest Solomon to bench
dont want to see BA or IG start in remaining games this season.

3.) 10 Mar 2025 01:04:16
and yesss it wouldn't surprise at all now if the Desperadoes ( aka Burnley ) finish as Championes.

4.) 10 Mar 2025 05:26:34
You only wish they would as yet again, it suits your agenda rather than supporting your own team.
Very sad.

5.) 10 Mar 2025 12:04:03
Nah top 6 OP

However after your very unwise dismissive comments of Burnley it wpuld be so typical for them to do so.

01 Mar 2025 11:19:59
The hard work starts now. Don't want to give the chasing two any encouragement. No complacency. At them from the beginning. AO and JR to start with Gruev on the bench.

Dunelm

1.) 01 Mar 2025 11:39:46
Good call Dune. agreed.

2.) 01 Mar 2025 14:29:04
Oh well that don’t go to plan move on next game.

3.) 01 Mar 2025 14:50:22
Albion are the draw specialists, and we've had a run of very hard games.

Wanted the win of course but will take a point. Pressure is on the others to catch us, and both Blades and Burnley have got far trickier fixtures than we have! (What was I saying about not looking over our shoulder earlier on today? ) Oh well, onto the next match:)

4.) 01 Mar 2025 14:54:40
Can’t win them all.

5.) 01 Mar 2025 15:34:17
Agree Berm, but that was a really poor performance. We haven't hammered home the advantage we got after Monday.

6.) 01 Mar 2025 15:42:55
Think looked a game too many, we looked tired both mentally and physically, but have always thought Tony Mowbray was a wily old coach and they were a very organised side, take the point and rest up.

7.) 01 Mar 2025 15:44:57
I agree we was but off the boil but that happens. They scored a good goal and defended well.

8.) 01 Mar 2025 17:07:22
lackadaisacal limp perfomance

and

annoying goal to concede by LUFC unnecessary foul and freekick given away with defending set pieces an LUFC achilles heel under Farkey ;

then our 6 foot 6 gk positioning off his line too much ; more further back that was very saveable

Still take the point after lots of important wins in a row.

9.) 01 Mar 2025 17:21:10
What Class and Baz say.

10.) 01 Mar 2025 17:35:25
You not read the stats baz on early post. We are flying and the best we have done

That would suggest we have no Achilles heel, no team is perfect but this team is pretty close to it for the level we are at

Best championship season ever, hard to complain although you manage it … a lot.

11.) 01 Mar 2025 18:25:08
Blades won so closed gap to 3 points Pompey next week is huge.

29 Jan 2025 15:18:02
Looks like the Wilder has added another to his squad. Defender from the Tractor Boys. That makes four so far.

Dunelm

1.) 29 Jan 2025 15:49:22
Burnley four also, Sunderland one to date, but a very good one, Boro look to have enjoyed a strong window but would need an incredible run to join the automatic party.

Our powder remains dry, whether that’s carefully considered shareholder management or football club management, only time will tell, recent history including our own playoff record gives credence to those who do feel a level of anxiety.

I’m trying to think of 49ers greatest contribution to date, it’s probably hiring Farke who has performed miracles on their behalf otherwise I’m struggling.

2.) 29 Jan 2025 16:06:44
Wilder also signs extension until 2028

Wilder mocked by Leeds fans but who of Wilder or Farkey outlasts the other. An easy answer imo

L.

3.) 29 Jan 2025 17:18:49
Farke in my estimation.

I think you have to try and look what kind of squad we have now compared to last season.
Although we don’t have Archie, Rutter and Jimmy we are definitely a far stronger squad with technique, quality and experience. It’s these elements that make us different and more equipped to win the Championship this time.

Blades and Burnley I believe have bought nothing of real substance to make a big difference in their challenge and are to me just panic buys, because they have no answers to better us. They know we are by far a better team in this league.

So the way I see it is whatever happened last season in respects of transfers or anything else, it has no real comparison or relevance to this season’s quest for promotion.

4.) 29 Jan 2025 17:37:52
Oh Opti, how I wish I had one tenth of your optimism.

5.) 29 Jan 2025 17:54:42
Err OP re your Burnley and Sheff Utd " know that Leeds have by far a better team in the league"

In which case Farkey is seriously underperforming as LUFC coach

as Sheff Utd have accumulated the same number of points (60 points) as Leeds Utd etc with a far weaker team.

6.) 29 Jan 2025 18:45:33
What OP said.

7.) 29 Jan 2025 19:24:21
29 games in
5pts better off than Bielsa in 2nd season!
Just saying!

8.) 29 Jan 2025 19:52:04
Baz i'm not a believer like you in romping leagues by 20 point margins. We have what’s needed to win this league, that i'm very confident about.

9.) 29 Jan 2025 21:01:02
What OP said.

Sky Sports are saying £10m plus. At the moment that's a good sell when you look at his stats.
Hopefully last Saturday will show him that if you keep making those runs into the box you'll score a lot more with the service we can provide from the wings. Only then will he be a top striker. At the moment he's more of a nuisance to the opposition.

Despite an injury scare it looks like Lath will leave Middlesbrough for Atlanta for an inflated fee. They'll maybe be looking for a replacement striker despite signing Whitaker and Wolves could well be in the market if Cunha pushes for a move to Arsenal who are in greater need than us.
Like many of the posts it's a concern that it's all left so late. The others have strengthened and Wilder is still saying we're in the market a CB, their fifth signing. They've completed with us and have now added half a team. What have we done? Sold and loaned out although they were probably correct decisions.

Let's get the Championship title first. Nobody remembers the runners up. Well within our grasp. They just need to demolish Bristol and then the Pilgrims. Then the hard work starts.
Recruitment is the key to staying up and establishing a Premier League place. It's not an entitlement, it's bloody hard work. Just ask Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich. The gulf is wider than the last time we made it.

To put it in context, Leicester spent £40m with the best team last season, Southampton 80 and Ipswich 150. Even 150 is unlikely to be sufficient to keep them up.

It is a bit premature to talk about DF being unfit to be a Premier League manager but whoever we have it's a bit of a lottery to stay up. We've had one chance to establish ourselves but messed up the second season.
McMk at Ipswich was lauded for his recruitment and man management but that hasn't worked out. Van N had a good reputation and he's done nothing and Southampton changed and brought in an Italian who wasn't any better.
You need a good defence and a great striker who will get you enough goals to pick up sufficient points. Both need bolstering at GK, FB and CB.

I don't think that will happen. DF basically sticks to his team and he put Amps in because he regards him as his first choice. He wasn't sharp today and it was harsh on Ao. Poor performance and it needs a shake up.
I'd like Willie at no 10 and Ao to start.
Could put Darlow in (unlikely) but Meslier's confidence would be shot. Whatever decision is made I think the Frenchman is finished at Elland Road at the end of this season. Makes some great saves but his poor ability with crosses, his lack of physicality and his decision making result in too many fairly basic mistakes.
