Like London buses, no posts for ages and then.

Carlos Corberan, name linked with the Huddersfield job. I'd like him to stay and be part of the premiership coaching team and category one academy team. Don't think a job with Huddersfield offers much for the cv and could easily be out of a job by Christmas. For me, he has been part of our success over The last few years and he deserves to be part of the premiership experience. Hope Bielsa wants him to stay.

1.) 20 Jul 2020 14:28:36
Agreed Spanish. Just posted similar, with out catching up first! Doh!

2.) 20 Jul 2020 17:56:01
Spaniard Could not agree more. It's a downward backward move for CC at this juncture. Radz spoke about aiming for PL stability. Don't see how that's achieved by allowing CC to go. CC shouldn't be allowed to leave until after first season back in PL.

08 Aug 2019 10:11:34
Well guys, I've just got a feeling that today is going to be such a good day that even Wex will be happy! Ok, well perhaps not that good but you never know!

French very tall goalkeeper in, Eddie on his way down the M1 and I think he is an excellent piece of business! Then the Italian Irish connection. Kent would really start to get the champagne opened but the one that might settle a few defensive nerves on here could be Cameron Vickers, perhaps, perhaps something that might have been mentioned during the Clarke negotiations.

If all of that happens, I think it's been an incredible window, first three and it's ok, kent would make it very good!

At least with the cut off at 5pm, we don't even need to think about going to bed!

1.) 08 Aug 2019 10:34:20
Well just read Phil Hay and he is saying Eddie and the French goalie and that’s the lot! He is very rarely wrong and doesn’t normally predict unless his sources are good. Let’s see!

2.) 08 Aug 2019 10:38:15
Spaniard Looks like CCV going elsewhere and according to Phil Hay we're only signing Eddie today and then we're done for the summer window.

3.) 08 Aug 2019 11:07:49
Disappointly think you’re spot on George

Looks like others have done or doing decent business

Scott Carson would have been useful and our “relationship” with Spurs and Poch seems non existent despite the hype.

4.) 08 Aug 2019 11:39:48
Suppose we shouldn’t be surprised

MB wants 18 players plus U23s as required

Roofe and BPF out, two in, job done.

5.) 08 Aug 2019 11:47:40
Scandalous window. Another two loans which will probably only cost a couple of million means that Radz and Orta finish up with around £20million profit while we get a bunch of loan players that may or may not work out for us.

6.) 08 Aug 2019 12:44:42
theres certain positions where it shouldn't be a case of we will wait and see how it goes alf, Basically the spine of the team, and here we are again with that very scenario about to be played out, kiko does be all over the place, and if he is dropped then we WILL be told this new young lad will take time to adjust to UK game, all the while points will be dropped . Fingers Crossed the lad hits the ground at a 1000 mph,

12 Jul 2019 08:04:05
So shaunessy and Pearce not featuring in the two games in any form . Assuming that means thank you and goodnight?

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:44:04
Spaniard Nessy just isn't good enough. Pearce is but doesn't fit the Bielsa style. He's composed but a tad slow for the system. I'd sell Nessy if a fee can be obtained and loan out Pearce as he could be useful to us in the future.

12 Jul 2019 08:00:36
Ok next up for the gamblers and guessers! Who won't be on the plane to Australia! Sounds like bit of a fight going on with the commercial boys and reported that Bielsa wants to keep the new boys and late returners training hard and not making the trip, including a number from last night. That sounds like a good plan to me. Also assuming no Roberts and Ayling. Perhaps a good idea not to take any CBS as well! Not sure papa Hernandez needs a trip to Australia either. Wonder if there are any good CBS out there who could come back with us?

1.) 12 Jul 2019 11:09:00
Ausman and others over there may know better, but as far as I can tell there are no decent CBs playing for Western Sydney Wanderers (their best appears to be Dylan McGowan, who I would not pick ahead of Struijk) and not even any across the city at their more illustrious neighbours Sydney FC.

2.) 13 Jul 2019 03:28:23
Nobody here good enough.

08 Jul 2019 21:37:30
When Bielsa talked about staying, he would have made it very clear what he wanted, what the preferable and positive sales could be. It obviously wasn't a surprise that Pontus would go, and in that knowledge. Kitching, Aappo and Paudie were let go, which means that even with no Pontus, they weren't in the plans. Shaunessy, hasn't gone any where, so, although it would be a surprise to me, he might be featuring preseason.

Likewise it wouldn't be a surprise that we would have offers for JC, KP and Roofe!

Point is, there will be a plan and Bielsa will have ideas for how he can use the squad that he appears to be fine tuning. Like Raggity says below, he deserves the chance. Let's see how we start to play some football.

1.) 09 Jul 2019 10:58:53
Damn you are your profound logic Spanish! 👍🏻.

2.) 09 Jul 2019 12:42:37
Spanish if the plan is to go with Cooper, White and Struik plus makeshifts then most would agree it’s a daft plan . If they pull a top quality replacement out of the hat, then that’s a different story . Problem is Bielsa was on record last year as being happy with the numbers in central defence . He’s now swapped Pontus for White, so I suspect in his myopic eyes all good .

3.) 09 Jul 2019 15:30:51

As the manager of Leeds United Football Club, do you think it would be a good idea to sit in a media meeting and pronounce that he thinks his centre backs are not up to it?

This is what you think he should have done?

So how do you think that will motivate Cooper, Jansson, Beradi, Struik, Halme and Diaz?

What support would they have given Biesla for the rest of the season?

Also, every agent of every centre back would have been beating down his door. And ever club with a reasonable centre back would be inflating his fee.

4.) 09 Jul 2019 17:48:47
Axe incorrect . Even the board last Summer tried to persuade him to go for Bartley . He wasn’t interested . His school of thought is pretty much anyone can make a job of CB if they can use the ball . Fine in South America or may be even Spain but not on a wet Wednesday night at the Den it’s not!

Adiós Pablo! Pablo's time at the club coincided with my time in Yorkshire and ability to watch live games again. To me he has been a massive catalyst for change in the club and the most impressive footballer I saw during that time! I would have loved to think he could have stayed involved in the club in some capacity but Spain clearly calls! There are so many wonderful Pablo moments but his tears after the Wigan, Brentford and Derby games to his wild celebration at Swansea mirrored exactly how I felt and behaved. Interesting that not yet clear where he is going and Castellón, the club he started at and is connected with currently sit in the third relegation place in liga 2 with two tough games left. Can't imagine he would want to play in the regional league 2 B. But thankyou, and good luck! You will always be remembered by me!

1.) 21 May 2021 13:11:38
We should have allowed him to return to Castellon in Jan to help them stay up.

Great player and vital part of our success and history. Shame we didn't get him when he had a few more years left.

16 Apr 2021 21:04:54
Well done to the under 23s! Great season of football, deserved promotion and that brings the very best under 23 teams into play for the year ahead. I think this is a very big step forward in the clubs development, better quality competition for effectively the reserve team! Congratulations everyone involved in making this side of the club important!

1.) 16 Apr 2021 21:37:35
Fully agree Spanish.

2.) 16 Apr 2021 22:06:53
The first team need a bigger bench. Half this team are knocking on the door. A great performance, they were sailing along and then remembered who they were. Leeds do not win easy. Give them a chance, go down to ten and defend for your life.

23 Mar 2021 08:06:15
Watching the under 23s yesterday made me think about the talent that the club has on its books outside the first eleven.

Last years under 23s seem like history now but we still have, Edmondson, Gotts, Stevens. McAlmont, hoseannah, Bogusz, Mujica and I'm sure I've missed a few out on loan. For me possibly only gotts and McAlmont have any chance of getting back into the Elland road picture.

From this years bunch, you've got, Geldhert, Greenwood, Summerville and Cody with Jenkins, Cresswell, Huggins.

Add into that Poveda, Davis and Shackleton who I'd include as current first team squad regulars.

It would be nice to see all of the above given a chance during pre season training and friendlies before loan decisions are made for next year.

One advantage of our likely under 23 promotion this year is next year we will be playing against the top clubs and top academies. Imagine that will see an increase in the quality of play at that level.

Exciting times for the club!

1.) 23 Mar 2021 11:16:07
The only problem Spanish with the way the U23s generally dominate their opponents it’s difficult to properly assess Caprille and whether he could do back up role to Mesellier?

2.) 23 Mar 2021 12:04:45
Agree Spanish great times head

Class you are right regarding the keeper but I have on occasion seen him make some great saves and play well . I think he is good back up.

3.) 23 Mar 2021 12:17:03
Spanish, all those you named checked above are still going to be U23 next year. I would think they will all be recruited to the squad that will be pitting its talent against the best U23 squads in the world. I can't see us allowing them to sit on the bench for Championship and League One teams when we are going to be up against it week in and week out next year.

4.) 23 Mar 2021 16:28:24
The best for some of them next season would be for us to play hardball and loan them out, but only to an attacking pressure style team. If that is not Championship then it should be a top European team. Anything else is doing them a disservice.
With our success and new money we are turning into a buying club (because we can) to solve our positional problems. Take Van Aanholt etc. instead of Leif Davis for instance, which takes us back to, giving the kids a meaningful chance asap.

22 Mar 2021 07:44:21
Guys, if defending better at corners is as easy as some posters on here make out, why is it that a professional coaching staff and professional footballers haven't been able to work it out! Perhaps it's not as simple as that?

It's obviously going to be an area that other teams prioritise because in games where they don't get a lot of the ball it's their best chance to score.

If we get a stable defence and a quality left back, I think things will improve but it's never going to be the strongest point of Bielsas teams. If it was he'd be better at doing it by now.

There might come a point when that defensive fragility is too much of a concern and Bielsa goes, but don't think we're there yet!

I'm happy for us to improve our defending at corners just as I'd be happy to see us improve our strike rate, but overall I'm more than happy with how we play and the results we are getting. I love the way We play, it's 90 plus minutes of exciting attacking football from start to finish, often at both ends! You don't employ Bielsa then force him to have a defensive coach!

I honestly think you either get Bielsa or you don't, a bit like marmite! I do, others don't and I can understand that. For me and for this phase of our premiership development, Bielsa will do us fine. The key will be what and who comes next.

1.) 22 Mar 2021 09:01:36
If you are saying that Bielsa is not a defensive coach then I have to agree. His primary focus is attack, and long may that continue, however my gripe is that the defensive problems are easy to minimise. It just takes time, and practice. I don't believe sufficient of either, is being applied. It looks like set piece training is an afterthought at Thorpe Arch. If it is not the Big Mans forte then all I ask of him is that he delegates the task to a First Class defensive coaching team.

2.) 22 Mar 2021 09:12:50
Never said it was easy. Leeds just get it wrong far too often. Premiership class players should be able to cut down the goals conceded in this context. Its not that we concede goals we look all over the place even when we don't.

3.) 22 Mar 2021 09:39:56
Does anyone really think that a first class defensive coach is going to get appointed to Bielsas coaching team? Just not going to happen, be like Bruce Willis hiring the worlds most expensive hairdresser!

Can’t imagine many defensive coaches wanting the job, too many nightmares!

If the improvements come they are going to come as part of the existing coaching.

4.) 22 Mar 2021 10:20:29
Good post spanish, whilst I agree with majority of your post, the corners/ set pieces issue is now a clear +present danger to us .

Managers know that's our achilles heel and know that's a direct route to goal against us .

We can't continue to just gloss over our lack of structure at corners, by accepting it's just a bielsa flaw . Bigger teams will expose this time +time again, so if we are serious about establishing ourselves and eventually competing for trophies we HAVE TO SORT IT OUT .

5.) 22 Mar 2021 10:36:26
Answer to problems, don’t give the ball away so often as we do when passing and don’t concede corners. We don’t need a defensive coach. Also I do believe it’s got into the players heads that they can’t defend set pieces and they simply panic. How difficult is it to defend a set piece for a professional footballer?

6.) 22 Mar 2021 10:56:01
Spanish, as always you are a calm authoritative voice of reason and enlightenment

However, I can see what your detractors are saying about out lack of domination at set pieces and I believe we already have the answers in our recent history.

We buy Kyle Barkley, Pontus Jansson and Chris Woods. If memory serves me right, in a Gary Monk managed team, they provided all the dominance at set pieces that Leeds United needed. I believe we conceded the fewest goals by that route in the division for that season, even given our post-Christmas collapse.

Actually, hold that, isn't Barkley unable to get in to the defence of a Big Sam managed team that is leaking in goals left, right and centre?
Isn't Jansson playing his football in the Championship for the 5th year on the trot? Isn't Woods behind our own Patrick Bamford in the goalscoring charts, the attribute he was actually bought to do.

On second thoughts maybe having a few big, tall stumps who can head a ball but can't contribute to the bigger picture isn't such a great idea.

Here's a better idea. Let's buy really really good big defenders. Van Dyke etc. Mind you spending all our money on one player (who might get injured for a whole season) and then not being able to afford the jewels like Raphina and the like could spoil the enjoyment of watching Leeds for season ticket holders who spend a vast amount of money on our obsession.

It's never easy, is it!

7.) 22 Mar 2021 11:47:53
Good debate, I’ve never done any sports coaching but I’ve done a lot of business and sales coaching. Here there is always a lot of debate about whether you coach people’s weaknesses or strengths! Sometimes you can more by improving the strengths than the weaknesses. With our team what’s best improving the strike rate of shots to goals or defending at corners. Perhaps if we upped the strike rate we wouldn’t need to worry about the corners! I suspect that’s generally where Bielsa comes from, if he really wanted to focus on corner defending then it wouldn’t be a weakness of his teams.

8.) 22 Mar 2021 12:02:19
Great post Axe, the logic of all that is that you can’t be best at every aspect of football! You will always have weak areas that other teams may or may not exploit!
You could say that due to chances created that Paddy should have scored 28 goals this season! He has done brilliantly but maybe if he had converted more of the chances to come his way, it wouldn’t have mattered so much about conceding at corners! Just saying!

9.) 22 Mar 2021 12:03:19
Spanish it is not easy if it was no team would ever score from a corner

However our ability is well below prem standard and teams a lot weaker than us are a lot better at it. Simple work would improve us in this area

To suggest we don’t need to work on it, to suggest we don’t need a defence coach and to suggest improving our strike rates to me seems very narrow minded

In any area of life but espically sport you must look at what you are weakest at and improve

Our strike rate and goals for is very good, so yes keep working on it, improve if possible but we can carry on as is as we are successful in this area

Defence over all is our weak point and corners is by far our Achilles heel so to not focus and improve on it is mental . everyone knows this is our weak point and everyone knows when you have a weakness you must drive to improve

Set plays are so important weak teams focus on them as there best way. now we are a good team but this is dragging us down. Improve and we would be an even better team.

10.) 22 Mar 2021 13:19:49
I truly am in the "It won't be easy" and saying a new defensive coach is not the whole answer because, if disected, the problem is more complex. As Opti has pointed out - if we didn't give the ball away so much we wouldn't have to defend as much.
If every problem was singular and identifiable and every answer was the same, life would be so easy. No, football at Leeds is a many layered entity where changing one layer affects others. My request was that small tweaks in different layers does not affect the overall style but may, just may, affect the obvious problem we suffer from. Wether this requires a Defensive Guru or is addressed by the Big Man himself, I care not but that someone acts on the failing is something I do care about.

11.) 22 Mar 2021 14:57:10
Spaniard Don't think anyone on here has said it's easy, just something which needs sorting. However, calls for change in coach, defensive coach as a solution show a lack of understanding for the game. Axe is on the right lines. With both attacking and defending corners, George's view is you've either got it or you haven't. It's like pace. You can't teach it. You're either good in the air or you ain't. We've seen Struick developing his skill in this area and his header against Arsenal was ironically the most thumped I've ever seen. Cooper not too shabby at corners. Pontus was also such a player. We will improve gradually over time. Personally, I'm delighted by Bielsa and the ethos and ambitions for our club are at a high. Recruit well in the summer and I see us challenging for a CL berth.

12.) 22 Mar 2021 19:35:51
I think corners are down to confidence and can be sorted if only we could stop a few we will be ok, get someone to take a lead will help, keeper is young and is doing very well let’s hope we can keep him from the vultures off the PL .

13.) 22 Mar 2021 20:59:52
What's really weird is last season we conceded LESS than everyone else. If its down to the coaching and we have the same coach how the heck did that happen? The notoriously 'stubborn'Bielsa can't have changed his tactics. Can he? How can we explain that?

14.) 22 Mar 2021 22:45:52
Championship is players playing against experienced premiership players. It’s a case of learning in season one and improving in season two. End of debate guys. See it’s that easy haha.

15.) 22 Mar 2021 22:58:41
My point exactly Love, it's not tge coach, it's the players. We need to upgrade.

17 Mar 2021 11:08:49
Love to see Luke Ayling get a call up to the England squad. Great example as a pro. Done everything he can to maximise his ability and the reward, regular premiership footballer where he gives his all and is only rarely outclassed up against some world class players. Good luck Luke!

1.) 17 Mar 2021 12:38:21
I love Luke and think I’m a different time or if Luke was a different position it would be good shout

Sadly for Luke England right back has Trent, James, wan Bissaka and tripper who all might be a head of Luke

Think Bamford might be closer to a England call.

2.) 17 Mar 2021 12:47:28
Agree Spanish. Think fitness and enthusiasm and forward ability against lessor opposition might see him get the nod. Don’t think either he or Bamford would look out of place.

3.) 17 Mar 2021 13:50:02
Luke probably our best bargain of the last decade jus do not believe he is at international level just now, he certainly is for energy, enthusiasm and attacking intent but for me he still has lapses of concentration and distribution is not of the trent alexander level at this time.

Selfishly I hope he takes time with us to get everything at a level where he is an automatic choice but don’t feel he’s there yet. Also think Cody Drameh may become as good if not better in very short time.

4.) 17 Mar 2021 20:26:48
I think England is a step too far. I really hoped (and still hope) Ayling would be able to raise his game to EPL standards but he has cost us too many times this season due to lapses in concentration and losing his man.

Yes, think so Alf but less likely to happen this year if they get relegated as I’m sure Pablo could still play lower first or second decision in Spain and make an impact.

This is the club where Pablo started and where his dad is still involved in the club. Last time I went to the ground they still had A full size Pablo cutout in the very small club shop!

They are fighting to stay in the division so need a bit of help, if they stay up, this could be a likely destination in the summer. Pablos sister has a sports shop in the town with more Pablo and Leeds kit!

Personally don’t think it matters whether they get punished or not. Any investors involved should look at how ineptly this issue has been handled by the clubs involved and withdraw their support now and forever! Scary, how poorly it was conceived and launched. Seemingly no attempt to win over managers, players never mind the fan base. Now is the chance to have some real and purposeful discussions about the future of football in the U. K. and beyond, let’s hope that chance is taken!

Costa and Roberts are playing for their futures at this club or another, Geldhert has one at the club and is being induced in the Bielsa way, squad exposure first. He might get some minutes before the summer but his chance will come in pre season and if he doesn’t take that a step up in the new under 23 league.

Still think it’s not going to happen! Mind you, I thought Brexit wouldn’t happen, Trump wouldn’t be elected and Bermondsey would stick to his word and get his KP tattoo!

Hopefully this time too many strong and powerful voices against it as well as legal and contractual issues. It’s just so fundamentally wrong! American influences on clubs and the greed and debt of the top two Spanish clubs!

Hard to say this but well done to Gary Neville and Alex Ferguson for speaking out so strongly against their own club!

Pablo will be off to Castellón in the summer, they look to be surviving in the Spanish second division, although it’s going to be close and they have had a difficult year. Assuming they stay up, I think the time is right for him to go with a final day appearance in front of some fans.

As to the under 23s into the first team, Bielsa won’t be rushed and next years under 23s are already going to be played at a higher level, so there is development there in itself!

Let’s just thank our lucky stars that whilst someone at Derby thought it was a good idea to employ a Lampard or a Rooney as coach Orta was prepared to dream of Bielsa and then made the dream a reality! I understand some of the criticisms of Bielsa but just feel that for our club he was exactly the right appointment at the right time. He’s a brilliant, eccentric figure that lays down a culture of demands and behaviours in order to deliver exciting, attacking but also winning football. Without a doubt him Radz and Orta are giving us a club we can be proud of and love and cherish! Great time to be a Leeds fan! Shame for most of the rest!
