Sportsdirect reporting that Massimo Cellino is wanting Legendary Italian striker Alessandro Del Piero as a player/coach - Cellino says it would show real intent on his part.

Certainly would be sign of his intent . signing a 39 year old has been who can't get a contract in Australia

If true can, t knock that AP would be a great asset in my book 39 years old player coach amazing quality as a player lots to bring to the table and would still find the net in the championship easily as a bit player

10 minute sub appearances here and their would work, Phillips does it still. Plus he'd be great as coach I reckon. Can Cellino seriously pull in people of this calibre?

He plays for sydney in the a-league. he is a has been with the occasional flash of brilliance. He does not belong on a football field as a player any more

Before anyone knocks him, Kevin Phillips came off the bench against us and set up the winner for Leicester. He is 40 and is still a game changer as he is a natural finisher. Del Piero is 39 and arguably one of the last decades most prolific strikers, whether he is still as clinical as he used to be remains to be seen. He could be a great supersub and knick important goals for us. Also think of him as a coach with his experience as a World Cup winner. I'd have him in my squad if possible.

Been a leeds fan for 40 years this could be the best news got a guy that wants to spend some money we have to go for it!

I suggest you look at the A-league and reveiw your comments, I loved him as a player but your living on memories.

The 30+ players that Leeds are used to attracting are the likes of Hunt, Brown, Drury etc:- not in the same league as ADP - imagine what he could give to the likes of Mowatt, Byram and our Acadamy

Del Piero as a coach would be awesome, his playing days maybe behind him but having his skills and knowledge would be amazing for the academy and senior players, providing he is interested in coaching and taking his badges of course. One of the best forwards of the last 20 years coaching at leeds, yes please.

Hes not going to bring in Del Piero as a PLAYER. We can't bring in anyone in till the summer anyway. All football money men are crooks of some degree. This one is no different, but he's a football man with a cartload of money, and may well be the best thing to happen to this club since The Great Don .

WOW!, great article by phil hay in the yep about the board, has really opened my eyes on the state our beloved club has been in.

After some of the rubbish we have signed over the last couple of years, are we seriously knocking the idea of having a player of this capacity coming to the club? I think people need to get real, we are a struggling championship side!

Ed013 - you are right about Nista. He's the only Italian player at Leeds. I won't count Tabanelli as he didn't officially sign.

We've never actually fielded an Italian player as Nista never played for us.

Ed013 - I dare say we will see some Italian influx to the squad. Hopefully not to the detriment of our own academy though.

I wouldn't say not to Del Piero coming in as a coach next season with the odd off the bench appearance. Like another poster said Kevin Phillips can still do it and ADP is twice the player Phillips is. He could easily teach the young lads a few things in training.

Brian said today that Festa may come into the club in some capacity. Not sure what that would be, maybe some transfer/scouting area.

Cellino going back to his old club Cagliari to sign Victor Ibarbo first on loan and then permanently in the summer. Ibarbo has 52 goals in 84 apps.

If we did sign him, I would love it. its very unlikely. Barca are after him

Cellino himself put a 15million price tag on him just before christmas when Juventus and Inter were scouting him. I doubt Ibarbo would want to come to Leeds when clubs like Juve and Inter are looking him, plus with Cellino looking to sell Caglari I'd doubt he'd fancy paying 15million to his former club once it's sold.

Ed - why do we get nonsense like this on the site, its clearly someone just thinking oh he's from cagliari, let's right some utter tripe.

I anticipated that the Shaun Harvey - Ken Bates connection may well get in our way. The delay takeover > administration > bates buy's back for a pound route of Leeds torture.
Guess i'm just a cynic, wonder how that happened.

In answer to some of the responses above - SUBJECT TO FL APPROVAL. Which I personally think will be granted.

Ben Jacobs reporting on tw**ter that his senior source in FL has confirmed that approval has been given - expecting their position to be announced soon

The reason tabanelli's transfer was turned down was because it was completed outside of the transfer window not because cellino had sanctioned it

Anyone know if there is any truth in the rumour about the Cagliari sale being off? I can't find any reference to it anywhere and all yesterdays reports say the deal was completed

Wouldn't matter if it has. Cellino is not buying all of the 75%, his family are and between them they have more money that the club, stadium, training ground and players put together. Unlike the consortiums were, they are RICH.

I read somewhere this morning that cellino said he had practically sold his club and was in the process of finalizing the deal! (Can't find where I read it sorry, it was a piece about him coming to uk next week.) don't remember it actually being confirmed as sold that's all.

He is not that rich. He only has same wealth as say Bramhall at DRFC. No where near the wealth of Abramovich or many others in the premier league.

If he does at what price would he want to sell it back seeing as the rent is astronomical.

As far as I remember it was a businessman from Manchester that purchased ER and said they could buy it back within 5 years for close to what he bought it for (obviously he gained rent). If not within the 5 yrs then the price would go up tenfold.
