Under normal circumstances I would be at the forefront suggesting Kyle Bartley would be a good recruit. I am not so sure now. I thought his injury problems were behind him but he is injured again. With our track record it would be typical if we signed him and then he was sidelined for months. It's a risky option. Robert Huth would be a better option although nothing is straight forward. He is Thirty four at the start of the season and therefore not a long term option and his wages are high. Nothing much else available. Good centre halves and strikers are at a premium and costly. That's why we trawl the lower division looking for hidden gems. Unfortunately they are few and far between. That's another reason we buy in bulk. The mistake is giving them long term contracts before they have given some indication they can actually play. Luke Murphy, for example, wasn't that great for us but was ok for the most part. The big point is that is better than any we have brought in except Forshaw who is arguably a different sort of player.

No to Bartley for me. Huth no as well cause of wages. Must be some 30 plus cb out there like terry that wants one final swan song before scrap heap looms.

Phil Jagielka? or is that too much to ask? Lescott maybe?

Jagielka would be a good signing, but I doubt we could get him, O Shea, a bit slow but might do a good job in a good back four, he has the experience. Lescott I think has had his day.

Jagelka will go to Cardiff with his mate Colin

All of those have their merits. The biggest for me would be to mentor the likes of O'Connor and Shaugnessy. So it makes sense for us to get a been there done it CB on just a two year contract. To manage their appearances alternating with the two young guns and so it becomes a win win. They get two good (promotion) years and we get breathing space to bring the kids along gently and not forced rushed.
