i can understand selling wood for 20 plus. but i can not make sense of selling him now with nobody lined up. i want promotion this season and believe we have our best chance for a decade. this is the poorest championship for a long long time and we have every chance. i don't understand folk saying we should definitely take the cash for wood. why? lufc is not skint. why take away almost 50% of our goals from last season. who else will score even 10 plus. roofe? alioski? not a chance. it does not make sense to sell wood even at 20 miilion.

CORKWHITE1

1.) 17 Aug 2017 23:46:34
Because once a player gets premier league interest in there head they start playing like absolute dog poo, which will mean we get less when we eventually do sell them.

2.) 17 Aug 2017 23:48:28
Clearly his head is turned already. I reckon between roofe, ekuban, Ali, etc., we will be fine. Can always invest in January if things aren't dropping our way. I don't see this side (without wood) in a relegation scrap. 18mil would be silly money to turn down, I reckon. Would gladly see us spend 5 or so on helander and 5 on someone like Bradshaw

3.) 18 Aug 2017 05:26:37
I Love Wood as I do with all the players on our team, But I honestly think last year was a one off for him. I would break Burnleys arm for 20m. This time last year we were talking about only bringing him on in the last 30 minutes as he was so slow. take the 20 I say. MOT

4.) 18 Aug 2017 09:00:25
I think with the Wood situation, it all depends! It depends on what the deals actually are in terms of cash now and future money, on how much Wood is really agitating to go and on what alternatives we already have on the table. Someone who really knows the answer to all of that then needs to make a judgement call, it becomes a business decision. Given the recruitment so far, I can't believe that they haven't thought about this as a possibility, therefore there should be a plan b, c, d etc. Or we have really decided that however much we get offered, how ever much Wood wants away, we are just going to say No. personally I think the latter is hard to believe so I hope we've got a good plan b, c and d!

5.) 18 Aug 2017 09:35:51
if wood does go. and it is silly money for a great return last season, he reminds me of when beckford scored for fun. but how many did he miss. If mcbadgekisser is linked i'd take him providing he takes a massive paycut to prove he wants to come back and play football, because he certainly does know where the back of the net is.

6.) 18 Aug 2017 11:13:43
January isn't the time to buy behave, over inflated prices as values know you are more desperate for the players. Some managers refuse to do any buissines in january.

7.) 18 Aug 2017 12:41:47
Fair point, Martyn, but I'm taking about if we were to get there and we're in free fall, crashing through the bottom of the league - which, I absolutely cannot see with our current crop. We snap up someone with a bit about them, I don't see how we won't score goals. We bought wood for 3. If we sell him for 18, we're +15mil. That's a pretty good place to be for Leeds and in this division. I think the above comment is right. If we get wee Ross back, he takes a decent pay cut, to prove his desire to wear the shirt again, and he only costs us 3-6mil, We're up 10mil on Wood, who I honestly don't ever see scoring 30 in a season again, or being valued anywhere close to 15m+. I think we missed a massive trick not trying to get Joe Garner. For 1mil, I think he'll be the signing of the summer for the division. Him or Mendez-Laing at Cardiff, who has started very well.

8.) 18 Aug 2017 14:53:42
Dont think u understand a lot cork.

13 Aug 2017 19:53:18
What really amazes me is some folk saying cash in on Wood. Say 20 mill. Buy a striker for 10 and a CB for 5 and keep the other 5 for January. Absolute fools. These lads must believe if we buy a striker for 10 mill and a CB for 5 mill that said striker is guaranteed to score 20 plus goals and the new centre back will be like Bobby Moore. Jesus effing H. Wood is a poor footballer but like Gary Lineker will alaways score goals. Well at least in championship. If we sell Wood we are abso effed imo. Who will score the goals? A few have said Roofe. i'd be happy if he scored 8 goals this season as he is not a goalscorer! We have to keep Wood

CORKWHITE1

1.) 13 Aug 2017 22:50:44
This post illustrates why we bump heads Corky. There are no guarantees in life or football. Yes there's no guarantee of Wood's replacement scoring 20 goals but equally there's no guarantee Wood will hit 20 either. Yes Wood more likely to hit 20 because he's here at Leeds already but we do have a new manager so things aren't going to revolve around him anymore like they did under 🙉. An opportunity to 6 fold your investment is too enticing Corky. For 16m+ I'd sell and hope we can use the money wisely for the remaining part of the transfer window. Selling players for top £ is what frequently keeps vast majority of clubs going. We are part of that vast majority. He's a sell for me at the right price.

2.) 13 Aug 2017 23:01:15
It will be great if Wood stays and he scores another 20-30 goals, particularly if he wants to stay. But none of that is guarenteed either. Might depend a lot on him and how much he does or doesn't want to go. If he does go not impossible either that we could buy a 20 plus striker and a decent defender, depends on the quality of the recruitment. I guess that's the challenge for the Management team. The coach has made his position very clear and I would imagine that he knows the views of the chairman.

3.) 14 Aug 2017 00:07:43
If Swansea wanna give us 12 and Bartley I think if we offered 12 for Troy deeney a day put him on high wages we'd get him or Conner wickham who are around better footballers

4.) 14 Aug 2017 01:00:10
Not a goalscorer. Based on? How many times has he led our line? Twice? Roofe is very good forward. Wood is a poor footballer and if we get 20 mil, I'd be satisfied. We could even get away with playing alioski as the forward or switching to a false 9 and using a bigger midfielder as a holdup man. I think we've got enough to get us through regardless. We do need a couple of defenders. There are enough good target men out there that won't cost the earth. Roofe is perfectly capable when given the chance. That's a guarantee!

5.) 14 Aug 2017 10:12:25
Rhodes past his best -clearly in decline; many of those goals were years ago, and in League 1. Most likel would end up another Morison scenario -just more expensive.

6.) 14 Aug 2017 10:13:29
Roofe to lead the line? He's 5 foot 9!

7.) 14 Aug 2017 11:03:02
Wood a poor footballer lol you Leeds fans have no idea atall, he's a class striker who needs a better team with players who can cross unlike Hadi sacko lol wood does his job perfectly it's not his fault Leeds have awful wide players who can't cross.

8.) 14 Aug 2017 11:17:22
20 mill for wood is good business. I like him, he's chapman-esque. not a great player, but a great goal scorer. If we sell, and reinvest wisely, we will be better off. The dynamic of the team has changed, and a better footballer, as opposed to just a goal scorer would suit our team better, given the way we've set up since TC came in.

9.) 14 Aug 2017 18:54:12
Think a more realistic figure for wood is 12-16 mil As for replacement I think, if not Roofe, then Saiz could do a job up front. Slippery as an eel and technically gifted. Not a line leader but get the ball in the box and I can see him putting it away.

10.) 14 Aug 2017 20:31:14

Great attacking display today and still keeping clean sheets. don't wish to sound like a Gary Monk fan club member but i for one have not forgot the work he did last season. He gave us stability which we didn't have for years and bought in some quality players. Pontus, OKane and Ayling are really the backbone of this side and Hernandez still has Premier quality on his day. Ok he pissed off to Boro, mainly because he woudnt have control over transfers at Leeds but some people need to move on from this. After all he left us in a far better place than when he took over late summer last. Its a new day, a new dawn at ER. Time to stop looking back and get ready for Premier League football again. Sorry Wex couldn't help the last bit!

1.) 10 Sep 2017 01:34:45
Well put Corkwhite and although the way he left sticks in our throat I don't think many would disagree with you, I think myself included have just carried away in all the euphoria and are happy to rub Monks nose in it, I don't know why as it's not like he has time to read what we say! But I do agree with you, credit where it's due, Pontus, Ayling and Hernandez were his doing and he did give us stability, so I'm with you now, it's time to move on, like I said in an earlier post if he hadn't gone I doubt we would be enjoying this season as much as we are. Nice one Corkwhite! MOT

2.) 10 Sep 2017 08:15:40
Corkwhite well said mate MC saved our club, GM gave us the best season since 2010 (and hope) CW give us money to spend, Players, managers move on that's the nature of the game I wish them all the best, we have a new team now let's all get behind them forget the past and march on again. Love LEEDS.

3.) 10 Sep 2017 11:51:36
Pontus was clearly a gift from the Gods

4.) 10 Sep 2017 12:43:48
Took the words out of my mouth Cork

5.) 10 Sep 2017 15:19:01
Monk may have brought O'Kane into the fold . BUT. he didn't play him much did he?

25 Aug 2017 16:05:59
A mate of mine said LUFC fans are the hardest to please. He has a point. Monk and Chris Wood generally are getting slated. Same as Byram and Taylor before them. All the aforementioned tried their best for us but left for different reasons. Them grapes have always been sour in Yorkshire. I probably will get stick for that but its true.

Alan Smith, Batty, Mcallister. Even John Lukic got a hard time when he left! I remember after Cantona left chatting to a guy who actually said he was glad Cantona had gone because he wasn't a team player! Back to them grapes again!

CORKWHITE1

1.) 25 Aug 2017 16:30:04
Good point Corkwhite but we are not the only supporters who do that, look at Rooney, loved at Everton then moves to Man Utd, kisses the badge, then death threats, absolute haterd for him, then he returns he is loved again! the return of the messiah! Then sometimes when a player who gets paid a lot of money to play doesn't want to wear the shirt a couple of hours prior to kick off even though he's under contract I think deserves it because fans will turn up away from home costing a lot in their weekly budget, but they don't say I can't be bothered as Newcastle have made me an offer to support them! Fans everywhere are fickle mate, two blokes who support two different teams can work together all week and be mates but when kick off comes but for the next day or two they are slagging each other off! It's football mate, blame our fathers, grandfathers whatever but it's what's expected! Imagine going to work and saying Oh we sold Wood to Burnley yesterday, but I'm not taking his picture off my lap top as he is a wonderful person and I'm thinking now i'd rather support the Dingles! It would never happen! Wood is Knob for not for what he did but the way he did it! MOT

2.) 25 Aug 2017 16:30:48
It's probably true cork, but it's because we care the most probably. The people you mentioned, apart from batty all believed their own hype and none are as good as they actually think they are (apart from cantona) . Players who work hard but just move on as is life don't tend to get stick really, they get a thank you and a good welcome back.

3.) 25 Aug 2017 17:32:27
Gary speed is a prime example of leaving a club the right way, a true professional legend in every way who has many many fans around the world! MOT

4.) 25 Aug 2017 18:01:35
Got no issues with Byram and I wish him well. But Taylor and Wood both refused to play for us and Monk walked out for more money, so can't wish them well sorry.

5.) 25 Aug 2017 18:32:48
The grapes are fine in Yorkshire, Corky. Especially them red seedless ones. Reason we give certain ex-players flack is because of the manner which they leave and we can't abide hypocrisy. Take McAllister. Just a couple days before he left he said he was looking forward to playing alongside new signing Lee Bowyer then he was gone. Cork, it's called disloyalty and lies. Yorkshire folk don't like that. I think Wood's departure is more banter at having sold a lump for 15m. Personally I wish Wood well but can't see him being much better than a 1 in 5 striker at Burnley and that's kinda funny to me. As for Monk, no-one has liked snakes since the Garden of Hazard so don't know what you mean Cork! I think it's just you Cork, your love for Monk and previously Rosler. They're both useless bags of anagram of hits. Over and out. George

6.) 25 Aug 2017 21:49:23
It was the Dukes of Hazard and the Garden of Eden I think.

7.) 25 Aug 2017 21:49:57
Nearly typed the Dykes of Hazard then - that was a completely different show!

8.) 25 Aug 2017 22:36:18
McAllister is probably as good as they come an outstanding player

9.) 26 Aug 2017 01:31:29
Wex, he was my favourite and a very nice guy. Had he stayed, I think we would've won trophies in that 1998 to 2002 period.

10.) 26 Aug 2017 07:50:03
McAllister was class. Went on to win things with Liverpool as well it was a mistake letting him go imo. Would have been a decent manager for us if we had him above League 1 level but his approach was wrong for that league.

11.) 26 Aug 2017 11:27:12
Good luck to all ex Leeds lads. Common now for players not to play if transfer imminent. what's point of him breaking a leg then everyone loses. Taylor was badly advised, but then again some opposing full back might have got jealous and given him a few kicks. All players leave for a reason, usually money now and all we can ask is they do their best when they are with us. Not many one club players left sorry to say.

12.) 26 Aug 2017 11:29:28
Monk a different matter, total snake, ruined our end of season. Think he knew he was going at christmas

22 Aug 2017 00:31:54
Best of luck to Chris Wood because like the Murphys i'm not bitter. can't blame the lad really. If any other player in the Leeds squad was offered anything like the deal he got off Burnley theyd be off just as quick. Way of the world lads and get used to it until we are back where we belong.

CORKWHITE1

1.) 22 Aug 2017 10:22:02
Not Jansson He refused to be swayed by speculation and potential offers Which is why he's a living God

18 Aug 2017 15:52:51
Ok let's say we get 20 mill for Wood. Who do we buy as a replacement?

CORKWHITE1

1.) 18 Aug 2017 16:29:42
Thomas Brolim or Barndoor Billy
🤣

2.) 19 Aug 2017 00:04:55
German plus Ross on loan. Can't pay more than 55% Ross weekly wage in order to keep dressing room harmony. Put CW sale proceeds in a high yield savings account for rainy day. Simples.

14 Aug 2017 20:53:35
George. Whilst i see your point on selling Wood at potentially 600% -800% profit i still believe its better for Leeds if he stays. The lad has proved he's a goalscorer at this level and if the new players step up i'm sure he can at least equal last years total of goals. 25 plus goalscorers are rare in all divisions in all countries and if serious about promotion and having success you don't sell them. We don't have any player who can get close to that amount of goals imo. Roofe is not a number 9 as some have said and Antonsson has gone on loan. Leeds is a big club. We are looking for promotion. Selling Wood will decrease our chances. Maybe the German geezer coming on loan will bang in 30 but i doubt it. Maybe we can pick up someone with premier/championship experience who will score 20 plus for around the 10 mill mark. Again i doubt it. You don't sell your best players, simple as.

CORKWHITE1

1.) 14 Aug 2017 21:27:07
Good post Corkwhite1, bang on the money there mate. I would think it's a step backward if he goes but I fear the worst as Burnley are coming in with another bid of £18M plus £5M in add ons! It's just reported on Sky Transfer News! Gutted at the thought. Great post though. MOT

2.) 14 Aug 2017 21:31:13
Also Corkwhite1 why go looking for a 20 goal plus striker when we already have one? We can't buy a replacement for him as if there was a striker out there the Premiership teams would be on it like a rash! Keep him for another season, if we get promoted then he's got his wish of playing in The Premiership, if not then give him his wish, Wood leaving is a big minus! MOT

3.) 14 Aug 2017 21:54:47
Don't disagree Cork but a big problem is the wage he could earn if he moves. Probably 5 times what he's on now, plus whatever share of the transfer fee. Also, bear in mind the season before last there were more fans slagging him off than sticking up for him. So we can hardly claim that we've fallen in love with him like we have Pontus and Berardi. And he's not come through the academy like Sam and Lewis and Charlie. Don't think he will have any great loyalty to us. I could be wrong.

4.) 14 Aug 2017 23:19:54
Speedo mate i'm not sure what you are saying. But let's be honest about Leeds fans. We can be very hard to please even in these last dozen or so years. 12 months ago lots on here slagged Wood and same lads totally changed their view come January. So far Wood has kept stum regarding a transfer to his credit because as you say he will at least quadtruple his wages. As for Byram Cook and Taylor, all three got slated for leaving Leeds. I don't get your point on that one mate? It would be best for Leeds if Wood stays in my my opinion.

5.) 15 Aug 2017 00:25:08
Good retort post Cork. However, that's an awful lot of wonga to turn down. I'd sell and hope for the best outcome. This club got into serious financial difficulties in part because of player sales which did not occur at top price such as Bowyer and Kewell. It'd be nice to be on the receiving end of a great deal for a change.

6.) 15 Aug 2017 07:10:12
Lots of clubs sell some of their best players, even Barcelona! It's about the price you are offered and how much the player wants to stay. This is a chance for him to play in the premiership now not some theoretical chance in the future. Also it's an opportunity for him to earn a lot more money now and protect his future. He might not ever be in such a marketable position again. It also possibly depends on what other player options we might already have lined up. Opinion always seems to have been divided on Wood, Speedy is right. I think if it's over 20 million and Wood wants to go it's probably going to happen.

7.) 15 Aug 2017 08:49:51
What I was rather too long winded in trying to say is that I think its going to be an easier decision for him to go than it was for the lads who came through the academy.

Bang on Dave. I said before game it wasnt a match for Saiz, Alioski and Hernandez. We had to beef up the midfield and it was a perfect time to change up the team. Dallas Grot and Viera were the obvious.
