How frustrating is this. Monk must have identified who he wanted before window opened. We are in top six with chance of being in premier league next season. How much negotiating does it take. Some decent strikers on frees available who could do a job in this league. Sure wage structure could be bypassed by appearance money etc. if it gave us a better chance of going up. Its all well talking about long term plans but you can aim higher with premier league money. Whoevers in charge of transfer activity wants to get his finger out.

Totally agree BIGE, and this not us whingeing because we have just lost a match, or being disappointed or dissatisfied with our League position, it's about planning for the future. It's very disappointing - since presumably lack of (reasonable) funds is not the issue.

Better to buy wise than just buy or should we not learn from the past. We are being run better now than the last 20 years

Well it could be they are trying to stay within the Fair Play rules, However with the TV appearance money we should have some money (if we were paid the right amount based on TV appearances) not counting any new investment. Definition of FPR below Clubs need to balance football-related expenditure - transfers and wages - with television and ticket income, plus revenues raised by their commercial departments. Money spent on stadiums, training facilities, youth development or community projects is exempt. I would settle for "one quality" new signing - even on loan but suspect the squad will stay the same MOT

From the words that are coming out of Elland Road it may be that Garry is for in front of schedule for his plans. I think it has taken him by surprise how the team have taken his ideas on board and how fruitfull they have been. Whilst you would never say no to promotion. Lord knows the fans have waited many long years. I would not be surprised if GMs plan was to consolidate one more season in the Championship, continue building a squad that will not only get promotion but will avoid instant relegation. No, while I welcome the right recruit this month my big hope is for a loosening of the purse strings in the summer when better wider choices are available and then I will be even more excited for our charge to the top 17/18 season. Results have shown that we are almost there but at times they have also highlighted that to underline the flair with consistency we are not quite there yet.

Totally agree leo. I think, like us, the Monkster did not expect us to be doing so well, and I'm sure promotion this year was never in his thoughts. But of course we are greedy and want it this season if at all possible. Some of us are running out of time 😢

Good teams build from strength. Its writen in history. Meaning. Good teams identify possible short falls and address them when the going is good and they are able to attract the better player without throwing stupid money at them! We need 3-4 more to make sure I guarantee they will be more willing to come now rather than end of season if we miss out.

The theory of consolidation is not a bad one but suggests that we will achieve promotion when we are ready. Unfortunately football does not work like that and for the sake of a couple of players (what Monk has asked for) that do not break the bank, is it not a risk worth taking now ? How would posters on here feel if we did not invest and a club such as Huddersfield achieved promotion ? Are they in a better position than us i. e. squad/infrastructure ?

I agree with some of what people are saying in the respect that it takes time to build a solid team, but how do we know that we may not have as good form next season as we are currently, my perspective is that we take every opportunity we get, tonight being a huge one. If we can get promotion, regardless of how we do it, it wouldn't hurt to have one year in the top flight, just to test the waters, see if we're ready, then if the two loveable rogues are serious about staying there, this time next year could be crucial. We all want to be back in the big time and it will happen, it's just how bad the boys want it as to when it comes. Garry can't come to this club and not have a plan for promotion, no matter how unrealistic it was at the start of the season. We are ahead of the game but that's only a good thing, carry on fighting for what we deserve.

Can not see any point in staying another year in championship if we can get promoted this season. Can strengthen in summer. Flawed reasoning to think we will be in the same position next year at this time. Could be fighting relegation when big clubs take all our young ones.

Not saying buy anyone or pay big money. If its taking 4 weeks for players identified to make up their minds or agree terms must be problems or our negotiators are 12 year olds. A club like ours in our position should have players on board now. Think we may only get one the way things are looking.
