I am concerned that a replacement for Jansson will not be sourced during this window and that our centre back pool will be Cooper, White, Berardi and Strujik. Bielsa doesn't want too many options for positions as displayed last season when our options were Cooper, Jansson, Berardi and Halme.

Supposed to be after some “wonderkid” 21 year old from Arsenal. I’ll take a good wonderkid from there any day of the week!

2.) 07 Jul 2019 13:21:41
You’d hope but Arsenal have lacked quality CBs since George graham (who? ) stopped signing them.

3.) 07 Jul 2019 14:57:33
And Cooper gets injured week 2.

06 Jul 2019 22:14:35
I am sure it is pure coincidence but the sale of Clarke and Jansson covers the transfer fee for Costa next season.

1.) 07 Jul 2019 04:49:17
Still leaves us short of the loans for this season and our losses.

13 Jun 2019 13:56:42
Villa are apparently interested in Phillips for £14m. Would not want to lose one of our better performers from last season however he is not worth £14m so I would probably take it.

NottsWhite

1.) 13 Jun 2019 14:57:00
Not worth it. ? Team
If the season player. Grealish had a £50m tag on him. Kalvin has him in his pocket . no less than £20 m.
⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️👍👍.

2.) 13 Jun 2019 15:02:06
Other rumour is swap with wolves for Helder! Thank goodness these clubs aren’t talking to Bermo or they’d only be offering a monkey!

3.) 13 Jun 2019 15:23:49
I’d probably take 15 million or Helder and some cash. Bielsa has improved his play and value over one season. He has the chance of premiership football and we get a reasonable return when his second year in the position might not be a good. If we need some cash, possibly one f the least painful options, Forshaw on the books and Bielsa possibly sees other possibilities.

4.) 13 Jun 2019 16:00:48
think of brexit no deal.

5.) 13 Jun 2019 16:02:37
I'd take it or any better offer if we could negotiate it.
Shackleton would be perfect for that role IMO.

6.) 13 Jun 2019 17:43:42
Are you guys serious?! Do you want promotion next year or not?! KP is essential for a promotion campaign! Doesn’t matter if we even get £20 m as it won’t all be invested back in the team anyway . Spanish, Forshaw is not fit to lace KP’s boots in that defensive shield position . Have you forgotten about the careless play from him that led to a number of goals last season already?!

7.) 13 Jun 2019 19:20:18
Red Hot, everyone has his price and his value. Your view of KP isn’t shared by everyone on here. During the year there was careless play from quite a few people. On top of that he might actually fancy having a go at the premiership. Before the start of the season KP wasn’t thought of as a superb player in that position. No reason to believe someone else couldn’t succeed as well. However I’ll go with Bielsas judgement, I’m sure he would have made it perfectly clear if he is prepared to accept the sale of KP.

8.) 13 Jun 2019 20:07:35
If KP goes it’s just another nail in Rads coffin as far as I’m concerned as well as many others . That goes for Clarke too, who has every chance of being a £50 m to £ 100 m player one day .

9.) 14 Jun 2019 11:08:47
Anyone willing to take 15mill for KP is a fool. He is the sort of player you need at the club. Made EFL team in the first year he has played that position and will improve next season although i think he should be used further forward. You want his kind around the dressing room and for me he his 25mill+. Who will you replace him with, Diaz not ready for a full campaign yet and Foreshaw should be on his way out in my opinion along with Dallas.

10.) 14 Jun 2019 13:41:06
Dallas' finishing was sublime in the playoff game - I would try him out as a center forward personally. Get rid of Bam-average instead.

11.) 15 Jun 2019 20:44:56
Under no circumstances should KP be sold. The boy is Leeds thro an thro, born and bred, and we need those, at least one of them, in our team. Like him, or loathe him, we need Leeds blood on that pitch, and I know Kal would do anything for our club.

😁🤣😁.

4.) 26 May 2019 20:35:33
Yeah it’s probably the skint cousin of the PSG owner without two Euro’s to rub together.

5.) 27 May 2019 12:56:09
To be fair can it get mch worse as it seems Radz is not planning to buy anyone during the summer according to the 72, even if we sell. If Radz has no intention of investing I wish he would just foxtrot oscar, instead he is hoping to get promoted on the cheap and then sell the club.

Possession in football isn't always nine tenths of the law, it is what you do with the ball that counts. Glad to see Hernandez back because he adds to creativity of the team and takes the focus off Saiz. A fit Roofe "sniffing" around the six yard box will offer more than Roberts who is still learning the game and operates around the penalty spot/ edge of the box.

Disappointed about the result yesterday however the sending off had a massive impact on the result. I am becoming increasingly frustrated in how the squad resources are being used to cover injuries. I am probably old school in believing in "Horses for Courses" but I would personally rather see a specialist in a role than a jack of all trades. The game against Millwall saw a right back playing centre back, another right back playing centre midfield.

It is likely that due to Berardi's sending off Phillips will be playing as centre back in the next game. We are going back to the old days of square pegs in round holes and I am starting to feel that it is a myth that Bielsa trusts youth players as when push comes to shove he would rather shuffle his senior players than bring in an U23.

The second issue is the bench which has absolutely no balance what so ever. It appears that a "next cab off the rank approach" is used for filling the bench. I love the football we play but feel the manager's stubborn streak is contributing to some inconsistent results.

1.) 06 Oct 2019 12:05:40
Notts Excellent post. We ought to be playing a "horses for courses" but we are not. Here's a big reason why Bielsa must go. Same thing as with Monk. One trick ponyism. All the homework Bielsa does, when did he ever say the way they play will nullify what we do so let's go 4-4-2 or at least 3-5-2. Answer? Basically never. It's always 4-1-4-1 or whichever way you want to describe it. He underestimates the importance of physicality and set pieces and we only look good against teams who can really play. Lesser opponents frequently get the better of us. Is it only me who sees this as a big problem? I know Berm and Chris do. I'm not overly dissing Bielsa. He's a good knowledgeable manager but he's not for this league and therefore not for us.

2.) 06 Oct 2019 12:26:05
Can't argue with that post Notts, the guy repeats the same thing time and time again but can't understand why we keep getting the same type of result.

3.) 06 Oct 2019 12:32:58
Hello Mezz. You understand like Notts, Berm and Chris Chris.

4.) 06 Oct 2019 13:14:13
Think any football fan will know that you can not play the same way against everyone. Good managers look at weakness of other teams and exploit it. that's exactly what other teams ar doing to us, they know how we play and the probable line up. Said before teams like Wall will exploit it and they did. that's what is worrying me that we do not change players to suit the type of game. Yes we have lots of possession but its not gaining us anything if we do not score. Thing is we are not direct enough and seem to want to take the next pass along the line and hope all their defenders go to sleep. Love the style of play but need an end product. Yes it is partly down to recruitment and not having sufficient players in important areas but also the reluctance to use the players we have.

5.) 06 Oct 2019 14:07:28
Player rotation is important fir freshness but top teans like Man City abd Liverpool do NOT change their system. they just go out
, score goals and win match after match with these top players

If we had better players on tbe left wing and centre forward we would have bern promoted no question . we badly miss a fit Roofe and not signing Daniel James.

6.) 06 Oct 2019 14:42:51
great post notts as always very insightful.

7.) 06 Oct 2019 15:48:40
Exactly Bazooka. Pep rotates his squad and brings fresh players in according to who he is playing. We do not have the same quality but we do have options which are never used. Pep is more flexible than Bubs and will drop Raheem for a DM if he thought it was needed.

8.) 06 Oct 2019 15:52:33
It’s a totally rational post Notts, and well thought out as always.
I would love to see us have a bigger squad at our disposal, as clearly others would too.
If Bielsa had that at his disposal, and we picked up minimal injuries, how many points would we win the PL by next season? 🤔😳😂🍻.

02 Oct 2019 10:46:54
Big win last night, as although it is still early in the season, WBA will be challenging for promotion. We showed that we have the ability to tough it out which has been questioned over the past few games. Bamford had a fantastic game with regards to work rate and holding up the ball but now has a real psychological issue when shooting as the keeper must appear as a giant to him, but I would not begrudge him MOM. I thought that Dallas ran Bamford close for MOM will a tireless display. Costa, although not at the level we are expecting put in an improved performance. Our control in midfield definitely deteriorated when Shackleton left the field and unfortunately Roberts could not get to the pace of the game and was rightly replaced. Special mention to the Referee and the assistant running the line towards the Kop end. England did not have representation from our Refs in the last World Cup and this pairs display it is easy to see why. Alioski booked (quite rightly) for an uncontrolled slide at the Kop end however a WBA player in the same area of the pitch sides through a Leeds player to eventually win the ball does not warrant a free kick. Apparently you are also allowed to man handle a player out of the way to get to the ball. I think last nights ref has been watching too much of the Rugby.

NottsWhite

1.) 02 Oct 2019 14:16:53
Top post Sheriff.

2.) 02 Oct 2019 20:34:38
Notts, I agree, WBA will be right up there this season. A quality coach, and lots of capable players, and a big side too. I think that’s the best opposition performance I’ve seen across the last two seasons. Credit where it’s due.

31 Aug 2019 20:15:17
I understand Bielsa's decision to play an unchanged side and with clinical finishing, we could have won the game by half time. However, the growing trend at Elland Road is for the opposition to be defensive and hope to hit us with a sucker punch. Because of this Bielsa needs to find other ways to break down stubborn defenses. The introduction of Costa to the starting line up is now a must. Eddie is an excellent talent but can he play as a lone striker or would he be more effective playing with Bamford? In today's game I felt that Costa should have been brought on sooner as we needed to force the issue with Swansea and would have brought off Klich who IMO was slowing the game down. The straight swop of Nketiah with Bamford for me was a wasted opportunity to link the pair. However, with more composure and taking responsibility in the opposition's box the substitutions would have been academic.

NottsWhite

1.) 31 Aug 2019 20:32:21
I’m not one to question Bielsa but Costa has to start the next game as he brings a whole new dimension to the team. Personally I’d keep Eddie on bench for the time being unless paired with Bamford as Notts alluded to.
Not enough clear cut chances created today and Costs is the man to change that.

2.) 31 Aug 2019 20:52:00
Yes Cork, it is becoming increasingly difficult to not start with one of our squad's best players.

3.) 31 Aug 2019 20:56:52
Spot on Notts.

4.) 01 Sep 2019 00:38:01
Again one of Bielsas strengths is also a weakness. He must be applauded for his loyalty but you can sometimes be too loyal.

21 Jul 2019 11:52:44
I see that Roofe left the game yesterday with a protective boot on. He probably should and try to get sponsorship from the makers of the boot the amount of time he wears it. Joking aside Roofe injured, Roberts injured and not sure if Forshaw played yesterday? The usual suspects are again having injury problems. Bad luck? Maybe, but we do have a group of injury prone senior players.

NottsWhite

1.) 21 Jul 2019 13:11:20
Notts it's just a ploy to put Rangers and Burnley off the transfer sent!

2.) 21 Jul 2019 13:29:26
Scent even!

3.) 22 Jul 2019 00:32:24
Think we will be lucky to get half a season out of him.

19 Jul 2019 21:02:25
Our inertia regarding bringing additional recruits confuses me. I understand that Radz may not have the finances any transfers or is asset stripping (take your pick) , however I am still confused on Bielsa stance on this. At the end of last season I believe Bielsa was quoted as stating that he would not be able to get the same performance levels from the current squad. The club and Bielsa spent time coming to an agreement for him to manage the club for another season. So what has changed on Bielsa's original point of view? I can see one of three scenarios. (1) Additional recruits will be brought in (2) Radz lied to Bielsa and Bielsa will eventually walk (3) The club negotiated a lucrative contract with Bielsa which has made him change his principles. Very confusing.

NottsWhite

1.) 19 Jul 2019 21:25:16
I think we are still actively looking for a replacement for Pontus. Other additions will depend on who becomes available from the loan list we still have.

Bielsa always has the potential to walk, I think at the moment he is getting what he wants. I think he is more likely to walk or get pushed if by Christmas it looks like we are well off the pace.

I think Bielsas comments about the repeating the performance with the same squad meant that he needed to get rid of people who didn’t believe in Bielsa 2. Pontus being an obvious example. Perhaps some of those released or not on the plane to Auz fall into the same category, we will see. Harrison clearly believes in Bielsa 2, Clarke 2, if Costa shows the desire we will be in a stronger attacking position. Like it or not I think Bielsa has identified White as an important player across the year.

I think Bielsa is pretty happy and I also think he wants to get promotion and believes he can do it. Let’s see.

2.) 19 Jul 2019 21:27:54
Notts Once again, you are correct. What's equally confusing as I've posted below is getting rid of 4 defenders and replacing them with a loanee. We don't make sense right now and it's because Radz doesn't know the sport. Should be academic come Christmas because I expect new owners by then, the Qataris. However, getting Michael Hector in and we'd look solid at the back with some albeit inadequate cover. I don't mind Radz keeping his hand in his pocket when it comes to a proven goalscorer because they cost plenty but a quality central defender is a must. £6m investment gets you Hector or Cahill and in my opinion automatic promotion with it. Without, it's playoffs again. Maybe that's Radz true aim - not to go up for whatever commercial reason but to give the impression he's trying. We just don't make sense right now.

3.) 19 Jul 2019 21:48:23
George why would the qataris wait.

4.) 19 Jul 2019 22:01:53
Wex Because Radz may make them wait. Qataris are rich and powerful but if Radz ain't selling, he ain't selling. Takes time to wear down an opponent whom you're still trying to do business with. I personally believe a deal has been done or is close and what we're seeing right now is the respective houses getting their stuff in order preparing for the takeover. In the meantime, we endure this strangeness of illogical apprehension in the transfer market.

5.) 19 Jul 2019 22:19:38
They could buy and fund any club they want.

6.) 19 Jul 2019 22:43:38
Radz has always had a strange approach to the transfer market.

7.) 19 Jul 2019 22:51:36
Wex True but it's not the issue. They can't just barge in with their millions. Radz has to be a willing seller. Radz ain't exactly a little fish either. Money talks but the Qataris won't want to pay over the odds.

I have read articles that state Bielsa is happy with his central defensive options and only wants a left back and a striker. I hope this is not the case as we will be severely expose if injuries/ suspensions occur. Also I believe I am right in that we have conceded in the last two friendlies from corners. Does not bode well.

Why would he give up this cushy gig ? The tail is wagging the dog with regards to his relationship with Radz. Orta is Teflon with regards to the poor performances from the players he has brought in and cannot be judged on the U23s for at least a couple of years. Why go to a club where he may be judged on actual results ? Utter madness

I agree it is not newsworthy until a deal is signed however I am still of the belief that this season is Radz last roll of the dice. The requirement to bring in investment in January, as a prelude to a summer takeover, may have been accelerated by the potential of Nketiah and White returning back to their parent clubs in January or the realisation that the squad will need strengthening in January. I do admit to reaching a bit for the squad strengthening :)

Klich I put down to fatigue. A player should be able to play a full season to a high level of physical performance but Klich has been ever present in a high intensity/ press system. Klich would benefit from squad rotation. Bamford has never been a consistent goal scorer therefore he is probably performing well in his mind and now seems to have a metal block when it comes to goal scoring however we need and paid for a goal scorer, poor recruitment in my eyes. Harrison is an enigma with his reputation being highly inflated by Guardiola. If Pep thinks so highly of Harrison why is he not in the Man City squad? Answer: he is not at that level but Man City see sell on potential. Douglas has not been the same player who was tearing it up for Wolves and we appeared to get a bargain price when we signed in, possibly a physical issue there. Casilla has pedigree but that has been earned sat on his backside for Real Madrid, different challenges in Spanish football compared to English second tier. Costa, for me, needs the time that has been afforded to Harrison but I am afraid he will not get it when Pablo returns.
