Heard an interesting one tonight - a tricky winger, yes. But not one that has been mentioned before-

Marcus Albrighton from villa - season long loan with a view to a perm deal!

Gingerstreak

1.) Was mentioned about a month ago on here

So - Ken Bates is looking to buy Charlton. And in other news Dioufy is beaten up in a Senegalese bar.

Oh the life of LUFC - You just couldn't make it up!

Gingerstreak

1.) I really hope so, maybe they have brought him down to earth with his attitude! not a lover at all of diouf, he's a very bad role model and a has been, I hope mr. mc demott ships him out as asap!

2.) To 1st responder.

Let me guess - your one of the crew shouting to get rid of Green as well?

Diouf and Green have been two of our most consistently good players this season. Team would be much weaker w/o them.

3.) Agree. - have to say I WASN'T a fan of EHD, but he has received more stick than most players to wind him up, and for the most part just laughs. I am a convert. Oh, how I wish he had real pace - he would be world class!

4.) We just need to keep green fit

5.) First responder, have you watched leeds play this year at all? Diouf is easily the best player in the squad, and whilst not as fast as he used to be he can still pull most teams in this league to pieces and had a very good go against spurs. If you want a team of good boys, maybe Leeds isn't the best club for you; go and watch wigan or MK Dons for some sanitised corporate rubbish.

6.) You sure you are talking about the same person ye had problems in past but since he's been with us except his Michael Jackson dance recently been great as all around and inside elland road will say and mc d has stated what a good influence he's been on young uns. So back to you mr Ned Flanders. have you never regretted doing something stupid in life? I know I have but lucky for me I don't live in a goldfish bowl all day long. Geez give people a 2nd chance. Turn you're cheek Ned
Leeds for life

7.) 21 May 2013 16:42:06
If only it had been the other way around (sorry Ken!)

8.) 21 May 2013 16:53:51
Yep you're right about Green, he's been consistently poor, chasing shadows and making wayward passes all seasons.

9.) Good luck to them. At least the Valley will be a good place to go for corporate entertainment. Chapel A

10.) Chasing shadows, misplacing passes? That's Austin you're talking about. Green has limitations in the wide role Warnock played him in (though placing round pegs in round holes was never Neil's forte), but I thought he performed really strongly in the deep, central role he ended the season in, suggesting he may have a lot to offer in that Batty-ish role next time round. Chapel A

11.) 22 May 2013 01:05:19
Are you mad @ answer 1. just ask Sam Byram if he's a bad role model. He's also, probably the most technically gifted player in the current squad though I do agree he has his silly moments.

It may be just me - But I find all this quite funny. There is no way GFH irrespective of the debt, or losses will put us into admin again. Forget everything else, they are an Investment bank and would lose all credibility with their investors (Not that they haven't already with the fans).

And, I am sure the FL will make a REAL example of us - 2 x admins!

It's clear they have lost interest, as it isn't the quick win they thought it would be, and are borrowing money from anyone to avoid more investment.

we do have other options - problem is They recognise GFH's dilemma and don't want to pay over the odds.

Gotta believe everything will work out - because the alternative is unthinkable, aka Luton/Portsmouth

It is difficult not to slate the players after yet another poor display, the very least I expect is passion, commitment and effort.

However, take a minute to look at the whole current situation, and there does seem to be something more basic wrong.

We have international players in the squad, yet we are made to look very average by VERY average teams.

Some games we look up for it, others not a clue. On occasions we actually pass and move, others we look like 11 strangers. Ross is played in midfield, Poleon doesn't start. McDermotts expensive signings dropped, and in Murphy's case struggling to justify the massive price tag (by our standards anyway!). Byram isn't the same at the minute, and where has the promising Dawson gone? Also what does EHD have to do to start a game?

Does McDermott know his best 11, OR the best formation to suit the players. ?

It's only my opinion, but EHD has to start in midfield to link play, Poleon wide with Ross up top. Mowatt, Dawson and Byram have to come in, together with Murphy, go for a 4-5-1

Youth has to be the way forward this year - if we have another couple of Mowatt's In the academy side, then let's fast track them now, they really couldn't do any worse than some of the first team squad! MOT

1.) Think mcd is changing things around to try and fix the problem. He isn't helped by the inconsistency of the players, they are showing a lack of professionalism with erratic form. Reckon you are right with your pick. Mcd will get it right but he has made a few dodgy signings and spent all pre season and season with diamond which is not working. Clearly a whole lot of players need moving on as soon as practical or possible

2.) Get Poyet in quick before he goes elsewhere. BMD is a nice man but hasn't got a clue. when I was at Reading. they sacked me!

3.) 07 Oct 2013 15:26:04
You can't just put all youth players in because it won't work

4.) No - we never got anywhere under O'Leary playing youth players. You remember how badly that team did? The one with players like Smith, Woodgate, Harte, Kewell, Bowyer, McPhail and pre-injury Bridges?

As the eternally wise Alan Hansen once said about some other team "you can't win anything with kids."

I'm not suggesting our current youth players are a match for the DOL team or Beckham, Giggs and the rest but age doesn't come into it either way. If you're good enough.

5.) Bridges and bowyer were both expensive signings, I agree with your point though.

6.) Yes if you're good enough you're old enough but clearly most of them are not good enough. I mean do we want a team that cannot beat Sheffield United's Development squad.

If they were good enough for the championship they'd be romping League 1 teams development squads comfortably.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me the problem at the moment is GFH's business models.

I am sure David Haigh has all the right intentions and indeed wants to do the best for us, however this is in direct conflict with GFH's whole reason for buying us - to make a profit.

Everyone knows the figures banded around for promotion, and if you want to know what this would mean to GFH's profit's take a look at their 2010/11 figures - more profit in 9 months than the last 10 years.

In terms of attracting potential investment, greed attracts greed. You don't think old 'salad noodles has invested money from IIB for the love of Leeds do you? - It's the thought of his share of that windfall - and every other potential investor will have the same agenda - GFH however, for their part will want to try and maximise their share by limiting the number of investors they bring on board.

GFH as an investment bank don't understand the concept of brand loyalty, long term investment and customer interaction. Their business dealings are more about flipping investments for instant gain, and bringing numerous investors on board to fund a new project and thus limiting their liability. In Leeds however, they have an established business, with a strong brand loyalty, and a potential of huge return on investment. But, and this is the issue, over time and ONLY with substantial investment.

I worry, not about the immediate future, but what happens when we get promoted - and the 100m is transferred into GFH's balance sheet never to be seen again.

I hope David Haigh is speaking the truth when he says he wants a LONGTERM, successful and sustainable future for us. And, we don't end up a cash-cow that GFH can milk to prop up their ailing balance sheet each year, whilst we see a string of cheap-fix signings, and under performing teams.

That said - I think I know the answer.

Gingerstreak

1.) I am not too sure if GFH have a concise business model or if they do it stumble from decision to decision. First, they were a broker for the purchase of the club, when the purchaser pulled out they decided to purchase the club with a view to getting rid of Bates and flipping it to the original purchaser. They then got excited by the riches of the premier league but did not want or do not have the resources to fund a promotion push therefore they decided to find investors. However being aware that the more investors they obtained the more they share would be erroded they are being selective as to who they approach to invest (small percentage for maximum capital). Therefore we are in this situation where GFH do not have the financial clout to invest heavily in the team but they will not sell up because of the PL profit potential. All in all a pretty crappy strategy

2.) Right from the get-go GFH have said that this is a 2 to 3 year project. BMD has a 3 year contract, the signings he has made so far have 3 year contracts. Can I spell it out? TWO TO THREE YEARS not two to three months! Come on, see the positives and be patient.

3.) Been patient for 10 years now, so don't need to say things like that we have suffered enough over the years it's time the club started paying the fans back for all their loyalty

4.) Agree completely. we've been waiting so long.theres no patience left. we need backing. solid.no nonsense backing. if they don't back us. we'll just get worse. fans drop off. gates will drop. and we'll be back where we were . 1st division. sort it gfh

5.) Patience is earned through steady progression. At best we are stagnating

Not a rumour - just a wish list really.

2 of either Steven Dobbie, Aaron wilbrahim, or Billy sharp.

Both palace players left out of 25, so will go on loan - and I find it hard to look past sharps scoring record.

1.) Mcdermott at the hull vs huddersfield game tonight according to tv radio leeds he's been watching fryatt what's everyones opinion of him remember him doing well against us for leicster

Well like it or not - I will be at ER next season to shout the lads on.

Don't worry though - if it makes you all feel better you can all stay away, and protest. Because LUFC will survive with average gates of 10k NOT!

If you take a minute to check out the transfers so far on the tv website you will notice one word cropping up numerous times FREE. Zilch, Zero, Nada, Nothing, Nowt. And that is going to be the reality for most transfers this summer. FREEBIES.

like it or not Financial Fair Play is upon us where even a footy club has to run like a business, and alarmingly have a sustainable business plan heaven forbid.

We have a cracking manager, a well respected academy, and allegedly the ability to fill ER every week with 40k fans. So we are already in a better position than most clubs to survive under FFP.

So for me a simple decision is to be made - Do you hate the owners enough to stand by and watch the club you love continue to go downhill, or do you separate the two and support OUR club through Thick and Thin knowing that eventually we WILL get what we dream of.?

No Brainer for me! MOT

Gingerstreak

1.) Great post, I for one will also be at elland road this coming season.

Yorkie, yep you are correct. BUT, before you get all excited it appears it was a loan from a company who has its base in the British Virgin Islands, and whose registered office IS in the same Dubai building as GFH.

And if that wasn't co-incidental enough one of the directors of said company is one David Haigh.

On the face of it - this just confirms that they don't want to invest - lots of rumours going around its takeover time again!

Looking at his performances, I would rather sign Benny Hill!

I did, but no more. The guy really is clueless. Irrespective of if we have money or not, I honestly believe I could put a better first 11 out there. hall would be on the wing, Poleon would be up front, drop McCormack back 10 yards and allow him freedom to roam. Habibbou used as the target man for Poleon. Bring back Thompson from loan, play Ashdowne more frequently. Etc, etc.

The crime for me is that he hasn't tried these things already.

Yorkie - spot on mate, they are - And it starts THIS season.

The basics are that a club has to eventually live within it means - and can not be bankrolled by a rich owner (not that we have one!). This season the club is allowed to overspend to a total of 8 million, made up of a 3million loss, and the other 5 million injected by the owner as a form of share issue etc. Although there is ONE loophole - Naming rights to the stadium. Any money gained from this isn't a cash injection as it is seen as a saleable commodity of the club, in the same as a player transfer is! So could see something along the lines of :-

"Monarch Stadium at Elland Road"!

Next season the overall figure lowers to 5 million and so on, until the club eventually runs as a self sustained business. ALL the football clubs have agreed it, and it also starts in the Prem in a season or so time.

There was an interesting article online a while ago from the Brighton owner that really hit the nail on the head - he gave the example of QPR's promotion season a couple of years ago.

To get promoted, they posted a loss of 25.8m pounds. IF the same happened next season, they would be fined 17.8m pounds by the Football League for breaching FInancial Fair Play rules. This fine would then be distributed amongst the other clubs in the league! In effect bankrolling to some extent their rivals promotion bid.

He also stated that Brighton were just about holding their own - and they had to have average home gates of 26. 5k to survive - so our 19. 5k makes our financial position worse!

So, on this basis even if GFH wanted to spend big, they can't. Especially as thanks to Bates 3.3million is already allocated to Ticketus.

Drenthe could be an exceptional talent in the Championship. Bit in and out at Everton, but on his day - Very similar to Gradel but with a more physical presence. {Ed001's Note - he has off field issues, he would be out partying the night before games etc.}

Not as cut and dried as that. Fry said even if they offered in 20k a week he still wants a move. And he didn't THINK we had the money. But since when has Fry been anything other than Gobby and self opinionated?.

He is just trying to get maximum he can for a player he knows wants to leave. Cathryn Hannah tv Leeds & WYS also states that the player himself is keen on a move to us. So start of bartering process!

Yeah - I agree, but that would mean transfer budget blown out of the water in one player. Always assuming we have one. lol.

Absolutely agree Ross is better just behind the front two linking play. Personally I like Morison - Use him as the target man with another quick striker - Poleon COULD be that man. But needs to hit the ground running because they're those saying the juries out.
