The FL are set to issue a statement saying that whilst not failing the test, Cellino cannot pass the FPP test until his current legal issues are resolved. In terms of consequences for the club, this means that GFH - whole urgently need to sell - will need to find another buyer.

1.) 21 Mar 2014 20:46:16
If he can't pass then he has failed! no middle ground. Having said that unless you are the FL I think I will wait for their official verdict rather than take notice of yet more conjecture.

2.) A test that you cannot fail and cannot pass? That's a useful test!

3.) That can't be correct. It completely breaches the innocent until proven guilty rule. If he does not fail the test then they can't stop him from taking over.
CH

4.) I don't know where everyone's getting this innocent until proven rubbish this isn't a court case the fl r a private organisation and if they dot want someone to be part of their club then that's it, for whatever reasons, and let's be realistic here the guys just been convicted of some sort of tax/vat fraud its no surprise the fl are concerned?

would you try sue say a golf club because they won't let you join?

5.) 21 Mar 2014 22:53:04
That depends on why they would not let me join there golf club

6.) No, but not joining a golf club wouldn't stop me from trading, or running a business, and therefore wouldn't be liable to legal action against them, unlike the football league.
CH

7.) What gets me is that the decision is to be made by CEOs of our competitors. How ridiculous, it wouldn't happen in any other industry!

8.) What the FL are saying is that apart from this current court case that Cellino is appealing against there is nothing else that would stop him taking over. The FL could come out now and say that he cannot take over at all as he has been found guilty of tax evasion but they would then leave themselves open to a legal challenge if Cellino's appeal is successful. The other alternative is that they say yes you can take over LUFC and then his appeal fails, then you have a convicted tax evader in charge of an English club which makes a mockery of the FPP test and would again open the FL to legal challenges from other people who have been turned down due to failing the FPP test in the past. I've said this before there is no Anti Leeds bias at the FL, the boards of our club have made lots of terrible decisions and choices in the last decade and the FL and FA have penalised us within there rules as we have broken them.

9.) 22 Mar 2014 10:54:41
FL will probably be analysing the judges reasons for her judgement. May be that there were mitigating circumstancing because the fine was less than their tax men wanted. If he did not intentionally avoid tax then it is not technically criminal. He is appealing because he rightly says the yacht was bought by his American outlets and tax paid but when it sailed into Italy it was damaged and has not moved since, is this a reason to be classed as a criminal. His past is obviously influencing the prolonged deliberations.
We can only hope and get back to supporting Leeds like we do.
BIGE

10.) What golf club are you trying to join?

11.) I don't think the FL know what to do!
On top of the innocent until guilty and restraint of trade argument there is also the claim that could be made that this take over has been treated differently to any other and the FL have not applied the rules in the same way they have in the past. For a starters they haven't made statements to the public in the past while processing an application. There is obvious evidence that this take over has been treated differently without any digging even!

12.) We already have a convicted criminal in charge if a club Carson yueng at Birmingham.
Are the football league going to sack them from the league.
It's all one big joke.
Snoopy MOT

13.) To all the team today, get your heads up and get stuck in, don't let this takeover saga pull you down, all the fans are behind you so come on Ross rally your troops Mot!

14.) 22 Mar 2014 13:53:17
The FL are set to issue a statement saying that whilst not failing the test, Cellino cannot pass the FPP test until his current legal issues are resolved. In terms of consequences for the club, this means that GFH - whole urgently need to sell - will need to find another buyer.

The above statement is the most personic thing I have ever read.but then again we are talking about the football League. so anything is possible.

15.) Snoopy Carson Yueng is not in charge of Birmingham he resigned in February. Peter Pannu is the chairman

16.) Cellino was found guilty and he will remain guilty unless he appeals and wins the appeal, until then he is guilty and was found guilty in a court of law

17.) Btw the fl aren't stopping him from conducting whatever business he wants he can buy the club if he wants. just can't play in their league haha maybe ask the spl if they're looking for a new team :p

18.) Actually person with no name he stepped down as chairman but he is still the owner, like cellino wants to be the owner with Haigh as chairman.
So uam right I think on this one, can you clear that up please ed.
Snoopy MOT

{Ed001's Note - he is not the owner. This is a quote regarding why the FL are satisfied: The Football League has said that refinancing of the club's holding company, Birmingham International Holdings, on the Hong Kong stock exchange, and assurances given to enable the company's shares to be traded again, mean the league is satisfied Yeung is no longer involved and its rules are being complied with. In other words, they accept he is no longer the owner.}

19.) Fit and proper test covers Scotland too

20.) Its a fit and proper test to see if your fit and proper to own a club, not be chairman. carson yueng may not be chairman now. but he still owns birmingham city, fact and the league have said him being in prison does not affect birmingham. yet we get treated like something s harvey and the league have trod in

21.) 22 Mar 2014 22:30:23
the FL will just sit there now and gfh will have no choice but to cancel deal with cellino and look for a new buyer .

22.) Sorry ed but Carson yueng owns the international holding company with a 26% share holding, he was even quoted 2 weeks ago stating he will not sell Birmingham City, iam afraid he does still own the company and the club and is showing that the FL are a bunch if 2 faced crooks who hate leeds.
Snoopy MOT
Please don't ban me for disagreeing with you like you did last time.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea who you are, nor have I ever banned anyone on this site, so don't know why you are being such a tool as to make up that lie. You don't even understand what you are talking about, so why try and make up more nonsense to add to your idiocy about being banned by me? Perhaps you should look into why the amount is 30%. Or perhaps you should just grow up and stop crying about things clearly outside of your comprehension.}

23.) Snoopy MOT

{Ed001's Note - if you were warned by one of the other editors, then I am going to stand by their judgement. You just want to talk crap and try and stir up fights about nothing. Yeung, for the purposes of FFP, is not the owner of Birmingham City, no matter how you spin it with your bitter, twisted, everyone is against us childishness. No one at the FL wants Leeds in trouble. They don't hate you at all. Why would they? You are one of their draws for tv companies to get them coverage and money with it. Now give it a rest.}

24.) Carston Yeung resigned from Birmingham city board as of feb 2014.
His son Ryan and brother-in-law Shui Cheong Ma are still on the board however.
ACTING chairman Peter Pannu says Carston Yeung WILL NOT have any say in the running of the club even though family members are on board ummmmm.

Guess being a BCFC fan is as tough as being a LUFC fan lol

25.) I think the Yeung situation is what the FA and the FL are trying to avoid with Cellino. Once they say you have passed the FPP test you are allowed to own and run the club as long as you want. If you are then found guilty of criminal charges then there is nothing the FA/FL can do about it, they can't force that person to sell the club so then they have a convicted criminal in charge of one of there clubs which doesn't look good. The FA got lucky that Yeung stepped down, he didn't have to he could have stayed as chairman but did the right thing

26.) 'Cellino was found guilty and he will remain guilty unless he appeals and wins the appeal, until then he is guilty and was found guilty in a court of law'. Actually under Italian law the opposite is the case. He remains innocent unless the appeal fails; This is what is causing FL a headache

Was told my a friend of mine who works in finance in Leeds that the club have been in talks with Red Bull for quite a long time.

I understand the deal being structured is a partnership with GFH-C. Red Bull will provide the funds to re-buy the ground, but will also acquire the naming rights. There will be a shirt sponsorship. Sticking point is reportedly the club name. Red Bull also want to acquire the club naming rights, which GFH-C are unwilling to sell at the moment. Expect a compromise - something along the lines of "Leeds United Red Bulls" is what I was told. Or "Leeds United RBs"

Personally would be happy to see the stadium name change. Not going to ever call Elland Road the Red Bull stadium. But if the club became "Leeds Red Bulls", with new logo etc - essentially a different club based in Leeds - that'd be the end of my support.

thepython

1.) No way to treat the club by changing the name. We are Leeds until the day I die.

If there is any truth to this rumour, the supporters need to make their thought known to the board before it is too late and Red Bulls will have an empty stadium

2.) I know the concerns everyone has for the red bull investment/whatever it may be but in the climate for today in football we have to move with the times to keep up. I have been following leeds for over forty years now and will continue to even if it is LUFCRB.
We need the investment to get the players, doesn't have to be silly money on players but we have to get back to the premiership.

3.) A genuine 'wind-up'. Leeds United is the name, Leeds United it will remain. IF Red Bull are in talks, I would say the part about the ground sponsorship is close to the mark, but the rest is (IMO) Red Bull****!

4.) In Austria at the moment, the home of Red Blue and there is a massive ad campaign for Blue Bull - in silver and blue colours - a blueberry energy drink. So what about White Bull next?

5.) Agree 100% with reply 2, we need to move with the times, whatever they call the team and ground it, l always be Leeds United and Elland road to me.

6.) First off all they and gfh have to buy back the ground before anything can be done

7.) If memory serves an American business man tried to buy a lg2 club about 5 years ago. Part of his proposal was to change the end of their name to something like Lightning instead of FC to make them sound more exciting and sale-able abroad. The FA blocked the move saying he would have to treat it as a new club and drop it down to the lower levels. This could be because of fan protest but i'm guessing it was to stop rich people on a power trip buying the top clubs and changing names to stupid things. let's be honest if you could, with americans in charge of scum, they would have been the manchester red devils or some such the day after the ink dried on the paperwork.
Most likely it will be shirt sponsorship, stadium sponsorship and possible rename, which to be fair Elland road is hardly the most inspired bit of naming ever so I can live with that, and, if they buy controlling shares, not just an investment, It could mean a change of colour for the strip (similar to barca with there colour palette?) and a new badge, which was already fairly new so not dumping a large chunk of identity.
If the investment is big enough and we get the ground and TA back I could live with that.

Gummie

8.) Your last sentence baffles me. I question your loyalty if a name change would stop you supporting would still be leeds united.

For me any configuration of Leeds or Leeds United with Red Bull attached is okay. And I've been following the club since the early 70's.

9.) Name change won't happen as the FA do not allow over commercialisation

10.) Name changes won't happen in England, the precedent has been set.

11.) Of course the name of the team will not, and cannot, change. Man C didn't become Manchester Ethihad, Arsenal didn't become Arsenal Emirates, or Newcastle U Newcastle Direct. People have a tendency to become carried away. Shirt and stadium naming par for the course for a big club taking big bucks. Fine. Let's get on with it. It's only really news because we are outside the Prem and desperate. The stadium name would only stick if it was a new stadium to boot. Chapel A

12.) To be honest if they got naming rights David Haigh would have a lot of protest tweets soon after it was announced

I don't think they're foolish enough to allow Red Bull to rename Leeds United but the stadium naming/shirt sponsorship I can see happening and I don't think us fans would mind it too much if it got us back to the big time

13.) Don't know if this is a load of rubbish but if we do end up ''leeds redbulls'' (etc) after 13 years of supporting the club I would really re-consider supporting them, if it does happen it is a bit of a Master bates trick!

14.) My guess is that they wouldn't be allowed to change the name of the club otherwise this would have happened already with some of the other clubs that are nder foreign ownership/sponsorship.

15.) If red Bull are in talks then the OPs comment about them wanting to change the name is likely to be true as they have done that at every other club they are involved with (not just Salzburg). They got around Bundesliga rules against commercialisation by naming the club RB Leipzig and claiming it stood for Rasen Ballsport (lawn ballsport). Don't know what FA rules allow but they would hopefully insist that the name Leeds United remains. Personally I would welcome their investment ONLY if the club doesn't lose it's identity or have it's heritage and history denied.

If Cellino doesn't pass, it will have absolutely nothing to do with the interview or sacking McDermott. It comes down to ENTIRELY whether or not his guilty verdict translates to the equivalent of a British conviction.

His defence is that in Italy, you need to be convicted to the third degree in order to be guilty. He is only guilty in the first degree. Essentially, it is like 1-0 to the authorities in a best-of-three game. The question for Tim Kerr is whether or not this constittues being actually guilty, and this is totally open to interpretation.

I understand that Nooruddin wasn't in town, but Haigh and Patel were joined by two gentlemen representing a Saudi royal, who is looking to acquire a majority share.
