Just been looking at our premier league stats for this season, and unbelievably Bamford is top for assists, 3 from 7 appearances. I honestly believe if Bamford and Kal had not been injured we'd have at least 7 or 8 points more. I think what I'm saying is it's nothing to do with tactics, substitutions or who we didn't buy in January, but simply bad luck being without two of our most influential players for a big part of the season.

An ambitious progressive professionally run club and board would not be hamstrung ( no pun intended) by the loss of 2 of their quality players through injuries.

They would have contingency plans with a quality proven player to replace each of these players.

Having two quality proven players for EACH position is vital ; at the very least for the Spine of the team especially TWO goalscoring CFs and TWO quality goalkeepers.

To have a replacement for the spine of our team like for like would be well over 100Mil. I think it would be safe to say that kind of money is not available.

Understand about £100M but to only have one proven goal scorer is an issue IMO. We have been fortunate that Foreshaw regained fitness otherwise we would have been in serious trouble!

OP unless it was all smoke and mirrors some money is there as LUFC reported by reliable sources to have bid £20 million on a currently unavailable player in Aaranson

Or you know they could have thought 'outside the box ' last summer and signed a striker on loan if funds were genuinely that tight, although of course they still managed to find £30 million behind the sofa to purchase MB's obsession DJ on deadline day summer window.

Baz. Where is the money for the two quality proven players in each position coming from. Only teams that win things have these sorts of squads because players don’t mind sitting on the bench if they’re winning medals and getting paid £150k+ a week. We are no where near that level and maybe never will be again. It’s our second season back. We need to walk before we can run. We are not entitled to anything, just because “WE ARE LEEDS! ”.

Danum see above
good scouting good players needn't cost a fortune ; and at least the loan market last summer for one or two key positions.

7.) 14 Feb 2022
14 Feb 2022 19:28:46
Danum surely you find it incredible that a PL team whose main striker who has played just 6 games all season is STILL top of an assist chart?

If you don't then I won't even bother .

8.) 14 Feb 2022
14 Feb 2022 20:46:01
Exactly Chris. So if he was playing we’d have won more games?

9.) 14 Feb 2022
14 Feb 2022 20:58:27
No danum my point is we have no one else to step up and that's exactly why we have 5 wins all season. Ridiculous scenario for a PL team to find themselves in

And now I hearing Dallas is gone now for a good spell .

10.) 14 Feb 2022
14 Feb 2022 22:53:01
Why would we have anyone to step up? This is what I’m saying we’re not a big enough club to have another player sat on the bench waiting for ‘the main man’ to get injured. This is why Bielsa likes players to be adaptable, therefore small squad. That’s what got us promoted, that’s what got us to ninth last season. He ain’t going to change.

But if Bamford hadn’t been injured and we’d spent £30m on a player to warm the bench you’d be complaining that it hadn’t been spent on position X where there are injuries/ people not performing. They don’t have an infinite pot of money (as is very clear) , and have to spend as they see best, and chose not to cover Bamford and focus elsewhere. This may have ended up an error, but on the balance of odds at the time was a risk they thought was correct.

Personally I didn’t think we needed a back up as Rodrigo had shown good signs up front at the end of the season, and would be sufficient for any unavailability, and other areas were more important (granted they didn’t invest there either…) . However I find the whole hindsight approach to blaming historical decisions very annoying.

In a nutshell, it’s what I’ve said before about thinking outside the box for some reasoning and not just using some knee jerk blame game criticisms. Brock you are right about Rodrigo and be honest with yourselves, can anyone honestly see that we are already in the position to afford let’s say an Olli Watkins to warm the bench for Bamford.
Especially when certain people consider themselves as realists.

As I said in my 1st reply to danum
" I wouldn't bother "
Now a poster saying Rodrigo is " showing signs" well that's the cherry on top

A bit akin to Comical Ali really in sentiment 🤣.

And by the way OP " knee jerk " it's February and we have accumulated 5 wins all season and we we have just left behind a scandalous transfer window .

So can you explain knee jerk in that context it's no secret this season has been painful so how you maintain hindsight has provided some clarity on this issue is just silly.

15.) 15 Feb 2022
15 Feb 2022 09:38:56
It’s scandalous in your opinion but in mine, buying in January is desperation and your only going to get rejects like Everton unless you have owners like Newcastle, and where is Trippier now? there most influential player now in the treatment room for six weeks. There were several teams who didn’t buy in January because they know it’s not a good time to buy. Arsenal and West Ham are two I can think of straight off.
Maybe Newcastle should have bought a replacement for Trippier had they had hindsight!

How the narrative changes in 1 reply OP, you speak of knee jerk, yet you knee jerked a reply with the full knowledge of Kierans broken foot.

Funny though he seemed to be ok in the 2 games prior to injury . West ham reportedly wanted some of our staff so draw your own conclusions to that point.

Does 5 wins all season not suggest desperate measures need applying to you? Obviously not . But hey you always seem to know best anyway so no point in us banging replies back + forth OP.

Quality post Danumwhite, I’m with you, OP, Brightwhite, Whiteman1, Class92 and all the others who can actually see past the doom and gloom. It does not matter how many times VO, AR, etc, etc are blamed, it doesn’t matter who’s fault it is or isn’t as to why we are where we are. Injuries, bad buys, no buys, Tyler Roberts, Bielsa it really doesn’t matter how many times it’s repeated it’s not going to change anything, we are where we are for whatever reason and it’s about showing solidarity and getting behind our team.

If you can run the team better, if you have the money to buy better players, if you think you are a better buyer or CEO then get off this site and work your magic at Elland Road. Just remember, The Ridsdale effect, GFH, Ken Bates, Denis Wise, League 1, administration, 15 points deduction, no money, bad bad times! Now look at where we are, the futures bright, we are a well run club, limited money but not steeped in debt anymore, full ground, extension plans, our own training ground and stadium, what more do you want in such a short space of time?

I am happy to say I’m a Leeds fan and I’m dam proud of who has got us this far, we are rubbing noses with the elite of English football, We may be struggling but we are not the worst and unlike other teams we have the potential to get bigger and progress in a way that we can all be proud of and all of which will be done with no debt and money that’s ours. Super Super Leeds 👍👍👍.

I am, and always will be a fan of our great team but at times I am baffled and disappointed with their actions (or lack of) .
Maybe a tad cynical I know but what if Aaronson was all smoke? Chasing a player who was needed for a CL game now, a player who therefore had a firm NO on him. Maybe it was so the powers that be could say "well we tried" knowing all the while that it was a non starter. Maybe they sighed a huge sigh of relief when the window closed and he was still a RB player.
I accept (for a different reason) that big money may not have been available however we did not need a Buy (at this time) a quality 6mth loan is where we should have been going for hopefully Paddy will be back this season (worse case start of next) . It is this lack of movement that exasperates me.
To add more hurt to my pain is the use of Roberts and the non use of Joffy to solve the problem. that's when I wonder about Bielsa?
